A Suggestion for FFXIV Housing and Company Workshop Problems

Hey fellow Eorzeans,

I've been giving a lot of thought to the housing situation in FFXIV, particularly how it affects solo players and newcomers. It's clear that there are problems with accessibility and fair distribution, and I'd like to propose a solution that could help alleviate some of these issues.

One of the main problems with the current housing system is that it can be dominated by rich players who purchase small plots with free companies solely to utilize features like submarines. This makes it incredibly difficult for solo players and newcomers to secure small houses. Furthermore, houses have become an investment for some players who use them to generate gil, and on some servers like Spriggan, we've even seen individuals owning entire wards with just one character. This level of control and monopolization shouldn't be allowed.

My suggestion is to move the Company Workshop into an instance-based housing system, much like the Island Sanctuary. By doing so, we can level the playing field for everyone, irrespective of whether they are part of a free company or not. In this instance-based housing system, players could enjoy the benefits of having their own housing without the need for a free company.

Here are some of the potential benefits of this change:

Accessibility: With instance-based housing, solo players and newcomers would have a fair chance to secure small houses. This would help alleviate the problem of wealthy individuals monopolizing small plots.

More Options: The instance-based system could offer increased item capacity, more garden slots, and other amenities to provide players with a richer housing experience.

Improved Experience: This change could lead to a more enjoyable and equitable housing system for all players.

I believe that this proposal would be a step in the right direction towards making housing in FFXIV more accessible and enjoyable for everyone. It would also promote a more inclusive and community-oriented environment in the game. I'd love to hear your thoughts and feedback on this idea. Do you think it's a viable solution, or do you have other suggestions to address the housing and company workshop problems in FFXIV? So what you are suggesting is to create a massive inflation by allowing every single person to have a massive gil income, which in turn will increase the price of literally everything.

No.

You want submarines, you create an FC.

It's not that hard.

If SE wanted housing to be available to everyone, they would create it, they had the opportunity with island, they refused to make it proper housing aside from letting people decorate it on the outside.

At some point people need to understand that housing is not meant for everyone, especially med/large houses.

Also a small edit, you are on Spriggan which is housing galore.

FYI

Spriggan has 1311 open plots right now according to the Paissa website, and that is for Spriggan alone.

I dont think you have any idea about how much gil submarines produce.

A good many of us have been campaigning for an instanced housing option to be added to the ward system for years, and I totally agree that it could have so many more features, because instanced spaces are a lot more flexible than permanently loaded wards, especially for those who have enjoyed having 90 outdoor item slots in IS! My stance has always been that we all have a sub to play this game, we should all be able to participate equally in its features, especially housing. Instanced can make that possible. And we’re already seeing them dip their toes in with IS and talking about interior “Housing Mirage.” It’s good to see at least someone on the dev team wants to move the housing system into the future!

As far as the submarines, as you can see, you’re already getting some push back there. Personally I do think they should be uncoupled from housing, maybe put alongside the grand companies or something. Have all the subs you want, so you don’t need to take up 8 houses for your sub empire. But then, what some probably fear is one of two things: one, that such a move might come with actual limits on how many subs could be obtained that wouldn’t be able to be circumvented by creating multiple shell FCs (insert tiny violin here…) and two, that everyone else would be able to have subs and thus have the same access to gil generation (again tiny violin playing a sad, sad song). Oh no, we wouldn’t want everyone to have the same opportunities, or be able to have what we have! *sigh*

But really, as they themselves will tell you, subs are a lot of work, and even if you make them available to everyone, not everyone is going to take advantage of it. It’s like gearing up and sending out your retainers on the long ventures, but on a much larger scale: how your ships are built affects their attributes and performance, voyages can take a long time, and unlocking the maps is pure RNG, as is getting the good loot drops. This is why any new items requiring sub mats usually take a week or two to show up on the mb. Seriously, my take is that if they open up subs to everyone, you’ll have people try it and then have a bunch of rank 3 or 4 subs sitting around after they get tired of it. The sub barons will still see the fruits of their effort and remain on top, nothing to worry about.

There are some routes that give you trinkets that can be vendored for thousands of gil a piece.

A single submarine house can net you 500k-1m per 22 hours with the right build.

Now let's take the idea that OP suggested.

Random Johnny loves the idea and makes one char per world, unlocks the "instanced submarine"

Johnny unlocked a 30m-60m per 22 hrs money machine.

So no, inflation would hit like crazy, the idea is not a good one.

It has 0 value as well because of the fact everyone has one, and that's what would become of instanced housing, an ignored feature except on extra high pop worlds (and even there it's mostly ignored)

It's almost like the more effort you put in, the better the result is, and that's how it should be.

It's not just "make a shell fc and enjoy the money lol"

It’s a form of instanced housing, as is the interior of a ward house. But an apartment is not an house. Apartments have less value not because everyone has one, but because of the small item count and lack of outdoor space. Most who want houses are already making full use of apartments and FC rooms; I belong to a large housing discord and there’s some amazing designs being done in those spaces! Imagine what they could do with an house, but a lot of them haven’t gotten lucky yet. Everyone should be able to have one of each form of housing, not just a lucky few.

Like I said, I know the effort that goes into them. And if others want to put in the same amount of work, they can get the same rewards. However, where we disagree is that “the work” should involve having to create shell FCs to get ACCESS to submarine content in the first place. Seriously, you run subs, if they open them up to everyone, how many do you think are going to put in that much effort? I don’t think you have much to worry about! lol most will probably find it to be too big a pain to be bothered with, and probably rather quickly. But those who do put in the effort? Let them have a chance! It’s yet another piece of content locked behind the scarcity of housing, and yes people should be entitled to equal access to all content in a game they pay for. Whether or not they actually succeed at it is a separate matter.

I dont understand why you are so toxic about it.

You talk about the fightclub build that will legit give you arround 400k depending on route per FC,
I absolutly think that it finally should be nerfed.
There are people who own 200 FC with fightclubs and sell those gils for RMT.
It 100% is a broken method to make gil.

Rather than open up submersibles for players, why not airships? It's kind of been abandoned all this time. Relatively few people do anything with FC airships, and because of it rare items tend to be overpriced on the marketboard.

I'm also a bit skeptical on some of the claims being presented here. No one can own an entire ward on just one *character*. Or even one account. The people who do this have multiple accounts they are paying for.

Lastly, as far as I know, housing isn't the commodity it used to be. Other than the overcrowded servers (i.e. Balmung), housing is still open on most servers and abundant on new servers. Can you explain why you think new players are unable to attain housing, now?

No it doesn't. Spriggan has 1300+ open plots. Your entire premise is wrong and therefore the suggestion is unnecessary.

And are those all plots open to private bidders? Or are they mostly FC only? As of this morning my server said it had 279 available, but only about 59 were available to private owners. With the amount of bidders each round, there still is quite the shortage on NA servers.

Now do I think OP’s idea will fix that? The instanced housing part could. Just removing subs from housing though isn’t going to solve the lack of housing supply though.

I am pretty sure that's enough.

Even if they were all fc-only plots (which they aren't), a reduction of submarine fcs wouldn't do anything to add personal plots. It would increase the number of fc plots which there are already too many of.

But logic has nothing to do with it because the real reason people like OP are mad about submarines is jealousy. Someone else is making Gil and as a result we need to "level the playing field for everyone" despite the fact that it's already possible for anyone to make alts and get their own submarines if they wanted to. :D

Basically there are specific builds that you equip your submarines with and then sent them out to specific points and they return items that you can sell to npcs.

With the builds you can basically get SS Efficient drop.

There are multiple routes and multiple builds that can do it, but they most times start at lvl 85.

Yes! Airships are so undervalued. Being able to use both would be nice :)

And Back in the days you were able to have as many houses as you want.

Don't worry about it, you just kicked the proverbial hornet's nest by suggesting making certain parts of the game more readily available and accessible to all players, which threatens the sense of superiority they get from having access to Special Things only the Super Cool Kids know about. Making it a you problem deflects from the fact that the only thing they care about in this discussion is themselves, lol.

But I agree, housing is an absolute mess in every respect and it's a shame features like subs and airships are restricted the way they are. Making them a more integral part of housing overall would be a lot more fun and potentially add a new and interesting facet to the system beyond simply decorating that everybody could join in.

I know it really pains you, but not everything is for everyone, I have difficulties following a lot of the mechanics in FFXIV because I just find it hard to follow with all the shiny effects all over the place, so I dont play ultimate, I dont ask the game devs to change it for me, I dont do it.

That is legit my first experience with it. I play the game since end of stormblood and because the devs always said put feedback to the forum, i just tought why not.

The difference here is, if you wanted to play Ultimate, you wouldn’t have to go through a lotto process to do it, you just log in and it’s there for you to try. Housing, and it’s amenities, are literally the only thing in the game where participation is gated by RNG.

Again we all pay a sub to play this game, why should some people get more for their money than others? Just because SE underestimated how popular personal housing would be and kept adding on to an inadequate system doesn’t mean it shouldn’t change. It also doesn’t imply that it was meant to be some sort of exclusive prestige system. More like they painted themselves into a corner and now there’s no easy way out of it, unless they step up and actually implement an instanced housing option.

And yet empyreum was added with the same amount of larges, mediums and smalls.

Island was the perfect opportunity for instanced housing, it did not happen aside from outside decorations.

You pay a sub to log in to the servers, that's really it, you are not owed a house, nor should it be guaranteed you get a house because you pay a subscription, multiowners pay multiple subscriptions so they get more than others, it's that simple, the more you are invested in the game and you work on it, the more you get, I dont understand what is so hard to understand about it.

Housing mirage is as far as they will go (if it actually does happen which I doubt).

This is, unfortunately, the way threads on these forums tend to go. By all means keep making suggestions - there is some evidence some part of the team dips their toes in here occasionally, despite the chaos - but just be mindful that the response can be... colourful, depending on the issue you're approaching. It takes some getting used to, admittedly.

Are we still glossing over the fact the fact that 1300 EMPTY houses on Spriggan make it, in fact, quite easy for solo players and newcomers to get a house? Or is that not relevant?

Prices would only come down faster on the sub exclusive loot, which they already do faster than most of those running the workshop farms like. That's why so many have switched to focusing solely on the Salvaged Accessories. The value of those isn't tied to the marketboard. They have a fixed Sell to Vendor value.

We can't predict what opening workshops to individual players would do since players react in different ways. If they only run the subs to get the sub exclusive loot and then ignore them until new loot is added, then it probably wouldn't change things on the marketboard much other than the sub exclusive loot would have almost zero value from day one. If instead they choose to switch to the Salvaged Accessory farming once they got the exclusives they wanted, inflation on items being sold on the market board would go crazy because all those players would be bringing in that extra 1.5 to 2 million gil a week. The more gil players earn, the more they're willing to pay to get what they want.

He also said that personal workshops most likely would not work the same as the current workshops if added. It was something they were considering, not something that had specific plans to do.

Then again, the same thing was said when they talked about personal houses after they introduced FC housing. If they took the path of least resistance, the workshop may end up the same after all.
