Will the servers ever be able to handle loads properly?

Had this happen to us today after multiple "Server is congested" messages.

Seriously. Just about had it with these servers that can't even handle loads on Saturdays.

Or is this one of those "Fixed in 2.0" things?

the ARR servers will be more powerful and should have more capacity so should solve or at least make r0s and "Server is congested" messages less common.

Well, Its more of us " Taking there word for it" that the Servers will be better than this one. I do believe them though.

They would be more than stupid not to improve the servers when they have said they will be using new ones, and Yoshi-P is not stupid lol

There were three parties in Moogle at the time at worst.

Guess they were just doing me a favor instead of taking my Keystones and getting nothing, I got nothing.

I know that, and I trust him. However, we don't know what the servers will be like until Beta time when more people are in the worlds. I believe and Trust him, and I know he knows what he's doing. it just.. whats the word.. Worried?

You guys act like Yoshi hasn't had his share of failures or something.

All primals developed under his leadership have been given abysmal rates where one can go all day (at this point, for me its been a solid month of this), get nothing, and make no progress (they learned with Garuda, but for some reason never made the same adjustments to the tokens on Ifrit and Moogle).

A server merge that was too drastic, moving too many into one spot caused full wards, popular instances to crash, lag, and more.

He's done some good, surely, but do we really think he's going to get investments to both make content for 2.0, *and* upgrade the hardware and the protocols controlling it? With this, on top of everything else, the game can be pretty frustrating to play at times.

If there were no problems with congestion initially then I'd be really surprised. Almost all game launches have this problem... almost.

There are many factors for this as well. Like server structure, bugs in the UI and physical mechanics, and of course the amount of players and memory. However, this should already be taken care of after their beta tests and from what they say they are keeping servers down until they fix every major issue if any. For a second launch of a game I'd expect them to be incredibly cautious about this even if it means a delay of some kind.

I think you forget that this is partially the player's fault. They wanted short-lock out timers, this is what they get in return. It's been a principle in many games that longer lock-out timers = higher drop rates.

You should do Caravan and get GC weapons if you don't like crappy drop rates, this is an MMO and those weapons are your carrot on a stick. You have options

Yes, because Caravan is loads of fun, and I would totally rather do that instead of any other method they could put in to earn seals. No wonder people would go AFK during it and they had to fix that recently.

Check that as another snooze-fest mistake of a thing Yoshi put in place. Caravan. Behest was even more fun that that back in the day being the zergfest that it was.

The rates aren't the issue, not to bounce too off topic as its been a dead horse beaten already, but it is rather the RNG methods of obtaining said items. Some people put in 10 runs and get everything they want. Others put in hundreds for one thing. I can see some element of luck being put in for fun, but the tokens should be a 100% drop every time to reward your efforts in some way, but make the amount needed to buy a weapon higher. Even if I needed 50 of em, I'd have what I wanted by now.

That's the problem though, luck = rates. If 100% chance tokens would be added into the system with an included chance of getting the item, not only will the token amount be increased, but the amount needed would probably equal the same as the worst possible outcome of the chance itself.

In a company's eyes, content = longevity. There are multiple ways which it can be obtained, yet the way this community decided that it would get it would be through the one which would require the most luck. Even when they decided to change it for garuda, the amount of runs needed to get the tokens (between 20 to 40), the chance of getting a weapon through chance is highly probable before you attained all your tokens.

Now ARR has shown that some content will have a token system. Unless it is only a token system, the rate and/or amount of tokens needed will still be based on the lock-out timer(most likely excluding leveling content since you should get the gear while you are progressing through your levels.) This is why games such as WoW have plausible returns, the amount of tries are greatly limited.

Now for the OP. It is true that the servers right now are greatly stressed because of the horrendous coding which the current version has to process. I remember the amount of times I would rage when I would R0 in Ifrit and Moogle. Hopefully this issue will be fixed in ARR, but I haven't had the opportunity to test it out myself. However, considering the importance of the rebirth, SE will most likely fix this issue come 2.0.

It's really kind of pointless to complain about an engine that wont exist in a matter of months.

Yup this is kind of the point of the ground-up recode of the entire client/server structure :oooooo

Just had an issue where I got locked into the "now loading" screen while entering Maelstrom HQ. Had to close the game to fix it, but I don't see these server issues being resolved until 2.0 goes live. Just gotta deal with it.

It's pretty disheartening when you finally get rolling with hamlet after an hour of getting the party together. Got a good run going, and then have that r0 happen right as the zombie dies.

Praises be to Yoshi-P so that he may deliver us from these forsaken always congested servers.
May he save us from these clutter UI, and smite those who wish us harm with grass threads.

Short re-entry timers make bad drop rates required, or you would burn through the content in 2 days, get bored and cancel your sub just after the patch has been released because there is nothing to do, community issue, with long re-entry drop rates would have been higher.

The Wards (at least on Mysidia) were already full before the merge, anyone that was on a high population server pre-merge will have seen it, there is absolutely no differance with the wards. Instances crashing is more a general server problem, not the congestion, the servers simply cannot handle the amount of instances required which is why they are going to use new ones. And lag is not because of congestion, again its the poor quality servers which is why they are getting changed.

And yes he will get investment to make ARR content and servers/protocols because its a set in stone requirement for ARR to succeed, you HAVE to do both only do one and the game will fail, SE has the eyes of the world on them because they are doing something never been done before in making FFXIV rise from the brink of death, if they succeed with it they will get huge praise, make a lot of money and most of all earn the respect and trust of consumers and save the Final Fantasy brand.

Yoshi-P has done a lot for the game, if he has had any failings all I can think of is listening to a community who half the time don't know exactly what they want.
