Did solution 9 reveal like a jump the shark moment yesterday?

The presentation last night went allright up to the moment when yoshi p presented solution 9...it just felt so awkward and out of place. I don't know. It just felt like a jumping the shark moment for me. The beastmaster reveal saved the presentation for me though, I'm excited for that job, even though it's a limited one!

How did you all feel about solution 9...? Was it exciting for you, did it feel odd and out of place?

New PSO2 town is looking great.

It did take my out of the moment when they showed it off.

Depending on what it is/how it's handled, it might be a shark jump imo. All depends on what the explanation is for this seemingly very advanced civilization, what it is doing in the New World and how it has interacted with the world.

Definitely felt out of place. I'm curious to see where it goes.

Yes, very much so. That being said, there are already so many odd, out of place things in this game that start to break the world if I think about them too hard.

I will also reserve a full judgement until I have more context than a 40 second youtube video. Maybe it will make sense later.

Here’s something to think about. In the real world, we have cities like Tokyo which aren’t far off from Solution Nine as well as small rural towns, tiny villages in places like mountains, jungles, etc. and everything in-between. Depending on the context of what Solution Nine ends up being, I think it could be fine.

This type of technological divide also isn’t new to Final Fantasy either. Esther from FF8 is one such example. The empire from FF6 is very different than the random medieval villages that sprawl the majority of other locations in that world. Compare Archades from FF12 to the nomad village, or Eruyt Village.

its the best looking area in the game so far, i am super excited, its as out of place as dragons or ascian gods who hate the world because they aren't the kings of it anymore and want everyone dead and below them.

i hate the idea that the game has to be limited in its technology and can't go out of its way, i also feel that way about anything, anything added can be added and make sense limiting what we can bring to FF14 will only limit that and i thought players hated the games limitations.

less ranty explaination anything is possible because its more fun that way, i dont want to say well we cant have this aesthetic or this theme because it will never fit in the game. i think we should either find creative solutions to make it fit or over look certain detail to not limit the game or us players.

Our dark fantasy epic dealing with a 1000 year long dragon war ended in a sci-fi research laboratory on some floating islands covered in robots and mutated creatures.

Our trip to the First ended in a gigantic city with skyscrapers at the bottom of the ocean.

Endwalker gave us the Moon, a completely separate thousands of years old research facility on floating islands via time travel this time, and an area formed by thoughts and emotions at the very edge of the universe.


Considering what we've had before, the idea that there's a cyberpunk city on the opposite side of the world isn't that farfetched. The Garleans had modern skyscrapers, cars, trains, highways, radio, etc. as well.

I wish people would post a link with threads like this. Mostly because I'm lazy and would rather they do it than making me have to look it up myself.

Feels very Allagan, but without the jarring and garish colors typical of places like Azys Lla. Not really out of place to me.

They said the story has two very distinct halves, and I am wondering if the whole succession bit is only the first half of the MSQ.

I thought it looked neat but my interest will plummet if it has anything to do with Ascians, Garleans, or Allagans.

Those have been played out, but I’ve been cautiously optimistic given that I don’t think they’ve been associated with any of the announced main or side content yet.

the "sudden drastic shift in narrative tone and spacial location" is a FF staple, even FF1 had us go to a modern-day space station at the end. i'm not opposed to it off principle, moreso just hoping the narrative in there is engaging enough to justify itself.

People have already identified the text used in Solution 9 as "proto-alphabet" which is seen in the Unsundered World, Pandaemonium, and the Moon.
The sigil on the Arcadion concept art is also very similar to Altima's sigil, although this one is more speculation (good speculation) than the hard evidence of the "proto-alphabet"

i will say there are many ascians only emet was allagan we can always get another ancient that was on a side or maybe no side and they used their power to make a civilization and not use it to do evil, i feel solution 9 is what could have happened with allagan if emet's plan wasn't to kill them off.

i will also say i feel its weird out of all the ancients that got sundered they never decided to settle down and make a new world/ civilization for themselves and all chose evil. so i think it would be cool to find out there was another faction that was ok with everything and decided to become part of the new world/worlds instead of choosing to burn it down.

People also pass things along without verification. I am still trying to track down where the text actually might be used because I have no memory of seeing text in any of the World Unsundered areas – which is not to say that it isn't clearly the alphabet just recently snuck into EE3 as hypothetically the one used in the ancient world, because it is, but even so that doesn't confirm the city is Ancient. They may have simply retained or revived use of the script somehow, and it's just a big red herring like "Master Matoya" in the Shadowbringers trailer.

Thus far the only place I have confirmed that the alphabet is used is in the background during Thaliak's arena-shift phase. It's mostly numbers and maths equations but there are a few strings of text mixed in.

Someone else mentioned that it is specifically in the Loporrits' "on air" sign for their radio show in the crafter questline.

Quite the opposite, this is the first time I felt intrigued since the original reveal.

I agree. I personally am excited to meet another Ascian. There is a few of them we have absolutely zero idea what happened to them (Altima, Halmarut, Deudalaphon, Pashtarot) and I think it is very lazy writing to let a loose end of that magnitude go. They can pull a Gaius and kill them off screen, but people have always been doubtful that the Ascians on his belt were actually perma killed in the first place, because it makes no sense that Gaius could kill a red masked Ascian. In my opinion, the only non-lazy way to address the 2-4 powerhouses wandering around is head on.

I would be thrilled to meet an Altima who screwed off to her corner of the world and made a city. I would love for one of them to be chill and just want to be left alone. I always thought Altima was a good contender for that since she is "The Advocate of the Arts". I've also seen some theories brought up about Deudalaphon (since he is "The Engineer"), but I don't see the connection between their sigils.

Your examples + the map for Elpis and the maps inside Pandae fights use proto-alphabet just like the maps in Norvrandt use Norvrandt Standard. And while EE3 which has always been an "in universe" encyclopedia I do find it extremely hard to believe they would show what they believed to be Ancient writing and then immediately use that writing in a new zone without a real purpose.

And you're right. It could be a people who stumbled upon Ancient script and used it. It could be Lopporits who fell off the moon for all we know. Whichever way it ends up being, it is proto-alphabet which means there is going to be Ancient connections which is what people are concerned about. It's very bizarre all around.

Those 3 groups are integral to how modern-day Etheirys is today. It wouldn't be realistic if they just vanished without a trace after 6.0. It will be cool to see what the ancients did in the New Word.

Maps, huh. No wonder it didn't stand out – I'm looking at it now and they're so small and fuzzy and always with an English translation label alongside, so there's no reason to normally scrutinise it, and even if you did it's 95% Eorzean anyway.

It was one of my favorite moments of the presentation actually. Like they set up Tural wonderfully with the lush jungles, illuminated forest and wild west saloons, and then suddenly we are in a Cyberpunk New York! I cannot wait to find out just what Solution 9 is and who runs it. Is it in the future/past? Under Tural or somewhere else? What culture created it, and are they still inhabiting it? Whilst I was looking forward to the adventure anyway, this has made me a little more excited to see what the MSQ will throw at us.

The opposite. Right before they showed it I felt like everything they had showed was just copy-pasted from Thavnair.

And I was expecting them to have a Moon-like reveal for a new weird area. If anything Solution 9 is more grounded and realistic than what I expected.

Opposite for me. Other than the glowing forest, everything else looked exactly the same as other zones we've already seen. Solution 9 looks intriguing and I look forward to learning more about.

For sure. It's super easy to overlook. I was confused myself when I heard this yesterday and had to check, but lo and behold the maps are indeed written in Proto-Alphabet and not Eorzean.

Pretty definitive that Sector 9 has Ancient connections, but what they are and to what extent is still to be seen.

I'm all for Seeing if we'll have to AGAIN "Party Like It's 2023" in the Vaguely "' '"Dimension Neptunia City.

Is Solution Nine located on Etheirys? They jumped the shark. No way that had been sitting on Etheirys without word spreading.

Is it located on one of the Reflections? Then no.

Emet did tell us that some of the civilizations on the remaining shards might surprise us. We've been to the First and the Thirteenth. We have yet to see the Fourth, Eighth, Ninth and Eleventh.

Considering the architecture is reminiscent of Allagan and Garlemald, it seems likely that it would be another civilization Emet had his fingers in.

Looks like the citizen section of advanced civilizations we have already seen, imo. For example I imagined a metropolis for /citizen/ area of Garlean could be dang near Zanarkand from FFX.

That said my first thought for this area was it was inside a program lol.

I think they had to introduce a mystery element because the premise of 7.0 alone is quite meh.

The idea of a tournament and scion's fighting is cool and all but that's not really enough to sell an expansion to a wide array of people imo.

TBH all I can really think of is that one meme. Sudden tone/aesthetic shift came free in our Final Fantasy. I want to be put in the computer and chew on any wires.

It's probably the "golden city".
I noticed its architecture is very similar to Amaurot, so it's most likely Emet-Selch's doing. Building empires used to be his job after all.

Yeah, to me it's an amalgam of Academia from FFXIII-2, Esthar from FFVIII and Zanarkand...

The 'inside a computer' vibe isn't helped by that GPU looking dungeon though. ;)

Haha, definitely! The GPU further adds to that, and I think would help people having issues with it be able to accept it's very advanced imagery if it was that. Naturally they couldn't tell us now without lore implications.

In Encyclopedia Eorzea Volume 1, on Page 92, there's a section about the tribes of Aura Xaela that mentions the Haragin tribe.

As the Xaela tribes hail from the Othardian Steppes, what an "eastern sea" means to Othard loops back around the planet to the New World, if we take a look at our own world. Based on the footage and artwork we've seen so far, grey monoliths checks out. So not only is this a real thing on Etheirys, it must have been here for long enough for legends to be made and passed down about it from an entirely separate civilization. Conjecture until proven otherwise, but it's compelling, I'd like to think.

Solution Nine is on Etheirys. It's also on the opposite side of the entire world, which had been completely uncontacted until Merlwyb knocked on their door 20 years ago. The Allagans didn't even go to the Western Continent based on what we know. Not only is it in a place unexplored by Eorzeans, it's in the middle of the desert there and we don't know how much people in Tural are aware of it. It could be a whole Wakanda situation for all we know.
