SQEX Attempt to Eradicate "Foreigners" from JP Server by BLOCKING/Convolute PAYMENT.

Gaijinocide is currently happening in mostly SEA countries since it's not listed/recognized by Sqex. This is also affecting people that migrating from their previous country, since they won't allow you to change country.

Some countries can use Paypal to buy Crysta but for my case, it's giving 11000 error and Crysta option is permanently unavailable.

The only option is game time card, but it's overpriced for an already weak currency in my region. As it forced you to sub for 60 days, retailer costs, and Standard sub instead of Entry. On top of that, some people trying to sub with game time card also met with page asking for address (I can't verify this yet, not planning to resub atm).

I personally think isn't an honest mistake from their part and 100% intended. As their Notice from weeks ago is clear with their intention. But I hope I'm wrong and Sqex will rollback and fix their payment system.

edit: For people that don't believe my "tinfoil hat" theory, please come up with a more logical and sensible reason why Sqex suddenly block payment so close to DT.

I doubt it.

Mostly because if it is, it would be really, really effin' stupid. Because literally nothing is stopping say an NA player from making a character a JP DC, since unlike say WoW there is no necessity to have separate game accounts for each region.

The difference is, NA player have place in NA to play on their own server, it's not a problem for them if NA doesn't have reason to play in JP and can't speak their language. SEA region doesn't have and the only destination is JP, we "have to" play in JP.

Why should they willingly lose potentially thousands of paying customers?

Especially right before an expansion release?

This move would cost them millions of dollars.

What you don't seem to understand, and wasn't able to penetrate the tinfoil you've wrapped your head in, is that North American and European players can readily make characters on Japanese data centers and play there should they wish. Obviously, the payment processor move has nothing to do with keeping foreign players off the Japanese data center. If, in conjunction with the change to their payment processor, they locked people to their home data centers you might have a leg to stand on.

Either find a way to pay with a method of payment accepted by the store or resign yourself to having to buy gamecards.

Considering Japan still uses fax machines like it's 1990s and the website feels like it's stuck in that era, don't think it's any of that you mentioned. All you have to do is look at Technical Support and see how many people have similar issues with that matter. It's just all potato got mashed up but isn't tasteful.

Tinfoil or not, the fact is NA/EU able to play in JP is not a problem for them because there is no reason to unless you have a friend. NA/EU never caused problems in JP DC unlike SEA.
You can play in JP right now, but do you need to? No you don't, so does 99.9% of NA/EU population. Just because you can, doesn't mean you need to.

I've playing in Japan for years and I'm in NA.

Frankly I think the test for Materia Regional Travel is the opening for having that travel everywhere.

It's sounds like you're confusing which region's game license you have to purchase with what worlds you're allowed to play on.

Chances are that as a SEA player, you have to purchase the JP game license (would have to look at the EULAs to verify which region's license is correct for your country of residence). But once you have your account set up, you can create your character on any world of your choosing as long as it's not Congested or locked to character creation.

As for why so many players are now running into problems, you can thank the scammers that were engaging in massive credit card fraud a couple of years ago. Square Enix was getting hit with so many chargebacks that they had to make several changes, including players no longer being able to gift most items on the cash shop to other players and SE needing to change to a different payment processor that is more rigid with its process to filter out potential fraud before a payment is authorized.

SE isn't happy about potentially losing the business of the players affected but they would be even less happy if they lost the business of the majority of their customers because their banks wouldn't allow them to accept credit card payments at all anymore.

This isn't some scheme to weed out foreigners from the JP data centers. Players with characters in other regions are also being affected by this. It's the fallout from their need to get the credit card fraud problems under control.

At this point, the best thing to do is contact the Support Center as they've requested players do if they are now having payment issues. They want to work with those affected to see if a way can be found so you can continue to play the game. They probably won't respond to you immediately because this is affecting a lot of players and Support is going to have handle each player individually based on their specific situation.

Complaining here in the forum is not going to change things.

Me and thousands of other NA players with NA game licenses have characters on JP worlds. It's nothing out of the ordinary. I also have characters on the OCE and EU data centers as well, all from my sole NA game license.

This isn't WoW, where the region for your game license limits what servers your characters can be on. Which regional FFXIV game license you have to purchase is restricted based on your country of residence for legal purposes but it doesn't limit which worlds you can play on.

Ok I'll clarify that when I said I "have to" it's related to ping, technically I can play in all regions we all know this, but you can't play comfortably on further servers.

This is the worst defense on Sqex bad practice so far, I bought stuff physically/digitally regularly and not a single merchant have this trash payment system at all, literally zero. If others small merchant/Publisher can do it, why the hell Sqex can't?

Lmao please don't compare some stragglers from NA/EU tourist in JP to the massive size of "native" foreigners in Tonberry/Kujata/Masamune they're trying to stomp. It's as good as non-existent.

This is ridiculous. As someone that has played a JP game that has tried to remove its foreign player base, I can tell you that this has nothing to do with blocking foreign players. If you want to stop foreigners from playing a game you simply block foreign IPs from connecting. It's an extremely effective tactic that will get all but the most diehard fans. Changing payment processors to a more strict payment processor is probably the least effective way to stop foreigners from playing your game. Especially when you sell game time cards.

Look, you weren't there when Chinese players coming to Mana in waves of hundreds/thousands and filling "HxD" in PF everywhere on the entire server during EW.
And in single day, Sqex got rid all of them like a magic. These guys working in Sqex are smart people, the thing you said is so amateurish in comparison. So I wouldn't be surprised if this is another preemptive move from them before the next big expansion.

Since I don't know Japanese, I can't really research whether it affects them as well. JP people seem to use twitter the most rather than the forums. It does, however, affect SEA people the most. Apparently FF11 had a similar issue but it took them months to fix.

Best case scenario: SE manages to fix it before DT launch and everyone's happy
Worst case scenario: SE will ignore these issues because JP people aren't affected

Having mods ban a bunch of people is incredibly easy. Especially if they are engaging in nuisance behavior. What I said isn't amateurish, it's literally what Monster Hunter Frontier Z did, and Phantasy Star Online 2 is still doing. I can tell you that it is extremely effective at keeping the vast majority of foreigners out and that JP game companies aren't shy about putting up IP blocks. If SE really wanted to kick gaijins out of the JP datacenters, they would just IP restrict them. Or, if they were feeling vindictive, they could track IP locations and ban accounts that connect from outside of Japan. This isn't about xenophobia, this is about payment fraud.

It's likely not to "prevent people from playing on a JP server".

It's also likely not to "prevent SEA players" because an OCE data center was created just for them.

It's likely because they want the appropriate currency value to be paid and for it not to be possible to pay less by using a different region.

Obviously, this may be too expensive for many and cause them not to play, but it's been an ongoing issue people have had for a long time in certain countries with significantly different currency values.

Which is stupid because when people move irl they end up using the currency of their new region in every other context but are still stuck paying with their old currency in FFXIV.

My husband has been paying a cheaper sub in GBP because he has a UK account but he has lived in Finland with me for years. After contacting them in the past they literally refused to accept a higher price in euros from him so he's been paying less than me all this time even though this is a supported region. Now it's looking likely he will run into payment problems after his sub runs out and he is not going to waste any more time fighting with SE about this. One less Dawntrail sale for them, well done!

There's clearly a issue with payments at the moment, but if they wanted to stop people from playing on Japanese servers, they wouldn't allow everyone to make a character on Japan Data Centers. Right now anyone, regardless of which region they are in, can make a character on any of the servers for the four data center regions.

I'm genuinely curious why they don't have license in SEA/ SEA Steam tbh when you can buy 15 and 7 on steam with no issues.

Paypal is not a widely accepted payment system to people who actually live in Japan. People who live here can easily goto almost any convenience store and buy crysta there (it's like buying an Apple or Nintendo point card). Alternatively, you can just use a credit card.

I'm a foreigner living in Japan and it's super easy to set this up/pay for this game (again) assuming you actually live in the country.

I think a ton of people in the thread mistook this as complaining about characters and servers, but it isn't about that. As I said earlier, its Service Account region (your mogstation/squeenix account).
For example, when I started this game in 2013, there were no clear direction/recommendations yet on how to do this. So I made my Service Account NA region and my address to the proxy delivery service I've been using for years. Fast forward to 2024 and there still is no means for anyone from SEA to sign-up and play the game legally (aside from I think the 1 or 2 countries who are able to buy the game through Steam). It's a service issue.

Now this conspiracy theory is really stretching if I ever saw one. I believe they tried to secure their players better, but just implemented it so poorly that it's doing more damage than good.

The fact still stands that a lot of Tonberry/Kujata foreigners getting their subscription payment convoluted and some even straight up blocked. Their silent shows that this is 100% intended outcome they wanted.

The only fraud here is Sqex themselves.
Such a great beginning for a new fresh start for DT, trailer failed to hype, benchmark failed, payment failed, so much for a 10-Anniversary lmao.

If you're so convinced you're correct, why are you trying to continue to do business with a company that doesn't want your business? They're not providing any sort of essential service to you.

Appreciate the suggestion, but this problem is very specific to a group of minority people in this game. You will just getting ignored and pretend you don't exist until next week, things back to normal and those payment problem people gone. Nothing happened. Back to get my forum points for these people.
