Asura in XIV Was a Disgrace to the legacy of FFIV

This summon rarely gets representation in the franchise, but lately she has been getting really bad features. First she is in the worst version of Chocobo Racing for the Switch, and then she is mishandled in XIV.

She barely even uses her other faces, and is just a throwaway relic weapon boss. Its stupid. There should of been an EX version at the very least with extra rewards. Perhaps instead of contributing to the mount farm, there could of been something unique offered.

It could of been a mount of its own, a glamour set from Thavair, or anything really. It doesn't matter as long as it acts as an incentive. The lack of an EX version was a disgrace to those who waited for this summon for so long. :/

I can understand the disappointment regarding Asura, however, it remains content related to Hildibrand, and for once, we didn't have another battle against Gilgamesh.

I admit that the fight is not very interesting, and one may wonder why it exists.

But never before have the challenges in the Hildibrand quests offered more than just a regular battle.

It wasn't a secret that Asura wouldn't have an Extreme version and would be a fight primarily because a battle needed to be released for Hildi.

Anyway, considering how Endwalker only provided the bare minimum, one shouldn't have expected anything better.

Gilgamesh also deserved an ex, his song is incredibly hype and he's iconic as well. shame

Hilde is where neat trial bosses go to die.

I'm sure he'll probably fight Sephiroth one day and it'll end with that Sephiroth running gif.

They COULD have given an Extreme version of the fight that made more use of her... Or the Gilgamesh fight... But Square loves missed opportunities when it comes to Hildibrand I guess.

This is incidental. These trials just happened to end up in the Hildibrand Adventure quests, but would have the same problems regardless of what questline they'd be attached to.
The last two trials that showed up in the Manderville quests were both featured at Fan Festivals. As such, they are made for when the first Fanfest rolls around, but are included in the game only after the final one is over.

This has a few consequences:

• The boss will be designed to be completed by groups of people randomly assembled at Fanfest within a time limit. Square still wants the majority of people there to be able to beat it, so the mechanics are severely undertuned as a result.
• The boss will be tuned to the iLevel that was "current" when the first Fanfest occured, but released a good 2-3 patches later. This means pretty much everyone will be overgeared for it, further reducing the challenge.
• There is no EX version as the trials are made for Fanfest only. As such the usual rewards for those are not provided.

The first two points are likely to never change with Fanfest battles, as Square wants to build the trial and then not worry about it anymore, re-tuning it every Fanfest and then again when it releases into the game.
The last one would require Square to allocate resources that they are apparently unwilling to commit to it so far, and it may be the one thing I could see them change one day. I would be very much in favour of Fanfest battles getting an EX version, which could then be tuned to the time they release in game, as that version wouldn't be at Fanfest. Alas, I won't hold my breath for it.

Maybe SE wanted to be asura'd that everyone could beat it.

They should do what they did with the original fanfest trial- Odin

In fanfests they nerf his damage and make his mechanics easier so it can be cleared with randoms, then in the main game it’s an easier than average EX

If it was also the Hildibrand trial the direct fanfest trial can be the story mode version

The fight was very mid. But in terms of plot at least it has confirmed to us that primals can infact still be summoned without the Ascian's influences and plotting and quite possibly be more controlled by the humans without their interferences. This could be a plot reveal that may matter again down the road.

Kinda hoping the Arcadion involves Gilgamesh or variant of him, a decent guess ive heard come up for Arcadion is another "Omega" esque tournament.

They seem to make dramatic "I quit" threads to only take an extended break then come back to find more story things to complain about to then just do another "I quit thread" after making multiple fanfiction threads.

It was a neat fight with great visuals, but I'm not sure why its tied to the Hildebrand story, its not comedic and feels extremely out of place, feels like a trial we should have gotten during our stint in Thavnair during the MSQ if Endwalker wasn't rushing us to the moon asap, or a post-patch trial assuming we weren't fighting the four fiends. Also I would have appreciated a second remix of the FFIV boss them like how Battle with the Four Fiends got remixed twice for Barbariccia and Rubicante.

Feels like its just a bonus fight on top of the relic to add in one last FFIV homage before the expansion ended, which is shame for those that wanted to see Asura get more care into her fight.

but I wish they had handled it like Varus

"Normal" mode should have been a Solo "Trial" with WoL, Hildi, Nashu, Brandi, Godbert, Julyan, Delion, and the CLB... and Pupu could have provided some kind of support with a Duty Action. The Great Work was right there, where they made the scales to resist tempering... like when everyone was like "Welp it's a primal GL, they should have turned around to see CLB there with his arms full of scales.

Then there should have been an EX version that players actually queue up for with each other.

Felt like a fight that was meant to have an engaging Extreme, but got scrapped so it could be part of Hildibrand.

And honestly I wish they'd stop making Hildibrand

I think I'll be constantly begging for Gilgamesh XII version to appear for dunno how many years, I just love that look, it would blend so well with XIV.

I find the backlash of the whole Hildi questline infinitely funnier than the questline itself.

If you think about it, Asura could have actually worked well in a Hildibrand story (multiple faces of differing expressions: angry, sad and serene. Give them their own personality and own goals and you kinda have a three stooges situation... but in control of one body with six arms and three faces). If she were summoned earlier, we could have gotten someone who could potentially argue with herself and her battle mechanics reflecting that + changing depending on which face is currently in control (instead of being basic dungeon boss mechanics we've seen throughout EW. She doesn't do anything new or interesting).

Asura was so boring that I never want to do the fight again, lazy writing, lazy music, lazy fight design.

I couldn't tell what was going on for half the fight because the other three DPS were all summoners and I couldn't see anything.

Which does absolutely nothing for the gigantic flashbangs every time they cast a spell.

And yes, because this also comes up every time I complain about summoners, I know spell effects can be turned off, but it's only one job that causes problems.

I feel most Jobs are overly flashy now, so I just turn everything off that isn't me.

Anyway, you weren't really missing much with Asura. She's easier than the Magus Sisters.

Asura was just a gimmicky fight in FF4, really. Pretty much unbeatable unless you overlevel or realize the trick of casting Reflect on her. Whoop dee doo.
Not sure why anyone felt like she needed particularly grand representation. If anything what we have in this game is still a more interesting fight than what was in FF4.

It's more that as a Primal (or Trial in general), she has nothing unique/interesting going for her. She has three faces and six arms, but doesn't really do anything with them at all :U

I'm not fond of the Hildibrand quests but they were fine when we didn't have to interact with them. This expansion feels like whoever makes those quests got the power to force anyone who wanted a relic weapon to do them so now we all have to bathe in the stupidity.

There was a 3rd method that required knowing the game VERY well. You could manipulate her actions(causing her to skip healing herself) with proper timing and strategy(thus never needing to cast reflect).

i dont think she was meant to be anything more than a reference.

Whether she was or wasn’t a joke trial in FFIV should that change the fact that she shouldn’t be a joke in 14, I mean I haven’t played 4 and couldn’t care less about 4, what benefit do I get out of a joke trial that’s meant to be a cool Easter egg to the fact she was also a joke trial in 4

Tbh Asura feels out of place but not in a way that they screwed her up in any way, but rather that they really wanted to put her in the game in some way, and knew that Thavnair was the best location for it, but at the same time had no good spot for such a trial anywhere in MSQ, and MSQ is going to be moving far and away from Thavnair for a long while next expansion, so they threw her into Hildibrand storyline instead, just to have her be there rather than not be there at all. It doesn't contribute much to Hildi story, but it does feel like a very big situation of "if they didn't put her here, they wouldn't have anywhere to put her at all".

I was offended by how they did Anima just crammed him into the back of an ff4 themed dungeon. Ashura atleast got a trail and fits into the ff4 themed expansion being that she’s one of the strongest summons in ff4. Ffx being my favorite I was offered deeply.
