Looking at other Regions playing XIV

EU and JP may complain about a lack of content, but they are playing what they have and making the most out of it, teaching people old content, clearing people through ultimates who wanna learn, etc.

I've come to realize NA is the only region for XIV thats struggling with playing this game, NA would rather crowd together in discords over populating the worlds, doing content, and actually working together to make this feel like a normal MMO. And thats kinda sad.

I used to think FF was just in a poor state, and thats not denying all of its flaws. But NA just refuses to be normal.

As an NA player that tries to catch up on old content this honestly is actually making me consider a paid transfer.

I'm genuinely not trying to attack the people on NA servers or put all of the game's faults on them, but I have been insulted by other NA players more often than not for actually trying to catch up on older content and play the game.

I'm sure this will lead to a very pleasant and positive conversation and not just become a giant hate thread for NA.

I know plenty of people that do take criticism normally and yes, you're not wrong that we have *some* people that live in a bubble. However, I don't think it's necessarily fair to just slam NA and associate the bad apples with every single member of NA when every region has issues in different forms. I've personally been insulted for being American more times than I can count by members of EU, JP and AUS when I was visiting other regions to see what they were like and on this forum but I don't associate those instances with the entire region nor make threads about them trying to provoke hate. I just recognize that there are people who will be vocal/insulting regardless of where you go and try to give new people I meet the benefit of the doubt unless proven otherwise. I'm not going to get along with everyone's ideals and not everyone is going to get along with mine and that's fine. I just gravitate towards where it is good for me and let those who I don't agree with live their lives as well.

ANd this is not a matter of insulting people. This is a matter of people not playing the game, not learning the game, not getting better at the game. THe block button is right there if you get insulted and so is the report button. But can I have one day in NA where I'm not dead carrying a run on any Role because I have an ounce of competence and can think for longer then 5 min?

Can you provide a recent example/the origin of this thread? I'm curious what actually happened to provoke this.

But I will say using the words "But NA just refuses to be normal" comes off like a way to start a hate thread to me. It could have been worded differently such as "What makes NA play so differently compared to other regions?". That's just my opinion and if you don't agree then that's fine. Not gonna ruin my day.

Years of playing NA and the massive decline since the beginning of Shadowbringers. I've made several threads before talking about the state of XIV. The game has flaws a lot of them. But in other regions said flaws don't keep people from playing the game, doing content, helping others. In NA you can barely do content without someone refusing to do their job, refusing to participate, now knowing their role, and its just handwaved a lot. I may have PF, which is fun, and it's nice, but I should be able to queue with randoms and just "do" content.

Is this me saying new people aren't welcome? No. Am I saying people don't forget or can't be returners, etc, etc. No. What I am saying is that in any other MMO NA people do the things I see EU and JP doing, normally, so why is XIV NA the odd one out compared to two other regions playing the same game.

As for NA, lowest clear rates, inability to say much without it turning to throwing mud. I get runs regularly where if I ask my co healer to heal I can shit for it over them just playing the game. And this isn;t saying the same can't happen elsewhere, but its been p normal to just work together and make the run fast elsewhere.

So just a combination of things all adding up to this.

Edit: And no I think refuses to be normal is the best way to word it, as no other MMO or Region within this MMO has these specific problems.

I play on EU Light - Every content that isnt part of MSQ or recent high end content is dead. Completly dead. Wanna do the Ivalice Raids to unlock Bozja? Dead, 1hour+ queuetimes during prime time. Deep dungeons that arent the 10 floor spammed to level? Dead. Even the new Deep Dungeon is already dead. Wanna do anything thats not part of MSQ you have to schedule your playtime around some obscure discord servers you can only find through digging old reddit threads.

That's fair and it is a thing I've seen brought up multiple times elsewhere in terms of how we run our DF/PF. Not entirely sure the reason it started (I've only played since 5.2) but all I can say from my own knowledge is it's just how things are done here. If anyone else can provide a more specific reason/knows when it started or why then I'd be curious to know why too.

As far as the others, I believe you that you've had a lot of bad experiences with people here but I also can say the opposite. It's extremely rare that I run into a party that derails into chaos or turns into a situation that needs someone kicked or removed. The usual I see is someone leaving a PF party after a few pulls. That's not to say I've never had people act like children, just they are situations I can count on one hand compared to the others that have run peacefully.

Perhaps (and I truly don't mean this in a negative fashion so I apologize in advance if it comes off that way) if the environment of NA isn't to your liking, maybe trying your luck in another region that more suits your own ideals would be a positive and increase your own happiness from the game. Ultimately no one can change anyone else or force anyone to do anything, you have to just worry about yourself and doing what is best for you and your experience. If NA doesn't meet your expectations then that's okay, just is it personally worth continuing to deal with yourself?

Oh is it a similar situation over there? Interesting. I know for Bozja/Eureka discord servers are used (in particular for BA & DRS just because of how much coordination is needed) but can still manage to pop Ivalice with a bit of a wait. I think the longest I had was 30-45m?

Half of NA is made up of EU players. I think it's unfair to say NA bad but EU good when we have a mix of EU and even Oceania players within the NA community. For example, a large portion of the high end raid community on NA actually doesn't live within America at all. The role play areas also attract a lot of other regions over here to play. NA is a pretty hybrid mix all around. To say we aren't normal would extend to the other regions as well.

I frankly think NA should jus be better about playing the game. The game should fulcilitate people learning better. If EU and Jp can just learn based on the vague info given great, but NA should just be better at this point. I run multiple characters, I play multiple regions and I'm fine. But to deny the reality of how this isn't healthy for this game period is also not a good look for a business. live and let live is nice when it not damamging a game already filled with flaws that make it less appealing, but that's not the case with XIV.

And I know not everyone in NA will agree with this, but I've said it before and its not wrong, this isn't how a game like this will survive another 10 years.

Try a different DC, as thats Yoshi Ps literal answer to that problem, low pop servers go play on higher pop servers. Different conversation entirely, I'm not talking about how dead content is, I'm talking about people not wanting to play the game in runs, refusing to play their roles, working together in runs, and helping newer players learn.

I rarely agree with you but this is one that I will with. If the content itself isn't improved (i.e. the massive downgrade from ShB content to what we've been getting from EW) then I could see the game bleed users. I played this game religiously up until the most recent .5 patch and seeing the 1-2 hour content we were given was the first time I honestly considered quitting the game.

I don't think the NA playstyle is going to cause the company to lose money more than the content itself not being amazing would. Those who operate on NA are used to it and still continue to play, the content is what is actually making people take breaks or fully leave (as we can see with several high profile Twitch streamers abandoning the game for others because lack of things to do/stream and the overall lowering of PF ads for content even in more populated DC & regions).

I'm not sure when the shift happened. I know it happened gradually though. Would it be nice if it shifted a little bit back towards how it was? Sure. I think part of the problem is too many good people got burnt out. Or felt that trying to care, teach, or expect more from their fellow players than just using one skill/spell over and over wasn't worth their time. Let alone worth the slow erosion of their sanity. At some point the mind set of doing the "bare minimum" and expecting everyone else to also do that gained the label of being toxic. That the mind set of why should I bother to try when I can just get carried by 3, 7, 23 or fewer people over time became the norm. After all it is just a game it shouldn't be a job. Why should I need or have to put in any effort to play my role or my job after coming home from work?

It's a fine line to try and stay on as on one side you have what we have now. On the other it becomes a challenge to get anything done if you've somehow managed to step on one too many toes. Do I wish the community would move a little back towards at least the feeling of the majority are actually trying and would do better if there were ways in game to figure out how to do better? Heck yeah. I also know that the game has strayed away and probably won't get anywhere close to going back to making things have any kind of bite. People say that there are no dps checks in most of the game. Yet I don't get the impression from most that they've had many runs of anything that feels like someone is trying to shred you like cheese with a slab of concrete as the grater. Or they would know there are a lot of fights where the game mercy kills you. If not has a soft enrage that you only see cause the fight has been going on as long as your average dungeon run.

Your first mistake was thinking the downgrade happened in Shb. When in reality, the game was rigged from the start in 2.0

The game's overall design is so painfully average that every expansion starting from Heavensward slowly peels off the layers mediocrity when many other MMOs do many of this game's aspects such as combat, quests, dungeons, raids, housing, exploration much better.

The only reason it wades by is because FFXIV tries to do everything other MMOs do just plain "fine". Its only saving grace is the story being the best presented out of all other MMOs but MMOs are much more than just story

If NA is struggling with the game then it is more a cultural problem than FFXIV as itself, the game is really not in a poor state... usually people play the game in JP and EU.. learn from it then move on from there instead of yelling at each other as in why can't you do it better and my method is best... no mine... and then after 1 hour not even touched the boss in whatever EX trial or whatever else content because there is 4 people discussing wildly which strategy should be used instead of just picking one and getting on with, and if not work try the next.

Complaining about lack of content is EVERY SINGLE MMO's biggest problem even WoW, and it can be solved with if we all pay like 50-75 dollars per month in subscription to have more paid staff for neverending content and you will still eventually hit the wall.

What content are you referring to? I queue with randoms every day on Aether for roulettes and I don't see anyone refusing to do their role or refusing to participate. Most runs are quick and simple.

NA does have lower clear rates for things, but that's because we don't have a culture where we feel we have to do content just because the developers put it out there. They gave us the choice to do it or not and we participate in the things we're interested in.

I've had the same experience on Primal. If I notice any deviation, it's usually among sprouts and new tanks/healers in lower level content who are just learning -- and even then, it's rare that it's a persistent issue.

Granted, the hardest content I ever run are Extremes lol. Touching on your second point, I'm not personally interested in running high-end content, so I simply... don't.

Honestly, I care less about the quality of players and just wish more people would bother to do content on NA. I spent over 5 hours queued up for Euphrosyne yesterday evening to get my weekly clear. Even interest in current content seems to be dwindling. You can't play a multiplayer game alone.

And I know someone is going to lecture me on how it's my server(I'm not queueing for it on Dyna), or how it's the time(prime time NA) or the day of the week(okay maybe) or maybe it's your role(dps so probably not). To me it's unacceptable though. Regardless of all these factors, a multiplayer game as big as this should probably have people on at all times of the day queueing for different content.

I'm pretty much on the edge of just packing up my house and quitting at this point. The game isn't dead. The people playing it just aren't playing the content. Outside of roulettes, getting specific content, or even seeing anything interesting in party finder(actually seeing anything in party finder) is a rarity.

This isn't an NA problem. It's a worldwide problem. Every region has seen a marked increase in queue times for certain content.

Euphrosyne isn't what I would consider a fair point of comparison, however. Its queue times have been surprisingly long since its inception, though they are undeniably much longer now than they were when it was new. The mere fact it had such long queue times at release tells us more than a few people didn't like it.

I wanna be very clear that I'm not suggesting you're being dishonest -- I don't necessarily find it hard to believe lol. That said, that sounds insane to me. I regularly forget to get my clear till the end of the week (in fact, this reminded me that I still haven't yet...), and I tend to play late at night (PST), but I've never had to wait longer than maybe fifteen minutes, max, for Euphrosyne.

Regardless, you're infinitely more patient than I am lol. I probably would've withdrawn a half an hour into the queue at the absolute latest.

I wont call NA 'Abnormal' but i will say it has the highest density of casual players in any region.

That straight up affects everything to do with actual gameplay, Raiding was a nightmare for the 7 months i played on Seraph, and i will never go back again.

How a community cannot decide on a single strategy and use 300 different variations of something simply just to make it their own, is beyond me.
There were so many groups saying 'JP Strats' but then changing them to make the strats harder than they were originally just to be different.

It's Chaos, that is the only word i have to describe playing on NA.

It's not a bad thing for day to day stuff, but it's a terrible experience in the higher end gameplay.

This was my argument when i left Matera 11 months ago and went back to JP and then onto NA (Seraph specifically).

People are not willing to engage with the content that the game provides, either because its too easy and boring, or the content has been out for 3+ months and is still locked to rewards once per week. Everyone is sick of it.

People spend 90% of their time pretending XIV is an IMVU simulator and ERPing/AFKing and refuse to actually play the content the game has.

At this point the game either needs to churn out more engaging content, or start drip feeding content every 2-4 weeks to keep people engaged. (AND I HATE DRIP FED CONTENT!)

content every 2-4 weeks is just not feasible for developers to do. Heck I keep saying the grass is always greener with WoW in how much content the game has but even in that game where it actually has more engaging stuff to do than current FFXIV.....people are already quitting or just stop playing.

Its foolish to actually listen to the addicted players who keep yelling and shouting "please sir, I want some more". This doesnt excuse the game for not having just a taaaad more bit something to chew on, but no matter how much more retention content this game churns out, people will still complain, people will be unhappy one way or another, its part of the nature of the average MMO player. Somehow, someway, somebody will find something to complain about.

It is the most profitable title Square Enix has ever had, and they want to 'spare no expense' on keeping players happy.
Which means spending the money on an extra development team for 7.0 to bring about a faster release pace for content.

If they cannot keep to their own word, and are not willing to spend the extra money to produce long lasting content that will keep people happy during the downtime between major patches, then they shouldn't be making statements like this.
Looking at the JP forums and many other fan based forums for XIV, the same issue rings out loudly, People want more.

I think it's very important to point out that Yoshida does not identify the specific type of player he is pertaining to.
It's a very ambiguous statement.

To be fair, this was the last thing I needed off my weekly checklist, and I did other things while I waited. Like there's no way I'm going to sit there and stare at the screen for 5 hours while queueing. I have a bunch of finals all through next week so I just studied until the queue popped. It's just one benefit of being a student.

Once I finish school in around 4-5 years I won't be so lucky as to be able to wrap my schedule or my rl tasks around the game's queues.

Dead, in this case, is a relative term. It will no longer be a popular MMORPG. There are a lot of MMORPGs out there still running with several hundred thousand players. Games that came out nearly a decade before FFXIV 1.0 was released.

Given the number of vocal "hostages" in these forums who are willingly paying a subscription for this game solely because they have a house and want to keep it, I do not see the game dropping into the Abyss that "this game will be dead" presumes.

FFXI is still running with paying subscribers despite the lack of new full expansions (Seekers of Adoulin was released in 2013). They've added many Scenarios (think patch-level quest series here) since then. The latest "chapter" of The Voracious Resurgence released late last year.

Will there be as many virtual data centers in each Data Center? Probably not. Consolidation could drop things down to a single virtual data center in each regional Data Center and the game would continue to make money for Square Enix.

At some point, the steady-state of this game will be similar to the steady state of other long-running MMORPGs. It has yet to reach that point.

To be clear here, Yoshida did not say "most profitable title". He said "most profitable title in the Final Fantasy series", which is a subset of the games produced by Square Enix. If you really desire, I can provide links to the latest financial reports from Square Enix, where we find browser/mobile gaming has about double the net sales of the MMORPG sector.

Also, the interview was given to IGN in October 2021. Endwalker was yet to be released.

I'm happy to hear they're getting more funding. I do not expect the formula that brought them to this point will change much in the future.

I can only speak for Aether. I forget about Euphrosyne every week. I end up doing it Sunday night or Monday night in Eastern prime time. I run it strictly on RPR since I still eff up a couple things so I don't want to heal or tank it yet. My queue is never longer than about 20 or 30 minutes. Dunno about the status on the other NA data centers. I see Dynamis folks in these runs from time to time but not often the other NA data centers.

Same. I've heard that JP servers kind of expect everyone to do it because the devs put it out. But here on NA we do what we're interested in and leave what we aren't to those who are. And we catch a lot of flack around here simply because we stick with what we like. I've never understood why it's such an issue and something we get judged on that we do content because we'll enjoy it and avoid anything we won't.
