Not being able to buy any of the past summer event cosmetics in-game, only one item thats not worth clicking effort.
Can't express enough disappointment.

I suppose we should be thankful we didn't get Wuk Lamat at Costa Del Sol this time? XD
You know what ? I would have found it hilarious :D
I can see the cut-scene in my head, "the jaw" shark music, camera zooming in on her tail coming out of the water and moving at an unnatural speed, everyone screaming and fleeing on sight .... that would have been perfect.
Why can't i swim in Tuliolal, Square?!?
This your first time? Seasonal events are always phoned in, and you're almost never able to purchase previous rewards outside of common consumables and the occasional furniture item they can't justify selling on mog.
The only time they've put any semblance of effort into seasonals was in 2018, with the calamatologist Rising, og jump puzzle Moonfire and duo maze Valentione's.
Still wondering what happened in 2018 that they haven't been able to replicate in any other year.
Events in general have gone downhill in recent years. The Haunted Manor, Valentione's Maze, and Development Room were the peak, but even the little minigames they added here and there were fun little diversions.
Now they're mostly:
-Short quests that are arbitrarily broken up instead of being a single continuous quest for no discernable reason other than to give the illusion of more content
-Storyline introduces a "dilemma" that is resolved in 5 minutes
-Talk to a bunch of NPCs
-Interact with destination markers or hand over a key item
It comes off as them going through the motions of making these because they feel like they have to, not because there's any passion there.
I actually would have loved this. Here's how.
Scene: WoL is lounging on a beach chair. Next to WoL is [Favorite NPC selectable from a list]. WoL and Favorite NPC prepare [Toast to their BFF Status] or [Leans in for a kiss.]
Enter: Wuk Lamat, who covers the entire camera.
Wuk: Who's ready for a Hot Wuk Summer!
Beachgoers look at her annoyed.
Wuk: So much Happiness! Your Happiness is my Happiness!"
Beachgoers have no reaction.
Wuk: Who wants to call me llama tea? Anyone? Anyone?
A whirlpool grows in the nearby waters.
Wuk: What's this? Another interdimensional rift?
Wuk gets ensared by the whirlpool. She is flung around in circles as she descends deeper and deeper. Nearby some lallafell enjoy beachball volleyball.
Wuk: WIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRDDDDDDDDDD!
Wuk looks in shock as she sees Leviathan.
Wuk: Leviatun, lissun to me!
The gaping maw of Leviathan appears, and devours Wuk whole.
Leviathan: Taste like tacos!
The WoL holds up their Summoner soul stone, which gleams.
"Your bond with Leviathan has taught you a new Summon!"
Leviathan is added to the Summoner rotation, that not only does 1400 potency but also creates a whirlpool that can suction trash mobs together.
Forgot: The Smile themesong then plays.
In all honesty I don't remember any previously purchasable bikini's in the moonfire faire in 2013. Just the ones from the Elite Cascadier title event and the ones you had to get with a voucher in Mor Dhona. Though, if any of that stuff was available as you say, color me surprised. Even more so if it took 2 years for these things to get thrown on the mogstation (that released in 2014 iirc and according to your listing, it would've been 2016 in which they stopped offering it in events and instead on the mogstation).
Still though, that's 9 years worth of events where it hasn't been the case which is where I'm very surprised that there's any expectation for it to be surprised that isn't available. Appreciate the info!
Seasonal Events have never been particularly long.... But this one felt shorter than usual... But there was also DT's release which was probably a bigger priority than Moonfire Faire for the devs.
Square Enix Holdings Co., Ltd. makes 68% of its operating profit from FFXIV. That's for the entire company. It does not use your subscription for FFXIV, it uses that money to finance console games which only make up 0.5% of its annual revenue. FFXIV is only funded by microtransactions from the online store. That's why these summer events exist: to promote FOMO and sales on the online store. You will continue subscribing and you will buy the "new" outfits on the store. Nothing will change.
Calling these things "events" feels like such a misnomer when it's a couple of quests followed by a highly situational emote that most people will never find a use for.
It's crazy to me how a lot of those 3 dollar cash shop items like the butterfly kimonos were event rewards at one point. You guys were eating good in the past, huh?

First post is complaining about Moonfire Faire.

Boring future mogstation items
My only real gripe i have, the emote doesnt loop... come on SE.. :(
One year we will get a mount that emotes splashes of water. And it may or may not look like a Bomb. A water Bomb.
oooh it has some mediocre quest! eew
why I can't just come and loot the new items
Ive never found any of the events compelling or worthwhile enough to do any of them.
They don't offer fun, i think they just offer filler for you to waste your time clicking through and walking back and forth to, in exchange for the sub time you get some inconsequential gimmick or gag.
I found the previous moonfire faire with the npc messages much much better.
It's weird the /uchiwasshoi emote is short but the /wasshoi emote is persistent. I thought it would be the same.
There were some really fun or deep events in the past.
Papa Gruff and the haunted dungeon was so much fun I did it multiple times.
The event with the maze mini game.
The rising event with the spawning monsters in Ul’dah.
The Christmas? event where you get letters from npc’s you helped in the past.
I kinda also liked the summer event where you had to dance in the fate.
This event is pretty luster but this time I give them a pass because it’s close to the expansion release.
The next event though… let’s see.
While events are always meh in FFXIV, I have noticed in the year that an expansion releases, the events tend to be worse. I hope the events are atleast a bit better next year. Dataminers have already found the Halloween event the custome looks very meh, hope the event itself is fun.
Personally, I want them to put as little effort into seasonal events as possible; that stuff is in the game for a few weeks and then it's gone forever. I'd far rather they take any bandwidth they have to make seasonal events and devote it to the parts of the game that are there all year round.
We don't even get the JPEG art as posters anymore ._.
I want to have my housing walls covered in posters but only maybe got one wall so far
Remember Fate Farming for stuff like Notes, armor sets, etc? Nahh...we cant have that here. Lets make a promotion for an Event that is literally 2 quests where you click things...and thats it. 2 Quests that took like...dont know..1 hour to program in?`Yeah. I absolutly agree, FF is running on minimum effort mode. The biggest cash cow for Square runes on minimum effort. All our sub money goes into other (crappy) games that will fail on launch.
The story was more lacking than usual...and I honestly never expect anything that great from them. But that one was...uh. A dad joke?
I have a question, if anyone here played the event in any other language than english - how does the story go? Because correct me if I'm reading it wrong, but...the whole thing was "the uchiwasshoi gets rid of evil spirits and the cactuars were drunk...spirits??? Drinks?? Get it???? ba dum tss"
Does that even work in any other language or does the quest makes even less sense than that?
Seasonal events are always like this? I always have a laugh seeing these posts every time a new one happens. There's a few that you get good rewards from every year and a few that are just kinda there. Some people also have varying opinions on what's "worth it" (I love events that have mounts, some people don't care).
They really need to put more effort into this in the future. I don't want to be rude but..., it's really not interesting and the rewards are bad, too.
SE gets so much money just from 14. It's a shame how less seems to get invested back into the game. I don't want to pay for their halfbacked other bad projects. :/
I am also afraid about the mobile FF14 that is coming. It's hard to imagine that this could become something more than a new try to milk more money from the 14 franchise, instead of solving 14's issues.
Sometimes I wonder if they are aware that a lot of people are patient for years now, but problems still don't get solved and people are getting more and more fed up and slowly leave. I know that DT release playernumbers were very high again. It's because a lot of people still hoped that things get better. But what's now? MSQ was not that good and most people are back to boredom.
And then, such a boring event. No man..., that's really a problem.
This is far from the worst event ever. All the events suck like this with maybe one odd one out that's decent per year. If even that.
I've actually played the event quests now, and personally I think it was one of the better event quests. The story was silly and didn't insist on itself too much, and it was short enough to not wear out its welcome. I had a good time.
German client: Same thing, in hindsight the dad joke works but wasn't obvious ("spirit" translating to "Geist" in both senses of the word), my takeaway was the fans working just because as I didn't make the punny connection until reading your post.
The entire event was a decent setup for the cactuars being possessed by Susano with the drinking and dancing, possibly due to Gegeruju giving them what turned out to be ceremonial wine, but whoever was in charge of the event probably didn't make the connection or was under orders not to reference anything past the requisite level of 30.
Yeah, seasonal events are generally like that. They're more or less just a quick little diversion.
With stuff from past seasonal event, they used to have an NPC selling old stuff back in the day, but once they moved to putting seasonal event items and rewards on the mogstation, that was a wrap.
I really miss the days when events were actual events and weren't quick 10-minute distractions that hand you a reward and then you completely forget about them.
They always do this at the Moonfire that comes out shortly after the expansion. It ends up being every other year we have a "big" event for the summer. I think it's pretty silly to do it that way, but SE loves to never change.
Cant wait for next year when the emote will sell like hot cakes on the mog station.
I think part of the reason for that pattern is the volatile nature of seasonal content in FFXIV. I imagine the same team that handles all the other side quests for the big x.0 release also has to do the first half year of events during that crunch so them half-assing a couple of quests that are headed straight to the woodchipper after their three weeks of relevance is kind of understandable.
They might put more care into these if they came back each year for the folks who haven't already done them, though that would cut into the online store profits so we can't have that.
