Current chocobos and raising

A thought just occured.. when Yoshi talks about how we'll be able to raise chocobos to fight alongside us in combat.. is he referring only to the one's we're going to be raising fresh, or will the chocobos we currently own be able to be customized to a specific role of some kind?

It might be a quest, you see a chocobo egg in a cut scene and then as you do certain things like retrieve stuff to keep the egg warm, get gysahl greens to feed it while it grows up after it hatches or other types of greens. I'm really hoping they'll add different types of color choices for chocobos. :p

Akujin, I'm quite sure our Chocobos will be lvl 1 or something like that

I was kinda thinking that our chocobo would be scaled to our own lvl. That way the chocobo isn't super strong when you decide to go from a lvl 50 MRD to a lvl 1 CNJ the chocobo won't be one shotting the monsters.

It will most likely be a dedicated class and not usable on all classes.

Hm, that would be an interesting option too.

I foresee it being like XI's companion system. I also feel that it will only be through breeding that you could attain a "combat" chocobo. With ARR, there will clearly be a new quest (I imagine) for attaining a chocobo that new players will have to complete to get their personal one, but as far as the combat birds that will heal/fight/buff alongside us, I feel it's pretty safe to say those will only be obtainable through the breeding/raising system that won't be released right away.

As far as leveling, I feel you'll summon it (I HOPE HOPE HOPE it has no duration timer) and it earns a percent of the XP you earn, and you level it accordingly.

I thought I read somewhere that the chocobo you raise will not only fight along side you but will also be your mount.

Again, I feel it will be like XI. You could rent one, do a quest to call one, or raise your own and ride it.

But, seeing as raising won't be immediately implemented, that won't be an option yet. You will probably (hopefully) be able to ride the same chocobo that fights alongside you, no arguments with that.

My biggest question in regards to Chocobos is whether or not color is going to be tied to their classes/jobs...

Tank = Red/White
Nuker = Black
Healer = Green
Melee = Red/Blue

I have a feeling we'll see a lot of people "solo'ing in trio" when ARR launches, with their fightning Chocobo and that little blue mythical creature.

I'd rather it be it's own "Chocobo Knight" Class, or even just a BST that has other pet access too.

Won't be available at launch, Yoshi said chocobo stables in residential houses won't be patched in for a while. Seeing as all talks of personal fighting chocobo's has seemed to tie into raising them it's pretty safe to say we won't have the feature till we get stables.

Well he said only tank, caster or healer chocobos, I didn't read or hear any news that there was gonna be a melee chocobo. And I wouldn't want the chocobo system to be like that, I'd rather the chocobo color end up being the color you want it to be, not because of what 'type' of role you want it to be. :p

A curious thing to note is that I've observed - and this is simply an observation - that my friend's chocobo typically gets lamed on the first hit from even relatively low-level monsters (r46 when she's 50, for example) whereas my husband's chocobo, Ponce, gets lamed about 50% of the time. Mine, on the other hand, very rarely gets lamed. I think it's happened a total of 10 times, and this includes a few parties where I was the puller in Natalan.

I'm not saying that there's some underlying chocobo class already in effect now, but it really is curious to me that there's such a vast difference between our three chocobos.

I'm thinking maybe our current choco will purely be a mount. I wouldn't mind that too much though. I'd like a whole flock of chocobo!

That is interesting, but could just be coincidence. My own choco rarely gets lamed. It mostly gets lamed only when we've been hit to the point that I'm taking serious damage.

Lamed? Sorry if I don't know much FFXIV lingo yet. :p

Imagine it will be similiar to choco raising in XI, but what you do and how you train will effect its abilities. IT will be a seperate choco fro mthe rgular you get and currently have.

Chocobos are meant to be npcs to help you fill party spots and help you while soloing, so they will be available to everyone.

I hope, if the chocobo job type is based on breeding, that we get some kind of way to pick which one we want for the one we've been using until now.

I thought Yoshi-P had mentioned switching your Chocobo's job/class. Can't find the comment though. I actually kinda hope they let you use the current Chocobo for both. He had mentioned in the same article that you would ride the chocobo, and when dismounting it would stick around.

Besides i would rather not totally relegate my good and loyal Ico to the Feather heap. Hes a good Bo and i'd like him to be able to keep on Choco'in.

One thing I love about what Yoshi mentioned was that there would be armor you can equip to your Chocobo. This gets me thinking about chocobo tales x3

I loved chocobo breeding and racing in 11... I really hope we get a system that is similar but improved, with many more colour possibilities and cards that actually display the stats and heritage of the chocobos ^^

Not really FFXIV lingo but general lingo.

Anyways, I was watching Archeage's 5th closed beta streams and they have mount raising in that game, you can also do so many things with your mounts; they can jump, sprint, winny, walk side-ways, fight with you, and they DIE. There's also mounted combat.

I just hope that with a focus on Chocobo raising in FFXIV, they at least try to meet some of these standards. Hopefully they add a mounting animation too.

Agreed. They already tried this and failed when they updated all the armour to be colour-class specifc, so it would be foolish of them to repeat the mistake and try to colour-lock everything again.

I have noticed something very similar. When I have my monk job equiped, I very rarely have my chocobo lamed. However, when I have my black mage job equiped it seems to happen a little more frequently. {hmmmm}

There is still a public stable at camp bentbranch in the gamescom video.

I don't think you can change your chocobo's role, it said in one of the translations that while raising you chocobo you have to think carefully before you decide which role you want your chocobo to perform.

I read that in a recent interview. Pick the class once and it stays that way. In that case, mine will be a healer.

I was thinking since I'll be mostly a White Mage and a Summoner in some cases I was thinking either the caster or the tank chocobo. :p
