Disappearing npc(s) and players.

Being that I am paying a subscription, I would like more quality in the product that I buy. Like so many I want the game to have success in it's release/push for 2.0. I understand the devs are working more to this goal, but the problems on this current game still needs to be address. We have content and instance raids, but the game is lacking in quality. Here is my biggest grape. When I'm in town or doing hamlet defense; things just tends to disappear. Do you know how frustrating it is, when you can't target because there's nothing to target! So what if you give us content you can't play correctly. I'm asking for customer's satisfaction for a product that we invest our money and time.:p

I think he's referring to how players will randomly disappear for a little bit. I've noticed it while in Ul'dah.

I think it is related to the limitations of I think 45 players on the screen at once. Not sure, though.

All thier resources are tied into 2.0. if you dont understand that its best you unsub till 2.0

It's an engine restriction and one of the main focuses for 2.0. The current client just can't handle more than 40 characters/objects at a time.

what imp said. it happens to everyone in towns especially uldah if you can or have a program go and look at your fps inside the city versus outside the city... huge difference.

Just to point out first ... the current game version and client are going offline forever in about ... less than 2 months now. Given that, don't expect to see any system side changes of relevance in patch 1.23 ... it'll probably be almost 100% content. Burning huge man hours into system changes that will be thrown out in 6 weeks time doesn't make sense.

Secondly, the issues you're mentioning here are issues that legitimately can't be fixed in the current client in the first place. That's why 2.0 exists at all. But i agree, it's really annoying, @_@ ... and often i think so myself, had Tanaka been given a couple more years of development time, he might have been able to realise a quality 'game', but two years or twenty could not ever have overcome a crappy client. This game was doomed years before it even launched just for that. Thankfully ... mercifully ... we're getting a new client. *_*

I think it's awkward that someone is requesting changes like this to the current version of the game so late on the roadmap to 2.0.

Not only is it impossible with the current engine, it's also pointless to do at this time even if it were possible.

I don't really understand why anyone in the know would request this.

Honestly, the only possible answer to this thread is you simply haven't followed/read/understood anything about this game and it's march to version 2.0. Yet you have many 50's and high level DoL/DoH.

But SE has basically said any meaningful changes will be happening in 2.0. So buck up and wait along with us till then. :D If they do a shoddy job, feel free to log in here or on other websites and bash them. :P

It's just his request is unreasonable this late in the game. (not to mention was always impossible on this version of the game)

It's that simple. Paying subscriber or not.

It's really just confusing how he is requesting this change if he knows anything about the game's rebuild....

Sometimes i forget, and i'm sure i'm not the only one ... that mostly everyone out there who isn't really FIRMLY invested in this game right now has very little knowledge as to what's going on. Remember that only paying subscribers can even see the info on these forums ... and outside of here, maybe the lodestone page is good, but only if you even bother reading it ... beyond that, there's Yoshi's interviews, but you'd have to bother to look.

If you take a player who might have ignored this game until legacy came up a couple months ago, chances are, even they won't be caught up on everything there is to know ... let alone the gobs of people who still when you talk about FFXIV they respond, 'That games not dead yet'?

Edit: as for the many 50's ... *facepalm* That .. well, ... there's no accounting for ignorance ... or perhaps just laziness. It is possible to play the game every day i suppose and make no effort to follow the flow of information? Stilll... there might be nothing i look forward to more in 2.0, than never seeing character sprites load in front of me again. ;)

I wonder did you're server experience a server error like us here on Excalibur?

And for you, buddy I don't have all these 50s, because I was pling. I've invested 21 months into this game when it was free. Don't remembering having these issues then. Hmm, don't think we had the content to compare with. The time was invested to come up with the content, so how about putting the time in making sure it works as well. Common sense

Someone who has invested 21 months into the game would have at least a slight clue as to why the current version of the game functions the way it does, as well as reasonable if not completely clear knowledge that 2.0 is around the corner and aims to fix the issue.

The current version has always -always- been limited to displaying 40 players/npc objects at any given time and selects which elements to load at random.

This was not some problem that just randomly happened later on. It was always the poor design of the game engine and a flaw built into the tools that create the game (crystal tools sucks).

How do you not know any of this when the development team and Yoshi-P have been very transparent about the game client and server structure being crappy basically right from the start?

Even more confused now.

The needs of the many outweighs the needs of the few

21 months of free play?

i'm sure they can read the forum. They just can't write.

That the client can only load a fixed amount of chars and objects is old story.
Because of this they gave important NPC a higher priority to load

Actually, Crystal Tools is awesome... if you're designing a single-player game where you can control the number of moving elements on screen and work your combat engine around known graphical loading constraints. Works like a charm in XIII.

It's selection as the engine for XIV where a real-time and highly responsive environment is desired - now THAT was the silly move.

This is why the new engine in 2.0 has been designed for purpose. But that's the kind of fix that takes 2 years to implement, the culmination of which is just around the corner.

As has already been said, this is a limitation of the current engine to only display 40 or so characters on screen at once. Yoshi-P himself already said this will not happen in 2.0. Welcome to like a year ago.

Obviously, this happens in markets all the time. I rarely notice it happening in towns. I've never seen this happen in dungeons. The only instance i've seen it happen in is Hyrstmill hamlet defense. Sometimes 2 of 3 of the back line archers will disappear when a large wave of mobs comes in, but they appear again shortly thereafter. And if ur close enough to cure, they will be visible anyway. It's not a problem. Maybe your computer just sucks.

Oh, and the problem was always there. You just didn't notice it during F2P because there weren't enough players around, lol.

This caught my eye. I run on an Crucial M4 SSD and 4.5Ghz i5-2500k and the loading times between screens are atrocious when they should be near instant or at least just much, much, faster. The loading times ARE going to get better, right? They have to, right?!

I assume they will be.. with that 2.0 refined engine and all.

I dont mean to scare you, but Yoshi has been relatively vague about this. Regarding the PS3 he clearly states that that will be an issue for players, they will have like 45-60 npcs and other players on the screen at a given time. Dont quote me on that. And for PC players it will be dependent on your hardware(which if we judge from the last 2 years, SE is quite poor at optimizing).

Ultimately, I am hoping for improvement. I dont have the greatest computer but I went out and bought a gtx470 when the game first came out, and when i first started playing I was very disappointed.

The reason for this is simple: Too many NPCs/mobs/players in view. This limit is supposed to be greatly increased in 2.0.

As a paying customer, I too like to see quality in my products. But I am content to wait for that already planned quality to be implemented rather than post "I'm a customer, fix my game now!"

I'm speaking for my server, just after posting this thread all the problems that a mention is obvious so bad that Excalibur has more issues than most servers. I'm assuming this is because of the higher population our server had. And yeah I expect them to put out a quality product. I have to assume as well that most of you still live with your parents and they provide you with things without working for it. So it would be a waste of my time to explain to you the value of dollar. But go ahead defend them bash me for speaking up.

Just piping in here, Excalibur isn't especially bad vs other servers, check your game settings if you're suffering individual problems.

Other than that, your complaints have already been addressed time and time over. If you can deal with it until the end of September for the Beta, you're golden. If not, please unsubscribe now, as the issues will not be addressed until that time.

You're being attacked for some reason because 75% of the people who go on these forums want to look/sound cool and intelligent as soon as someone complains about something that is going to be address in the new version of the game, yet they know just as much information on 2.0 as the next person.

Don't take offense...just be patient for 2.0 and I'm sure most clunky/broken things in the game will be addressed, if not completely fixed and rid of.

Your feedback lost any clout by throwing out personal attacks.

As others have mentioned, the server coding and infrastructure is being totally redone for version 2.0 which is coming out at the end of the year. (beta a couple months before then) If the character limit is that big of an issue for you, stop paying and come back when the new version is available.

im waiting for 2.0 but ill admit it gets hella annoying when im running around events and I cant "see" the mob until its dead or dying

Are you talking about the loading times between Menu Screens? I'm sure that'll be way faster. I only have a Corsair Force Series 3, and everything loads instantly. Just the menus are slow.
