So, am I the only one who see's this..?

Just looking at similiarties of design, could just be a trend, it could be something deeper, more meaningful. But let's take the Emperor for example..

I've honestly thought for awhile that the Empire secretly houses something of a Primal, despite their supposed hatred for them.

It reminds me much of the Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind. The Imperial army of that storyline abhors magic and wants to quash it everywhere, except their own. They want to rid the world of 'tyranny of magic', yet at the same time, they use magic of their own to see their ends met.

Perhaps I'm just grasping for similiarties, but the thought had been bugging me since I saw the old man emperor, so thought I'd ask community.

I feel like he resembles Golbez more than the Emperor. You couldn't have picked a better picture of Golbez either! They look really similar. However, Golbez was never depicted with a horse so we kind of have to rule him out.

Interesting thought.
But, there's the lore thing about the king on the site, that talks about his bad health.
Not that it disproves your theory.

1) King isnt a primal. (How can a god (or a pseudo god) get sick)
2) King still isnt Odin, but uses his body to allow odin's spirit to control him. (Making him sick)
3) He is Odin, and people mistake his sickness for something else.

We know that Odin is a wandering Primal, so it's unlikely the two are linked.

Hope there is a new Kefka behind the emperor.

It not that he is Odin, you misunderstand. Its that the same sort of designs, headpieces, armor, etc, following suit.. could mean that Odin, is actually a part of the Empire's arsenal, since we really know nothing about how Odin plays a part in this game as of now.

Considering gods can actually die in a lot of mythology, and quite a few due to reasons other than murder, I wouldn't exactly rule this out.

Not that I really agree with this whole idea to begin with, just felt like pointing that out.

I think it's just because it's the same art director. The guy likes horns, and such. That's all.

Anyone else think the emperors hat looks way too clunky and top heavy for an 80 year old sick man to be wearing? I mean look at it its like 3-4 times larger than his head

If the Emperor worships Odin, he would still hate and want to destroy the other primals so that just Odin could rule. After all, Garuda spoke of them stealing her power to summon the 'other'. Who's stealing it? Garleans, right? To summon what other? Odin??? I think so.

That the Emperor could be Odin or has the power to summon Odin is an interesting thought and is quite plausible.

Another idea is this: Perhaps the Emperor is the unknown thirteenth god (who was exiled by the Twelve)... so he figures if he destroys the Primals, the power of the other gods/godesses weakens and he can once more declare himself their leader.

Or something like that.

If the emporer "is" Odin, those shoulder pads ...picth black with what looks like golden raven beaks....
well then... it could possibly be odin. (that character design...is too simmilar)

With all this time-talk thats gonna happen to FFXIV...who knows.

Odin had 2 ravens, sitting on each of his shoulders, huginn & muninn.
See where im going with this?...."The Black Wolf - Gaius" & "The White Raven - Nael"
(the simmilarities are there...and the color matches nicely too.)

Are we gonna be sent back in time or forth?

If back, then the possibility of a younger Emporer.....well you get the idea.
But then again...seeing as we are getting railroads, im guessing a few
years forth in time is where we are heading.

And according to the lore of the emporer...
"Solus zos Galvus began his military career at a young age.
After a string of impressive victories on the field of battle"

Odin... has always been impressive in terms of badassness in FF games.

For all we know the Emporer can possibly transform himself.

The Empire is using ancient Allag technology to summon Dalamud closer to Eorzea as it's a prison that holds the Elder Primal Odin, whom the Emperor worships. Odin, using Zantetzuken, would cleanse Eorzea of all those whom are deemed unworthy. The Empire attempts to remove Ifrit, Garuda and other Primals in a bid to release enough aether to free Odin from Dalamud, where he was imprisoned by the Allag Empire long ago.

Ifrit also mentions in the quest "Lord Errant" that we (the player) have the ability to call forth our own Primal, which currently remains unidentified. So when the Empire calls forth Odin from his moon-like prison, who is strong enough to stand up to it? Or own Primal. Alexander. >:D



(All speculation, of course.)

He looks more like Ramuh to me.

Remember in FF4 where the king dies and his spirit becomes the Odin summon? They did say this was going to be a fanservice title :D

If you play alot of FF you realize that all Odin designs have Horns.
It's pretty much a basic design of odin.

Why every patch there's someone comparing this or that character to Odin ? couldn't be a mythological creature like every FF ? .-.
Also, the empire is at war with primals, the idea the emperor is one of them is faulty without any more evidence

The Crystal Tower is the tomb of an old king so Odin could easily come from there.
I'm starting to think something else is on Dalamud and not Odin, especially after this patch. Hopefully we'll get more information with the lettered patches.

I have been thinking the same thing for a while now too, OP.

There are so many possibilities behind the similarities, but it can't just be a coincidence. The meaning behind it is going to be a lot less profound then what we are hoping for. I think we are just putting too much thought into it.

The quote above just adds to the ambiguity in this equation, trying to wrap our minds around it at this point in the game will be fruitless. All we know about Odin from other games is that he is pretty much the end all be all master of death. ff9 he destroyed an entire race of happy tree hugging, granola eating rodents in one hit, ff8 he would show up at the beginning of fights and one shot random encounters, ff7 odin materia was insta-death added to your attacks.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if the garleans worshiped Odin.

Maybe it's a magitek device that's keeping him alive?

Wait a minute ...dying Emperor being kept alive by magical technology, whose power-armoured legions go forth to slaughter anything that isn't human enough for their liking, with huge, mechanised vehicles armed with powerful artillery, all with unmatched religious fervour and dogma ...sounds familiar somehow.

The fantasy genre is getting stagnant. The same formulas have been played out thousands of times. The trick of the genre now is to disguise your variables & add lots of excessive sex scenes which push the boundary of what is and is not acceptable literature in today's society.

If the Primals share their power, and if by defeating one-after-another they can become stronger, then it's just as likely that one of the primals has declared war on the others.

Plus, chances could just as easily make it out that the "hatred of primals" was propaganda itself to conquer Eorzea. Just like how wars happen to gain support in the real world.

maybe its a crown design of the ancients, crowns and Royal headwear are passed down for thousands of years. Odin may have been around when that particular design was popular, or odin may have once been the ancient races Guardian Primal and as such they designed the royal crown from Odin.
