The new system they use for dyes/colours seems to be awful with metallic dyes in general. Same reason the Night of Devilry Shirt doesn't work well with metallic dyes at all. Honestly they really should find a way around it so these items can work properly, because sooner or later as they update more gear, metallic dyes just aren't gonna work at all.
Oh WOW that looks awful. Even regular dye isn't great tbh, it looks weird and crunchy.
I’d get it if it was just a regular in-game glam, but this is something from the store we paid for (17.50 €/22 $). They should either put more effort into it or just leave it as is.
I've been unhappy with dyes on newer equipment for a long time.
Anything with "HD textures" seems to dye poorly and patchily.
Adding modern glam is also very important for players on consoles. People on pc are modding modern glam into ff14 for a long time now.
Why? Because there is a strong request for such stuff.
And through official vanilla modern sets all(!) players have access to some modern aesthetics.
So SE broke something else Alexandrian themed in an update patch, I'm shocked.
can anyone post a shot of this? I'm at work but I'm morbidly curious how it looks....
Had to check it out myself as well when I read it. Seems that they did the same for most of the glams they "touched up". Honestly I am gutted. I've been dyeing my glams silver since HW, as I really like the gloss and shine it gives off and reflects the colours around you. I was already upset when I noticed the metallic change on most DT gear, but seeing that they ruin older gear as well is making me scared that they'll ruin my favourite glam pieces eventually.
Not gonna lie, if they do that I might actually end up quitting over it.
I can deal with all the jank they throw at us (be it jobs or encounters), I can Fantasia to my hearts content until I am satisfied with my character again, I can find some way to enjoy the story that has not been fun at all (though I did enjoy 7.2 a lot more than I thought I would), however if they keep gutting the metallic dyes then that's when my character will no longer feel like my character anymore.
I've been happily rocking the same glamour since I started playing this game, shine and all.
On pretty much all the DT gear the metallic dyes look so matte. They miss that shine that metallic dyes should give, or rather, used to have now. It just looks weird honestly. They really should give us the shine/gloss back, and if they're at it, add it to the DT pieces too, I would use them a lot more if they'd look like the pre-DT metallic dyes.
This is how they look now:

This is what the colour used to be:

>CSIII makes an unnecessary change that nobody asked for
>it makes everything worse instead of better
Wow, I can't tell you how shocked I am by this information. That is to say... I can't tell you I'm shocked by it, because I'm not.
Sorry, friend, that sucks big time. I love to use the gunmetal black to make certain gear look like silk. Can't wait to see how THAT looks now....
Sorry for the double post, but I made a screenshot too:
It's the same Metallic Blue Dye, and Street Attire used to look the same with this dye.

Oh god, "Crunchy" is the right word, for sure. Good lord, that street attire...
It legitimately looks like a bad 2 dimensional jpg pasted over the character. Not to mention.... whatever the hell they did to the color of it. Disgusting work, CSIII.
EDIT: add a bunch of modern/cyber gear, screw up the metallic dyes. Bravo, CSIII, stunning and brave.
c r o n c h y when dyed pastel too

Undyed also looks really weird to me especially in sleeve area

Really not sure what's going on cuz it almost looks like the texture is shimmering/on top of the fabric when standing still and character is just breathing. Feel like this outfit really didn't need a texture update, it looked fine before even with the "updated" graphics of everything else.
Yeah, it seems like there’s something off with the jacket texture. They probably tried to create a 'jean' texture, but it just doesn’t work with metallic dyes. If they’d used a smoother silk texture, like the one from the 7.1 'Loose Fit Attire' (which actually works with metallic dyes), the whole set would look fine with metallic dyes.
They also improved a lot of gear in this patch, including:
- Loyal Housemaid's Set
- Summer Sunset Set
- Magitek Set
From what I’ve checked, both the Summer Sunset Beach Cover-up and the Magitek Jacket lost their metallic shine too.
As some people have mentioned, metallic dyes now look more plastic-like or muddy, almost like matte dyes... Seeing this happen on such a large scale, I’m starting to doubt they’ll ever fix it or even notice it :(
I'm going to reuse this thread because they keep doing it and it really pisses me off.
The "HD textures" make metallic dyes on some starter gear (like hyurs') look like you're wearing burlap sacks now so it doesn't fit other gear where it's actually metallic - I used to like the top and skirt but it just looks awful unless you use matte dyes nowadays. And every patch they ruin more items with this. Now we get the "leathery metallic" look on the Orcacle Top, thank you 7.4.
I had to throw away so many glamours because of this since DT and apparently no one cares :(
I have been complaining about this since the new dye system came out and they started redoing all of the items.
This recent change shows that they really intentionally decided to make metallic not metallic anymore. I have had to totally change dyes or abandon pieces.
This is not a technical issue but an art issue, whoever on the art team allowed this needs to reflect on what they have done and either fix the dye or revert changes.
I just got home and looked at my current glams that use pearl white, and they went from a pretty satin white to a non-shiny dull gray. Oracle top, no longer satin and just... <sigh>. Gown of Light has some reflectivity, but the color is NOT the same. Housemaid set is also dull along with the Tycoon Leotard.
Most I can find a way to work with or tolerate but I loved the Oracle top in satin and now... I'll just have to find a new glam for that slot.
I know this is just an echo chamber and nothing will come of it; I'm starting to think that these forms are nothing more than a large group counseling session.
brightly colored dye on denim looks terrible IRL, too so perhaps this was intentional
Everyone has different tastes, so it’d be nice if there were options to choose what we like rather than saying something looks ‘bad’ for everyone.
If someone wants to wear satin or shiny silver, that’s their choice — let them do what they want.
If that option existed from the start, it shouldn’t have been removed, especially for something from the store I paid for that looked good before the "improvement"
It’s really sad to see they kept ruining metallic dyes. As if the new ones weren’t already bad, now they’re also ‘fixing’ the old ones nobody asked for :(
I miss the leathery look that gunmetal black gave to my street jacket so much. I had to drop a jet black on it to make it look half as good now. I don't even wear it as much anymore because of how ass the new material looks.
The Dress of Light also got borked. Pearl white dye makes it look permanently wet. Regular dyes make it look almost like its made of velvet. I think the top part is also somewhat transparent now? It almost looks like there's a boob window that wasn't there previously. Sucks that they've screwed up some shop items this badly.
If this is the direction they’re going, it feels like sooner or later all store glams will get ‘improved’ too.:(
Even the new Fantasia collab attire already doesn’t work well with metallic dyes.
