I was wondering if anyone knew if our gold and items will make the transition into 2.0 with our characters. I would almost think that they might allow the items, but I feel allowing the gold could throw off the way the new market will be set up.
Items will most likely have different values in 2.0 than they do now. If there are people with large pools of gold, the value of the new items will be so much that new players will not be able to afford the items, making the market a less enjoyable experience for them.
Just wondering what everyone thinks, if the gold and items should both come with us into 2.0?
Or should only 1 of them, or neither?

Only reason I've come back to the game as of late is to try and pull some money together before 2.0.
Definitely would have to consider finding a brick wall to welcome my forehead if they didn't allow a transfer of money :P -

The gil will of course transfer, but that did not seem to be you concern, as gold is not a currency in this game (maybe WOW?). I would expect gold itself to fluctuate by supply and demand.
Even if they did put new players on our server it would of course go by supply and demand. The expensive stuff would not sell, and prices would drop on the low level gear. the problem will quickly fix itself as the under-cutters are always around to fix discrepancies. -

well the desicion rest upon se weather they will allow gill to be transferd to 2.0 but im gussing we will lose all gill because it is an old 1.0 codeing and the gill in 2.0 will be a different codeing and it also prevents rmt from selling gill to others before and right after launch as far as items it depends on wether the code changing will work with out corrupting your char files i belive something like that happened when we had server merging at this point nothing is set in stone and this will be clarified after inhouse beta testing is done they might have said otherwise but thing's happen that were not expected as of now 2.0 works with the new sys and new char dat files for 2.0 so far they havent tried transfering an 1.0 char dat file to 2.0 yet to see if it works fine so worse case senario we will all have to start from square one if 1.0 codeing create too much problems where 2.0 wont work then they will just give a fresh char and yes i know that would suck but crap happens so exspect the unexspected

Stop making this stuff up. Converting such data as money and items and other stuff is not a huge issue, they only need time for that and that's because we get the downtime we knew of since ages ago. If they weren't sure if they could perform that they would have said so from the beginning, and there was never a mention of such possibility, understood? We will not be loosing our gil but that does not mean that our gil will not potentially lose its value in the change-over. 2.0 is going to bring with it a massive change in game play as well as how the game is organized and seeking to establish an even playing field in terms of the in game economy is certainly something I can see SE attempting to do.
This sort of thing happens all the time when MMOs release new expansions. Players simply find themselves having more gil on hand then they ever did before simply by participating in new quests/content. In this specific case the advent of a more quest based level up system could inject a huge amount of disposable gil into the economy. Instanced dungeons could also have this effect.
If you want to hold on to the value of your hard earned gil the safest bet would be to invest in an item or set of items that you believe will hold its value in the changeover (anything related to the relic quest is probably a safe bet). The value of an item will always fluctuate in both directions but the value of your gil will likely only ever go down. Once the storm is over, but your stuff up for sale at the newly settled price and reap in the inflated profits. This is a tactic that works very well even for patches as well (especially considering the new recipes in big patches get released before the servers go down).
When all is said and done, past all the whining and moaning that changes like these things cause, this sort of thing is actually very healthy for the community in the long run. It ensures that an even playing field is established once every few years. Of course, those who care about making gil as efficiently as possible will always find themselves on top of the economy in the end anyway but still it creates an opportunity to obtain virtual wealth for newcomers where one may not have existed before.
For those that are skeptical about this sort of thing, hold on to that skepticism until we can confirm whether or not the gil cap changes in 2.0. If it gets any higher then expect and prepare for a very very large amount of inflation. -

Honestly, I'd not be too bothered if they did decide to reset gil after all - in fact I think it might even be a good idea.
The botters are working overtime at the moment. If their accumulated gil is suddenly dropped into the market post-2.0 the economy is going to get seriously ugly. -

Everything should even out, especially with processes like relics' double meld which decreases gil from the richer and allow the poorer to spiritbond/farm and make a lot of gil.
