The old /block stance.

Hey all, just a quick thread really.

Was watching some old videos I recorded way-back when I was first levelling Gladiator and couldn't help but smile at the whole raising-a-shield-to-block thing. I'm probably the only person playing now that actually would enjoy seeing it return, but I also miss the stance itself. That was epic, and that stance is what this enquiry relates too...

Is there any way we could see it back? I know it is still in game - it flashes up momentarily upon blocking, but i'd personally like to see more done with it?

Couple of potential suggestions:

• A shield bearing character, in active mode, moves into this block stance after a few moments without moving. Either at-all, or allow strafing while locked on? Cancel upon changing position.
  
• A shield bearing character, in active mode, locks on to an engaged target? Cancel upon dropping lock.
  
• As an additional emote. Some form of pose or perhaps a partner-in-crime to a taunt emote?

The latter being with or without some form of optional text:

Andy Solace raises his shield in defense!

Andy Solace sees Signore Chard and defends!

Andy Solace warns off incoming trolls!

...Or something...

I mad a thread to bring it back before, your right were the only ones. Although I'd prefer now it be an action with increased blocks decreased attack or something

I also miss the old Stone wall animations. (The ones where with every level the wall was getting bigger and bigger)

No boo, there was just stoneskin I and II. It never grew with levels lol.

And I miss the stance too. I'd like to see a decrease in attack for block rate to nulify some of the damage. The tradeoff is you can't use weaponskills or abilities besides shield ones. So you are trading building hate for reducing damage.

Well, I doubt anyone would disagree that at the very least, a /block emote would be cool. In fact, class / job specific emotes would be cool.

They took the old blocking stance and replace it. It's not a skill anymore as to when you did it you skilled up shield(though I thought it was cool). Now it's all based on block rate and abilities to block (through stats like DEX, VIT and MND). It's very RPG and random now and we can't directly control when we can block(only influence the frequency of it with glad abilities).

I still thought it was very RPG-like to decide to either use shield or sword while in combat but SE still took it out with the over-haul of the system(which really sucks IMO). That wouldn't made PLD a much better shield and support healer to draw in hate and defense while constantly having his/her shield up and ready! Pugilist also had a defense stance(though I never saw it) and I thought would of been very useful.

I hated having to put my shield up every time it fell. I quit playing gladiator because I hated doing it. I wouldn't mind the stance but having to hit the button to put it up time and time again no I don't want that. Its possible now that they have changed how abilities work that it might be better then how it worked before.

Before this gets too derailed, i'm not really talking about re-introducing the block ability, just the stance that came with it. The raised shield, weapon drawn back and such.

I liked that pose as well. Perhaps it could be reintroduced as the visual representation of Outmaneuver or Aegis Boon.

perhaps they could add a block command to PLD that made you stop auto attacking and constantly block (I mean in RL you might do that some times)

this way you could block all attacks (tho you should still take some damage maybe like 60%) only down side would be no DPS cause your not attacking and maybe when you activate it you could get a Emnity Boost of like 50% that dwindled over time perhaps to like 0 after 30 sec -1 min,.. (which would result in lower Emnity over all as your base would suffer for no DPS)

they would have to add a like 8 - 12 min recast time tho this would be a great emergency "Save the Party" Move that would give your mages time to heal up and loose hate for a few moments

Or, rather. Given Divine Veil auto-blocks... And hey, Aegis Boon does the same. So it'd be neat to make that your basic battle stance when either of those is up!
That said- I don't think the game has the animations to go from block stance to auto-attack (haven't played at that time) so, yeah, neat as it is we can guess when it might be implemented (in the case it is).

No idea the hell you smoked but- It did grow with each level.

Seems there are quite a few decent ideas floating around about how the defensive elements of pld can be increased. bring back the meat shield! lol

WAR is tanky beyond belief now, and kinda makes pld redundant. Any of these ideas could help put it back on the map.

On Pld: Auto-Block + Aegis Boon= Heal Block, Heal, Block, Heal [or] Auto-Block + Outmaneuver= Block, Regain[TP+], Block, Regain, Block, Regain... switch back to Auto-attack and do TP moves(rinse and repeat). EPIC!

Benefits- gain more hate(more enmity).
