darksteel armor and the like

a few ls members of mine told me that darksteel armor sucks and u cant use it on pld and war and no one playes gla/mar and as far as mertia goes well converting it inot crapy one is also a wast of time why do we have them if we can meld them with good mats and cant use them

Players were probbably saying the same sort of things about obelisk etc look what happened to them....

Darksteel armor does not "suck" and you can use it on PLD/WAR.

Lots of people play GLA and MRD.

I'm not sure what you mean about "converting it into crappy materia" means, you might want to clarify what "it" is.

Melding materia is how you use materia in this game.

Nobody plays GLA/MRD and you can't use heavy darksteel armour on PLD/WAR, just like you can't use gryphonskin on BRD or vanya on BLM.

They are pretty frivolous items, and not sure why the devs really bothered to put so much effort into such superfluous showcase pieces.

I think hes talking about Heavey DS armor. From what I remember those are GLA/MRD only.

regular DS armor like the DS hauby can be used with WAR/PLD

Thanks for the explanations. He didn't say heavy, but it wouldn't surprise me if his lsmates didn't know Darksteel armor for PLD and WAR exists anyway.

converting and melding are 2 different things.

What I think this guy is trying to say is that he doesn't want to convert his heavy darksteel (now that I figured out his talking about heavy darksteel) into a possible crappy materia. But he doesn't want to meld materia to it if he "can't" use the heavy darksteel armor.

You CAN use heavy darksteel armor. If he doesn't want to use it he can sell it.

The lesson here basically is don't drink and post.

Heavy Darksteel is meh at best.

You lose head and feet slots so you you lose on 2+ materia slots.
The stats are very MEH compared to other craft-able items (Full cobalt with single meld beats it)
It's hard to get since it has a "Flawless" in the synth.

Only part I'd use would be the hands and even then PLD/WAR can't use them.

The whole Class-only line of gear is a failing attempt to make classes relevant again, and when that failed they just added class weapons to the relic quest and that's the only reason (other than novelty) that people make these weapons.


Also, nobody uses GLA and MRD for any worthwhile content, theres no point arguing against this, people can use them but who really does? if you got a party then you got a healer and so the "I wan't SS and Cure!" argument is moot.

the only class of those 2 that I would even concider playing over job is MRD and that is for DPS only. The heavy darklight is far from optimal gear for dps so it is actually pretty worthless.

I made a Gryphonskin jerkin +1 the other day.. (1% HQ)

My only hope is that they do do something with this gear; similar to how the class specific weapons became relics.

People use THM a lot on my server. I've seen them use THM for Garuda and dungeons. GLA, I see sometimes in strongholds and NMs. I don't see MRD now that I think about it. WAR's Steel Cyclone is pretty much indispensable.

really depends on the fight for WAR if its aoe heavy then yeah Steel Cyclone is a must, but single target, Invigorate, keen flurry, blood for blood, etc are all pretty nice for a MRD build

"The only reason to use THM over BLM is raise and sentinel if your party sucks."

Yea thm is the only base class where in the loss of the job stuff is actually a worth while trade when it comes to high end group content.

I remember we'd use THM for Astral Flow on Garuda.

I think even some parties use it for Hardmode Darnus.

Yeah there's so few uses for that that you could honestly get a BRD to do that over a THM iirc.

Naw, Sanguine rites damage reduction comes from THMs job traits sadly :(

Correct.

Even the case of DD'ing a single target, Steel Cyclone's Stun effect is still something I would prefer.
