Was it much different when we would spend tomestones on a bunch of different tokens instead?
- Singing Clusters
- Umbrite
- Archaic Enchanted Ink
Or running dungeons to earn a token (instead of expending tomestones)
- Bozja memories
- Atma book credit,etc
It is all the same when you think about it. If anything, we have MORE story than the ARR or HW relic quest.
You are... SO wrong with this statement.
Manderville weapons are made from some sweaty oiled men bath water. That's some A+ grade writing right here. While I don't want to criticize that approach, assuming that these quests have more story than the whole arc about creating and nourishing Anima or recreating weapons wielded by heroes of old is just wrong.Quote:

Personally I'm glad that the vast metaphysical reality that has been created by relic weapon quests has room to incorporate mystical man water into the system. It makes me smile and makes just as much sense as any of the previous quests, so for me that's a win!
So when's the step where we buy mythical Unobtainium that Rowena has somehow obtained in large enough quantities to put on a vendor for the most common tomestone in existence?
I don't know if it's the biggest feature update, but it's a little disappointing that we are here at a another tomestone grind.
Don't care, doesn't matter. Still the best MMO, still better than WoW. We have a 100% rating on OpenCritic. I've been playing for hours a day every day for 12 years and I still haven't ran out of content. I literally cried 20 times during the MSQ. Also, we get CUTSCENES in this patch. The story is amazing, it's literally the best work of fiction ever written. FFXIV is an RPG first and an MMO second. Everyone loves the story. If you don't, you're welcome to go back to WoW. Oh wait, what's that? Shadowlands? Fruit bowls? Bobby Kotick? The Cosby Suite? Yeah, didn't think so. FFXIV won, WoW lost. Shadowlands flopped and Dragonflight flopped harder. What else... reads from notecard This must be a troll. All opinions against FFXIV are trolls. Yoshida literally saved the company with ARR, you should watch that documentary on YouTube. flips notecard Also, FF16 just came out, why aren't you playing that? This is just a 0.05 patch. That means there's way less content than usual, so you should be playing other games. Still more content than Shadowlands though.
So true!
doesn't matter
the japanese love the 1500 tomes
the japanese love new SMN
you are not japanese
your opinion is worthless
Singing clusters have other options to them do they not? I seem to recall the two girls having repeatable quests on the daily/weekly to get them involving other content should you wish not to burn tomestones. I also find it odd you leave out Umbrites partner in crime Crystal Sand for the step which had a whole menu of alternate trade ins of varying items so you could spend the poetics on Umbrite instead. I will give you Archaic Enchanted Ink though, that to my knowledge has no other acquisition method. My point is I would be fine with this if I had an option to not use my tomestones that made me go do content I feel needs help with wait times like SB/SHB instances.
the only relic step that was no boring item grind was the "kill ifrit, garuda, titan" one. I dont mind 1500 tomes, I can do whatever I want to finish them and most side activities feel twice as rewarding now
Ah I see the trend of people who never played during ARR and HW and base their perception of those relics on how they are now and use that as an excuse for why the current tomestone step is fine is still alive and well
Considering the only content I can run for the tombstones required is the same crap as Level 90/Expert Roulette, I'd say that the method of acquiring past relics not being as monotonous was a huge plus to them over the Manderville Tombstone weapons.
I'd much rather get Mhach or an Ivalice Raid than CT in Alliance roulette but due to a lack of incentive to run those, most of the time, you're stuck in CT for the millionth time. The Relic grinds gave that incentive for the other raids to actually show up.
There was also the fact that BLU is actually fun and made some of the Bozja relic grind a cinch to do.
The problem isn't the Macguffin. It's the method of getting it that's the boring part.
literally what even—
"You know, in Ultimates, and Savage, and Criterion, and Extreme, and PvP, and Alliance Raids, and Normal Raids, and Story Trials, and Expert Dungeons, and Trust Dungeons... you're just targeting a boss and constantly activating cooldowns while keeping your GCD spinning until you receive loot."
"So, honestly, really, it's all the same when you think about it."
"And that's why I don't see any problem with all battle content except Expert Roulette being removed from endgame at 7.0."
"In fact, since there's now FOUR Dungeons at a time in 7.0 Expert Roulette, we now have MORE battle content than we did in ARR or HW."
"HW Relic Quests were easy because I backloaded all the work for a single trivial starter step by grinding constantly over the previous 2 years".
first step of anima was easy, I just turned in my 3 Zetas for 3 of them and the last one i ground out the atmas. :p
The ARR relic was far worse than the HW ones.
Atma's alone took some people longer than it took me to finish a whole relic due to RNG back then. I was lucky and got all mine within the first 48 hours. This was back when the patch dropped on Thursday night. I had all mine by Saturday evening.
Books were far more annoying also because some fates just had crappy spawn rates.
Also, Anima required 0 crafting. You could get it faster with crafting, but it wasn't required. You could also do gathering, which was my choice.
The Zeta required crafting, but not heavily.
Yes. And the rest of it wasn't nearly as grindy as the ARR relics because drop rates were 100%. Anima was the easiest relic before EW lol.
Cope, seethe, mald.
You know honestly. This is actually super funny. I still hate it and wish they'd stop and varied the objectives but the fact that these steps have been the LITERAL EXACT SAME EVERY SINGLE TIME.
Kudos to the dev team to have Thal's Balls to not deter from their stubborn vision of lack of variance. I'm sure this is the final, FINAL straw for a lot of people regarding FFXIV and to everyone who feels this way, I wish them well on their endeavors of finally quitting this game.
I disagree with this though others may have a different opinion depending on how they view the Hildibrand quests.
To me, Hildilbrand is its own separate content even if it's being used as a prerequisite for continuing the relic. After all, I've been doing it for several years (other than the ShB break), long before the EW relic series started. The story has nothing to do with the relic beyond Godbert showing up to say "don't forget there is more work to do on my family heirlooms".
If you take the Hildibrand quests out and just leave the actual relic quests, we're getting noticeably less story than ARR (even if it was annoying to follow) and slightly less than HW.
Right. The past relics were tied into their own quest lines with reasons for doing stuff to get things to build and upgrade it. This time around it's just like an addon to the newest set of quests for the best side story in FFXIV. You finish the available quests for the ongoing side story, then Godbert basically shows up and says "Let me squeeze this thing with my pecks and we'll use the juice to make the weapon better"
There was plenty of time to work on multiple animas as each step came out. You didn't have to have the entire thing done. You just had to be current on the step and then you could start the new step on each when it came out. I was working on like 3 or 4 myself as they released them.
