For once I actually agree with something you said. I am a HUGE FF4 fan, was my first Final Fantasy game ever. I don't care that Zeromus was predictable. I was someone that wanted this so badly. But the way they made him appear wasn't at all remotely reminiscent of the actual hateful Zeromus. Zodiark's lingering Aether I don't mind, I think it's good they touched based on that. Throwing Dragon Lady into the crater after she became hopeful turning her into Zeromus though? That was tacky. Especially the part where you could tell the patch was over when they ordered the retreat. We'll just be back next patch when Yshotla figures out how to make the wards strong enough to hold against even Zodiark's Aether.
A gigantic model shrouded in dark aether hides a lot. To be fair, you have to remember: Zemus was the one filled with hatred and he turned into Zeromus when he died. The same issue belies Zeromus in both XIV and IV, with the exception that you threw an entire ELDER DRAGON into the bottom of the crater where Zeromus dwelled along with Zodiark's aether. We also don't know what the fuck is going to happen in regards to Zeromus, since this is an entirely new Voidsent that we can't beat yet - not unless we draw upon the Light of the First. The real question is how the heck are we going to get there? We can't just rip holes willy-nilly...even with Ysh'tola's theory.
You do.. realize... it is not the FFIV Zeromous but just using the same name? SE has done this plenty of times throughout FFXIV so this is hardly new and nothing worth getting so upset over.
What am I saying, this thread is just another troll thread and we all took the bait hook line and sinker - everyone move along, nothing more to see here.
Gotta love those spoilers.
It does seem like they are just burning through them. They are probably confident they have plenty more bosses to burn through from other FF games so that they aren't worried about using them as throwaway bosses.
It's obviously meant to be a filler, run-of-the-mill stuff for us to make everything seem normal for a while. Kill otherworldly bosses threatening the realm, usual stuff, until something happens that we'll find out about in July.
If things aren't normal for a while (for us), then surprises aren't that surprising anymore.
Pretty much as some have said, low quality threads, with simple answers ingrained into the msq..,
it's why I just don't even bother reading past the first pages of some threads anymore, since it's been cheap and trashy for the "fanboys/girls of old trolls" to play pretend.
It was practically handwaved by "The Knight in Black" by saying Zeromus wasn't complete/full strength/etc. which someone else will likely use to handwave the fact its just two hands and a face that was supposed to represent something akin to a bird or mouthless dragon, etc etc.
While we don't know what their actual plans or if they actually do feel like they got enough material to just casually throw around bosses for the next 10 years..,
I cannot say.
But it is justified for those who actually have a connection to the older FF games to feel as such.
but it's still to early to tell, as these set up patches have been so different compared to other patches..,<more so, since we didn't "need" closure patches for EW>
Or the fact people enjoyed Pandaemonium, or Myths more, story wise.
[Not like the usual Lore Minds/BigData of the community got much cooking atm relating to how the first works. Unless they start requiring almost all content to be completed. Which only makes sense if tataru's grand endeavors is an attempt by the devs to get as much people through the content before the next expac without explicitly stating it for reasons to keep story ideas hidden.]
Lol?
Just because they've butchered so many bosses doesn't mean it's suddenly a good thing?
Look at the atrocity that is FF14's Kefka.
There's like absolutely zero story to FF14's Zeromus beyond "omg Golbez created him". FF4's Zeromus actually at least had some backstory where Zemus wanted to colonize Earth and believes in racial superiority and was locked by the other Lunarians. FF14's Zeromus is basically Kefka levels of fanservice.
Not to mention how Golbez is butchered as well. Why did we need an HW Ardbert 2.0 exactly?
?_? Don't click in? The name doesn't even mean anything.
I kept thinking Zero was somehow related to Zeromus and that SE wanted to pull a "omg this poor innocent npc is here now" and then go "unless they were the evil one all along" but thats not where they took it.
At this point i just hope Zeromus isnt just gonna be burned in 6.5 to finish the golbez arc because 1 patch to explain, sum up and then defeat Zeromus is not enough imo ... and with the 3-4h msq SE delivers per patch theres no way they can do it justice in a single patch. At the same time im not sure Zeromus is cool enough to use for 7.0 msq. Yet another "darkness is evil" plotline? Crazy.
So we got Zeromus first form where he is invincible, I wonder if his looks are going to make sense unlike the older games once he gets the veil stripped with crystal light or w/e.
Hopefully we get a banger version of his theme, there's not enough good covers of it and most of them are like 10+ years old.
Oh yeah because his garbled jumble of a sprite in OG FFIV made so much sense. Besides theyre clearing covering up the whole model behind the veil of darkness so well just have to wait till 6.5 to see how he actually fares.
Actually....I do wonder and wish they bring up his remixed FFIV Easytype look, I always thought that version was very cool
The pitfalls of fan service.
They use the same name, those familiar with the original want the original. Those not familiar with the original just want people to shut up so they can enjoy the game without irrelevant side commentary from those who feel their desired fan service was done dirty.
he kinda reminded me of one of the protoss/zerg hybrids from starcraft 2

To be fair, you also forgot the soul/memory crystal that fell into the pit.
Zeromus in FFXIV is a combination of Azdaja's hope and wish to return home + Zodiark's lingering Aether and perhaps a bit of his Lingering Will and the voidsent that became + the actual Golbez's soul and memories trapped in that crystal.
The cutscene made it VERY CLEAR (a) that Golbez is actually his friend who just took on his name and armor, (b) that the actual Golbez is the soul/memories in that crystal, and (c) they made it SUPER clear that the crystal fell lose from Zero's grasp and into the pit, likely to merge with it.
Zeromus will be dealt with in 6.5 as we've been told outright that 6.X is an homage to FF4 and it appeared just as suddenly there as well.
There's no reason to expect Zeromus to be even remotely involved in 7.0 as we've been told the Void episode will end in 6.X.
Instead of cheesy fan service / recyclin old stuff, wish we had brand new foes. Would have been nice. Whole void arc after Barba got stale.
I do hate that FF4 is essentially a vehicle to help the catgirl reunite with her tiger bf on the first. Little Sun would cry if he knew the truth.
Maybe years of being a Transformers fan has gotten me used to "homage but as a completely separate character" (I mean, look at TFWiki's disambiguation page for Optimus Prime, you'll see what I mean), but it's not a big deal to me.
They probably didnt want to introduce anyone big in 6.X just so that theyre done within those patches, so they settled on making the 13th be a reflection of FFIV and its characters. Considering that FFXIV recycles almost everything from past FFs down right to their names and appearances, it seems very fitting.
Only people having an issue with the FFIV callbacks are those who have been somehow ignorant over the past 10 years of lore in this game only just now realizing that they have been doing this.
As a FFIV fan, Im totally fine with them doing it as theyve already done so before with numerous other FF callbacks in this games lore.
Its supposed to be a FF series themepark after all, even Hironoubu Sakaguchi praises it for being such and I think thats fine.
Also anyone who even remotely says FF4 handles the archfiends better is outright lying...they had barely any screen time and FF14 has done way more with them even with still limited screen time. Its too soon to even comment on what they do with Zeromus but as usual troll guy has to moan or bait something. So I will see whatever they do in 6.5 because even the Golbez change was a surprise with it not actually being him. Making use of the shadow dragon as a sort of sacrifice as well was a better touch because in FF4 Zeromus is far less conceived, just really appears 'Oh no the body of Zemus has died now his hatred just manifests as this more powerful form' So until then I can't make judgement on whats transpired, like his design so far though.
I remember making this point back on a thread during 6.2 about the use of the Fiends. Yeah people forget that theyre barely characters in OG FFIV. Literally the first 3 of the fiends show up and die at their first introduction. Its actually comical how underplayed they were in FFIV. True, theyre also underplayed somewhat in FFXIV as well but at least they get some more nuance, background and screentime compared to the original. And thats pretty much all they needed to be imo
I wonder if there were similar reactions to the Warring Triad back in Heavensward. Despite their original versions being so underplayed that they didn't even have names in-game, just the Fiend/Demon/Goddess titles.
I don't know about here on the forums, but I loved those fights in Heavensward. Seeing the Gods that created magic in HD 3-D with high details was amazing. Their lore has primals was also adequate and interesting to me. Also Elidibus said they were world ending threats through Unukulhai. Though I do still WTF at Sephirot's powers being altered to be earth/tree themed when he was the ice one. "You'd best be frozen."
And that said, I've loved these FFXIV renditions of the fiends, though Milon's seemed a tad weak to me. He was a jacked giant zombie in the OG that inspired fear in me as a kid. XIV's was more goblin canker sore gremlin.
Everyone I played with back in HW loved the Triad too, though I know for a fact not a lot of them were VI fans anyway, though some were.
As far as XIV Zeromus goes, there's nothing to be disappointed by yet imo. Like actual Zeromus, his true form hasn't been revealed, but they did call attention to detail in that he's likely going to be undone by a crystal. (I imagine Golbez's actual soul will manifest and hold him back at just the right moment).
I'm actually hoping for some sort of mash up between his three different appearances over the years. Minus the silly sword he has in the Easy Type variant.
I want the crab claw from 12, the eldritch horror from IV, and the tail from easy type all mashed into one. Hell, they could lift Barubary's appearance from Breath of Fire 2, and I'd be on board.
My issue with the entire post 6.0 msq is that it feels remarkably lazy to make an entire games plotline the msq rather than be a trial sidequest series or something.
It really smacks of "we dk where to go with the story pre-7.0 so uuuuh" its just very obvious.
Im totally expecting the real Golbez who died to be a shard of Azem OH WOOOOAH which also sucks. At least Ardbert was an original character for this setting even he was generic login create your character middy.
The upside, I hope, is maybe Zeromus EG will be a phase two for the extreme fight. Thatd be cool ig. I was so disappointed with golbez weapon designs I hope zeromus weapons are better (tho considering they'll be ilv655 even normie players will not be using them anyway when you can augment tome weapons or get your relic to ilv665 in 6.55 :/)
maybe because FFIV was outdated old old GFX and that you cannot live in the past.... like it as it is.... or don't
Always complainst from people not appreciating what they got.
