Endgame content is currently impossible

Many people have already mentioned the many disconnections they have experienced in other threads. However, a more serious implication should be addressed properly: its negative impact on various endgame content.

With all the DDoS attacks and disconnections, completing endgame content is borderline impossible. Take Deep Dungeons, for example: they take hours to complete, and a single disconnect in the middle would brick your file if you're unable to return in time. The added protection is insufficient since you cannot be certain when you can return, and it may cause you to be KO'ed by roaming mobs. Ultimates, likewise, cannot be completed if a disconnect occurs during pull, as this content requires all 8 individuals to be present. Regarding savage and extreme raids, the absence of a single player in contemporary raids, or even in raids from the previous expansion, would cause a wipe. Even PvP is facing immense difficulty due to disconnects, as by the time you return, the match will be over, typically resulting in a draw.

As of now, VPNs are used as alternatives to counter these random attacks. However, they are not foolproof, as I have personally experienced situations in which party members who enabled VPNs were still disconnected from the server. Also, it is absolutely ridiculous for players to install VPNs to mitigate a fault not of their own making. Another suggestion is to move to another DC, primarily OCE, when doing such content. However, it is simply unplayable due to latency becoming a significant issue. And again, why should anyone go to another DC when they are not responsible for the problem?

For now, it would be best to ease back on completing any such content, since these attacks have been too frequent to get anything done whatsoever. The overall impact of such disconnections has been devastating for everyone. If this becomes the new normal, then it would effectively kill the endgame scene in NA, as no one would be inclined to redo an entire raid because of something beyond their control.

Crafting is currently a joke to also do. Trying to craft HQ items, to only be disconnected from the server is aggravating at best, infuriating at worst because you know that NA server are frankly this game's red-headed stepchild.

They care enough to pay for JP server mitigation against DDoS but don't bother with NA, because why should they care about us suckers? This is now a DAILY problem, and SE chooses to run their company in this fashion, and approve of using an ISP running their NOC out of some third world sink hooked up to a braided telephone line and bathroom sink hooked up to a car battery for maximum reception.

It's really time they pulled their heads out of the clouds, and other more obvious places.

I don't agree that completing endgame content is "impossible". I think a better assessment is that it's very inconvenient and the gameplay experience is poor quality.

For example, while I have had time wasted and lags and disconnects during hunt trains and Extreme trials, the fact is I've done many hunt trains and farmed over 100 Doomtrain totems despite these issues.

While crafting can be affected, it's not "impossible" since people can travel to Materia and do it and the same is true for Deep Dungeons.

It's very unfortunate if someone is disconnected when about to clear Savage or Ultimate, and it's a poor quality experience, but it's not "impossible" to clear them since it will probably be cleared at some point in the future after that.

Also certain times of day are far worse for these issues, so it may actually be nigh on impossible during the times OP can play, but not others.


Knowing that you can just loose millions of gil worth of materials or hours of progress because of how common disconnects are is so utterly demoralizing that many of us just don't want to bother to begin with. Why should I get back on my solo deep dungeon grinding when I get disconnected every day? I won't make any real progress

Just wait until savage release this week, the drama is about to get real.

Actually, at this very moment, it is currently "impossible" for me. I can't even log in now, because the lobby is so fucked up, all I get is a 2002 error.

A valid point, but when you are in another DC, you have no access to your retainers, you cannot gather limited nodes, and you cannot use FC buffs. All these inconveniences stemming from the compromise are due to a problem beyond your control.

DC near daily, with the times generally falling between 3 and 7PM EST. I live near Cincinnati and have great internet. My DC's never corelate to other internet issues as streaming and gaming on other systems never lag or break at the same time.

DDoS sucks too. I wish DC travel and the nodes were properly updated to benefit all players, but alas...

You could be nicer than that, its just a game.

I completely agree with you on deep dungeon, a single disconnect will end your run immediately and it's extremely frustrating when doing solo runs from floor 1-100.

As for ultimates, clears are still possible, I cleared UCOB and UWU during the worst of the DDOS I did get disconnected during golden bahamut and predation which is frustrating, but if the party knows what they're doing they'll clear without a problem.

I was in a party where people knew there would be DCs, so they had Warp and other VPNs already up and running. In the midst of a fight, some were still disconnected from the server. Cloudware's Warp can sometimes randomly disconnect in the background, causing you to disconnect from the server even when there isn't a DDoS.

Yep here right now in savage, mass dissconnects are happening everything 15-20 min. It's making prog a nightmare.

I strongly advise travelling to Ravana/OCE and doing your crafts..the ping is worse but not really noteworthy while crafting with your macros.

If your ISP fails to provide a service than they need to get rid of them and get a new one. Even if they have to take an L on the contract they make more than enough, heck most of the money goes to other projects so put a pause on that and eat the cost for new isp

If their contract with the ISP doesn't punish them severely for this level of instability, or count it as a breach and let them shop around for someone competent to handle their servers, then it's actually Square's problem.

The only reason why they'd be taking an L on a contract with this poor of performance from a vendor is if they had Harvey Birdman and Lionel Hutz for their legal team. Even if it's hard for Square to get out, the amount of damages they should be collecting from NTT should be enough to force NTT to fix their issues and stop the financial bleeding.

It is an NTT issue, which is a Japanese telecom company, AND a SQEX issue, because they aren't mitigating DDoS protection except in JP.

Don't worry, they will find a way to not compensate for all ddos happening. Companies always do excuses or will toss some "you signed our aula / tos".

Raiders did move to OCE but apparently they were affected as well. Apparently, this was also an issue on OCE and not entirely localised within NA.

Since ddos was also showing up in OCE, this might point to the possibility that they were not attacking the nodes, rather where many of the notable players were located when savage dropped.
