Is the supply crisis over?

I play on Sargatanas, which isn't the most populated server, but its not a backwater. I just checked Empyreum, where my house is, and there are six smalls that went unclaimed this cycle in either personal or mixed wards. Six houses that no one bought.

Okay, obviously this doesn't mean the system is perfect, but its a sign its getting better. A high pop server where anyone can just walk up and claim a small house is a good thing, and something we haven't seen for years.

Yeah, I don't care about Karens. I mean the people who are rightfully upset that they can't get any house at all.

Still seeing high bid counts each round (Crystal/Bryn), but at least the auto-demos seem to be generating just enough to keep the lotto going so far. There’s still not enough plots for the number of bidders, and there aren’t any seeing 0 bids just yet in mixed or personal wards. The FC wards are starting to fill in too, though there’s still more open plots there than anywhere else. There’s generally a handful of mediums up each round and the occasional large. Hard to tell overall if things will even out enough to make a substantial difference. I’m still seeing new people attuning to main city aetherytes every day, and eventually those people will want a house too, competing with everyone who’s lost every lotto round so far. I would say things seem a little better, but hardly enough to say “crisis over.” lol I think we’re hovering around 280 plots available here on Bryn, last I checked, but it’s results period so that’ll be in flux for another couple days, and a large chunk of that number is FC only plots.

I think we are in a lull period with players taking a break due to it being an abnormally great year for other games and a bit of a content drought. I just got a small in the Mist with no competition on Gilga and the couple other houses I have bid on were low competition. I definitely think Mediums and Larges still have a big supply problem though.

NA worlds with confirmed 0 bid personals last round:

Diabolos

Sargatanas

Exodus
Leviathan

Halicarnassus
Maduin
Marilith
Seraph

There were also several other NA worlds with plots that got only 1 or 2 bids. I used PaissaDB website with filters "Individual" and "Results". I feel that zero bid personal plots are a good metric to see if anyone who wants a personal house can get one. Now it seems there is at least one server in each data center where that demand has been met.

Smalls seem possible to get without too much trouble. Mediums/Large openings barely exist on my servers.

From what I can see, the only worlds struggling with housing are the ones listed as overcrowded. Otherwise yeah, the supply problem seems (at the moment) to be largely handled.

It will be interesting to see what the situation is like when Dawntrail launches between returning players and the new Xbox players.

For the most part, the crisis is still there for players that just joined and for players that didn't really bother to try to get a house when the pickings were good. While this doesn't apply to all servers, I can say that on my server, which is one of the more populous servers, as far as active players is concerned, we ended Lottery #2 after the new wards were added with some plots having 0 bids.

IMO, most players that don't have a house were going for Mediums and Larges instead of just going for a small first. That's their choice, but now they have to wait until the next time new wards are released.

I think it should be ok unless there is a huge influx of players once XBOX joins the game since you have the four other worlds of Dynamis that will open, so that's 36,000 player housing plots that's going to be available. Then you still have 7,200 plots from the currently locked wards of the existing Dynamis worlds to add to the mix too and this is not accounting for any new worlds on the other data centers from the EU, Oceania and Japan they may have planned for the XBOX players in those parts of the world.

Bingo.

There will always be a demand for mediums/larges, by design. But, at the very least, they're probably not in any hurry to be thinking about creating new housing wards or entire new districts.

I would on that also focus more on expanding the wards to contain more M and L wards. Or at least expand the S houses interiors.

Idealy i would have liked it if houses got more interior layouts, even if they dont meet the exterior shape. For example:
- S can choose between: current, 3 floors (with optionaly even a smaller area), extra large single floor.
- M can choose between: 2 extra large floors, 3 floors (with diffirent entry locations like bottom and mid)
- L can choose between 2 floors, 3 floors, 4 floors etc.

And with it, the ability to move the FC door to specific locations. And diffirent staircase orientations (which can also have the fc door placed in it). And yes, some layouts might have more interior space, but there can be reasons not to want that space (item limit can already be your limitation)

Small houses for a lot of players are fine. I can imagine plenty of people not even being close to the item limit. So some extra space they can use can help.

Yes to all of that! :) I love the small layout best, but I would love another floor (attic) above the ground floor. Or the option to add an FC like room.

Been trying for a large all expansion. No luck.

Not being able to get a large isn't a crisis. Larges will always be in short supply, same with mediums.

The concern is whether there are still players unable to get a house at all on their home world.

In an ideal world, I'd love to see mansions for anyone who can afford them. However, I'll take enough smalls for everyone as a first step.

In the last round of bidding (previous to the one that ended today) I bid on a medium. I was number 8 and the winning bid was number 13. But the winner never claimed it. So I bid again and this time I was number 10. The winning bid was number 8. The game is actively mocking me. This was on Malboro.

NA worlds with 0-bid personal plots last round:

Aether DC: Adamantoise, Cactuar, Gilgamesh, Midgardsormr, Sargatanas, Siren
Primal DC: Behemoth, Exodus, Famfrit, Hyperion, Lamia, Leviathan, Ultros
Crystal DC: Diabolos, Malboro
Dynamis DC: Halicarnassus, Maduin, Marilith, Seraph

These worlds I couldn't check because I don't have an NA character with access to Shirogane and Empyreum:

Aether DC: Faerie, Jenova
Primal DC: Excalibur
Crystal DC: Balmung, Brynhildr, Coeurl, Goblin, Mateus, Zalera

More than half of the older NA worlds now have housing for everyone who wants it.

Just from a quick scan of Crystal worlds, I’m seeing maybe 1 personal with no bids per residential area at most. The rest of the 0 bids showing on that one website are unavailable because they opened up after this round’s bidding had already started. (Although a lot of them don’t have data available because they haven’t been updated since results period started yesterday morning, but if you’re actually physically clicking placards, I’ll give you some benefit of the doubt.) Those with results that haven’t yet been claimed all seem to have at least 2 bidders, but most are around 5-10, give or take a few either way. Taking into account all that lost this round, I’d hardly say there’s enough for “everyone who wants it,” not to mention those that just started who haven’t yet unlocked housing and/or amassed the gil just yet.

Although another trend I am seeing that’s probably frustrating to bidders lately, is one or two properties each round, usually with about 5-10 bidders or more, where the winner doesn’t bother claiming them and they get pushed to the next round. After spending 9 months to get a small, I doubt it’s one person winning every time and not claiming, because who could be lucky enough to win that often in a row?! lol But who the heck is bidding and then not claiming? Just wasting everyone else’s time.

At any rate, maybe a little better than it was, but it’s a slow point, at least a month away from a major patch, so hardly good enough to say the shortage is over. There probably wouldn’t be as many plots to even bid on if so many people weren’t taking a break and then getting auto-demoed.

Two servers on Crystal, Diabolos (The Goblet, Ward 17, Plot 32) and Malboro (The Goblet, Ward 17, Plot 37), had 0-bid plots that were available to be bid on but no one wanted them. The other 6 servers I'm not sure about. I excluded unavailable plots in my count. Players on Diabolos and Malboro who wanted a house could have bought one, and as such they no longer lack access to personal housing.

Out of all NA servers Crystal is the data center with the worst housing situation at the moment. Aether had enough plots for everyone on 6 out of 8 servers, and on Primal it was 7 out 8 servers. Dynamis is still obviously 4 out of 4. In total NA has 19 different servers out of 28 where any player could have bought housing last cycle, if they wanted to.

How many of those are plots that became available after the bidding started? I already have a small, been trying to get a medium for months. A large is out of the question because they always have at least 100 bidders.

That is very likely FC's having members bid on multiple plots. If they happen to win more than one they claim their favorite and accept the loss of gil for the others.

Just from your example though… on Diablos, that’s one plot. Marlboro, one plot. Which was kind of my point. Any one player could have bid on either of those single plots. But there were more people bidding in that round than just one person.

We can speculate as to why that plot got passed up, and come up with lots of different reasons. Maybe they could only get on to bid a certain day and the plot they bid on had no other bids at the time and more jumped on later, maybe they just didn’t want Goblet, maybe there was a plot they liked better open for bidding, etc. But there’s still more active bidders than plots available.

Could have but didn't. There are now more houses than the number of players wanting their first house on those servers. I didn't bother to check any more plots because there is already one extra. Bids stacked on other plots are pickiness and relocation interest.

That's a pretty dismissive way of deciding there's enough housing for all. What if some players had bid early on a random plot because they wouldn't be online the last day of the entry period to bid and others who were engaging in pickiness then choose the same plots?

Those worlds could easily go back to having multiple bids on every available plot in the next dozen lotteries. One plot with no entries in a single lottery period really is not an indication of enough for all who want one.

If a world has multiple zero-entry houses for multiple consecutive lotteries, then it would stand to reason that that world has enough for all who are interested.

According to you multiple players wanted a house but just couldn't find the one with zero bids. Right. Sounds like you want to hold on to the idea that there is a housing crisis even when facts demonstrate the opposite: houses not being competed for and claimed on 19 different servers.

It's not over, when populations start to pick back up again we're going to have a bunch of players dumped on the servers and this conversation all over again.
Hopefully their "fix" this time isn't to add a new dead DC, and then immediately screw over everyone who moved there by adding wards to every other world.

I am hoping with the xbox players that SE kind of encourages them to create characters on the new DCs to grow population and mitigate some of those future problems. That being said, I imagine with DT next year we will once again run into a massive supply crisis as everyone comes back and new players try it out unless SE adds another new housing area and more wards since they are opposed to a permanent fix to the supply issues.

To be fair the new Xbox players should not be effecting early Dawntrail bidding as they would not be up to snuff.

Perhaps there should be a bidding restriction timer on boosted characters...

Thats actually a easier fix...

Simply make your world/DC nothing more then your home address. Allow you to wander to say Maduin and bid there if you wish.

Right now the imbalance is constant due to things like DC travel where its killing the PF on some DC's; while in other cases you have active players wanting to be able to do business in active servers (like retainer bells and such) so they go where people are...no one wants to pioneer Dynamis it seems. Places like Balmung however are a housing bloodbath.

Depends on when the Xbox beta starts and when the play joins. It only takes about 50 hours of play time to get through 2.0 and earn 2nd Lt. with your Grand Company if you have someone give you a little info about doing it and an experienced player can get it done even fast. A little quick arbitrage on the MB and you're set for being eligible and able to purchase a house.

Given 3 months, a new player can easily be ready to purchase a house and it's looking like there will be at least that much time between Xbox release and DT release.

I'm glad to hear some folks are trickling into Dynamis - but until we have a all DC pf I think the incentive to set up shop on Dynamis is still a ways off. I know on Materia for example there are entire empty mist wards which blew my mind. As I never found latency there a big issue (from NA) and if your not really intending to raid; latency really doesn't seem to matter that much.
