Can we NG+ Festival quests?

Can we please get the questlines (and post-quest optional cutscenes) from previous festivals as either NG+ or accessible through a festival NPC?

This would benefit both sprouts and veterans. I've played since ARR's launch, but I have definitely missed a few festivals over the years. Plus, the questlines being one and done, never to be seen again if you weren't there, seems a bit of a waste. Its one of the few instances of FOMO in this game and with the NG+ system, it really doesn't have to be.

I'm thinking perhaps use the NG+ to stick us in a state of "2019 Velentione's Day" or "2015 Starlight" or w/e. And we'd be able to do the questline, but nothing else, like how NG+ works now. And we'd also be able to see the post-quest stuff. Like instances where you pick an NPC to talk to and get a short scene with them.

I know there are a few questlines that required a special FATE or group event to be completed, but I'd think those quests could be altered to just give you the tokens the group event would result in as a quest item upon Quest Acceptance, and then you can then immediately turn that quest item in to complete?

I wouldn't expect the festival rewards to be available. It'd be cool, but getting actual inventory items(or gil) in NG+ mode seems to not be a thing that can happen for technical reasons. Also, I don't expect them to put things back in-game that they've decided to put in the cash shop b/c business.

I support this, this could allow for more complex story telling year to year. Or even help us if we forgot who the characters are in the first place. They could even make the new game plus story only available when the season is up to keep it special...

The only real problem would be seasonal fates... they all tend to take place at the same spots and would overlap, unless they somehow change fates so they don't appear unless you are at a certain point in a quest and only appear to those players and not globally, or instances. Not sure what would be better /simpler programming.

I agree the FATEs could be an issue, but the point of the FATEs is usually to achieve a certain amount of a token. I'd think they could either change the quest advancement so it doesn't need that step and can immediately be turned in once accepted. Or they can make it so you can talk to the npc or a vendor or something to get the required tokens and then you can turn in. Either way, add a note to the quest when you accept it, explaining how to complete.

I do want to see cutscenes from previous festivals I never got to attend, most right now is viewable on youtube (not sure if every single one is on there though).

yes please. i would love this. some of rhe quests are pretty nice. and all the interactions with the many npcs we know. absolutely want that.

This would be great if they would also fix the Unending Journey.

This is a good idea, sad tho any good ideas/recommendations will leave the front page and not get much traction. Wish there was a better way to get our ideas to the development team than the NA forums.

Regarding the forum issues: same. But still, bringing it up here gets at least some eyes. Makes it worth it I think.

They should jump at this. It would probably encourage people to buy more holiday items.

Agreed. You can always re-experience the other quests on a new character, but not the festival events. Their code must still exist though. So, it *should* be possible. Unless the devs are planning on recycling the seasonal event quest chains after the ten year mark or something, I don't see a downside on their end to offering them in NG+.

Even if we can't get in-game rewards after the fact, I would highly appreciate being able to redo many quests- especially the quest chains made for Lightning Returns and Final Fantasy XV. I really feel like everyone should have the opportunity, even if the rewards do not persist.

Well, in this case, you are talking about two different things. You're talking about reexperiencing for someone who has done it, and also experiencing it for the first time.

I tonally agree on adding it to NG+ if you've already done it, so you can replay the quests. I mean, that's basically the point, right? lol Its especially useful for if they ever have a follow up to an event, say, Rhapsody of Vanadiel (or w/e its called). Being able to replay the previous quest at-will would let me remember what happened. Cus I completed the event years ago at this point, but I only vaguely remember it ended on kind of a "Ok, so where's Iroha going now?" note.

If we're talking about people who haven't done it already, though, I don't think NG+ with no rewards would be the right move. Firstly, cus NG+ itself doesn't actually work like that, of course, since its meant for things you've already done. But even if we're actually talking about an at-will, out-of-season completion option (like talking a random npc to trigger the questline starting), I still don't think I'd want first time completion to be without rewards. Never getting Iroha's outfit or the Regalia? Bleh.

But if you add rewards without requiring the FATEs and such that everyone else had to do? Kinda "unfair", though most people might not care. (People would complain here, but I think they'd be outnumbered by people getting the rewards for the first time or on alts.)

Personally, as long as they actually cycle the old special events occasionally (which they've generally done), I'm cool with leaving the first experience of them staying as is. Even the first events from back in ARR/HW days have repeated at least once over the years. But once you've done them, their questlines should totally be able to be replayed in NG+.

If they cycled seasonal events, I'd be fine with having to experience them first, too. But they never repeat them, hence why I'm asking they be automatically added to NG+ once they're over, or having an NPC added to seasonal festivals that will let you trigger them. But I'd expect them to be without rewards due to some of the rewards already being on the mogstation. "Past quests with no rewards" would be the least disruptive to the current paradigm while still giving us what I'm asking for, thus its the most easily implemented option.

All this wouldn't be a problem in need of a solution if they hadn't designed seasonal events to be disposable in the first place. It's also why seasonal events tend to be fairly underwhelming in this game -- after all, why put a lot of work into it if it's only going to exist for a couple of weeks and then get deleted forever?

It would be nice if they restructured seasonal events with the mindset of having them actually return intact each year, but gradually adding a little bit more to them each time. Every year they could just get better and better, with more things to do. This is how most MMOs I've played seem to do recurring holidays. You have a festival with repeatable quests and minigames to do for fun -- not a short one-time story vignette with the sole purpose of rewarding a glamour item that is intended to disappear and then show up on the cash shop next year.

I'm sad to say, I don't think FFXIV holidays will ever improve, because they are all about creating future content for the cash shop. I don't think Square Enix will let them stray from that formula, nor do I get the sense that they want to anyhow. I guess if we could just extract out the quests themselves and replay them in New Game + mode that would be good, but we would still miss out on participating in any actual game content like FATEs or instanced minigames that pop up in certain years.

Well, I mean, the story vignettes are my favorite part of the seasonal quests. I don't want them to do away with them. I want to be able to revisit them, hence the NG+.

And story quests aren't mutually exclusive with repeatable content, thankfully. They have kept the same things each year for a bit now in both Halloween and Moonfire, for example. This is the third (fourth?) year the jumping tower is back, for example. And the glam mansion keeps being accessible, without there being any reason given in the quests.

Agree; the little 30 seconds of will-they-won’t they from the two pirate captains in this summers event is probably a complete mystery to people considering the last time that plot line saw the light of day was what…3 years ago valentiones?

No reason not to let people see/experience it. Just make an NPC do a “tell me how this festival went before” and get some options to echo-mind-read the cinematics.

Can you enjoy the Saint's Wake this year without having done previous quests? Sure.

But can you truly appreciate Papa Gruff's character development? No.

That runs through a lot more quests than just the occasional seasonal ones, even if they make it most overt there.

I'm all for letting people experience old event stories. There's a lot of fun side stories/events that new players will never experience and that's a shame.

yes pls, add them to ng+. i wanna know what happened back there. isnt it a shame for the people who worked on these quests to never let these quests be done again? PLEASE i love these quests where we see known characters again

and also what about the limsa/gridania/uldah msq for the first 15 lvl? cant they all be added to ng+ regardless your starting city?

If you want to see those start-of-game quests again – even for your own starting city – you're better off creating an alt and playing it directly. NG+ only begins a few quests in from the actual beginning.

For festival quests: Would you guys prefer a NG+ mode that could be accessed anytime, or an NPC at each festival that lets you replay iterations of festival for just the duration of the festival? ie, An NPC at All Saint's Wake that lets you replay any past Saint's Wake questlines, but goes away when All Saint's Wake ends.

I am pretty sure I'd prefer a NG+ that let's me activate it at any time, especially if it also turns on the festival decor for me (which could be nice for gpose fanatics, too, I suppose). I mean, I'd accept either, but NG+ would be preferable.


And for non-festival, special events--if they were included in this--I think NG+ (with a prompt quest, or something in the NG description to tell you where to start) would be the only viable way to go. Unless they add them as repeatables tied to an NPC, I guess? I know this kind of quest is much less likely to be added for those who've missed them, cus they can always return and the devs might want to keep the freedom that limiting those can give them. Hard to hype up the return of an event everyone can do for the first time, at any time. But, if you already did them and wanted to see them again, it might make sense to make them accessible?

An "any time" NG+ might not be able to include the seasonal decorations. Also we have previously seen them do a time-limited NG+ to replay the FFXV event when it was active, so I would expect them to go for that approach again rather than freely available.

However it is handled, it would be useful if it had a note somewhere about which patch was current when it originally released.
