I think it'll mostly be tied to Legacy for alpha.. if they recruit for Alpha. Then beta will be a wider pool of players.
One of my ls members said they were having people apply for alpha (?) at Japan Expo. This might be false info though as I wasnt there. But I trust my ls mate
Alpha is by definition an internal staff only test, so it doesn't make sense that anyone would be in on alpha.
Incorrect. Players participated in the previous XIV Alpha like.. 6 months before it released. lol. People will be able to get into the alpha test.
ninjedit: Also, players have participated in alphas for other MMOs. Rift, maybe TERA, and definitely PSO2. So.. players will get into the alpha.
All current players will.
An alpha version is not yet feature-complete (with the features and bug fixes intended to be made available in the "final" release). A beta version is more or less feature complete (again, as far as what's intended for the release)Quote:

Thanks all for the info!!
I think (not sure lol) that in one of the E3 interviews Yoshi mentioned something about who will be doing beta/alpha testing...
I would think all Legacy folks will get to test alpha :)
There's no way it will simply be legacy players. I assume they'd want fresh players to provide plenty of input as well
there wont be an alpha the game is already ready for beta and just about ready for launch lol. alpha is the very first build just enough to make it work as something.
oldest accounts with the most payed time should get dibs on some percentage of the beta.

've currently got a standing invitation to the alpha testing starting in august, so I'll know pretty soon the difference the new engine and server tech make on the game.
Dunno if its true or not.
alpha testing is the staff only for 2.0 we get into the beta in sep and that opens for everyone. The Alpha test was lunched back in march i think i saw yoshi say they would alpha testing 2.0 out.
Don't worry when sep comes if you're still playing ffxiv you will get into the beta test.
Sorry to say but ur LS mate is taking the piss, My brother and all are over there atm and there as nothing said to him or his friends about recuiting for the beta.
Plus Yoshi already said the beta will be open to all.
wow, please do not expect us Legacy will get super good treatment into beta... . Please do not assume that since there is not a single announcement on it's tendency or eligible to participate in FFXIV 2.0 Beta.
Oh my god im seeing 1.0 launch anticipation all over again. Humans.... tsk tsk tsk.
Well...erm if they are taking the game down for a month to transfer it to 2.0...and letting us test/play the Beta while we wait...I would hope all the paying customers can try the beta...^_^...
I misread his post...I get ahead of myself sometimes. He actually said:
So I misunderstoodQuote:
Edit: Oh, and I forgetted to mention that the entry for the beta-test seems to be open. There were nice girls walking around the Square-Enix booth to let you enter you information on some kind of pad-thingy. When asking about current subscriber, they couldn't tell me anything and also the people at the cashier (they were selling stuff too) couldn“t tell me anything about it.
I'm a legacy! I deserve to be in beta for supporting the game since the bitter frustrating start!!
I'm only half kidding.
Anyhow, I'll be more than satisfied with people in Alpha/Beta leaking pics and vids if I don't get in.
No offense, but citation needed.
Even if there is no priority, I'm sure plenty of Legacy players will get in lol. I haven't read anything in interviews where he said "lol no Legacy players allowed." The most I saw him say was "We won't tie it directly to legacy, but more details will be announced later blah blah blah."
Basically being in Legacy doesn't automatically grant you with the possibility of being in alpha or beta it'll be completely random. While I can't find the quote in said interview just look at the Legacy page itself http://lodestone.finalfantasyxiv.com...gn.html#legacy
It says nothing about beta and clearly states what the 3 benefits of being a legacy member are:
1=Discount
2=Unique Chocobo
3=Opportunity to have name in credits
There is nothing else on that page that says "Automatic Entry into Beta" if there was then there would be no argument but the page clearly states what Legacy means and it doesn't mean automatic entry into Beta.
Gee that sucks.
Ah well, the 'free' shit makes up for it far as I care.Quote:
Hey, thanks for supporting and believing in our game but we're just going to draw names out of a hat and let random people get into the new world, that you paid for, first. Chao ya'll~ :apassiveagressivewinkingclosedsmileemoticon:
as with the others, [citation needed]
Also, many of us have been "beta testing" this game for a year and a half or more, nearly 2 years for the first alpha testers. To not include them in the beta and make them take a days/weeks/months/however long vacation from the game while they let a bunch of random whoevers in would be a slap in the face.
I imagine they'd wanna let everyone in just to stress-test the new servers and see if they are up to par. That alone could be the difference beteen a successful relaunch and a certain doom.
the burden is on you to prove your statements. I'm not going to bend over backwards to prove them.Quote:
Feel free to read the latest round of interviews from just before E3 to after.
SE cannot let 20-25k players in their beta ? Wow! That is sad.....
Or you could not make things up and back up your statement with a proper citation.
But even so, I do remember reading something about how they won't tie it DIRECTLY to Legacy.. but that means very little without some sort of confirmation.
And also, as a previous poster stated, there are those of us who have been playing since alpha and beta - as well as a bunch of new players who jumped on the boat to snag up Legacy status - Legacy players are FFXIV's primary customers right now, and we should get first dibs on the alpha/beta. Anything else is a shot in the foot.
Seconded.
I also recall this being what he said in one of the E3 interviews. I don't remember which one though.
*edit* Decided to dig. This is the what I've found."

they should have active forum members, people who played ffxiv alpha thru beta and has been an active player since launch............
I'm only saying that cause i fit all the categories ><
please pick me ; ;
Am I the only one who cares more about seeing what 2.0 entails than about playing the alpha/beta?
I mean, regardless, I'm going to try the 2.0 at launch....we get a free month after all >.>
I don't know or have ant information but something just bugged me that
"What if Japanese region only for beta?"

What I am getting from this is that all "Live" players active over a time period of some sort will have a chance at beta. Its possible to be a legacy member now and not have a active account so I can see why they choose not to link it to legacy members. This is just how I understood it, may be something different all together.Quote:
GE: Do you have any ideas yet on how will people get into beta?
Yoshida: We decided not to tie it directly to the legacy campaign, but we want to prioritize getting the current players that are playing now into beta.
I think Yoshi's idea is to have the current players roll out new beta characters while our current data is being ported to the 2.0 system.
