Title....Im completely done being in ln-denial
Skiros, who is definitely not me, is such a visionary. Ahead of his time (ignore that it's only two months ago)

See, here's the problem. FFXI has been in maintenance mode for years, but it still gets meaningful updates.
Maintenance Mode isnt for another few weeks when 6.4 drops.
Jumped the Shark there mate.
I dunno, I think it'll probably continue for at least a couple more years. FFXI remains lucrative for the moment, and its remaining playerbase is quite dedicated. They're also rather clever when it comes to finding unique ways to kill stuff or just break the game in general, something developers tend to appreciate when it comes to letting new people get hands on experience.
I mean, the game IS kind of boring and shitty. But there's just so much to do below level 80 you guys!
Talk to a NPC - > wall of boring, non voiced text that could be resumed in 1 sentence -> TP to a location -> Talk to another NPC - > TP to another location - > Kill 3 mobs that hits you for 0 or right click on a shiny surface that comes from a 2002 game. -> Talk back to the previous NPC(MSQ) -> Watch 10 minutes of non-voiced cutscene -> Repeat.
And don't let me start with craft or gathering jobs.
You have no idea what maintenance mode means. But I’m sure this post will go on for pages as it supports this forums favorite activity - complaining.
You are probably wrong unless you are over 100 years old which would still make you wrong as mmos haven’t been a thing that long. Your being wrong but simply digging your heels into ignorance doesn’t make you right.
Anyway, since I’m not into your pointless melodrama and desire to argue, I won’t be responding further. I’ll let someone else give you the forum attention you so clearly need.
Ps- you don’t seem to know the word “officially” either.
The dialogue is part of the game though. You just basically said as much.
Also, if you want to fight things without care for the reason, which is what the dialogue provides, there are literally mobs all over the map. You can attack them and gain exp for it at any time. Also leves provide plenty of combat focused questing. FATEs. PvP. Nothing keeps you from fighting stuff.

As long as you are at the old folks home and not in a van Im down
Hasn't Forespoken kind of...totally crashed and burned, though?
I feel like this guy is trying to get me to buy <insert latest digital currency that's "about to go big"> or something... <_<
.
EDIT: This is terrifyingly accurate.
.
EDIT2: Wait what?
I wouldn't mind getting into that game if it was still group focused (since it has the old school MMO elements for it) and if the Play Online system...uh...didn't exist. And I hated the "Go get Trusts, level up, then come and talk to us again" mentality of some of the playerbase (not always harsh, but it seemed the general consensus was "go level yourself solo with your Trusts then play 'the real game' once you hit level cap"), which kind of put me off from doing it since I like games like that for the multiplayer aspect. Apparently it's why people love private servers of the game...
Make a new launcher and have a bundled $20-$25 sub for FF11 + FF14 and I'd be all over that, though.
Having criticism of dev decisions is one thing, but to say the game is "officially in maintenance mode" is silly. Just because you don't like what content is added in patches doesn't mean it's not added. Do I feel like a 4 month update cycle is way to long? Yes, of course. Even if it's only "two weeks" longer than a patch cycle in ShB, it still feels unbearably long. But it still gets updates. It still gets content added.
But since OP has already pulled the "I've been playing MMOs much longer than you, I should know" card, I already know it's going to be dismissed.
Let's not be hyperbolic and label what's happening as something it isn't. The games not in maintenance mode, you just don't like the content added. That's fine. No need to make ish up to justify how you feel.
Yeah it's in maintenance mode.

They made it official?
This is totally unacceptable. That's it. I've had it enough
Here's my announcement of me quitting FFXIV for the 33th times. I will stop logging in for 1 day just to let them know they just made one of their customer most loyal unsub and resub
New dungeon gear will be another recolor. This time deepshadow gear with ktisis weapons.
Lol? No it isn't?
The amount of combat, talking and running involved it's pretty on par with other games. Hell, in most of them you can skip fighting to a degree (and at all in some cases!) if you're playing a stealth class. But no, it's only ff14 that is bad, yeah.
How many mental backflips that take you?

It really isn't on par with other games. You need to go play those other games and stop lying. MSQ is known for how very little combat there is, and how much text reading, cutscenes, and back and forth there is. It's common in each expansion where you'll at times go hours without a single encounter or duty, even speeding through MSQ.
Like sure, over the course of all expansions - There's some good Trials and end-game.. But no, the MSQ and casual gameplay isn't really combat focused unless you're grinding on purpose.
There's really no argument - If you want to sit in denial to impress the sprouts, that's on you.
Tagging us 2 years from now doesn't make you correct about an "official maintenance mode" today. Look up official. Look up maintenance mode. LOL!
Hint: You'll probably still be wrong 2 years from now.
I'm doing you a kindness replying again so you don't have to wait with anticipation for 2 years to tag us.
Adding "Facts" to the terms I recommend you look up.
I agree. But to some this is a good thing. As a huge fan of games like the tell tale series, an RPGMMO is right down my alley. The MSQ of this game felt like an interactive story with occasional multiplayer more than it felt like a "game." It's part of the core of what makes this game successful for me and others like me. "How little combat" there is, as you put it, is a feature not a bug. But I respect that not everyone wants this. I believe those folks would be better served by an MMORPG that caters more to their playstyle. Less story, more combat, more raids more pvp, hmm I can think of many.
Other mmo's are games that you play. FFXIV is unapologetically a world to live in, and Im here for it.
I think that's fine that people just enjoy the MSQ and lore. Unfortunately I think some people (myself included) are getting frustrated that the mid-tier players are getting pushed out, in favor of pure casual MSQ or high-end. There doesn't feel like there's really a middle ground right now. Hoping it's just an Endwalker issue, but class homogenization over the years has made basic dungeons pretty bland to me now.
XIV has evolved in an extremely frustrating way to me personally.
I wouldn't call it maintenance mode though, maybe maintenance prep because of the old expac bot updates. lol
