Imagine if a very reserved, professional and usually reasonable team of Dev that are SE japan, that barely ever communicates about the scale of an issue or being forced to by the odds (like how bad was ARR 1.0) have to write this, have to write this, in a new announcement, forced to recognize that it not only happens, but often, this is only possible because even them, have played around our servers and experienced how BAD it has become. If they have to write it, you know the scale of the issue is such that they have to recognize it.

Go on, continue with the "It's all in your imagination bro" when even they have to come to terms with it. But nununu, of course, it's aaaaaall in your imagination, they don't shit up the pfinder weeks in and weeks out with fake ilvl 615 reclears tuesday to tuesday, with the same EXACT names posting these pfinders all the time, all the week, magically clearing with their inner groups of streamer discord dwellers a few hours before reset, but shitting up the pfinder all the rest of the week, all the rest of the week they hop on from parties to parties to make sure clear doesn't happen for a lot of normal players (because the names of those who make these pfinders on the EU servers, are easily found on a lot of streamer's background characters surrounding said streamers and even often teaming up with them for savages, one just has to notice and write them down and suddenly have an "epiphany" moment to realize how it works) trapping normal players and gaslighting them into extremely aggressive predatory neuromarketing ploys engaging at 2 to 3 and sometimes more players in such parties into piling on someone they purposefully place snapshots and mechanics ontop of said player, then accusing them, to the point of making some players doubting themselves and looking then for these services (very common known aggressive cybersale / sale practices based on trying to make a person feel they need it, it's been around for a decade and developed by psychologists too) extending even from savages to sometimes extremes, and it's in your imagination that they absolutely don't reserve full wards of housing under the same name of fc / guilds, and alts. Of very course.

Another very obvious telltale, is that these sellers of clears very often boast about themselves being part of top 3 to top 10 week 1 clears on these alternative websites.

Go on, i dare you to try to make SE japan admit and realize something happens in the first place, even less of a chance for them to admit it happens often.

Mmm just like Eureka RMT bots that they ignore for years.

Hundreds of Billions of RMT gil farmed and they dont even bat an eyelid.

Looking at past behaviour of overlooking extreme aspects of it and the repeated nature of some of it's most obvious, data wise, scale of gil cyclingthrough and around, that should be easily gathered, that couldn't be ignored hence one poster above and many other examples of this, i don't absolve them into "laissez faire" / letting it go and do of privilege assorted to some GM's and some individuals on the West side as "part of the job" , as it often is discovered after a while, that in the west, that kind of corruption in inner group of friends is not only alive but has become a business model, it's a lazy shitfest of "tradition" of leeches in our countries, into itself feeding it's own machine, many other games / mmo can attest to that "tradition" in western games for scandals discovered way after the fact. Just another PR statement. Unless gms will fly around world/eureka instances and start manually ban bots nothing will change. Bot sub > real human sub as usual

I truely don't care about the vocal minority of RMT apologists/defenders on these forums that need to get a real job, these topics make more views from normal / legit players that are now aware of it's scale and the more they know the better they don't fall into these traps and maybe stop feeding this machine, because let's be honest, savages aren't the hardest raid content there is in any game, they are pretty much a dance dance R of muscle memory after a few weeks of doing them. These Rmt communities are just as aggressive as they feel their side pocket money threatened, a tad less so on the forums then they are in game tho.

I did notice that they FINALLY got rid of those fishing bots in Mare Lamentorum, so they do seem to actually be making tangible progress at last.

I feel motivated to try getting them to do something about the marketboard bots again.

I don't even care about ythe RMT anymore. The damage is already to far done. Housing prices ruined by RMT, market board bots, Eureka, everything is so ruined it cant be restored. Its to late now

The fact that they think run selling is a large or relevant part of the RMT market pretty strongly indicates Katt legitimately has no idea what they are talking about.

Runselling is extremely smallfry as far as RMT goes, and a totally ineffective way to make money for large RMT companies. It's something that is done by small groups of players who have neither the time nor the resources to 'misery farm' by griefing PF.

PF sucks because there are a lot of bad players, Katt among them. They got rejected from a static back in Ashphodelos for having unviably low DPS, and have been on some kind of weird warpath ever since. Katt, you are the common denominator of the parties you join.

Squeenix has had problems with RMT since the days of FFXI. They did nothing.

Player run linkshells tried to stop known RMT shells from interfering with players. Squeenix banned the players.

This is just another step in a long line of BS responses to RMT that do more damage to the players than the RMT.

I'm not even sure which side Squeenix is on.

Well, that latest ban report has 24 accounts terminated for botting which is genuinely exceptional compared to the norm.

Whether or not it actually continues going forward is what I'm curious to see.

Question is…..WHY is it so easy to have bots around in this game? Can’t they change something that makes it harder for bots to exist in the first place? Instead of having to go around reporting, just cut them at the source.

Pretty sure every video game company in the world wish they knew the answer to this. Bot makers are very crafty. You think you fix the problem and they just find another exploit.

There are some things companies have tried in order to stop RMT, such as disabling all trading and selling of items, but it ultimately hurts the legit players the most.

Hm yes of course, I guess Im asking because I only played one other mmo before which was eso (years ago) and bots weren’t really a topic so I wonder what did they do differently?

The bolded part confuses me. RMT has no influence over housing prices. Those are set by the developers and are actually less than they were when housing was first introduced. Purchase of housing with the intent to resell is prohibited under the ToS so there is no legitimate player influenced market price.

As for the rest, yes RMT has had some serious effects. But damaged things can be repaired if you remove what's causing the damage. We need to get rid of those who do business with RMT so RMT goes out of business.

Cutting them off at the source would cut off real players at the source as well.

That's why the gaming industry has such problems with bot activity. They have to find the pieces of code that would only affect the bots and not players. Then the bot programmers turn around and find new ways to get their bots to operate and the cycle repeats. Do something to counter bot/RMT activity that also affects players (like end the gifting of popular items) and the player base gets angry.

Botting and RMT will continue to exist as long as there are players who want to cheat the game systems. If you want to get rid of the bots and RMT, then get rid of the cheaters who rely on them. Bots and RMT will disappear when they don't have any customers.

Sorry should have written it correctly, the mmo I meant was the elder scrolls online, but please mind this was about six years ago on playstation EU and back then there was no cross-platform (I don’t know if there is now).

I have no idea how things are now but back then I don’t think I ever passed by bots and if I did, it certainly wasn’t the size of the eureka bunny fate farm so I probably didn’t notice it in the first place.

I did just make a quick google and people seem to be complaining about bots on PS NA servers it seems, I honestly had no idea you could even have bots on playstation.

And I can’t tell what they did differently back then to prevent bots, the only thing I know now is that since a while they implemented crown store gifting and real money trading is a very common occurrence in eso as well. Before people used to pay for dungeon carries through paypal and what not but that was the extent of the rumours Id hear, bots farming and destroying the market wasn’t really a topic.

Don't forget that most bot accounts are stolen with the original CC still attached so if the account is banned, the RMT people are out nothing except someones account. Not even the gil really since they probably transfer it to a holding account each day.

This is why I'm confused as how the phishing scams are able to be as successful as they are, because logic would dictate they have to be pooling all of the stolen gil somewhere and the fact that they use the phished accounts to perpetuate the scam provides a common thread that can be followed.

Never played the game but a 5 second google search gave bunch of ESO forums that had messages from 2021 and 2022 complaining that people bot and nothing is done about it :p I guess its all about not every player encountering them in normal play

With the gil cap being only a billion, they probably have thousands of accounts spread over all servers and data centers to hold it all. I don't doubt that some of them get banned judging by what's posted weekly on the lodestone, but it's like pulling a few weeds out of your garden and hoping the rest go away. WoW had a good idea with RMT bots. If you reported one, you never saw anything they posted from then. Unfortunately, that personal shadow ban only lasted for your current login session, and sometimes you had to report up to 30 of them to make them all disappear. Reporting them should make them disappear for at least 30 days, bu which time they've probably been banned and come back with new names.

Ideally, SE should shadow ban them based on text in their messages, like their site URL's which never change.

SE also does that here. I'll frequently come across obvious RMT ad bots near the main Aetherytes that are totally silent.

The problem is that the people creating the ad messages will switch the text to avoid the automatic detection. When that happens, SE needs players to report them then they need to add the new textstrings to their detection programming.

It's a neverending battle.
