It's already a flop but at least I'd have reason to do OC if I could level my real classes (not phantom jobs) with it.

Just saw your post and wanted to say I agree! Look Devs, I love this game, but some decisions are truly confusing. I'm not sure why they didn't take the best parts of Bozja or Eureka (such as leveling xp or queuing for CEs) and add them into O.C. It seemed like a hugely missed opportunity as I really enjoyed leveling up my additional classes in Bozja, rather than just another round of running roulettes for old raids, or the same 3 daily quests.
Regarding Classes - I had hoped to see jobs (like Geomancer) actually IN the game officially (sort of like Beastmaster and Blue Mage as actual real jobs too, sigh), so I'm not really thrilled with only getting phantom jobs to level up instead. It's great to see what they COULD do in theory, but it doesn't help with my actual xp needs.
About the raid: there's a lot of "I'm only adding people who have run it before" going on in Shout Chat with the Forked Tower...so I can see it's about as popular as Baldesian Arsenal was to get into (and by that, I mean only the most hardcore need ever try to apply, like what happened with the recent Cloud of Darkness Chaotic raid that I don't see a lot of party finder for these days). Why the Devs decided to do that again, part two, I'll never know. But they really, really shouldn't have. Bozja was actually fun AND lucrative to run that raid, because everyone could queue and go in, and they had a well done raid that we actually finished quite a few times in there with few failures. No "join my discord" or "you need x number of runs" were required or necessary.
Hopefully they will return to that next time, if they can't adjust it now.
I agree. I thought OC would be similar to Bozja, but it seems the devs have no idea what they're doing.
They're not confident their 7.3 DD would stick well to their playerbase, so they had to 'downgrade' something else in the same expac to make sure it's not dead on first month lol.
OC needs one of the two main “this isn’t really progress but it feels like progress” systems in either job levelling or Gil making
Neither really is actually giving progress but it feels like it is. OC completely lacks that kind of “just go in for a few minutes and feel like you are making progress” content
It's the wrong expectation on SE's part. These contents are crafted with the long game in mind, designed to remain engaging even after patch releases. The enduring popularity of field ops from previous expacs is a prime example of this. If they can't maintain player interest in a field op, what makes them think DD would?
It doesn't? Dang with how people play I thought 90% of people were leveling alt classes in there.
I think you're overestimating how much people actively levels their non-lv100 jobs. Anecdotally speaking from my PoV, I've seen more people who are happier to just not touch jobs they generally find unfun and thus missing out things like Amaro achievements if it means they have to run roulos or daily dungeons. Alternative ways of leveling helps these players to work on their less desired jobs outside mainline content where they'd otherwise not touch + give them some sense of side progression than just 'farming silvers/golds' in OC. I personally think they could've just give both OC and new DD job experience, & maybe have them rethink their approach instead of cannibalizing older content in order to shove people into their newer content (at least that's how it looks like to me).
That being said, my initial post was a half jest lol.
tank w/ thief
sage w/ cannon
4 ninjas w/ cannon
backup tank w/ cannon
[any] w/ cannon
I'm glad it doesn't have exp though, as a hater it would be more annoying if more people were doing it. I don't need any exp so it wouldn't solve any of my problems with the zone.
XP would honestly be the only thing that kept me in the content. With the way they bungled OC and FT, I went in, got my demimateria and bounced. I see no reason to do the same incredibly dull fate grind I've already done many times before, just to level subjobs that are only usable in a single piece of tediously dull content. And if I need certain subjobs for future content and that means I miss out because I didn't level them now, I am ok with that. It's not like OC will be worth doing come 8.0 anyway, which makes the time sink seem even more pointless.
Though I got every job maxed out, I would have to agree to this...
DD is the leveling content but honestly they added enough improvements to keep it evergreen that it doesn't need to be the only leveling content. OC could easily be another choice.
The take you're responding to doesn't make sense because it's the usual jaded, bitter cynicism from this negative echo chamber that doesn't actually connect to reality. As you pointed out, most people will have leveled most of their main jobs by the team OC released...because it's not meant for leveling at all. It's meant as content for people to do on their lvl 100 jobs, while DD is intended as an alternate way of leveling jobs people haven't done yet (alongside the challenge of completing the entire DD perhaps on a job one is most comfortable with and has already leveled).
I think OC should've let you level your normal jobs. It would have been the glue to keep the content together better. As people should have multiple avenues on how they choose to level their other jobs in their preferred enjoyment of the game.
As it currently is, Occult Crescent has trouble keeping players interested. And the issue is Forked Tower. If you don't think Forked Tower is for you, then leveling the Phantom Jobs will feel more pointless. Meaning you have less reason to be in there aside from a mount, some glamours, a portrait, and a minion.
If OC let you level normal jobs, you might level your Phantom Jobs even if done so begrudgingly even if you don't want to do the tower. Which means in terms of player engagement and player retention, the content would've been doing its job proper.
And this exact stuff I am talking about is why the Deep Dungeon will see more frequent users, because Deep Dungeons are designed to let the player level their alternate jobs while making progress in the dungeon not only on floors but also on their aetherpool which might as well be like phantom leveling.
I am glad they didn't just do a copy and apste of leveling in bozja. IF they added phantom jobs, you have to raise knowledge to 20 to do FT, and next area or 2 is probablyg onna be like level 21-30 and 31-40. Bozja i leveled like 2 jobs in it after beating EW because i decided to work on a resistence weapon and had to do all teh steps. Doing the min bozja was easier esp some of the one time quests. Ok h ow would you propose they let you level in OC, without syncing your ilvl up to do OC?
The way to allow you to level in OC is easy because it’s the same as Bozja. All characters are synced to 700, up and down, entry at level 91. Completing a fate or a CE gives you 3 types of experience, job experience, phantom job experience and knowledge level
It becomes an advantage to enter with a level 100 job because they are the only ones who can wear arcanauts gear and enter forked
I genuinely don't understand what is so difficult about this requirement. I've done it multiple times, both with friends and with randoms in PF. You can even do it alone if you like a challenge. It's seriously not much more time consuming or difficult than the majority of other content, you only have to do it once and it'll give you access to all the future DDs, because the requirement is always the same.
I guess you're right. The requirements for Anemos and PotD are very different, though. Palace just requires you to finish Copperbell Mines and be lvl17 and you can enter. Anemos wants you to finish MSQ all the way up to Stormblood and be lvl70 to enter. I understand the analogy, but PotD's requirements are a one-time thing and the requirements are so low that if you simply exist in ARR, you can do 50 floors of Palace.
So backtracking to do PotD is much easier and less time-consuming than getting through the entirety of Anemos. You can get Palace done in an evening if you're taking your time with it. Don't get me wrong, I understand you point, I'm just surprised people complain about not being able to engage with the newest DD when they can't even be bothered to do the most basic part of the most accessible one out there.
I don't even have jobs to level anymore and I'm mad it doesn't give XP. It would benefit SO many people if you could level there. My friend is leveling SGE right now and he didn't believe us when we said he couldn't level in OC.
