Disappointed by the questions asked at today's Pax East panel.

I know I shouldn't have been too surprised that they tossed Yoshida so many softball questions and only deviated from the topic of the next 10 years. Yet when questions that have 80 likes don't even get picked and they chose one that only got one like. It just makes you wonder why did you even bother with liking most of the questions that got a lot of likes or even ask your question.

The one question that wasn't related to the topic was even dumb and shows how so many don't lurk in any lore discord sections or the lore section of these forums. Along with only knowing the name of the item in the English version. And that's what's the Heart of Sobeak. It's just black auracite. As it's literally just called Black Auracite Sobeak in the other languages. I doubt we'll learn much more about it.

There were so many other questions they could have picked that was worse and better than that one. Especially when it comes to the Lore. Yet this one like Bayhone said (who looked pretty good since the last time I saw them at a Q&A) maybe we'll stop seeing it getting asked. It probably only got asked cause it was one of those questions that only picked cause even they are tired of seeing it pop up all the time. It's literally a where are the peaches type question.

What did they ask about the Heart of Sabik? Whatever their answer was might be a clue to the finale of Pandaemonium.

Dodging the hard questions is what they always do. At this point, the thread that they create to post questions in doesn't even have a purpose other than to give people the illusion that their questions actually matter.

They asked what it was. We got the answer to the Presence of Silver Tear Lake answer in that they can't tell us more about it now. That we might learn about it soon TM. Course the whole reason we know it's called Black Auracite Sabik is because Koji got asked what the Heart was many years ago at a different Q&A.

I know that they tend to dodge the harder questions. Which is why when Bayhone told us they were going to mostly stick to questions about the 10 year topic I lowered my expectations. Then they got into the Yoshida what's your favorite ____ only to toss in that one lore question at the last second. Where again it's such a softball question. When the highest numbered of like questions pertain to Blue Mage and they don't even touch those... it just makes you wish they asked him the favorite wine question instead.

Wow they answered the easy questions that make them look good and ignored any questions that reflect the product their selling negatively?

So, Ive noticed this for years now.
It sounds like their Panels Talk about the game and things within the world. Its sort of a Fun & Chill Hang with the Devs sort of deal.
Questions around this theming seems to be representative of this.

Meanwhile the Forum here, or maybe even other places, expect it to be their chance to ask about Gameplay Features and to get info on the Future of the game.
These questions always seem to get ignored.
So it gives me the feel that they arn't "Hard questions" moreso just not questions to be asked and addressed for this type of Event.
But of course I say that, but cant say or fathom when exactly they may actually take on and address these types of questions presented to them.

I think we just misunderstood the topic. It was vague and unclear. Asking a question about your adventures could mean about game mechanics you had experiences with, and questions about the development team's path on the journey to the 10th anniversary could include anything, including about development and including about the present and future prior to the 10th anniversary. It was just not written or translated well in my opinion.

These panels are PR events. They exist entirely to make the game look good. If you expected anything else, that's on you.

I mean yeah, but there were plenty of questions like when will Blue Mage get an update next? that they could have also just as easily answered. While also making the game look good. There also have been many times when they do about a 50/50 with the questions. Or have a broader spectrum of questions asked then what we got for this one. As Jeeqbit said the question presented to the players was vague and unclear. A person even asked for more clarification and yet didn't get responded to.

Okay, so I watched it.. And I don't think fluff questions are necessarily bad. But the questions they answered were 90% just about Yoshi-P.

This is the problem. He's on such a high pedestal now that they use the panel to just give Yoshi-P attention.. What about all of the other devs? What about what the team struggles with, and has had to endure these past 10 years?

Why does this have to be about personal reflection? It's just inflating ego at this point.

It's like Steve Jobs with better hair. Give Yoshi a turtleneck and we'll be on our way.

I have a sneaking suspicion that particular BLU question is something dealing with content coming in the 6.4 patches, and thus will be answered by the next live letter. Which may be why they ignored that particular one, as it's a question we'll be getting an answer to very shortly.

Certain questions just don't necessarily illicit any meaningful response for a variety of reasons, so for many questions, even if they were to answer them, I don't think they would get answered in the way that the community expects, and we'd just be back to this same square now.

You'd be surprised. They have in the past even if the answer is just we can't say anything right now, but we'll touch on it in the next LLP. Anyone who asked to fix Healers or give Kaiten back to Sam shouldn't have expected anything. Yet part of the reason why I bring up Blue is a lot of the questions that asked things about it were the ones that got a fair amount of likes. Which they say is meant to be how to try and get said topic brought up at these Q&As. That and they've been fairly radio silent about anything pertaining to Blue. Except for the joke about thinking about that Blue pvp only content.

I also don't think anyone was fully expecting questions that led to answers such as Yoshida likes to do people watching on patch days. Or that he is the BLM in the Healer Adjust meme. Or "shocker" he gave us the all the expansions are his favorite child... Except for the one he made an entire game from. This time with more Kaiju battles. That you know we might get a cross over with XVI but only if the producer of XVI can be sweet talked into it. He hears they're supposed to be at a panel tomorrow.

The last BLU leveling update was in 5.45, afaik. It's not too far-fetched to assume the same applies to EW. We'll know in a week.

Questions pertaining to job balance and philosophy really don't belong at a PAX east Q&A its more generalized questions or 'fun' ones. Blue Mage is getting an update I believe in 6.4 so likely 6.45, the main bit I liked was the mention of the graphics update and how they're all in on it and also that he would like to bring FF9 more into the game (Its my fav one so it needs some damn representation haha)

But also a lot of questions can't be answered especially if say the 7.0 or 7.X series of patches will address some of those questions...so that's why it can kind of ring hollow. Im not saying they couldn't of just said skip or I can't answer that right now it just wouldn't of fit. I also notice it seems people are annoyed it like goaded his ego with a lot of them. I don't know if you could hear the audience but it strikes me as the sort of crowd that love the guy and what he's done for the game and the community. Sadly stormpeaks I know where your stance is...I can see the negative and the positive and talk about it...I just get tired of complaining or negativity. If you somehow think the forums is even remotely positive you're deluded... it's just constant moaning which eventually just drowns out everything else. Positive or actual constructive feedback posts barely get posts..only hot takes, negativity or drama garner massive comment engagement. You also put words in my mouth me saying complaint when I merely said unconstructive because a lot say change X but don't really offer reason for that want and just expect others to agree. There is much that can be changed but at the end of the day...long term change takes time....me voicing a concern or issue now doesn't mean its going to get fixed and even if it does...it could be 4-5 or more patches away because their roadmaps are scheduled for the most part that far in advance.

You and me both pal...you and me both. People really put some weird expectations on things these days, then again that's no different and I have been here since ARR launched haha.

The event they do a Q&A at is not really relevant because FFXIV players are still the target audience regardless. They do interviews and Q&As at all kinds of events and answer almost any kind of question. Even after live letters they have often just had questions about the history of the game or for one of their employees who manages a part of the development cycle of the game that few people are interested in. The topic was just pretty vague and could have been clearer about not wanting development and feature questions.

Okay, was there any question of future substance that was worth listening to? or not a single one? (not past lore or about Yoshi P)

Completely agree, personally I didn’t know they had a thread or anything as I don’t look into other aspects of the forum besides this section. So it was a little pointless in that regard for them to have done it. But I didn’t expect much and the only thing I liked hearing is their brief comment on the visual upgrade cause they seem to be really happy with it so far even once again saying they’re still striving to go further with it.

The only good thing that they did mention is they will/might take a look at expanding the furniture limits inside of houses post 7.0 launch.

The thing is, they said right at the beginning of that "ask your questions" thread that there was a theme and they would only be taking questions on that theme. People proceeded to ask other sorts of questions regardless.

It doesn't matter how many likes a question got if they judge it to be outside the parameters of what they have said will be the subject of the Q&A. They told you in advance what their rules were.

The best you can do is attempt to phrase it in a way that pertains to the topic, make it at least somewhat complimentary, and hope that they will accept it as relating to the theme – while being fully aware that they've said in advance that they'll probably reject it as not on topic.

Why do people even bother asking questions, when you know a company will be to afraid to answer question that are asked that second, real questions not ones they select from a long list which always select the easy ones

...which is a bit vague, leaving room for a lot of different questions to be asked. If they wanted players to ask specifically about YoshiP's personal feelings towards a specific expansion and its story, about lore-related questions only, or how he felt when he dropped his after-lunch dook-dook on January 23rd of 2016, then they really should have tightened up "the theme" a bit. I suppose you could chalk this down to a translation/transliteration issue, but then that just means that they should get someone to review how things are meant to sound before they allow them to be posted.

Otherwise, let's be real: most of the people who asked questions related to gameplay probably decided that it was better to shoot their shot and hope for the best, like you infer at the end, but probably under the notion that they don't feel like they would reach the development team with their questions or feedback otherwise since they had to resort to sending in those questions there. It's not like much indication is being given to the contrary anyway, and it's still a bit of a mystery where much of the feedback they do claim to get is coming from.

I didn't really expect much of substance overall. Frankly, the most interesting question for me was the one for the Heart of Sabik, despite A) knowing he wouldn't and probably couldn't elaborate on it due to most of that being info made by Oda and Koji-Fox, and B) the fact that those "in the know" lore-wise already have a good idea on the basic idea of it. I would definitely appreciate more hard facts rather than speculation.

It's been said before, but I am honestly surprised they even asked the forums anything at all given how little they interact with us on a regular basis. We got some tentative housing item news and more collab teasing. That's better than nothing

so, what was the question?

Didn't know that panel was a thing, and from what I've read it wasn't that important. Just another boring and bland PR fluff move for them, I guess.
Although, if most question really just were about Yoshi P, then it's just another nail in the coffin, of how out of touch, tone deaf, and 'Just an obvious Cult', they are or have become.

On the other hand, if they don't select and answer some of the highly liked questions from that thread, or use it for feedback to address on the upcoming live letter, then they're really just sticking their heads in the sand, not wanting to face any form of criticism/feedback/truth, valid or otherwise, of the game's current shape.

The only questions on the theme I was hoping to hear the most about was things regarding cut content. Things we could have gotten but didn't get. Cut content in games is some of the more interesting aspects of the development to me.
