I have done everything to catch these stupid fish and nothing. It is beyond frustrating. I give up. Way to gate progression behind something to stupid. I have been doing this for months so no I am not looking for a quick finish. I wait for the right weather, I watched the guides and nothing. I give up.
I am not quitting or hating on the game overall but I am so frustrated with this. needed to get it off my chest.
Maybe you all have some pointers that I have not done but I think I have done them all.

The cool thing about this quest line is you can get any of the fish at any part of the quest. Chum and surface slap are your friends. Only reel in the correct tug you're looking for. So if your target intuition fish is a ! then only reel in !. The only fish that felt that it had a tight window was the one in Southern Thanaland. All of the target fish are a !!!.

I hate to be the one to tell you this, but with the abilities and higher GP we have now those fish are much easier to catch than they used to be. What's more, they barely move the needle on the bullshitometer compared to some of the fish you're going to see in later expansion zones.

Did it last year and finished it in a day. Like many battles it is best won before you enter the fight. Organize a good timetable and research the fish in advance. If I, a junior angler at the time, can do it, anyone can.

I think I gave up on this quest years ago....I know it's been in my quest log for years(probably since 2016 or 2017), but I've practically given up on most things fisher related due to how many of the fish require very specific conditions, and those might not happen for long stretches of time.

I too at one point wished SE would swoop in and nerf my problem fish, but eventually I just relaxed and made a hobby out of it. 2 years later I got my Big Fish title and it's honestly been one of the most fun and rewarding achievements I've ever done. I met tons of people and made new friends just sitting around the fishing hole.
So no, I don't think they need nerfed, because fishing isn't about rewards or the catch, it's the journey you took to get there. It ain't for everybody, but neither are raids, and I think it's fine for fishing to continue to exist as it currently is -

I did this quest back at the 80 cap before EW came out. Never could make all of the different fish's windows in a single day. Had to catch even just a few attempts right before work or wake up extra early to get those windows in.
All in all, it was a fun thing to do once, and honestly, the quest itself made me realize I didn't want to really get into fishing beyond just leveling it in this game. Kind of a fun change of pace, but not something I want to take seriously. -

If you can’t see just how much the player is rewarded by having more max GP with gear, and more GP regeneration and better abilities at higher levels, then what you are really arguing for is that you just want the escape chance on big fish to go away entirely with a higher gathering stat. The same tired complaint that players who don’t actually want to enjoy the fishing mini-game have pushed on these forums for years. -

It took me about a month to complete it. I kept seeing the same people at the same holes, over and over again, and we did in fact become friends with each other as we were all struggling. We cheered when someone finally caught one of the stupid fish and was free from the hell of that particular hole.
Whenever you see someone with the title <Of Dragons Deep> it's basically the fishing equivalent of an Ultimate title. (If you see someone with Big Fish, it's the equivalent of a multi-ultimate.) -

I've banged my head against it during HW with little success, however however at 80 and with knowledge and new skills it was different and it was a task of 2 days.
Things that help, Surface slap the most common fish, and only reel in when its a fish you need, surface slap stays on till you actually reel in another fish.
Know the bite time and size of your fish, every fish has a more or less unique bite time, if its not yours ... don't reel.
Can you use identical hook to get basically ready for the buff the moment the window opens.
If you hate these fish, do not continue trying for big fish, these fish are very very mild compared to the later ones, that sometimes have a window once per week.
The quest is fine, its a small test of knowledge and tenacity its also fully optional, there is nothing locked behind it but a title I've never seen anyone use it. -
