unlike the sch, the smn is not accompanied by any pets

the attack that the Monk showcased appears to be a visual upgrade to a combo skill, my money's on either Twin Snakes or Snap Punch.

It looks like a lightning skill so I'd bet on it being ramuh based and the shot doesn't have the pet because it's done in that weird interim period where the summon is disappearing and carbuncle is reappearing on purpose to hide ramuh.

If you look in the background, just before the SMN explosion, you can see MNK perform another attack, which appears to be an uppercut with a dragon. I could make a statement that that is a Dragon Kick upgrade, which then leaves the tiger as either True Strike or Twin Snakes.

Either way, it looks like MNK is finally getting some visual upgrades.

My predictions:
DRG- It's getting fully reworked so no clue. Possibly a stardiver followup or another firstminds focus spender.
DNC- Upgraded saber dance
MNK- Snap punch or twin snakes upgrade
SAM- I watched this at .25 speed. Kaiten is back!!!!!! The new skill i suspect is something like an upgraded tenka goken. Perhaps kaiten is now a skill that just empowers iajutsu's and this is what empowered TG looks like? Also worth noting the samurai immediately follows up with Gekko so this seeminly doesn't break combos. EDIT: Kaiten is not back, it's ikishoten. So nvm, i have no idea what SAM's new skill is.
NIN- Hellfrog upgrade.
MCH- I'm betting on an upgraded drill of some sort. I doubt this is a new skill. You also see the MCH use chainsaw as the camera is panning over.
BRD- Given the absence of a yellow/blue flash this may be a cast? Perhaps an aoe wanderer's minuet spender?
RPR- You know how during enshroud you use 2 GCD's and follow it up with an OGCD? Same concept but for communio. If you play it back really slowly you can see communio's particles on the mob before this animation plays.
BLM- Seems to just be a thunder upgrade. Worth noting no AF or UI orbs orbiting the black mage.
SMN- Similar animation and sfx as fester but with a thunder effect. Possibly this is what fester becomes when you summon Ramuh? Could just be a fester upgrade.
RDM- Given the blue flash this is an OGCD. Could be something usable only after embolden but I doubt that. Probably a visual upgrade to contre sixte.

The evidence that the new BRD skill shown in the benchmark might have a cast time has me super excited, however the BRD is also shown using instant cast Burst Shots, and to that I say do not be afraid to add a walking cast to that skill. It will be worth it. Trust.

Summoner is more than likely using a Ramuh skill.

Regarding SMN, as people pointed, it could either be FesterII or Ramuh.

FesterII would be the most reasonable approach. It's a single animation, probably doesn't need much dev developpement and it's kind of overdue.

However, we do not see Carbi. It could be during that very short window of time where you're in between 2 summons and its not there... or as people have suggested, Ramuh.

Ramuh would imply a whole new set of 3 summons.

With their new system, it is totally possible, afterall why not? Unlike the old system where you could choose which pet to keep, you're forced to go through all summons now so there's no pointless summon.
However it would be rather costy in term of game developpement, we're talking 3 whole new set of animations. 3 new tiny rotation, that's a lot.

SMN currently suffers from being too simple, so that could very well be a way of addressing it.
Ramuh, Leviathan are a given, but Shiva? Like, we never really "kill" Shiva. Also Shiva is quite different from the others as she's never a proper summon, more a transformation. How would she be treated? Do we go into "Shiva's form" like the repear goes into emo-mode ?

This is definitely the coolest approach but I'm quite skeptical, that would be A LOT of ressources for one job.

Pretty much spot on regarding the Thunder name.

There is a good chance this is actually "Burst". Burst is the thunder-type spell equivalent of Flare, Freeze, Tornado, Quake, Flood, Holy and Doomsday (names taken from various FF and Bravely titles). Already exists in PvP, with a slightly different animation.

Of course chance it could just be "High Thunder IV" (implying there is also a High Thunder III) but I hope for better. Would be nice if BLM finally had the thunder equivalent to Flare and Freeze.

I'm curious if this only consumes the final job action or if it'll be like RDM.

I wouldn't be surprised if Communio can now be used at any point in enshroud without ending it and the new skill is the finisher. It would give you a bit more flexibility to choose when to cast.

"Burst" is the FFXI name of the lightning elemental ancient magic, like "Flare" is for fire and "Freeze" for ice.

The thing is that the lightning at the end of the animation is very reminiscent of Ramuh's thunder orbs seen even in his ShB fight.

Maybe they made the awkward Fester/ED interact with the summons, which would be lovely becasue those actions feel like a relic of the past that doesn't fit the new SMN anymore.

Th color is the reason I don’t think it’s fester II. Lightning magic in this game has that dark purple color.

Fester isn’t lightning aspected. Though I suppose they could pull the white mage thing where one thing becomes another.

ya i watched both animations slowed down and they both do an inward orb thing then explode

if SMN really did get Ramuh/Leviathan/Shiva I suspect it'd be a level 100 capstone ability, not 92-94. sorry, but I believe it more likely to be Fester 2 as well.

Would be a nice troll move, if that wouldnt be ramuth, but Susanno (didnt he used lightning attack to?).^^

yes I think it's Fester II unless summon Ramuh momentarily changes Fester and Painflare to an "electric" version

I hope that at least one new summon is included... and I think this expansion is the last hope to see it

I’m gonna be really angry if after they gave summoner a “new base”, and the only meaningful upgrade we get is a new animation and potency boost for fester lol.

my Idea for a SMN Change would be to be more like FFX SMN or FFXVI, where you transform into the Summon or take more direct control over it.

SMN could actually get a capstone lv100 OGCD nuke type of skill that's available to use after a full Bahamut and Phoenix rotation. Might be something like a channel Ramuh nuke.

I just see them prioritizing fixing/adding more to SMNs simplicity, by updating current skills and adding a big new flashy skill at lv100. Over adding 3 new summons and keeping SMN as it is.

The issue is, why would "Ramuh" be such a powerful skill compared to any other summon?
Like, it doesn't make much sens.

I'm convinced it's just FesterII too, they'd never showcase a "big main" skill on that. If we do keep Ramuh, or 3 new summons, it's gotta be in the skill showcase.

The issue with introducing Ramuh, to me, would be that it should be a minor summon like Garuda, Ifrit and Titan.
If you add 1 minor alone, it doesn't fit anywhere in the rotation unless it does something like "replace your next summon by Ramuh".

But then, if you add Ramuh, why just Ramuh? Why not Leviathan and Shiva to complete the 6 elements.

This could fit neatly, Bahamut > Garuda/Ifrit/Titan > Pheonix > Ramuh/Levi/Shiva and add some complexity to that job.

What would need to be considered is the dev cost. 3 new stance would probably be costy, we're still talking about at least 3 new animations, possibly more.
On top of that, there'd be the issue of Shiva.

Lore wise, you do not summon shiva, you become shiva. Therefor, what would make the most sens would be that shiva becomes a Reaper like ability where you assume Shiva's form.
But this would probably be very costly in term of developpement.

I agree with you when you say, they'd probably priortize adding more to smn simplicity.

Personally, assuming 3 extra summon would be impossible, I'd go for Pheonix and Bahamut having an extra button to make the burst phase less brain dead.

I'm hoping that reaper skill is a upgraded aoe skill and not the level 100 skill. More than likely it will be used before communio so expect a 6 dot bar

Oh I used Ramuh as an example. But im definitely leaning toward a Big Boom OGCD at lv100 with more stuff added to SMNs simplicity.

3 different summons after Phoenix would be nicer tho.

I can't imagine that no new summons will be implemented for level 100.
A summon has been added in every expsansion (if we exclude HW's Bahamut trance)

HW: Bahamut Trance
SB: Demi-Bahamut
ShB: Demi-Phoenix
EW: Ifrit / Titan / Garuda

so I can deduce that something will be added in this case too... not just upgrades to existing spells

I mean... If you consider Ifrit / Titan / Garuda to be a new summon, then they can simply upgrade their visual furthermore and make them look like the one in Eden's raid.
Level 90 skill is litterally a visual (and potency) upgrade.

Only SB and ShB had new summons, that's it.

I really hope we get some new summon, but saying our lv 90 skills are new summons is really something I wouldn't agree on.
It's by far the laziest lv 90 skill/upgrade among every single job.

Somebody datamined the Benchmark and posted a pasterbin, on ffxivdiscussion subreddit, of just some strings of code.

I'm taking with a grain of salt because stuff changes, but according to the posters who can read more into those strings, SMN seems to be getting a new Demi after Firebird Trance, and it seems to be a new version of Bahamut, SolBahamut or somethign like that lol. And nothing related to new gemstones. As well as potential unkown upgrades to Fester and Searing Light.

I just wanted Ultima, I didn't think I was asking for much.

it's a possiblity

take this with a grain of salt since I can't personally validate it, but someone on reddit posted some datamined info from the trailer, and it showed enkindle bahamut skill transforming to enkindle phoenix transforming into a third skill. If true, this is pretty huge.

it implies not only a third burst summon, but also potentially the death of the two minute DPS meta (unless the lego skills no longer take up a full minute) but also means that the new summons could be locked behind the third enkindle phase.

I really really hope we get some new skills for the 1min burst phase... I don't mind SMN being easier than other, but atm it is too easy...
Like, there's just simply no progression to the job. You can't feel like you're doing good by optimising anything like on BLM or even RDM with using your melee combo for movement.
The only thing you have to worry about is ifrit... 2 cast once a minute... Samurai has more cast !
