What is the normal speed running strategy for Doma Castle?

I have just finished a dungeon where the tank left. Which is fine.

I am normally a pretty decent healer. However, the tank insisted that the 'normal' strategy for Doma Castle is wall-to-wall pull through that little area with the bombs going off. You know, the one with some hefty pulls, and constant things to dodge on the floor (not to mention a LOT of corners).

I couldn't heal through it. At all. Normally I can manage, but not when a tank has about 40 mobs pounding on him at once. Not to mention he refused to slow down whenever he was at very, very low health. In fact, he insisted on running around the corners when this happened.

We failed a whopping 9 times. All the while, the tank refused to adapt to the group, despite insistence from everybody (people agreed it wasn't my fault), and said that this is the normal speed running strategy and EVERYBODY should be able to handle it with ease.

I insisted that it isn't a standard speed running strat (seriously, never seen somebody to this in about 40 times running Doma). Not to mention dying 9 times on one section is hardly 'quick'.

He eventually left. Said that we were all 'brain damaged noobs'. The next tank that replaced him (all tank classes to 90) agreed that what this previous tank did wasn't normal. Everything went smoothly. No more deaths.

So yeah. How do you normally run that section of Doma?

In the second wall to wall pull it is important to use stuns on the big colossus cause he has a aoe swipe that deals massive damage especially when dds stand in front of the boss.

Since you play whitemage it seems, what you can do if your tank has problems with mitigating himself is use your aoe hot heal, your hot zone, your normal regen hot and then use holy once with swiftcast. Keep the tank as your target and cast holy from time to time cause stunned enemies are basically mitigated damage. Holy is a very important spell for whitemage when it comes to making wall to wall pulls easier, easily the most overpowered spell for big mob groups in the game.

Much of it depends on your tank tho, if they don't know how to mitigate properly you can heal as much as you want it won't really matter.

That is how I do it, but it is more a dpa check rather then heal check. DPS has to be on point for that to work. I normally queue with friends and that is the norm for us.

This assumes your tank is not brain dead and knows how to do basic tank things.

Can depend on the tank and healer job but, overall, w2w at 70. The tank should be using all their mitigations to help. Also, as healer, are you standing near your tank and moving with them? Or are you hanging back?

I always stay with the tank. The issue was that there was no way to heal the tank through it all. He literally didn't pause once. Was even standing on the red stuff to get paralysed, which only added to the issues as at that point I am casting esuna and trying to heal him.

I mean, if they are deliberately standing in AoEs, then you kinda already know, right? Though, if its a choice between esuna and curing, I wouldn't worry about getting the paralysis off the tank. Out of curiosity, where you WHM?

Yes. I was playing on WHM. Well, maybe Astro at the time. I don't remember. Probably WHM.

Is it possible? Yes.

Did he understand how LoS works? No.

Fault lies with the tank. Vaas would like to have words with him about the definition of insanity.

The first big pull is rough but manageable.

The second big pull before the first boss is rough and I don't recommend it. Many parties have wiped to it over the years. There is this big, hard-hitting giant and the mob packs after that also hit hard, so when you get to the third pack, it can be a disaster. I usually at least take out the big enemy first then just pull the two packs. Maybe the stat squish, food growth or Duty Support changes have affected it, but still.

The mob packs between the first and second boss where you have magitek armors, dogs and soldiers attacking you while dodging giant cleaves is a big pull I never do. Every time I've ever done it, healers just couldn't handle it so I stopped doing it.

The big pull between second and third boss. Always do it. They hit hard, but your CDs can handle it, their casts take time so the healer has plenty of time to heal and most of them die really fast.

Although, I didn't really test the recent Stormblood dungeon changes properly except the ones I've got in roulettes so maybe they nerfed something.

Yeah. it is that big pull where you have to dodge the cannons, and have a ton of twists and turns. With all the red things that appear on the floor in front of the cannons that paralyse you if you stay in them. Lots and lots of mobs. I can handle every wall to wall pull in that dungeon. That one was well beyond my capabilities, though.

If you can't heal that pull you're not as good as you think lmao

Everyone in this thread trying to find excuses for you, the tank was right.

Learn to spot heal while sprinting. They shouldn't even drop to below half health if both of you are doing this correctly.

Anyways, the fact you even casted Esuna tells me everything I need to know.

1) Regen on tank.
2) Sprint before you aggro anything, right before the aggro point for the first mob (stay slightly behind the tank), you need 20s of sprint
3) Run in perfect straight lines and take the shortest path, you should be running in a diagonal not forward.
4) Regen on yourself and the DPS.
5) Solace tank at 50% HP.
6) Preplace asylum at the very end
7) swiftcast holy and start spamming holy
8) wait for tank to drop to 20% hp and benediction.
9) once holy stuns are out maintain Regen and spam cure 2.

10) forgot to mention: just eat the cannon hits to keep up with the tank, tank has aggro and you kept Regen on yourself so it's fine, that's the whole point of (4).

This isn't hard, I did this with a tank that literally only used Rampart for the entire pull before.

Can't spam holy if tank is constantly running, keeping mobs close to him. Holy is like a 3 second cast. You get some, but most will be gone way before holy fires off.

I think you underestimate how much damage the tank was taking. You can only spot heal so much, chum. If the tank is not stopping and going down in 2-3 hits from 10-20 mobs pounding on him at once (full to 0 in about 2 second) no healing is going to keep him up.

On extreme cases I will swiftcast Holy, Benediction, toss a regen, then holy spam. I've used that to great affect many a time. That's the VERY second they have stopped at the wall and it's DPS time.

If you're talking about that section in between 1st and 2nd boss that you can full pull, the normal way back in SB was to split it into 2 pulls. Now though, people usually expect you to pull the whole thing. It's only 10 mobs for the whole thing (1 drill bot, 2 dogs, 1 reaper, 6 garlean soldiers) so it's doable, it does get a bit spicy if the tank is undergeared and isn't using mitigation though.

Yes. It is that pull (I think). The issue wasn't so much the pull. I can heal through it. It is just that the tank refused to pause, and was constantly paralysed (by standing in the red stuff). As in, he deliberately went out of his way to run around corners and 'hide' from healing.

Don't get me wrong. I heal Mentor Roulette regularly now. When I get this dungeon, there are tanks who pull it all, and I do keep them alive. But I play SCH so I can't say about WHM.

I was just saying that all the healers I'd get in Stormblood couldn't handle it so I stopped.

Were they stopping behind each individual section to allow DPS to drop something quickly, before moving on? I can't find any videos on YouTube about it. I looked, and everybody seemed to be doing it in two pulls or, at the very least, pausing once every so often to get a DPS AOE in there or, as somebody said, a Holy.

1. I pre-shield them before they pull any mobs at all. This protects them from some initial autos while running.
2. I always have Excogitation (strongest heal) ready to use on the tank when they stop moving, because I know their health may dip a huge amount when they stop.
3. Then I apply all my stuff depending on what they need. Whispering Dawn (area regen), Fey Illumination (mitigation/buff fairie heal potency), Lustrate (heal) ready for when they need it. Maybe Sacred Soil but it's just mitigation until Shadowbringers, and tanks have that covered already so I prefer to use Lustrate unless they are bad at mitigation. Adlo if absolutely necessary, depends how good the tank is.
4. Delay some of these things if the tank is handling it themselves ie. warrior using their heal, invulns and so on.

So I don't really play White Mage and only ever played it in any expansion to level it, and in ARR I just played it to unlock Paladin. But if we were to compare things...

Benediction instead of Excogitation
Asylum instead of Whispering Dawn
Divine Benison instead of Fey Illumination
Tetragrammaton, Assize or Afflatus Solace instead of Lustrate

...and that's not even considering that you have

Holy
Regen
Medica II regen

Even not counting GCDs, WHM has a lot of advantages over my healer of choice. If their health dips due to lack of mitigation, have Divine Benison ready or use Holy and use your dozens of heals on them that I don't even have myself on a Scholar.

Sometimes you will get an undergeared tank that doesn't know what CDs are. And almost no tank will use level 90 food like I would for Vitality. That might make it harder, and sometimes that's just how it is. But you have a lot of kit there that looks better than the breadcrumbs Scholar has at that level.

You can recitation and Adloquium, then whispering dawn and let the fairy GCD heal as you Art of War the mobs from one wall to the other. That's what I think would happen but I'm not 100% on it since I've not done that dungeon in some time.

If there's paralysis, then it's definitely that pull. The tank would be standing in the conal AoE from the drill robot, and if so, they probably were standing in more than just that too. Mitigation and decent gear is all well and good, but if a tank is making no effort to dodge avoidable damage, they're going to go down pretty fast either way.

AH damn. Same tactic but a normal one to start off with everything. Once stopped depending on if I need Benediction level healing I would Emergency Tactics, Swiftcast Adlo, weave a lustrate, hardcast Aldo to give me some breathing room and if things are going solid I would barrier up and art of war. Maybe. Like I said...it's been ages since I've done this.

If his health got very low before he reached the end, he did the pull wrong.

By doing the full pull.

• pop sprint right before the first mob aggros you to get its full 20s duration in combat
• sprint down the hallway grabbing the dogs with ranged attacks
• dodge the cannon fire by sidestepping into a small safe space instead of stopping
• grab group 2 with an AoE and keep going
• sprint ends here, get ready to use a super potion to heal off some autos so your healer isn't tempted to stop and cast
• dodge through the 2nd cannon hall the same way
• grab group 3
• invuln to give the party time to position
• target the magitek armor that randomly AoEs the backliners and be ready to stun the cast so your DPS can stay on task
• layer multiple mits throughout the fight instead of using them one at a time, you won't need them for the boss

It's all about knowing the dungeon, controlling the situation, and stopping as little as possible before the end. The tank shouldn't be taking autos the whole way and his health shouldn't dip below 50% until after he stops.

Because we want excitement more than we care about dying in a videogame. It's an incredibly fun pull to do w2w -- one of the best in the game.

DON'T SPAM HOLY
If you time your holy casts just right, you can stun lock the entire pull for a good 8 seconds or so. Spamming will have them cast in between stuns and deal a bunch of damage that you can prevent completely.

I've never seen the First-to-second boss pull being done in a single go. Usually I see it being done in three or two parts. One little tip for that section in the future: You can walk through the cannons. You can skip some of the weird curving all over the place just by walking through the canons. That said... this is where the Tank failed: If the rest of the party is asking you to slow down for whatever reason, you have to be really thick in the head to just do the same failed strat 9 times in a row.

Tank is ""wrong"" for not adjusting after wiping that many times, but they're not exactly wrong when they said it's normal speed running strat. Without knowing the detail of both you and your tank action, I can't really say where it went wrong. W2W pull in Doma is very doable tbh. Especially if you play as WHM as you can stun lock mobs

Sounds like the tank wasn't using mit like they should have been. Wall to wall pulls aren't just on the healer. The tank also needs to use their CDs. And the dps need to be able to burn things down. IIRC there's also a mob in that group to stun, something else the tank should be looking out for if they want to pull it all. And like another poster said, don't wipe the party 9 times because you refuse to adjust to what they're capable of.

That pull is one of the more enjoyable pulls to do in the game. W2W pulls with potential to die from still are kinda of rare. This is what makes the dungeons fun.

With a group that can handle it, it is. But it's a lot of stress on others in the group if either the healer or dps can't keep up. Okay to try it once but if it goes pear-shaped then we should be prepared to make some adjustments.

I disagree, why give up not like we lose anything but time and if said time is an issue then they can leave. I see nothing wrong with trying something over and over again to overcome it. Doing a smaller pull is akin to adjusting the difficultly slider mid game and that is just not my style.
