My favorite aspect of MMO games is exploration! I absolutely love running through the world and seeing what it has to offer. However, I dislike exploring worlds that don't offer anything for explorers besides more quests and mobs to fight.
One thing I would love to see in 2.0 or post 2.0 would be environmental puzzles. I've played a several other MMO games that have small and large puzzles scattered through the world and add a depth to exploration. Since jumping won't effect combat in 2.0, perhaps jumping can be used for these puzzles so that the feature doesn't completely go to waste. An example I suppose would be a small mountain (8 stories tall?) that you can scale by running, jumping, taking small leaps of faith, etc. Once you reach the top, there could be a treasure chest waiting for you or perhaps some sort of special NM or something.
Other examples can be lava pits with a path of small rocks that lead to a chest, a long hallway with traps sprouting from the ground that can be avoided by jumping, a series of trees that can be scaled to reach the top of a giant tree...you get the idea.
Disregard this thread of puzzles of this sort were already confirmed to be included in 2.0 :cool:

And just keep in mind that they don't have to be anything overly complicated. They can consist of small jumping segments in dungeons to avoid traps that inflict minor or heavy damage and/or status effect(s). Aside from jumping puzzles, we can also get simpler puzzles like having to push a statue onto a loose tile to reveal a hidden passage, hitting a switch to avoid poison mist, pushing a large rock with a party member (because the rock is too heavy) to a lower level to avoid the spawning of a group of enemies since you've blocked their path.
Any kind of environmental interaction would be great. This way, environments can feel like they have life to them and don't feel like they're just there for show. -

Just an example:
Ancient temple, you pull a lever and part of its ground opens up showing stairs; you go down, fight a boss and grab its key item, turn a wheel and an elevator starts moving. Pull another lever and the ceiling opens up and you reach the opening through the elevator.... then go place the key item inside an altar and the walls move showing a new path through the jungle to another place where more puzzles need to be solved. -

Yes, i vote this up +1 Like, since they are adding a jumping features, i hope they make an exploration as part of the game, like, sorry if i bring this game up, in GW2, exploring the "interesting point" in the map is really fun, that Vista points too is awesome. May be aesthetic, but to reach to that vista point is fun, reminds me back to exploration like Tomb Raider and the sort.
So yes, i do agree with this mini game :) -

Environmental puzzles are fun, jumping puzzles, hell no. They already said Jumping wouldn't have much use beyond the basics, no battle or other placement.
I usually play platformers when I want jumping puzzles.
Ironic because most FFXIV players lose their shit if you mention using something from FFXI and make changes to it, yet ignore that Crystal Tower is a direct location and concept from FFIII and Materia is a concept from FFVII and they're even adding in a 'Golden Saucer' which was a concept and location from FFVII and everyone is ok with.Quote:

I really like Rifts puzzles. IT was the pretty much the main thing other than rifts that i liked! In GW2 i feel the need to explore the map for the vistas and the jumping puzzles, because i actually have a reason! I find places, i normally would not in other games, as i look for them in GW2!
Having things like this adds to the feel of adventure.. Which this game says its about! If they add these in then people will explore the world more. I don't see why anyone would be so against making the game better in this way. -
