Upgrade the data center travel so we can go to other regions.

Why? Because there is eff all to do in dead cope data center Materia. I'm almost tempted to just lose my houses just to transfer back to my old data center. The reason why people are transfering out of Materia data center is because:

1. Most SEA players have chosen not to transfer over despite the Square Enix thinking they would, but they have underestimated the dedicated community that has been established in Elemental.

2. Players from Materia can't visit other data centers with their main, and have to make do with an alt, so we simply can't bring our best glamour to other data centers. We can't show off our achievements to other players.

3. OCE skill level is an absolute joke on terms of both PvP and PvE level, and people don't want to deal with the majority of the players over here.

4. Because of how lowly populated the data center is, it's almost impossible to unlock raid content (besides from mandatory crystal tower story) without asking for help from other people to do it unsynced in the duty finder. Duty sync if they're lucky enough to get 24 people.

5. Niche content is so dead. Even casual PvP only has a 9 hour peak time over here. Ranked pvp is dead because the majority of pvp players got their top 100 title, and pissed off for better pastures. Frontlines peak time is just around 2 hours.

6. The domino effect of the disaster. It all stemmed from Square Enix thinking SEA players would transfer over. The moment that idea was a complete failure, people who were enthusiastic about now being in Materia data center have now transferred back, making the state of the data center even worse.

It is the worst it has ever been here and the fact that we don't get to cross data center other regions and be isolated from all the other logical data centers is one of the most stupid business decisions that Square Enix has done. You have left the data center to be doomed. You could of easily fixed this issue by letting people travel to other data centers with their main, but you didn't.

If you're so against having all data centers be connected and you're too scared of the potential consequences where one data center is permanently full cause all players are trying to travel to that data center, then here's a better solution:

Just let Materia data center be part of either NA or JP data centers. Let them join. If you think JP want nothing to do with us, just let us join NA then. There has got to be way to fix this, because you're wasting money on this data center, and if you don't fix what's going on here, you're dealt with a losing hand where you have to delete the data center, and that is going to backfire on you.

We've been doing our best here trying to get new players into older content and there have been discords to help players struggling in OCE. But Square Enix can't keep making us fix the issues ourselves. They have to do something, because players will keep transferring out and I'm going to do the same.

Given that NA has not yet suffered from the "everyone's trying to pile onto one DC" issue, I doubt the "permanently full" thing is an actual going concern with SE (Though to be fair, before DC visit was released, I did wonder if that would happen, i.e., everyone expected to visit one particular DC - most likely Aether - for any serious PF and leaving the PFs in the other two DCs high and dry).

Player culture is an issue however. There is plenty of evidence that combining player pools together into a single mega player pool is not an unmixed blessing: with convenience comes the cost of player culture and playstyle options being de facto lost as the loudest culture among the original groups (typically the hardcore raiding contingent) forcibly reforms the entire combined pool to its liking. This appears to be a game-independent phenomenon (both WoW and FFXIV have suffered for it) but is arguably starker here, chiefly due to the weakness of guilds in XIV compared to most MMOs (a chronic problem which I suspect finds its root in housing, and whose fatal moment was long ago with the introduction of Airships). It is obvious this is a large influence on SE's reluctance to permit cross-region travel (although some pairings of regions are likely compatible, the JP cluster has a significantly different playstyle that would risk annihilation to NA, particularly when top NA raiders have so much pull through moderatorship of major Discords. Partially this is a platform issue with Discord itself, mind you).

Materia being part of NA might be viable, just as OCE and NA are part of the same group in WoW, but do keep in mind ping - as someone who did many late night WoW PUGs which had Aussie leads, I'm painfully aware that the ping between the two is a whopping 200-250ms on a good night, and I'm not quite sure how friendly Endwalker is to such high latency.

Yeah. I'm aware that if Materia were to be part of the NA data center groups, us traveling there to do content over there will burden us with bad ping, but at least we get to play content that we want. Also be aware that you can see from Shibi's butthurt post, he is one of the majority of casual players who would not mind the bad ping. There is a higher ratio of just casual OCE players who don't mind that kind of issue, since Aussie players are more laidback and are not competitive. If Materia players can travel with their main to NA data center to do content, it will be great for them. I don't see ping being an issue when most of them are very casual. They don't even give two damns when they have a history of bottom damaging in every pvp match. They simply don't care, they just want to play more content. So I don't see ping being an issue. People who hardcore raid while being in Materia, are just going to raid with their static in Materia with good ping. Letting us join NA players at least gives us a choice on how we engage with our content. Like if we want to do Eureka, but its dead over here? Fine we'll just hop over to NA to do Eureka over there with bad ping, but at least we can get stuff done.

But yes, I do agree with you that it's slightly risky for OCE culture to conflict with NA culture, but I don't think it will be a big deal given how low our playerbase is and that I'm sure they will adjust well to NA players. Also, I think you've guys got plenty of horror stories from the duty finder that having a bad player in your instance should be the norm by now.

As a NA person with a character on Materia it is FAR worse than 200-250 for me. On a good night I get 400 one way and 4000 the other. It is legitimately more than I can cope with and as soon as the new NA DC opens my character will be moving there.

It would only work if they didn't allow people to visit the Japanese DCs, I think. I've heard that they're pretty much against visitors and they have a much different culture and way of doing things from what I've heard.

But yes, hope SE finds a solution to the lack of player count in OCE.

Kinda reminds me how, if tomes got split into roles, no one would find enough time to run sidecontent or old raids.

- A couple days back when I had a look there were 21 Savage groups in PF, is this ALWAYS the case? No, but you'll find 5-10 of the latest tier Savage groups basically 24/7 and 20ish each night for 2-3 nights each reset.
- DF & roulettes pop within 5-10 mins for pretty much all content at peak hour, you'll only have problems trying to do some random Stormblood Raid at like 5am and maybe some of the HW/SB alliance raids.
- Bozja & Coils raids don't exist on any server, Materia or not
- Market boards are not super packed but are pretty fluid and have everything you need.
- Hunts are 200+ people on Tuesday/Weds and 40+ the rest of the week and S-ranks are spawned non-stop all day
- Eureka and Bozja have plenty of groups except in the wee hours of the morning.
- PVP is a bit so-so: Crystalline Conflict pops in under 5 mins at peak and under 10 offpeak. Frontline is a bit sketchy, OCE players don't seem to do it much.

Does the above apply constantly all day 365 days a year? No, but it's pretty consistently true. Are you actually doing general content or are you queuing for some super obscure content at maximum-offpeak?

To anyone basing world pop on login queues, please go have a look at how they work, its a funnel that lets 2 people in per x seconds, there was a post about how it worked back on Endwalker launch when server queues broke the game.

Check out XIVcensus website for population data. The entirety of endgame characters (level 90 in any job) is equal to one server on any other datacenter. Not a datacenter, ONE SERVER. And that's including all the inactive accounts.

In total its around 14k players.

OCE either needs to be paired with another region or it's just dead and everyone should move and force SQE's hand in the matter.

I can comment on this as an NA player (located in EST) who recently went back to OCE to check out the situation in the present. Ping is a non-issue to me, the only times I've had lag were from internet issues on my end (yay extender problems) and I've done several Endwalker trials. Still end up being able to avoid all mechs and do the same damage I would be doing on NA.

It's grim. It's really grim.

There is about a 2 hour window you can get things done in. If you play outside those hours, you just can't do anything.

When SE announced the OCE datacentre and also said they had the capability to have regional travel, we thought for sure they would open it up. Even if it was just to NA. Not only have they decided not to, OCE has never been mentioned again. Nothing in live letters, no advertising, it's just...been left to rot. And it's rotting :(

We've had several raid groups come back to Behemoth again. People don't want to leave, we enjoy the community but the truth is no one can play the game. There's just not enough people. And quite literally everyone saw this coming. We all knew.

I hope SE moves on this sooner than later :( But considering the OCE datacentre seems to exist only to relieve Japanese of their gaijin on Tonberry problem, I don't think we're high on the list of things they care about.

OCE should be closed down and resources move to somewhere else .... maybe helping with region travel option.

After 1 year playing on EU it feels like graveyard just like people joke about OCE, i wish for data center travel so i could play in NA.....

Everyone has to learn to play nice with each other before that'll happen. And I mean everyone. As far as Square is concerned we'll all just ruin each other's DCs.

Part of the problem is that people so incensed by the queue times have moved their characters back. They have the right to do so, but it won't fix the problem.

Personally, I started a new character and now that character has even more levels and jobs than my main does. I try to help out as much as I can with people's Party Finders. If I could do more to help people get their duties done, I would. I am just disappointed that people didn't want to try and support SE in supporting us with a local data centre.

Angry isn't even close to what I'm feeling for you. You just made me feel very uncomfortable the way you blindly defend SE while turning a blind eye to the issues that's going on in your own data center. This is exactly why people have complained about FFXIV players having toxic positivity when the players who do complain just want the developers to make the right decisions so that their experience is better in the game. Materia data center is absolutely miserable state right now for players that do try to engage in a lot of content, but I'm holding onto it because I'm hoping something gets done by very early 2023.

To be fair, SE probably just didn't know what would happen. But now that we can see what is happening it looks like cross-DC travel would help.

I dont understand why you bring this as counter point of doing this? Am i not be able to adjust to NA you know ENGLISH speaking community? We got DC travel and i think no one cares if someone buys something from other DC marketboard..... The only SE does is ruining my (and there are many eu players like me who wished they played on better DCs) experience.

The number you actually see is a queue to get into queue for free space (people get into server in chunks), this is literally a system they have to prevent servers crashing from being overflown with logging people.

But yes i can argue that this is FAKE queue, even if server is half full you will be placed into this 5-30 people number thingy just because system is slow and w/e it has terrible settings to adjust on fly and let people login immediatly. Like 3 months prior endwalker, when Light DC was dead i constantly had this silly fake small people queues ....

It was literally talked about in lodestone posts long ago aswell, i think around endwalker launch and some dcs crashes/queue issues.

They really need to open DC-travel for Materia's sake.

Considering what japanese players did to twitch streamers that used silly mods that will get later added into the game i do not want to hear about these obsessive SE white knights or even log on onto their server.

Would be great if NA to EU travel becomes a thing while JP hardlocked in their own mess, keep JP toxicity and elitism away.

The DC travel thread on their side of the forums now has posts requesting the removal of DC travel from the game, because of the dislike that all the raiders are traveling and stacking onto one of their DC's and causing massive login queues, while their newest DC is completely emptied out and a ghost town

I still strongly think that EU/Materia/NA should be linked, but can it be done as a three way join? There are voices on the Japanese side that are strongly against their login queues being made longer.

The DC travel thread on their side of the forums now has posts requesting the removal of DC travel from the game, because of the dislike that all the raiders are traveling and stacking onto one of their DC's and causing massive login queues, while their newest DC is completely emptied out and a ghost town

I still strongly think that EU/Materia/NA should be linked, but can it be done as a three way join? There are voices on the Japanese side that are strongly against their login queues being made longer.

I suppose we could have cross-region travel to everywhere except JP and have DC travel disabled entirely for JP if that's what they want.

I don't think JP would need to fear cross region travel because of the language differences. Given a choice, few players are going to want to play in a region where most players aren't speaking their language. The traffic would be much heavier between NA/EU/OCE. If anything, it might ease some of their problem with JP raiders coming to NA to be part of the NA raiding scene since they're more like to at least understand English even if they're not directly able to converse in it.

I giggle at their complaints about log in queues considering their largest population world is still smaller than the smallest NA world - and that largest population world is much bigger than the majority of JP worlds.

Indeed. Before we open more of the (desperately few) remaining barriers between player sub-groups in game, we really have to work on this co-existing thing. A lot.

The only thing is I'm not even sure how to go about that, or if, in fact, the terrible truth is that despite friendly discussions here on the OF, the XIV community is in fact past practical redemption and we just have to accept that top raiders do control the direction now and their big Discords are the permanent community, and since their moderators consider any open opposition to that culture to be trolling, the choice is to like them or play another game altogether (or just play XIV as a solo game, but it's probably only a matter of time if that trend is allowed to continue, especially given the kind of salt you see on reddit, till just not being good enough for "the community" is grounds for reporting on the grounds that queuing with inadequate skill constitutes "hindering" under the TOS)? :(

Can a community that isn't Discord based even hope to gain traction at this point, because it seems that the way that Discord manages their platform is absolutely inimical to the formation of communities that are both milder-mannered and public, so long as the scorched earth ban policy exists and Discord goes out of their way to ignore attempts to appeal with robotic "you're banned, we looked into it, we're right, goodbye" replies. And creating a new account now pretty much literally means hitting up the store to open a new cellular line every time, so it seems that it's virtually unconscionably risky to attempt to start competition to hardcore fixtures like the Balance on that platform?

Sure, there's other software for almost everything (except for large-scale voice chat, which is still difficult), but will people even consider taking the time to follow a community link that isn't just a Discord invite?

I think most people agree, not seen many people actually say for NA/EU/Materia "it's a bad thing" as much as just argue minor points. I mean, if one person thinks elite raiding is the be all and end all, while another believes the MB is important - both are still for the idea.

But can SE do three out of four?

When you have 4 DCs all travelling to one, that one popular one gets 1800+ queues all the time. Thats what they say. So it's not so much about the sizes of their worlds, but total players on their DC all wanting to play on one. I don't think we see this with Balmung/Mateus.

They're creating their own problem. Why congregate to a single world/data center when they were fine on their home data centers before data center travel? I can almost understand the new data center being empty but you would think its players were spreading out between the other 3, going back to their original data center.

If nothing else, it sounds like SE needs to be managing congestion better. Suspend incoming travel to the congested data center except for players returning to their home worlds. Allow data center travel from that data center to allow Travelers to get back to their home data center. Supposedly there was going to be something in place that allowed players to return to their home worlds during times of congestion.

Also, return characters to their home worlds/data centers if they are logged out for more than 10 minutes. They have to be logged out to travel between data centers already, they're forced to return to home world before going elsewhere, and 10 minutes is going to be more than enough time for someone who was disconnected to log back in (assuming it wasn't caused by a server crash). That's going to reduce log in congestion during prime time when everyone starts logging back in.

I had a mist 35 large and i deco it really professional. I was one of the top spawner for s rank. Honeymoon period were fun. But after some months I realise off peak is difficult to get thing done. Pf weren’t as many. I made the decision to demo my mist 35 and left for balmung.

Now I seen so many peoples & getting thing popped were better. 110 pf on their peak times since I play morning on rest day.

I wouldn’t have left if SE allow dc travel for OCE.

I agree and I think this is needed. I'm one of the Elemental players who didn't move, or rather I did move and immediately went back due to friends not wanting to leave and abandon their Elemental communities. Now I have irl friends on OCE, JP and NA and it's definitely splitting up the oce players across multiple data centers, the issue is we cannot visit one another. If we did have DC travel then I'd absolutely be on Materia just for the ping. I'd happily move to Materia knowing I can still play with my friends and I won't be isolating myself. Even being on Elemental, I have friends on NA and I need an alt just to be able to play with them. Locking worlds and data centers is a pretty archaic online game system these days, and I'd love to see sqenix alleviate this entirely. Hopium.

If they made it so could travel to JP datacenter, I would definitely use it since started the game on a JP datacenter.

Bump because honestly it’s so bad, and people are just moving away rather than players moving here. They need to do a really big campaign/incentive to get OCE players to move to the Data Center.

Honestly what I think they should have done from the beginning is put the datacentre in Singapore rather than Sydney (this coming from an Australian). This would have encouraged more of the players in SEA to move across to Materia.

As nice as low ping is, without a sufficiently large community the servers feel dead (mainly when attempting to use duty finder for example you can have 5-10 minute tank queues in the evening AEST, when I was on Behemoth in the past this would have been impossible.

Unless there are more incentives for players to remain on Materia it will just continue to bleed players until it becomes dead and the situation returns to what it was before Materia was created (overpopulated NA + JP DC)

As others have said we need data center travel and ideally some form of way to connect via duty finder to other DC's (happy to take the bad ping in order to get fast queues but it should be a toggle option).
