It never justified itself, even before melee uptime changes.

I'm not sure why Shadowbringers gets a free pass here when it is the origin of a lot of the design issues in the game currently.

I think it was just easier to ignore because the range tax wasn't touching casters and DPS checks weren't as high

Unless something's changed super recently, a dev hasn't come to the English role/general forums in years. Please someone correct me if I'm wrong though.

they're talking to us via their generally tone deaf job change justifications now. that's the best we can hope for now, i think, seeing as how even during live letters they'll just gloss over or ignore problematic stuff. or just give some hilariously ignorant answer.

Agreed. I've played the job since Stormblood and trick being changed was nothing compared to a lot of other big changes we've had in the past. I cared a lot more about losing many of our OGCDs back in the day. NIN plays the same as it did in Shb, it's fine.

Ya hopefully we don't need to deal with another rework at the beginning of another expansion because they don't know how to balance around TA , doing galaxy brains rotations and abysmal damage for the first patch cycle of each expanse . Plus to me Rogue/Ninja have always been high damage dealers and I get more satisfaction now then I every have playing it, after stormblood all TA did was hold NIN back since it lost everything that really made it a support class with the loss of enmity/TP/slash debuffs . I don't have to deal with the dread and annoyance of having to play pitch perfect AND get severely punished for the slightest mistake nowadays. QoL is the best it's ever been

No it's fucked. Trick Attack replaced Shadow Fang and became a personal buff to only the Ninja and the OG Trick attack was changed to Mug and it's CD is one minute longer then it was before and is 5% less effective.

So now instead of 10% increased damage for the party/raid every minute for 15 seconds you only get 5% increased damage for 20 seconds every 2 minutes. That's nerf city buddy.

Trick > Shadow Fang > Assasinate > Dream within a Dream was pretty hype.

I called Shadowbringers on a lot of its crap at the time but people were so wrapped up in the hype that no one wanted to listen. Its the same thing with Endwalker which, in my opinion, was an even bigger step down in terms of both gameplay AND storytelling. The games on a gradual decline at this point but since its the current golden child no one wants to talk about it. Well that and you have a rabid fanbase that tends to react very harshly to anyone with a negative opinion on it.

Perhaps not storytelling, but gameplay? Definitely not an uncommon take. Hell, if you even slightly suggest that Stormblood wasn't the best expansion gameplay wise on any of the XIV related reddits you'd be ripped to shreds.

That's because people are silly. SB wasn't bad, but it wasn't perfect. SB was, for example, the abject worst expansion for WHM out of the game's entire history. INCLUDING 1.0 WHM, btw. SB WHM was that bad. SB was also when Cleric was removed as a stance, so all the old school (HW) Healer lovers would tell you HW was better and all the anti-Cleric people (who hated it) would tell you ShB/EW was better, or that SB was "acceptable", but probably not great.

It's pretty uncommon on storytelling, but as far as gameplay goes, a mixed bag of "alright, but not fantastic, either". And I say this as a person who has long said SB gets a worse rap than it should have.

Trick went from a mild annoyance of gimping everyone's dps when the boss left or adds died to making you furious that YOU lost a significant portion of your dps because the boss/add died/went away. I don't get why trick attack can't be a buff on yourself like Riddle of Fire and has to be this debuff on the enemy. It's really frustrating.

Storytelling definitely not. But I do remember the gameplay in Stormblood feeling more unique and (semi)-balanced. None of this awful two minute meta where I hold onto so many resources. I remember Stormblood having more of a 30 second "mini" burst. If you died not a huge deal because the mini bursts would make up for it (eventually).

Wha?? SB had the best gameplay by faaaar in terms of fun. People just couldn't handle their calculators and now we have this sanded-off... thing. Smooth but ultimately boring.

Reading this is funny to me because I can both agree and disagree with a lot of stuff. Stormblood was my favorite expansion, both gameplay and story wise. XIV in my eyes peaked in that expansion, it's where it had it's highest potential. Since then we've gotten a ton of new QoL features, but the story has been progressively getting worse after the conclusion of 5.0 with the bad retcons in endwalker msq. Then there's the whole focus on 2 minute rotation thing out of nowhere, kaiten murder, literally removing content like the feast and locking frontline maps on a rotation, stating that series rewards could be obtained until the series after next but not actually doing so (only if you actually earned them), ignoring certain feedback but listening to others, and a personal gripe of mine regarding the gearing in this game how it sucks and hasn't been improved. (I personally believe there should be no limits on gearing outside of hardcore raids, i.e. tome gear. If someone wants to no-life the game let them, because the weekly limits are only pushing the ones with no time back anyway, because anyone with the time to play this game weekly will still be weeks ahead.

5.0 should have been a proper expansion focusing on Garlemald and the surrounding zones, Shadowbringers should have been 6.0 and Endwalker after that. I think the devs jumped the gun too soon and everything after SB feels really rushed. Another thought that crossed my mind was that FFXVI is probably taking up most of their attention so the ones actually working on XIV right now are either new blood or the old devs just not caring anymore or burnt out.

If I've learned anything the only way we can communicate is to learn Japanese and invade the JP Forums.
