I think he's too careful, and I think the CEO's allow this because FF14 is still raking in money and I BET that its also saving on worker costs, because they can cut down on teams and personnel, due to the formula being on rails with not much change.
Lack of innovation will eventually kill this game, but it can suck the players blood and wallet for some years to come.
....if they fix the story.
Hmm, no, the content is not terrible. I've had lots of fun with it honestly. Been doing various of the raids and extremes from this expansion and everyone I'm doing it with in PF seems to love it. So maybe you just don't do the content.
I agree that the systems feel dated but that's always been the case. I mean, ARR felt unpolished and dated from the start, doubly so because it was trying to copy a dated concept (old-style MMORPGs).
The content isn't exactly the same. It's the same format. There's a difference. While you might not value consistency, I personally do.
The game plays it too safe and Yoshida himself isnt invested in the game anymore
He's too afraid to fail, too safe, in combination with being far far too rigid with it all..
Like you can still maintain good consistent quality without reducing everything into a rote formula.
Yes, I also enjoy white bread, but I dont like eating it everyday. Some butter on top will do wonders, some actual toppings will make a sandwich even better.
"Consistency" is exactly the word that Yoshi P and his team hide behind when there is a lack of innovating and adding in more systems, QoL and more
in the year 2525 patch notes 100.10 "glamour plates increased to 30"
Idk bro hes still carrying, but hes not performing well like he used too. Maybe with the SE changes he might be back.
I honestly wouldn't mind a new FF mmo at this point.
I look back on ff14 now that a lot of the older content has been ruined by the levelling system, too many fundamental changes I doubt they will go back on and the excuse of "well its outdated what do you expect?" ect.
Not to say I'm rooting against ff14 I can see a possible future where it's not just doing well but better then it has before but at the same time a fresh start sounds nice... though the grass is always greener on the other side so maybe that wouldn't even work out.
I just don't think the game has the resources pouring into it that it needs to stay truly modern and fresh, honestly. It had a pretty good run (over a decade!) before we got to this point. It definitely has some years left in it, but it almost certainly will mostly be more of the same. It is what it is. On one hand, it's somewhat of a bummer, because it feels like the end of an era, but on the other hand, I really can't reasonably expect a single game to meet all my expectations in perpetuity.
players dont like anyone or anything that has passion behind it, players ARE TO BLAME honestly not the devs at this point, players want things to be this 1 2 3 set pattern the story being predicatable BECAUSE THE PLAYERS refuse to let a scion die, nothing that happans to the scions even matters due to players...
and honestly, any passion any thought rather it comes from devs or players or anyone with a BRAIN OF THEIR OWN that doesn't fit into their tiny box gets shut down, dismissed, and called w/e bs if it doesn't sit in the same old same old box players don't want it which ties a chain around the devs necks to the point they can't do anything because players are to retarded to think for them self and move out the same old same old box. They don't want passion or creativity or uniqueness they want everything in the little box of there to always be the same forever and ever and if you don't fit in that box it doesn't get added/done or if ur a player that doesn't they purposely try to set you off.. so honestly at this point I say well its what the majority of players deserve to happen to them.
The only fault of the devs and SE honestly in cash shop and not having the balls/stomach to do things that will piss of players like perm killing y'shtola
I don’t know a single person in HW who thought retconning the bloody banquet was a good idea nor anyone in ShB who thought that another fakeout death for y’shtola to show off emet’s power was good writing
Like does anyone still want y’shtola still in the story actively at this point. If you wanna goon over dommy mommy then she can be shoved into matoya’s cave
HW/arr got a pass for 2 reasons
1 the little lalafell got killed at the end of HW and arr we lost minfilla for good (well mostly for good) and in stormblood we got rid of lyse those 3 were back when SE had the guts to get rid of scions lol I mean IN ARR we technically lost 2 scions.
The characters we got left are really only be used for fan service the same reason animes always have that beach scene lol
I mean honestly the best thing SE Could do for players at this point is be done with the source for a little while let us explore more of the first and other planet/worlds where we only interact with new npcs
I mean Raubans lost arm has more value then the scions anymore because it left an impact forever
at this point 1 of 2 things need to happan We accidentaly create the rejoining of all the reflections or 2 the source is written out of the story for good
I think it's time for him to step down and pass the torch.
only really because people think "MMO" is an actrual genre and not just an addition to a genre all that means is 1 its online and has alot of people what matters is what comes after it in this case RPG if there FPS mmo its FPS that matters. all the mmo means is more people and its online lol
and I'm sorry but no its not a genre
if you take out the RPG part all you would have is a white room filled with a bunch of ppl on mmo so no its not a genre its an addon to a genre
Its just SE reshuffling and making things more streamlined and people overreacted to it. Including myself.
Its the same old, with different positions, slightly different positions. There is 0 proof that FFXIV is changing drastically. 8.0 will be the proof of one or the other.
My predictions are a possibility of 3:
1. The game actually innovates, promising a better future for the game in general
2. The game stagnates with the formula repeating 1 for 1
3. They trickle in some minor changes and do the thing where they promise that they are "working" on something in the future but it takes time and the cycle continues.
I think Yoshi got somewhat of a new position when reorganized stuff and CBU3 got made into what it is now and he's in charge of multiple projects... As there was that one piece of news that they were supposedly working on 2 games aside from FF 14 even after FF 16 got released.
Yeah, Yoshi-P said as much what the community really didnt want to hear, but what the company probably pats themselves on the back for.
"Square enix is "attacking" with multiple projects at once" good if they got multiple teams. Bad if they juggle teams between multiple games
That is because a small group of ppl keep screaming to make everything easy-mode or soloable and these companies are caving under even the slightest pressure. We don't need to go back to a FFXI level of needing others, but they really need to design these games for groups of ppl again, give us long term goals, incentives to group up and not give us things like trusts or unsync modes,. They also need to stop catering to the ppl whose parents never told them "no", allowed them to fail so they understand failure is part of learning or forced them to be social during their developemental years. That's how we got a whole group of entitled boomers destroying our world to begin with and we don't need a replay on that generation.
i think the devs should add a downvote option to the forums
Yoshi p was moved onto a new management team. The position has less executives duties freeing him to focus more on game development. To be clear Yoshi never wanted to be on the board of directors and did not enjoy it.
The problem is really that it's not a small group on either side. And when you just flat out ignore who is asking for what and look, what do you see in an MMO but players that have no clue what they are doing? This was the case for years in FFXIV with people doing dungeons and not doing basic things such as: combos, AoE, using abilities, using mitigation, etc.
So obviously SE's solution is to make it difficult to get wrong. It's a logical decision for any organization to make something able to be done by the maximum number of users possible, because that means more custom. I do much the same thing when making a website or a discord server - I make it work for as many people as possible.
I think it's right to do it to a degree if they don't go overboard, but also having "easy" options and "hard" options helps solve the divide in opinion too, whether those are easy/hard classes or easy/hard specs.
Trusts is due to people refusing to play it "because it's an MMO". People in their surveys say they play all FF games except the MMOs. So trusts are meant to help solve that issue by allowing it to be played solo. It's a unique issue for FF specifically and not necessarily the same amount of need for it in other MMOs, where the only people that want it are the ones actively playing and complaining about grouping up. In FF there are people who would play but don't due to the stigma of it being an MMO.Quote:

I don't actually think anyone expects not to fail. That's why it's been so wrong to make a dungeon or trial clear on the first try. In fact, I think people are more happy with the game if they failed 3 or so times before succeeding, because then they will go and tell people "this game is tough". If they kill everything on the first try, they will just say the game is easy to their friends.Quote:
allowed them to fail so they understand failure is part of learning
A good new player example is Odin which, if it pops and they drag a load of mentors into it, it's typically killed during its enrage cast and sometimes this is tight depending on the damage output. Due to the lack of healing and mit abilities at that level, there are often a lot of deaths (especially among sprouts), so they come out feeling like it was a tough fight. But when so many fights in this game just get destroyed due to item level or lack of threat, what are they going to tell their friends?
Not even going to read a responce from someone who could medal in white knighting. So, it's a completely wasted effort Jeq. I've read enough of your responces on here to know better than to waste my time. The fact I am taking the time to write this is already enough. But thank you for reminding me to add you to my block list. You are truly the Titan Man of the white knights.
Your max lvl class is a lvl 71 Paladin. I'd suggest actually catching up on the content and trying extremes savages and ultimate fights before posting on the content of the game. Also 2012 and you're still not max lvl what have you been doing this whole time, I won't make assumptions based on your world.
Downvotes are easily abused. People often downvote based on popularity or groupthink rather than the actual quality of a post, leading to mass downvoting of unpopular opinions even when they’re well-argued or valuable. They can also be weaponized for personal grudges, with users downvoting content not because it’s bad but because they dislike the person posting it. This fosters a hostile environment.
A heavily downvoted post isn’t necessarily unhelpful or incorrect. It just means people don’t like it without explaining why. People who aren’t even part of the discussion can downvote posts, which doesn’t foster healthy conversation. Instead, downvotes fuel a social clout system rather than meaningful discussion, often sending mixed signals, which can be difficult for the devs to parse. Constant downvotes can discourage participation, especially for new users, making communities less diverse and engaging. Worse, bots and organized groups can exploit downvoting to silence specific users or push agendas, something still prevalent on Reddit today.
