Update the Job Quests

Some old Job Quests, for example; Scholar, Astro, Dark Knight, maybe more... Reference/suggest abilities that do not exist anymore. Such as talking about differences in Fairies, talking about Sects, and even talking about using my 'darkside' in the Dark Knight quest line, which was an ability that no longer exists.

These old lines can possibly misguide people on the complexity of these jobs and lead to disappointment. They definitely make me feel a type of way, remembering all the abilities we lost.

The DRK quests referencing Darkside is actually also lore specific though, as it's also referring more to your actual 'dark side' of your soul/personality/emotions (namely,

it's physical manifestation in the form of Esteem

), which the WoL struggling to concile and have control over continues to play a major role in the DRK quests, as well as the ability of the same name, and is thus still definetely relevant.

It's one of those situations where naming an ability after a story aspect might not always be the best idea (another example is the 'Echo' effect buff not really having anything to do with the actual Echo at all, but just a cool name attached to a buff). But I digress.

Yeah, I figured that last bit was the weakest and could be interpreted differently. Recently am doing all sorts of quests again on an Alt and I'm just having memories flood in of what I used to be able to do. Also, I just realized that 'Darkside' essentially got repurposed into Flood/Edge, so that's a dead argument anyways. You'd never believe I run Savage on DRK saying that lmao :confused:

I believe everything else still stands...

I don't recall seeing anything about different fairies, but talk of sects could definitely use a revision. That might've been overlooked.

Better yet, bring back unique fairies, sects and darkside! Obviously not as they were but to "fit" the theme of the game now in its simplest state as far as jobs go.

For the fairies, the quest text mentions that they have different 'personalities'. From that, you could possibly infer they have different abilities, which you may know they used to have. As of right now though, you have the ability to summon 2 Different Fairies that do the exact same thing.

They did have different abilities back then but now it's color preference. One was good for healing and the other was good for buffing.

While I don't disagree with the premise per se, it's such a low-priority issue that I don't particularly care about it. Change them, sure, but there's no particular hurry.

I would be very surprised if this was any sort of issue for a significant number of players. Most people just play the game and move on with their lives.

I agree that the job stories need an overhaul, much like the jobs from ARR and HW themselves. I think the original classes to jobs system is outdated and the HW job quests (crafters too) are just way, way too grindy. A simple system to help new players more into the game would be awesome. The MSQ is grindy enough.

Darkside is the name of your damage buff flood/edge give you

Yeah, my OP was edited a long time ago to take note of that, as well as myself mentioning it pretty early on after I said it lol. I'm definitely embarrassed that I missed that when making the thread, as I do run DRK in Savage content. I just thought of it as the Flood/Edge damage buff and not 'Darkside'. I remembered 'Darkside' being a toggle, sort of like a tank stance and thought it was gone entirely. Honest mistake.

Aside from that, do you have any opinion about anything else mentioned in the thread?

I did the AST quests quite a few times and the card assignation thing bugs me EVERY TIME.

Summoner's HW story says that a given person can only "hold" three egis at a time, to explain why we couldn't create a Ramuh-egi. Then we got Bahamut and Phoenix. Yes, they're technically demisummons, not egis, but the distinction feels like splitting hairs.

Machinist goes on about how the job was created as a support unit for the Temple Knights, but now machinists have no non-role support skills (aside from Tactician, which might as well be a role skill, since it's functionally identical to Shield Samba and Troubador).

I would’ve liked to see early BLM quests assist the guild in Uldah in the funerary rituals they do. IIRC they use fire, frost and thunder to preserve bodies.

I’ll also always be a little disappointed our RPR Voidsent isn’t someone special/significant. Though I do understand why they went that route with the quests. Shoulda got to see its personality come out tho imo.

Never said it was. Bards don't heal, but they have support skills to bolster the party.

In this day and age, there is no reason why each class cannot have a 20-hour-long storyline quest. (fully voice-acted).

And mch used to have bishop and took turret that gave tp and mp but don't anymore. Their utility is just about and might as well be gone.

I always cheesed Deathgaze Hollow with that. It is a shame that we don't have it anymore. But at the time, Scholar esunas were tied to the Aetherflow, so it made sense for them to have another one.
