Patch Dungeons and Gear Farming

I wish patch dungeons would drop a piece of gear for your role, similarly to MSQ dungeons.

Alternatively some sort of token you can farm and trade in for a single piece of gear of your choice would also be wonderful. If that's "too easy" then spend a few of the Aesthetics tomestones. ESO allows you to spend currency to 'buy' a piece of dungeon gear that you're missing- and for each piece of a set you already have- the price goes down. Not a bad concept and makes glamour farming (not necessarily stat farming) much easier to manage.

I've run the Yuweayawata Field Station about 30 times and the Fending gloves still elude me. Send help.

I probably ran it upwards of 50 times to get both the casting and aiming coats. Still disappointed they’re not dyeable, let alone dual dyes, but they are gorgeous! (Side note, I’ve only seen the minion 3 times during all those runs.)

While it’s not a leveling dungeon, someone suggested I keep every piece of the set I had managed to get in my Armory Chest to push the RNG towards the missing piece. It’s probably just coincidence that I got the pieces I was looking for shortly after, but I figure one day when they get around to putting everything into outfit sets, I’ll want to have the whole set anyway!

While I wouldn’t mind having a token system, I don’t think they ever will, just because there’s people like us who will run the dungeon on loop until we get what we want!

I've said it multiple times in multiple different threads about it, but all loot should be guaranteed loot like leveling dungeons. And I mean everything. You have 21 jobs to gear. TWENTY ONE! This means that if loot worked like it did in leveling dungeons, you would have to clear the dungeon 45 times sans weapons. That's already way too much, but it's better than pure rng. Pure rng can go into the thousands. And if we keep with dungeon rng, it becomes less. We are going to get the dungeons regardless because of roulettes. So guaranteeing the loot doesn't change that at all. Even clearing harder content has books to guarantee the loot. This isn't rocket science.

Pure rng is hell. So stop it, SquareEnix.... get some help.

Had suggested a glamour system that was also a safety net, think I called it crystal library.

The short: gear can be compressed into materia (token) (naming convention: 'title of area' + 'materia'), in the library allows you to convert materia into other gear (like 3 - 5 to a gear or your choice), if you collect 1.5 materia * total gear in the zone you unlock all the glamours and converting future materia into gear is cheaper too. So you can get a glamour log, and for a little extra you can pull specific items (pull as in the literal item, that has stats). Materia can also be used for other things like quests, relics, and crafting.


So play the job you want, failing to get the item you want is fine, get the glamour / gear you want in the end. Also encourages collectors to run dungeons a few times lol. Due to the materia concept inventory management is easier (can compress items in content), and additionally provided a data friendly way to add glamours (a dungeon of 30 items becomes 1 variable).

I think the simplest solution would be to allow you to trade in gear for a currency for that dungeon, which is then used to buy rewards that drop from that dungeon.

It took me 50 runs to get the Alzadaal's Maiming Chest. I agree this should be a thing. You'd still need to run it 10+ times if unlucky per gear set.

I'll second the gear guarantee, so long as we add the option of having gear not better than our currently equipped gear go to our inventory instead of our armory chest.

That said, to double up on reducing inventory waste, I'd also like to have all gear that is merely a recolor of another piece from the same dungeon be consolidated into one pieces with conditional stats (mostly in terms of Defense/M. Defense), usable by jobs of any of those roles, and try to rotate those consolidations around a bit (e.g., Aiming/Scouting & Striking/Maiming; Fending/Maiming & Striking/Scouting, Aiming/Casting & Scouting/Striking/Maiming...).

And, to that same end, I'd also like to see totems and tokens moved to the Currency Tab and perhaps even to eventually rehaul Materia to take up no room in our bags. Ideally, I'd change it into a granular currency of type (without grade, that being determined instead only by how much you put in) that is used only to change gear stats from one to another, reducing its need and removing its inventory costs. In that way it improves stat-customizability without necessarily adding steps beyond gear acquisition and greatly reduces inventory bloat.

Aside: On that note, in a distant future, if not the next FF MMO instead, would greatly increase potential job versatility and have jobs again use all primary stats to at least some degree with playstyles varied by stat balance and role determined almost equally by one's stats (so that if one has a full set of Mind gear from their WHM, they could pass that down to their MNK and play said MNK supportively, too, even if with a far lower maximum HPS), give some degree of stat cost to additional Defense and rehaul gear to actually be a collection of parts elements that are separately removable (so that you can trim down Fending gear to Maiming, Maiming to Aiming or Striking, Striking/Aiming to Scouting, etc., or vice versa), each of which would adds to some stat while reducing another. I.e., you'd have crafting actually allow for near-bespoke visible combinations of parts, making it far more interesting, while also reducing the inventory space required for omni-leveling. But that'd be a thing of pipedreams, obviously.

They should just copy and paste WoW's transmog system. I think people would feel very differently about farming for gear if it was permanently added to their glamour collection without occupying finite storage after they got the drop.

Yes, lol.


That above idea is attempting to be data friendly because they have said they have issues with large amounts of data. (Hence storing an entire dungeon as 1 variable, it's also why they are doing set storage).

What I want to know is if the armoire is infinite, then why isn't our dresser? What's different on the technical side between the two? Both are storing gear. I get one interacts with the glamour system, but it always struck me as odd one was infinite and one was finite.

What I find frustrating about this is that Blizzard don't complain about having issues with the amount of data that's being stored despite having a bigger playerbase, allowing players to have more alts and the game itself somewhat necessitating that people have alts. They probably have close to 100x the amount of character data that SE does yet they seem to be managing fine.

In the nicest possible way, as an end-user - I don't care if they have problems with data. That's what I'm paying them a monthly fee for.

They're both finite. One is limited by an arbitrary size, the other is limited by the small amount of items that are compatible with it.

Armoire has specific items that can be placed in it, so definitely not infinite. Also depending on what you're thinking of when and how much of the data is loaded. For example they've crashed the servers allowing some of those systems being loaded in certain areas. When you login to the game your inventory comes with it, it doesn't load on open of the inventory, when you check your retainer or your glamour log it's loaded when it's needed. You can see what is and isn't active by searching your items and it telling you it's not sure in X part of your storage's (until you open that during the game session).

Also between say armoire and inventory itself is one just says "I got this thing" and inventory says "I have an item that is x type with a b c d e f g y properties, in this specific slot". So one of them is a bit more needy.

I think there is also a mix of only a few programmers and specific directive to not play hard and break things lol. Generally I get a very 'conservative / consistent' sense from Yoshi-P which has been great in many ways, but makes new things very tepid / "safely" excluded from the game. Like how our unique content is often an island exclusive to itself that you can ignore, and they are very scared to put weird (especially 'new') things into the core of the game.

So you see our server changes are done very slowly, very cautiously.

Transmogs should not have a cost. It is literally advertising the game for the developer. And yet Blizzard milks its player base with ever increasing transmog costs. All in the pursuit of selling tokens.

I know that SE does not sell token in the same way Blizz does, but please don't look to Wow for inspiration. They have become a very underhanded company. I would become very suspicious very quickly if SE followed their lead.

Blizzard also sell in game currency for revenue: SE does not. This is killing the game imo. Everything is directed by a gold cost in the game atm. The token must be a high priority whenever they consider any changes in Wow. This is not a direction to take.

Wow also has a much higher subscription cost. The outlay for the game is much higher also.

And as for the higher player base. This is a factor that makes things cheaper. More players doesn't mean higher costs, it means that you can buy in a larger quantity. While at the same time taking ever increasing subscriptions.

Having played a bit recently I find gold inconsequential for regular play, though I would say the gold / gold token is not an amusing relationship (that I don't really appreciate). When it comes to buying rare items off the market, is where I'd note that (huugggee prices), but like repairing gear, transmog, and interacting with NPCs I never think about gold I just buy stuff.



If we don't like WoW, other MMOs to note, MUCH smaller MMOs than FFXIV, have equally powerful transmog (glamour) systems.

You know WoW is responsible for the overwhelming majority of the positive changes that were made between 1.0 and ARR, right? It's no secret that WoW and FFXIV have been copying each other's homework for a while now.

This isn't WoW, the MSQ Max Level dungeons are literally that just cute dungeons designed to be a part of the story that give tomes for gear, the ILVL is usually so low that it doesn't really matter so i think that's why they skip it. Now what they should but in every Raid cycle, so 3 per expansion is the Variant/Criterion Dungeons with both giving great (Criterion give Savage Ilvl and Variant something a bit higher than the MSQ dungeon one so maybe Tome ilvl or 5 under.

Wow has been an awesome game for pushing the boundaries of MMOs over many expansions. Even the current game is decent in content, pretty shallow in complexity, but still decent none the less. That does deflect from the way the game is being manipulated to milk extra cash from its subscribers. Players already paid for a game, all the while they have paid for subscriptions at the same time. Milking the player base is just pure greed and abhorrent. Blizzard have introduced many systems of late that have no other purpose than pursue the sales of tokens. Just be careful what you wish for.

I can't really tell if you're being ironic (there's a few satire posters on the forums) but FFXIV cranks this 'milking' to the maximum with churning out cash shop items and prioritizing them for second dye channel implementation (some of these cash shop pieces that were previously undyeable even got both channels with DT) while ignoring many in-game pieces (ARR WHM and BLM artifact sets come to mind).

Though as others have said, other MMOs have done better transmog systems (Wildstar had the same collection system that WoW currently does, except with the added bonus of pieces being dyeable).

More directly related to the topic though, it would be a welcome change to have more than just levelling dungeons drop pieces for your current job you do not currently have. I've ran some dungeons over fifty times and still never got the pieces I've wanted, though I've heard about players running some dungeons when they were current over 700 times in the past.

That would be nice. I've spent Hydaelyn knows how many hours grinding for glamour gear on my old account (region locked, btw). It' would be great to get some tokens that could be spent to get specific gear pieces you wanted after running a number of times.

Its gotten to the point now where if I don't get the gloves from the first chest or from the 2nd boss (only 2 places they can drop? Seriously?) I just leave party and requeue. Its faster than running through the whole thing. Its a waste of my time to keep running the rest of the dungeon.

Yes I'm still farming. 4-5 runs a day.
