Will FFXIV 2.0 graphics engine still have high quality graphics options?

Like the title asks... but in more detail I am wondering if the FFXIV 2.0 graphics engine will allow for the high level of graphics detail that we have right now.

I ask because I paid around $2800 for my current PC to be able to max this game out, since I was such a FFXI fanboy when I was younger. Some people don't understand why people buy expensive PC's, but let's not focus on that.

It isn't a HUGE deal to me, I would just like to know.

Sorry if this is posted somewhere obvious, but I didn't see the info blatantly staring out at me anywhere.

No, it's already been confirmed by Bobby Gunz that the game will only feature "Low Settings."

No graphical settings have been officially confirmed though, but Yoshi-P did say the pictures were running off 15% optimization, so take that however you want. However, this being a PC game. I don't see why it wouldn't.

That was just a passive aggressive attack toward someone who has been making the biggest deal ever over the new graphics engine. I added a serious part to my post.

Look at the SS's, doesn't look worse to me. Shaders and lightning looks vastly improved on the other hand.

Despite my... Lack of patience with the threads being reborn (though I guess it's good? it's a sign that people are coming back to the game I guess). I was actually giving a helpful answer. I don't remember all the exact details but if you check the E3 interviews you'll see that the screenshots given weren't full quality just yet.

And hell the screenshots look about 10x better than the current game on shaders alone.

here are the E3 screen shots they are again NOT even up to top level settings but look O SO good

and the new engine is going to be great it will allow me to use high end for my main PC but allow me to play on my laptop finally for on the road play ^^

The textures and polygons counts look like they have been downgraded in favor of displaying more character models at the same time. If you read between the lines of the recent interviews two things emerge:

-When asked about the graphics quality it was stated that they're going for maximum characters, i.e. invoking the tradeoff between quality and quantity. That's like if I ask if your health is good and you answer that you bought a 3DS to pass your time at the hospital.
-When asked about the texture quality it was stated that what you see in the screenshots is "pretty much set".
-The E3 demo was stated to be running at "high" quality.
-When asked about the "graphics pillar", accessibility was emphasized, not quality.

So, I don't think it's looking good and I think that's very disappointing. How disappointing the final product is going to be is unknown, but it will probably be somewhere between a big bummer and mass rage quits.

With that said, I hope future screenshots prove me wrong!

It's still looks good regardless of the downgrade, it's "Hardly" noticable, to be honest it looks like they just stripped gear of it's reflective lighting.

Now if they changed the graphics to this:

Then I'd probably quit.

Keep in mind that what we're seein' is a tech demo mock-up. It was confirmed somewhere (I ain't lookin' it up. Do your own research!) that the systems running the tech demo at E3 were kinda low end.

The E3 screenshots look perfect to me. As long as the engine is optimized and the graphics can scale anywhere from super-low-end to high-end (which is what they're aiming for, especially to get a wider demographic, I think) I'll be happy.

Hell, I've never been a big graphics buff. I still play all of my PS2 games, and most of my PC games are pretty low graphics grade.. Dawn of War, for example.

Lesser graphics = much more playability.

I guess in the belt detail the gold plates seem less like a piece that's floating above the character's model and more like part of it in the 2.0 image as well? But I had to scrunch up far clsoer to my screen than I can reliable play as to do that.

The lighting and shadows are better, and that goes a long way. Moreso than high poly counts if you ask me.

Also something to consider: AMD and NVIDIA will likely be releasing drivers to improve graphical performance in the game once 2.0 goes gold.

It was a laptop running the game on "high" settings. That's pretty bad news that a laptop can run it on high.

Even if they have lowered the poly counts on the models and environments, they said they will be supporting DX11 after lunch launch. Hopefully they will be supporting hardware tessellation, which will smooth out the hard edges on characters and environments.

Hopefully they will be supporting reduced anistropic load count which will give even more definition to areas of low definition.

Id take the quality you saw in the 2.0 screenshots with a grain of salt....the game is only 15% optimized for hardware atm, and who knpws exactly what settings were set for the client they were using.....there s a lot of factors to consider. What you saw in the screenshots was not finished product, and i can assure that even the alphas graphics will be inferior to the beta and even the official launch client.

Imo the screenshots were released to show us certain things about the game and potentially, what it may look like. Im positive that the devs or even yoshi-p disnt anticipate people to criticize the quality of the pre alpha screenshots they posted.

On that note, im sure hardware requirements for the 2.0 client wont differ too much from what 1.0's is. But only time will tell.
