I wish Square would give us the option to start the new classes at level 1

I appreciate that most people would prefer to start at 80 (likely starting level) and certainly don't want that taken away but every now and then I like going back to level 1 and taking a class all the way to 90 (soon to be 100) sadly I just got my last DPS class to 90 (black mage) and it kinda sucks that unless I make a brand new character I can't really do that levelling journey, It was a nice little project which I did very casually over a 6 week period

So yeah that's it really

You could just queue up low level dungeons and get the experience that way.

Ok and if those classes reach 90 and you leveled them from 1, you will be out of classes again and will have to make a new character anyway, so what does this change exactly ?

You will have 19 battle jobs (-1 because SCH/SMN) to level at least 10 levels each, which is a total of 180 levels you need to gain, plus a total of 40 for the two new jobs, which brings the total amount of leveling to do at 220 levels.

In contrast, using purely ARR jobs in ARR (-1 for SCH/SMN), we only had to level 9 (for a total of 450 levels). So we have to do half as much leveling as we originally did in ARR to get all the jobs up to max, but it's still a lot and still a project to work on.

As the earlier poster said, you can still do low level dungeons or get them in leveling roulette and some people just make new character regularly to do that. Not even joking, I have met many people who make new characters for this reason.

Finding something to enjoy doing.

Yeah, don't think they'll be changing that, but everyone already agrees on the same thing; queue for low level dungeons to learn the job. It's what I did in particular with Sage and Reaper when it came out.

That is the most ridiculous logic ever, that's like saying why play a game because once you complete it you won't have anything to do??

It's not really about learning the job it's more about just having a casual goal to work at over a longer period of time especially when there is a content drought between patches

Because I won't do it, that's the whole point I don't want to start a brand new character (partly because I'm very attached to my current one, and secondly because I don't want to re-do all the MSQ's) If I had the option to level the new jobs from level 1 then that would scratch the itch a bit, I'm unsure why this is a difficult concept for you to grasp

I think it could be ok, if you (or someone for you) create around 300 themed weapons, then test these 300 with each race and each possible dye.

Omnilevelers with any significant time on their hands --unless said leveling activities is literallyall they like to do, and they somehow do not enjoy those very same activities without seeing <bar go up>-- are going to spend the majority of their time level-capped, same as everyone else, at which point the options remain exactly as is the case already.

Yes, there is a difference in total hours before takes effect, but you're still dealing with the same outcome. Eventually, you'll have to (A) do more than just leveling, (B) make a new character, or (C) just do those activities you enjoyed during leveling regardless of the actual exp gains because you enjoy or for whatever reason want to do those activities.



Now, for my part, I would love to have simply seen a level skip function added in some other way, so maybe it's DRK I start at 80 come Dawntrail and Corsair (or Gunner/Fencer) that I start at level 1. Sure, options are nice.

Buuuut, that desire sours as soon as one realizes what it would cost in development hours for that actually feel like more than a clunky gimmick, which I would not be satisfied with.

Of all things I could possibly see those development hours being used on, more choices of which job to level through the whole MSQ on... isn't even a top 10 (even when limiting those dev hours' results to just what those same likely staff would be working on).

After spending the last month and a half slowly leveling all the jobs I haven't touched to just 50/60, nope. No more. With how alt job leveling is in FFXIV you can't do the story again, you can't do side quests, you grind dungeons/roulettes. Now, if they let you replay the MSQ with xp but no cutscene skipping? I'd start at level 1 on a new job in a heartbeat.

I could see this being alright as long as it's optional.

On the other hand, I do wish they would come up with something to force people to actually learn how to play the jobs that start at a higher level. Running into some dude button mashing at 90 on GNB because the game makes no real effort to enforce learning is obnoxious, and being stuck in a dungeon with this person is even worse.

Whether they have the resources to do that (they almost certainly would if reinvesting the game's profits into the game) or not, there's still the more important question: is more 1-to-cap job options (especially if at the expense of how many jobs more constrained players can actually play at cap) via more quickly-outgrown banal early leveling weapons and more job quests to reconcile incongruities with the earlier level and the MSQ's point of introduction of those jobs' origins... really something we want to spend that development time on? Not midcore content, not side content, not more horizontal progression or what have you, but just... more weapons and (lore-conflicted) job quests?

It'd be a neat idea, but considering how this game has arguably one of the worst combat systems/class progression, I dont see this jelling well with people unless they manage to overhaul combat. I wish they did because I understand where OP is coming from. Its fun to level classes like in WoW where that journey is fun and meaningful. But in this game? Its just ugh.

Instead of being required to run (say) 200 dungeons to level up from scratch, why not just accept that it takes 20 dungeons to reach level cap and then keep running the additional 180 anyway just for fun? You do the same amount of activity and you have more choice over what you do, because there's no pressure to go for the "most efficient" thing over so you can pick to play what you actually feel like doing today. Or pick by collecting glamour or whatever as a secondary goal.

I too would prefer new jobs to start off at a lower level. Leveling is one of the great parts of an MMO -- watching my character grow, getting new gear, the empowerment of learning a new skill or spell. Even hearing that familiar "LEVEL UP" jingle is one of the genre's little joys. I don't think we necessarily have to start at level 1 though. The extremely limited skill set at that low a level is just not very interesting. I think starting at 50 or 60 might be a good place to give us a "new job starter kit" and go from there.

Rather than making it optional to start at a lower level, how about the job starts off lower by default but you can buy an xp boosting consumable? I don't know if it would cost gil, or tomestones, or whatever else. It shouldn't come at so high a price that it's a problem for anyone to buy them, but it shouldn't be a negligible cost either. Just enough so players can weigh their options, and decide if it's worth it for them to fast-track the new job or level normally at their leisure.

I don't want to see any more nonsense with base classes and job stones, but I am 100% with you on wanting more job story quests. I accept that we have "role quests" now instead of job quests, at least for existing jobs. There are just so many jobs now, and if they keep adding more with each expansion, something's gotta give. But I feel that new jobs don't get enough love. The Sage quests especially, were completely uninteresting to me. I honestly can't even remember what happened in them, or who any of the characters in that story were. And we'll never have anything more about it. That was literally the entire existence of Sage, narratively.

We don't need to have the same amount of quests throughout the leveling process as old jobs got, but if new jobs started at 50 or 60, maybe... a job quest every 5 levels or so? That's still plenty of time to establish some more "class fantasy" and lore.

Sadly it cannot be, The game has existed too long for it to change now.

SE had chosen the path of least work.
So there is no deep or intricate Role/Job/Class Quests for the newer Combat Roles.
There is less reason for them to go back and make Weapons for new combat classes in old expansions.(which I bet they love having that as another drop in the bucket of reasons why they don't want to go back and make New Relic/Ult/Trial/Raid Weapons for New Combat Jobs in old content. as much as I'd love New Zetas - this isnt a joke, Zeta is worth it. But not on alt characters-<says the full zeta>)
There is also even less they have to worry about with the jobs being entertaining at lower levels, as most will have most their kit at higher levels.(so intended or not, the lack/scarcity of abilities as lower roulettes gets worse.)

People Love Leveling, no ones got the right to deny or argue against anothers preferences in what they enjoy.(if they treat it as subjective. Since it's a For all game.)

Though I get how some may love playing with the new toys day 0, and only require to level 10 times.

Telling them to make their own content is utterbull by saying to purposefully queue in old content.
(unrelated kind of/adjacent. But Leveling in itself is part of the games enjoyment. if it was not, everything would be Capped.)
It's like many forget how people feel about the lack of content/increase in boredom as of late. and peoples view on some making alt characters.

Regardless, game has existed for way too long.
It exists how it is, and it won't change OP.
(Even though one can find many subjective and objectives. Like Side effects of increase in queues being more even spread, rather than top heavy as more expansions release. as just one)
[if it was a new MMO, probably wouldn't hurt if it all started at 0-1. If so, then boosts also would be pretty evenly valued to all jobs, regardless of how you view boosts.]

TLDR:
It's far too late for XIV to even consider that, even if it has its merits(which many don't want to even consider, for also good or bad reasons)

[But I would whole Heartedly Support it, if they also adjusted and added more to the game, outside of just increased Leveling. Optional is always there for sure. But it will always be a you have no choice regardless]

Whenever I wanna get the feel for a new job I just go into POTD. Not exactly the same but it gets the job done.

One of the reasons to create an alt is to enjoy the leveling experience again (if that is what you like). The game doesn't need to create a system to arbitrarily do that on your main account.

Why force people to start off at low level? Leveling is the same boring chore it always was. If you want to start out low, that's fine with me, but adding a cost for other players that just gets in the way would be a terrible step backwards.

Mk so a redo token type scenario. It's doable but since you the literal first I seen wanting this..won't happen. You could always play new game plus so you are gated to certain ilvls. Otherwise yeah...make an alt. I have a few and enjoy relevelling.

The issue I do see with you want is that for 1-15 you can't really do dungeons for exp. So you stuck with fates, leves and I believe guildhest at level 10. Not to mention the lack of any real skills. Pretty braindead that early on.

I love the OP's idea, even though they would never do it because so many people just want to be max level as fast as possible no matter what always.

That sounds like a good plan.

You can stay away with that idea lmao, that's the level these jobs start at, I aint paying to get a "level up", either via gil or mog station or even an item, it's fine the way it is, just make an alt.

Honestly not even needed to make an alt. All parts of the leveling experience sync them down anyway so if they really wanted to they could just run low level dungeons in order or run early PotD. Job quests are also replayable.

Palace of the dead allows you to go from level 1 again iirc

It does, but this isn't really the same idea here. You level very, very rapidly in Palace of the Dead, the OP is talking about level 1 outside of PotD. (Which more or less means they would need to level through fates or sidequests up to at least level 15 to run sastasha)

I actually do plan on making an alt after I finish Dawntrail. I know not all zones will be affected by the graphics overhaul but I still want to go through it again as a sort of refresh and see it through "new eyes".

Yeah, except for the part where I play on console :P I don't mind the wait too much. Gives me a chance to do whatever and provide input on here in the meantime.

How 'bout this, add an option to start a class at their default level again, prestige if you will, tie some frames, titles, and maybe even recolors of job af armor behind it. Nothing crazy, but it'd give people a reason to relevel and people like OP content they enjoy doing

Someone made a thread for something similar, namely "New Job+". Where we would be able to go through the leveling process again without sacrificing our current level, so we would be able to "level" that job on the side while still being able to do content at the level your job currently is.
