8.0 speculation of the new Job weapon

Spoiler for 7.4 story

When we were introduced to the new Ascian Halmarut, we were also reintroduced to Calyx in the form of a (Doll).
So, what if this was a tease to the new Job, a Doll wielding fighter maybe?
Now dolls as weapons are not new to the Final Fantasy series, as they were used in FFX by Lulu.

Im not saying that the new job is a caster since we just got one, but if they are actually used, what do you think they might be?

Lulu was one of my all time favourite characters and her job was so much fun. It would be great if you could use dolls, not sure how it would work but you never know :)

XI had Puppetmaster, but I don't know how they'd keep it interesting without it being a limited job. The formula says that the next jobs will be a tank and phys ranged, as we'll have looped back around from GNB and DNC in ShB.

I'm fairly confident the Tank will use Hammers since it's a weapon type that's come up a lot in-game (e.g. Nero, Gaia) and that the devs have outright mentioned considering before, but I'm less so when it comes to a ranged DPS... I would guess Blitzballs, but maybe not if the devs feel they'd then have to implement the minigame in some capacity. Cannoneer has come up in recent events, so it might be that...?

Dolls feel like a caster weapon through and through to me, though

sure they both are already in the game in the shape of dragoon spears. but at dome point there are little unused weapons left. and if you exclude all the weapons we have glams of that would be pretty restricting.

also i wouldnt mind different jobs with shared weapons but different fighting styles. like summoner and schoolar nowadays. it could also mean a shared weapon glam pool for jobs with similar / the same weapon


edit: tridents let me think of neptune. a trident fighter with water magic would be awesome... like llymlaen. could be a melee or a magic range.

glaives could fit a really slow heavy hitting melee... or a heavy tank. (that could be a melee without positionals... also: give back dragoons and monks positionals xD)

talking about polearms and llymlaen there is also halone who wields a spear with a small shield. thats another possibility for a tank

I mained PUP and Dancer in XI for a long time and it was a very complex job but it was so much fun. There where so many ways you could play from support to healer to tank was amazing. Like you say I am not sure they could keep it interesting but PUP would be such a great addition to the game. My worry is they would have to gut it and it would not be what we have in FFXI.

8.0 Should be a new tank and healer, I think we have enough DPS

Following the pattern of what they’ve been adding each expansion so far (except Heavensward) I expect a new tank and ranged physical DPS. I’m going for some FFXIII inspiration on this one:

Tank weapon: staff, based on Fang as Sentinel from FFXIII. We have plenty of staff mages, but no staff physical fighters yet.

Ranged physical DPS weapon: boomerang, based on Hope. This one’s a bit more tenuous because Hope was more of a magic user, but he always had a boomerang. Shoutout also to Yuffie from FFVII.

I still want Gunner, like X-2 Gunner, focused on dual pistols, if we can have 6 Jobs wielding swords, a second gun-wielding Job on a vastly different style of gun should be perfectly fine.

i want a shortspear/shield job

What I really want is a pirate themed, gun, and sword using phys ranged, but what I think we're getting is some kind of dual-wielding pistol job. It seems like there are a lot of NPC hints for a job that uses pistols. Spoilers. Hardiboiled uses a pistol, in Sugar Riot's fight, her battle stance is for double pistols, Demitrius uses a pistol, and one of the NPCs in the most recent Rising quest mentions being a 'cannoneer.' I think the next phys ranged will involve guns.

If the the pattern remains true, then we should also be getting another tank. What I really want is like an engineer tank that uses a hammer, but I think there are possibilities of like a Rune Fencer or Spellblade as well considering the phantom jobs, and what we see of Corvos in the upcoming V&C dungeon, The Merchant's Tale.

Lastly, I do think we could get Puppet Master as a limited job so each DPS role has a limited job. Blue Mage for caster, Beast Master for melee, and Puppet Master for phys ranged. In-game YoshiP being surrounded by minions in The Rising quest might mean something.

Assuming Beastmaster doesn't end up with a whip, it could be double axes, and if not double axes, that could go to the new tank maybe? It's either that or some kind of large hammer/club. (Geomancer being the new tank would be an interesting take.)

Physical range could be dual pistols, or a crossbow maybe. Dolls as weapons are possible I suppose, though it was my understanding that Puppetmaster was more of a caster. You could MAYBE argue that whips could be a "ranged" weapon albeit maybe the job's skills could be more "mid-range" like DNC.

By looking at our current job lists, a Prange is very likely since it only has 3 jobs to play. Now what weapon it would be, in not 100% sure, but It would be cool is a blade on a chain job a mix of Range and melee combat.

A tank, it's likely to be the other job, I would guess a Hammer tank. If I were to have my wish list tank think an evasion Tank would be a cool option, a playstyle and abilities on dodging, and a lot more mobility, invun would be "execute a defensive maneuver and dodge most incoming attacks."

ive been playing a lot of diablo 4 lately, spiritborn uses a glaive.

they would be very cool.

A new tank that also uses a shield would be pretty cool, although i hope they'd use a tower shield rather than bucklers.

I'd rather have no new jobs, and them fixing the current jobs, giving them back an identity and also different play style. Thinking of tanks or heals here that are all too similars from one job vs another, versus when we think of the good old time.

But if we had to choose, I think that tank and healer are the next jobs that we should have, there was 2 DPS on the last expansion so it would feels right for those player base to have their turn

I think they briefly talked about Puppetmaster when BLU was announced way back, as limited job. But if it's more of Lulu's style it might be different since the doll is a weapon and not a pet.

Still lots of weapons and combinations they could go with.
2-handed hammer, shield+club, shield+spear for tanks.
Dual pistols, sword+pistol, crossbow for p-range.
Even though PLD uses 1-handed swords, could also see a Spell Blade use scimitars.

I think it will be a physical ranged job and this is what I hope. I would love a corsair type job dual pistols would be nice.

Dancer worried me because I loved it in FFXI and I did not think they could get it too work but they did and it is a lot of fun and I was so pleased they kept it as a dps. I do wish Dancer was more support as in bigger healing waltz and getting rid of poison etc

I would love whips, even though I think they've said they probably wouldn't do it due to animations being difficult.
Otherwise give me Puppetmaster, and let me yeet my automaton frames at everything!

Runic Knight is probably the most likely.

A job with double shields wouldn't be too bad either.

Still hoping for a mystic knight inspired tank with elemental infusions but instead of a scimitar I want a chain and sickle like ericthonios. I think swirling my chain in the air while gathering aether to imbue it goes hard from an aura farming stand point. You know how reaper gets to portal either forward or back? What if this tank could choose between yanking itself towards an enemy or hooking an enemy towards itself! As far as elemental manipulation goes I'm thinking we have the ability to imbue the sickle end of the chain with offensive augments and the pommel end of the chain with defensive augments. The sickle and pommel infusions will be independant of eachother .

Example: Sickle fire = high damage gauge spender on each gcd , sickle aero = long ranged attacks that deal less damage but generate gauge each, sickle lightning fast gcd melee gauge building stance

Pommel Water = your aoe damage reduction skill provides bonus magic resistance and a small regen, Pommel Ice= aoe damage reduction skill provides bonus physical damage reduction and a small shield, Pommel Earth Your aoe defensive skill retains its base magic and physical resistance (it will always have both resistances the last two elements just stances makes one stronger than the other) but reduces party damage taken per hit. Pommel earth should be used for multihit stacks, water for single hit magic nukes to the whole party and ice for single hit physical nukes to the party.

For phys ranged im hoping for a whip or weaponmaster with Firion's kit from Final Fantasy Dissidia.

I wouldn't mind having some of the pre existing weapons replaced like swap the greatbow for an arm mounted crossbow like Guts in Berserk.

A chain whip like castlevania for a closer range combo like on shadowbringers dancer. it wouldnt be full melee but closer range than the crossbow.

Throwing axe as a walking cast nuke that feels heavy and hits in an aoe. If the throwing axe is too warrior then I think handbombs like Nashu's from the hildibrand story would be a good replacement. Id be happy with both being in the kit to some capacity. perhaps handbomb can be a charged action and the axe can be a gauge spender.

Anyway that's the core four weapons i want on the Weaponsmaster.

Give me a ranger job with a bow and dagger and the ability to summon animal allies a la Dragon Age Origins

As far as I'm aware, they've tried to make Chemist 3 different times now. First was for HW, and they salvaged their work to make AST and MCH. Then was EW, and they salvaged their work to make SGE. Third, and finally, was the Phantom Job in Occult Crescent, which amounts to 'Benediction but it's GCD' and 'Revive, but it's a 5s CD weaponskill'. It doesn't even 'Mix' anything, the core 'skill' of the Chemist isn't even present in the kit. If the creativity of the PJ Chemist is what they have to offer even when completely unrestrained by balance (since it's in a Field OP zone), then I have little to no hope for an actual Chemist.

On topic, it's a Tank and PhysRanged, I'd expect. For Tank... depends where exactly we're going. I can see Viking, for example, as a Dual 1h Axes Tank that mixes some Thunder Magic into their kit, IF we go to Aerslant (home of the Sea Wolf Roegadyn). If not, I dunno, maybe Mystic Knight

For PhysRanged, I'd like to see them stop saying 'well it's very difficult...' and actually work out how to make a Whip look good in animations. Failing that, I guess a second MCH-style, heavily personal-damage focused Job with a Crossbow or a Hand Cannon could work. Then they can have a pseudo-split of MCH/New vs BRD/DNC, like how we have WHM/SGE vs SCH/AST for Healers


Side note, DT should have had Blue Mage be reworked to be a true Job in the Caster role (with a heavy focus on utility/RDPS, making it the 'Dancer' of the Caster role). How on earth did we go to the land that Blue Mages originate from, and yet the only reference I've ran into was the Fisher Role quests where it's played off as a joke ('haha this BLU only learns Flying Sardine style spells isn't it funny guys'). Another victim of SE's lack of creativity, just like Chemist I fear

funnily enough I find DT AST to be the closest to a potential chemist they've gotten to, with a button that mixes a set of potions to toss at people. The deterministic design works far better for it than a fortune teller job with tarot cards.

Think likely picks for the 8.0 jobs, if anything we've seen through 7.x were hints it'd be Puppeteer or Cannoneer. Either could be a phys ranged or tank imo.

Still think Green Mage could make for a neat tank, being a hammer wielder with buff/debuff-focused spells.
