Change SCH Dissipation

This ability locking you out of all fairy abilities just feels bad to use and is lack luster.

My way to improve it or rework the skill is:
Still remove the fairy (if SE want it to keep that theme)
But have the Fairy abilities emanate from player character.
Fairy Wings visual on the player maybe? (might be too similar to WHM )
Still gives 3 aether flow.
Still buffs healing.

I love Scholar but dam I've always disliked this ability.
Really think it needs to be changed.

Also why the hell does our fairy still have a cast time?

Just friggen get rid of it. Buff Energy Drain if need be because this ability feels so clunky and backwards to use. The only time I have ever touched this ability was for more Energy Drain. Losing the fairy always felt terrible even when using it for that because micromanaging it is part of our core gameplay. Give us a better HW capstone ability.

Then again, some other Jobs have been complaining for ages and finally got something changed - DRKs have complained about Living Dead since 3.0 as well. If the wheel is squeaky enough, sometimes it gets oil.

I still remember the day it was introduced and how I immediately complained about it. Well, nothing has changed in what, 7 years ? It's always felt out of place.

My personal opinion is to change it to act similar to WHM's Assize, AST's Earthly Star, and SGE's Pneuma. Make it deal damage, with maybe a potency of 250, and create a "stackable" shield with a potency of 500, and it could be on a 60 sec cool down. That lines up well with the other healers similar skills. The increased healing potency could be added to Seraph, as that just makes sense anyway, both you and your faerie get stronger.

Maybe the problem is just how restrictive it is? I wonder, if we just divide everything by 3, would that help make it feel less bad? ATM we're locked out of the fairy for a full 30s. That sucks. So what if we changed it to 60s CD, locks you out for 10s, and gives 1 stack instead of 3? Over 3mins, it'd do the same thing, but it'd now be more versatile.

The only time I see Dissipation being useful outside of 'more energy drains' is in buildup enrages like Terminal Relativity, where you use it after every Fairy CD is spent, so you can get the 20% healing boost for the upcoming succor spam. But 10sec would cover the last wave of Terminal or Dominion or whatever just as well as the current 30s does. Unless we're spending everything on the first wave, and using Dissipation on both 2nd and 3rd which wouldnt make much sense to me but hey im not a SCH main (yet, maybe next tier)

Oh, they made one (absolutely necessary) change: The original skill did not resummon Eos after it was over, I don't think. You had to manually resummon her. If you weren't tracking when Dissipation ended, she just...wouldn't be there until you noticed. Though I don't remember if summoning was 5 sec back then or not, needless to say, they got enough complaints they changed THAT.

ForsakeRoe - I've seen it used as part of the "ultrashield" maneuver (where SCH use every last buff they can for a super Adlo to spread, usually in hardcore prog/world first parties to cheese some difficult mechanic, and it's often a party effort with MNK, BRD, etc getting in with their buffs, then spreading the Adlo and using lots of party mitigation to survive mechanics that are supposed to one-shot party members if failed), and the "galaxy brain" 4 man dungeon use is to hit Dissipation just as the party's finishing up the first two packs/first wall pull, this way the SCH has full AF going into the next two packs/second wall pull AND can use a buffed Adlo on the tank for a bigger shield to start off the pull.

Dissipation, we all forget, is technically supposed to be a healing CD. It boosts healing spell (useless on Physic, nearly always useless on Succor, not actually useless on Adlo) by 20% in addition to giving three Aetherflow supposedly to be used for healing the party in emergencies (lol!). It's just a really BAD one because it dismisses Eos, meaning you lose access to a lot of your heals, Energy Drain competes with AF heals (with the only exception being Recitation; Recitation can't be used for Energy Drain) for those three stacks you just got, consuming AF for the next 30 seconds doesn't contribute to Faerie Gauge since Eos isn't out, and despite giving you 3 AF stacks supposedly for healing, it only buffs healing SPELLS (Physic, Adlo, and Succor), not healing ABILITIES (all the oGCDs, including the AF ones it just gave you three of).

...I'm pretty sure you know all that and I'm preaching to the choir on this one, but basically, it defeats itself. It isn't useful as a healing CD outside of the ultrashield scenario, which is only really used by coordinated groups. Ultrashielding requires several GCDs and a lot of oGCD weaves (something like 5) that have to be done in a specific order (one is Fey Illumination, which you obviously have to use before Dissipation dismisses Eos and have to be careful not to ghost by using Dissipation too soon), and because it requires other party member support (if available), this requires a fair amount of coordination. It's there, but it's super niche and they could do the same thing by having it NOT dismiss Eos.

Alternatively, if it also buffed healing abilities, that would at least make it not at war with itself - why give AF stacks for healing and not boost their healing but instead boost the healing of spells, which are slow to cast and MP expensive, so not as useful in emergencies? Why not buff both? Why not have using Dissipation generate 30 gauge (since you will miss out on that from Eos not being there unless you hold them all until she comes back; and it's not like Faerie Gauge is so useful even if people were doing that it'd be gamebreaking or anything.

If it's going to be just a damage CD (which is how it's actually used most of the time), just have it generate 3 stacks of "Energy Drain Ready" that lets you get in 3 EDs without an AF cost, like how Recitation works for Adlo, Indom, and Excog and be done with it.

It's like it's trying to be 4 different things and doing none of them well because they kind of compete and it kind of half-asses each one. I think we want a whole ass, and we don't care which one, we just want SE to pick one ass and whole it. :)

SCH is my main healer, and I love and hate dissipation, mainly hate.
For myself when the fight starts (Mainly in savage/ex) I will summon seraph and UNGA Bunga shield at the start, and by the time she goes away I immediately eat my faerie for the Shields cover most of the incoming Damage, and I can gain aetherflow without missing out on the 2K mp regen on Aetherflow itself, as a min piety sch I need every ounce lol.

but besides that,
WHY do we lose Half our healing kit?
Why do we lose out Faerie?
Why does it grant Aetherflow BUT DOES NOTHING TO BUFF SAID AETHERFLOW?

Hell, if it just gave 3 stacks of aetherflow it would be better than it is now. The 20% healing is pointless (as you described) since it only affects 3 spells in our entire kit.

I say keep the aetherflow gain and also instead of the healing magic potency, make all spells instant cast for like 10 seconds or something like that.

Or, make it reset all of our faerie skills used. So we use whispering dawn then use dissipation then we skip the CD. I’d take that too. Just make it unique. I agree that healing magic potency is not good since it only affects 3 casted heals.

It truly was a hated skill when it was introduced, but I've (and so many others when they saw the trailer and when it went live) always had a problem with how it functions and feels at its core, as it has a strong identity. And it boils down to : why is the fairy "dissipated", why does it vanish when it's so central to the scholar job ? Did someone want to get rid of it at some point ? I certainly don't think so, we need more interactions with it instead.

I feel like Dissipation was a package we received from FedEx back when HW released, but since none of us ordered it, we tried to let the delivery guy know he had the wrong address, but rather than accept that, he just argued with us that he did, in fact, deliver it to the right address. And now here we are, almost 8 years later, still arguing with the FedEx delivery guy in the front lawn about how we didn't order this and we don't want it, and he just won't let up. The house isn't even ours anymore because we didn't have time to pay any bills. It's been collected and sold to another family. Our kid graduated high school and we missed the graduation. All because this damn delivery guy won't just take Dissipation and walk away.

In that perfect, disillusioned world existing in my head where we would have two different fairies with their own abilities, Dissipation would be a button SCH press to swap their currently summoned fairy for the one in reserve without resorting in pressing Summon Eos/Selene + additional effects. But alas, we're in real world. :sob:

I've 100% been on board with the Dissipation swapping the fairy and having two distinct ones for a while!

The least they could do is change the healing boost to all actions instead of healing potency so it affects Aetherflow healing (or does it? I’m doubting myself now). You know, the ability-based healing you’re presumably supposed to be following Dissipation with lol. Honestly I’d take them just straight up replacing it with something better; it doesn’t really make much sense for Scholars to eat the main thing that makes them unique lol

You're correct.

Healing Spells/Magic = GCD only
Healing Abilities = any and all healing

Dissipation only boosts Healing Spells. That's one of the MANY problems with it. It gives you Aetherflow supposedly to use for emergency healing, but doesn't boost the potency of Aetherflow heals. Because it dismisses Eos, you're out her passive heals and out the SCH faerie orders (like Whispering Dawn) heals, and you also don't get Faerie Gauge buildup since Eos isn't present. The spells it DOES boost have no interaction with Aetherflow or Eos/Selene, meaning there's no point for the ability to give you AF or cost you Eos in the first place.

A 3 min CD that boosts Physic(lol)/Adlo/Succor by 20% and gives you 3 AF stacks at the cost of all Eos healing and using any Eos abilities (or Seraph) or generating any Faerie Gauge by using those AF abilities while it's in effect.

My main gripe with Dissipation is that it's simply outdated.
It's actually fairly good in UwU, you GCD heal more often and 20% on those is good. The additional AF is also good since you use AF heals far more often. Losing your fairy for 30s is not as big of a loss as currently since you only have Whispering Dawn on 60s and Fey Illumination on 120s and Aetherpact. No Fey Blessing, no Seraph, no Recit for free crit Indoms, more limited toolkit in general.
Which makes it easy enough to use to take full advantage of everything without any downsides whatsoever.

But several expansions later, 30s lockout turns into a major problem because we have 2 more fairy skills, we barely if ever GCD heal, we even trim down AF heals to the bare minimum or even full ED spam.
Spreadlo is usually a waste of GCDs outside of transitions when you don't have a target anyway, so no point in megabuffing a shield when you can just press Whispering Dawn afterwards.
There's also the problem that it resets your fairy placement which is a major pain in the butt.

So if they lowered the lockout, let it affect oGCDs as well, let any AF spent count for the gauge and simply made the fairy phase out at its spot so you can't use fairy skills but stays in place, I'd be fine with it. I'm not opposed to being taxed in some way, SCH is the last healer that has to think a bit more when to use heals instead of just churning out free heals all day so I'd prefer it to stay that way. Besides, it's still ahead in dps even with the taxt so it's not like it doesn't have a spot because of this tax.

But if they could rework it to something more interesting like resetting/ lowering other fairy skill cooldowns or make it more flexible with a lower cooldown and adjusted stats, I'd be all for it. As long as it's a button you have to think about carefully when to use it because it could backfire if used poorly and not just another "just press it lol" button that makes HP bars move to the right. We have enough of those. I like Roe's idea of dividing all stats by 3, more flexible cooldowns suit the newer encounter design better in general.

And for god's sake, just make the fairy reappear after death already instead of us having to waste another GCD before we can even nom nom nom it for AFs.

If they don't want to change it for whatever reason... FINE.

However... at the VERY LEAST...
Make the potency increase healing action by 10% instead of that weird 20% healing spells.

Most of SCH kit oGCD action.

Since they don't want to change it since 3.x the best they could offer would be this.

I guess they like the sacrifice aspect of it but it's the only healer to be actively punished for using their emergency button.

It's kind of like when DRK was the only punished for using their invulnerablity.

I always thought back in SB (when Selena was different and unique) instead of locking you out, it would summon the other fairy while the other is on CD and swap back out if with oGCD if you want Eos back in when the CD ends.

That way you could have easily had a fairy out to use Whispering Dawn/Embrace/Fey Blessing/Union/Summon Seraph. But still "punish" you by not having access to the other for a CD.

But seeing as Selene and Eos are the same these days.....they might as well just add replace it with something else.

WHM - Temperance does what it does today, but you couldn't cast any Lily or GCD heal for the duration?
AST - Using Collective locked you into the animation (like BLU with Diamondback) and you couldn't use any Cards for 15 seconds after it was done?
SGE - For the duration of Panhaima (or Holos), you can't use any Addersgall abilitis or any of your oGCDs that generates a shield or barrier (Haima, the other of Panhaima or Holos, and anything ending in -chole)?

SCH has to make this decision - give up all Faerie abilities and even Seraph for 30 seconds.

For SGE I'd say it's more like Rhizomata causes your GCD heals to grant 1 Addersgall for 30 seconds, but disables Kardia healing for 30 seconds on a 180 second cooldown for 2 expansions. Then in 9.0, it now gives you 3 Addersting upon use.

We know SE love tanks and DRK got it's invuln fixed in 6.0
By that logic, you can't expect a SCH 3.0 problem to be fixed before at least 9.0
That is if they find "what they can do" with the job by then.

Dissipation definitely needs a buff….an add-on in a way. WHM’s give party dmg reduction, AST gives a shield/regen. SGE DPS/cure nuke that Zoe can buff. SCH’s……you barely use your healing tools to benefit the 20% buff. If they want the fairy to remove from the field, just give it a buffed party max HP up on top of the 20% healing buff.

Thought about the regen, shield, and dmg mitigation, but the other healers have it in their 2 min abilities so was thinking of a party protraction….stronger version though.

They don't know what to do with DRK or SCH. At this point I'd say nix the AST/DRG reworks and focus on DRK/SCH. At this point DRK needs a number of changes to where it feels good to play and survive on. SCH...it's time to retire Aetherflow and make the Fairy gauge the main healing gauge, since that allows them to change a large number of healing skills and abilities to fit it. It also allows Dissipation to be changed into something good, like a gauge dump. We can just make Energy Drain an oGCD with 2 charges (40s cooldown per charge) that gets you MP and gauge per use.

Hmm, something like the gauge caps at 100, but every embrace gives you 5 gauge since it cast every 3 secs? They may have to adjust the cost so yeah. Makes dissipation restore the gauge cost, but buffs the potencies of said abilities of the SCH kit for that 30 sec.

Dissipation definitely has problems. It doesn't mesh well with the kit, doesn't facilitate choice, etc. I have yet to see a solution for it that isn't just "and here's why the most powerful healer in the game needs to be made even more powerful".

I see nothing in Dissipation that is worth salvaging. I want to salvage Selene, because the idea of having different pets that offer different things feels interesting and plays into whatever job fantasy SCH is trying to fulfill this week. Having a faerie healer who's big 3 minute button is removing your faerie from battle for some type of gain has no amount of appeal in any regard from my perspective.

If we really want to play with the idea of 'sending a faerie away,' then something that would be way more interesting in my mind would be sending either Eos or Selene into a temporary slumber, dissipating her aether into a massive field effect that covers the area in glittering faerie dust. During this time, whichever faerie you chose is unavailable, but the other comes out in her place. Actually figuring out what each choice provides and ensuring it feels balanced is a different beast though.

One idea that comes to mind for Eos is, for 30 seconds, any party member standing in the field of effect deals 5% more damage while their HP is 80% or higher. Selene's is something like a 5% critical hit rate buff on all party members who have mitigation on them, or a 5% critical hits received debuff on enemies that have mitigation debuffs on them, like Feint/Addle. Or something to that general effect. It's a very rough idea, but you get the picture.

I feel like I'm the only one who enjoys Dissipation. I've never looked at it as a DPS gain button. I know I can get three more Energy Drains but an extra 300 potency every 3 minutes is nothing to brag about. All the cool downs you lose during Dissipation are long too. Seraph and Fey Illumination have a two minute cool down while Whispering Dawn and Fey Blessing are both 60. It's not that hard to find 30 seconds where none of those buttons are available. The average player doesn't even use Dissipation. I've had to remind multiple people the button exists when I'm tanking and they let me die because they "ran out" of aetherflow. The Scholar kit isn't a buffet of skills like every other healer where every single button can be used together. I have an actual healing rotation on Scholar that makes me incredibly efficient once I understand how all my tools work. If a healing job has no learning curve and requires no basic understanding of the game it's boring. Scholar is one of the few jobs left with a skill ceiling even after losing around 7 dps abilities. I enjoy the thought process of when to use Seraph, Fey Union, and Dissipation because none of them can be used together but having them all makes me incredibly powerful nonetheless. We already lost the option of Selene and the one thing I know for sure is that they don't add complexity with their reworks. I truly fear what's going to happen when they try to make Scholar more accessible yet again. I don't want another braindead healing job.

Honestly, it's a tradeoff argument.

The problem: Dissipation is supposed to be an emergency button but is anti-synergistic with the whole kit.

What does it do:

1) It gives 3 Aetherflow for [until used].
2) It increases healing magic potency by 20% for 30 seconds.
3) It dismisses your Faerie for 30 seconds.

What's the problem:

1) Isn't buffed by (2), begging the question "Why are they on the same ability?" Further, (1) is generally used for damage, not healing, anyway.
2) Doesn't buff (1), and instead buffs the least used SCH abilities that are the least responsive, odd for an emergency ability.
3) Despite being an emergency button to boost healing, it dismisses a source of your passive healing and locks out 5 of your oGCDs (a direct single targeet heal, a direct AOE heal, an indirect AOE HoT, an AOE mitigation that also increases healing done [including by Aetherflow], and your big 2 min CD for barrier healing), additionally, it prevents generation of your tertiary healing resource; odd for an emergency healing button.

Now, there are three components of this, two positive (that don't play together) and one negative. So one solution would be remove one of the positives and one of the negative. For example, what if the ability didn't dismiss Eos but only boosted healing spells by 20% and had no Aetherflow? Or gave three Aetherflow but didn't increase healing magic potency? Either of those should still be roughly "balanced".

Another possibility is to take a page from New SMN's Aethercharge -> Dreadwyrm Trance -> Summon (Bahamut/Phoenix). In short: Have the ability upgrade into something. The 3 min CD isn't matched by anything else, but we have some options:

1) Fey Illumination upgrades into Fey Dissipation (or whatever). Initially at level 40 it increases healing magic potency of all nearby party members by 10% while reducing magic damage taken by 5%. The upgrade could increase magic potency to 20% or increase the damage reduction to 10% or grant 50 Faerie Gauge (this would require swapping Aetherpact and Dissipation learned levels so Aetherpact comes first at 60 instead of last at 70, but that's not a huge change), or grant an Aetherflow charge. Basically, have this existing, already somewhat powerful CD and just add an effect to it in the upgrade rather than having a separate ability. In this case, SCH is losing a CD, but gaining a bit in some way to an existing CD. This would be either a side-grade or a net nerf, depending on how you want to look at it, but not AS MUCH of a nerf as simply removing a CD ability with no consolation/compensation.

2) Dissipation is a lower level Summoner Seraph that upgrades to Summon Seraph at level 80. The lower level version could either give Eos/Selene a weaker version of Seraphic Veil for 22 seconds that gave her Embrace a magicked barrier absorbing half the amount of HP restored. Seraph as the upgrade then would double this AND get the two charges of Consolation. Or we could, again, learn from New SMN and actually give Seraph at that lower level, but she only has Seraphic Veil, and then at level 70, gains Consolation. This is also what MCH does with Queen learning Crown Collider at level 86 that she tacks onto her finishing combo after Pile Bunker. In this case, SCH is basically just losing Dissipation as a CD, but at least has something to level up into it so level 60 still has a capstone.

3) Make Dissipation Rhizomata. Yay homogenization, I guess...! \o/

So there are some way to make side-grades or change Dissipation to where it makes sense in SCH's leveling, if not its end-game. The second proposal is basically (at end-game) equivalent to just deleting it. The other two are not.

I've mentioned previously that I had this similar idea of what I'd like Dissipation to be in that disillusion, perfect world existing only in my head. Taken directly from my own writing:

Dissipation (Cooldown: 60s | 80 Fae Gauge)

Recovers 1 charge of Lustrate, Indomitability, and Excogitation, and replaces currently summoned fairy with the one in reserve.
Additional Effect: Increases healing action potency by 30%.
Duration: 12s
Additional Effect: Grants 1 stack of Aetherflow.
Maximum Stack: 3
Action changes to ‘Summon Seraph’ under the effect of ‘Overflowing Aetherflow’

Of course, that alone still requires more explanation how each resource interacts with one another, so..

You are correct. The Dissipation I wrote up there assumes we have different fairies than just a 'mere glamour' (and I tried to make them slightly different). I couldn't think of a way to write clearly without dumping wall of texts into my post, so I just linked the entire rambling in the 2nd 'Click to show'.

Most of the folks in this forum want to further gut the complexity of healers under the guise of making them more interesting.

Dissipation is a fine mechanic that has a tradeoff for a notable gain. Any scholar not using it on cool-down and mapping mits around it isn't doing their job well to begin with. Same with Seraph and Fae Blessing.

It's not an emergency button. It's a core part of the kit that needs to be played around. Dissipation should be used on cooldown. Not doing so is essentially halving your Aetherflow.

1. What are you talking about? Aetherflow is used on our best mit (Soil) as well as for our instant-cast heal (indom). ED is only used if you are about to overcap (which means you didn't need to heal), or are going into a burst window.
2. Mostly used for niche cases, but nice for deploying spreadloe.
3. It's not an emergency button. If you are using it as such you are already failing as mit healer. You are looking at a screwdriver and wondering why you can't use it like a battering ram to get through a door here. If you use the tool right (taking off the hinges of the door with the screwdriver) it is a much better tool.

As for the abilities locked out
- Aetherpact is garbage. Scholar could have both it and the Fae gauge completely removed and suffer not one bit.
- Fae Blessing should be used if needed before dissipation. It's a high-priority heal due to being free and should effectively always be on cooldown first. This is a non-issue.
- Fae Illumination and Whispering Wind are generally mapped out. If they coincide with your dissipation windows they can generally wait OR you can delay dissipation.
- Seraph should always be planned, and frankly the heal on it kinda sucks! It's great for mechanics that have moderate, continuous damage. (P4SP2 comes to mind during the tether phases, as you can't stop to cast there). For most raidwides I will prefer Soil, Expedient, Spreadloe, and (if I'm partnered with my static sage) E.T. Succor

The Aetherflow is why it's used. The Healing Potency is basically worthless.

All of these ideas sound terrible.

1. No. This just makes us lose a CD without any compensation. All you've done is bake two abilities together. This is made worse by the fact that you are keeping the garbage that is Aetherpact (which is literally nearly worthless) and axing dissipation (which is extremely useful)
2. Once again, you are cutting directly into our resource management and basically giving us nothing in return. The Aetherflow from dissipation is a massive chunk of our instant healing and burst damage. Let's leave it alone.
3. No thanks. If I want to play a simplified scholar, I'd play sage.

But the question is: Is the opportunity cost for losing the fairy worth the resources gained?

I submit that it is not.

Say you use it on DPS like most people say you should. It's 300 potency for a complete loss of fairy healing for 30s. That is a single extra Broil every 2 min. You're not exactly contributing more to the fight than if you didn't press that button.

That'd be like saying to Sage: When you use Rhiozomata your Kardia is removed from the target and you can't use Physis for 30s and your Addersting generation is stopped.

Now, if Quickened Aetherflow was still around, that would be a different story but CBU3 removed it.
