How can one be having too much stats for a macro?
If you're talking about pre-mature completion due to having too much craftsmanship, then all you need to do is just to add in a line of:
/ac "Final Appraisal" <wait.2>
If someone tells you that "having more stats for a macro is bad", he or she is probably not someone you should learn from... It's just wrong on so many levels...
Apart from the fact that Final Appraisal could resolve your problem easily, the other matter is that crafting is not just about stats.
Crafting is about planning a rotation (you need to understand the 'tool kit' of yours to create your own rotations and macros... be creative and innovative about it),
and executing the rotation while catering the favorable conditions that come at you occasionally.
You said you were using a guide... I hope it's not a guide that was just feeding you with macros... cos that's kind of meaningless...
I think Ch9, Ch10 and Ch11 of my guide will be of great help to you:

Ch9 is about how to make use of crafting conditions
Ch10 is about how to generate a rotation, and some examples were given to you
Ch11 is about some common mistakes that people make
I have a feeling that you might have been learning crafting in a wrong way...
Instead of overwhelming yourself with overmelds, trying to craft a high-end item, you should have been having fun on utilizing a new action every time you learn a new action... That way, your pool of knowledge in the actions will gradually build up, and eventually be proficient in constructing your own combos and rotations.
When I was leveling my crafters 8 years ago, every time I learned a new action, I was super thrilled, and I would try it out in every way possible to see how it can be used together with other actions... Back then, I didn't even have the power or gil to upgrade my gear, and sure I fail my crafts sometimes, but it was so much fun! Good old days!
