If we get ten more years of final fantasy xiv expansions...

What do you think the devs will do in terms of progression?

We already hit 90...will we just go to level 100 next expansion? Me personally, I wouldn't mind if they try something new, have us all start level 1 again like in Eureka, but start with new gameplay mechanics/battle system changes etc from there.

Only speculation but I've a feeling we are either heading back to the 1st or perhaps another world. Cat lady seems determined to figure out things about that so perhaps that might be the direction we are heading. As for levels...yeah they will probably raise the cap to 100. I just hope it's not more new abilities...just new traits to make old abilities work differently.

I'd like XIV to enter a FFXI "75 era" of horizontal expansion. Rather than add new levels and stats, I'd rather that "power" be put into expansion-specific "levels." This way, you could get through 6.0 as a "tutorial," then pick and choose any adventure expansion you'd like. You might have full power in 8.0 and be ready for harder content there, but still need to complete the adventure for 7.0 to see its "endgame" content.

It might be time to look into giving battle system changes a "final pass" as well, so the jobs aren't thrown into pure chaos every expansion. Balance and adjustments can still come through, but tacking on 10 levels of vertical powergain is starting to translate into silly rotations both at the low levels and high levels.

Gear? I'm leaning to an end of ilvl with 6.5, but our itemization might be too boring to really do horizontal gear well. That might be something that would need to move to the expansion-specific power gain, or maybe the way we do stats needs to change completely. Perhaps set a final ilvl tier at 6.5, then start offering a higher ilvl for endgame content at that point. Future expansions would start at the 6.5 ilvl, but offer sidegrades to the endgame-ilvl gear. (Maybe you'd want a ring from an extreme in 7.0 but an earring from savage in 8.0. As a result, you'd need to clear both expansions to get your 'bis.')

I rather we explore the entirety of Etheirys rather than delve into the First again or any other shards although I'm also curious to know about the other civilizations in those shards. Emet-Selch did point out to that out.

But yeah at least with 7.0, I'm seriously hoping we get to explore Meracydia.

I actually suspect a FFXI style Merit Point/Job Point system is probably what SE will end up resorting to eventually, because once level 99/100 is reached, what do they do then? Traditionally no FF game goes beyond 100 (99 is generally the extreme level cap, including FFXI), although given the stat squish with EW's release to try and reign in point and stat levels that were getting out of hand, maybe SE are looking at shaking things up and exceeding that (arbitary but traditional) limit? We'll see in a few years in any event.

I feel like this is more plausible as the direction the story will take for 7.0. It kind of seems like the stuff involving the Thirteenth will be resolved before 7.0 and it will ultimately set up the reason we'll need to head to Meracydia. Based on how quickly the four fiends story appears to be rapping up, I don't think it'll be long before we get to take on Golbez. Just a gut feeling.

Yoshida has spoken about leveling and yes, it'll be 100. He likes the number rising, has stated so a few times in the past specifically when asked if we'd stop at 99 to follow series traditions. His answer was that we would go beyond 100.

FWIW they have stated this is the first void episode and that the void arc will continue for years to come. This is just the first part. The way you should look at the fiends is that this is our trial series given an MSQ budget and precedent. We're not in the new story arc yet, this is just a side story that took the place of both MSQ and 6.X's trial series.

This has been confirmed by Yoshida as he's said 6.X will be a slow burn with a specific "event" happening in 6.5X that reveal the actual destination and goal of the upcoming story arc. He's stated that what occurs in 6.5X will change the direction of the story, permanently. So I wouldn't be so sure we're going to Meracydia with that kind of language being used.

It's just a number, there's nothing special about 99 or 100, so why does it have to stop there? This game isn't really built around horizontal progression with it's boring stats and lack of job customization, it's built around you getting stronger and stronger to handle enemies with higher and higher stats. The only reason we had a stat squish was because of the upper limit on the integers they were using, but there's ways to fix that.

Not all FF games have a level 99 cap, either. FF10 and FF13 had no levels, and FF15 has a level cap of 120.

Someone doesn't pay attention to XIV's news media it seems—we're entering the next ten year plan and Yoshida said he has another ten years he has planned after that.
These things were stated during the Future of FFXIV Live Stream from February 2022, they aren't making another MMO anytime soon and just plan continued expansion support for XIV.

They even went so far as calling the 7.0 graphics update the first graphics update, implying they plan to have another in the future.

They might go to 99 for the lul's in next expansion, but I see them just doing a level squish after that and bringing everyone back down to 50. It kinda needs to happen anyways with the potency creep we've been having.

Given how many "empty" levels there are with no new skills or passives attached to them, I could see them reasonably squishing things down a lot going into the future.

I really hope we go far beyond level 100, I've said this in another thread but I've always found super high numbers attatched to my character incredibly sexy

I can't stand it. Fortunately in this game you only need one character, but in WoW leveling alts became a chore and SWTOR is getting there as well to the point I pretty much only take alts through the original 3 chapters and basically abandon them at level 50.

I hope one way or another, they will finally find a way to improve housing and glamor system to be more enjoyable. These two have so much potentials, but are gated behind by design choices and spaghetti coding.

That and character customization. This game is so incredibly limited in that aspect. 1 in 4 people look the exact same.
Most people i know have met their clones in the game, be it other players or characters.

I think you're confusing this game with FFXI where players were literally limited to hairstyle, facial model, height/body mass/skin tone and hair colour (there was no hair or skin colour pallete choice, only six hairstyles with a single alternative colour, choice of hairstyle was locked to facial model, each race and gender had it's own unique hairstyles not available to any other race etc etc).

Sure FFXIV might not have extremely detailed customization but it's still lightyears ahead of FFXI, so if anyone meets "their clone" in another player's character, that's not a limitation of the game's character creation, that's simply lazy players lacking imagination and creativity (too many Link cosplayers for one). And SE can't fix that I'm afraid.

I honestly can almost never distinguish players by looks alone unless they're using a very distinctive glam set-up and/or an unconventional skin tone/hair color combo.

Even just looking at people's avatars on the forums there's a very obvious preference for the "natural" tones in the latter regard.

For shame. Worried that your players are filling up a leveling bar too fast? Just add a new bar with a different level~!
They already have the system in place ala Bozja ranks and Eureka levels. It would not be hard at all!

I'm kind of hoping for a completely new arc starting in 7.0, with an alternate intro for maybe 1-20 and a level-scaled MSQ thereafter with no requirement that every player go through ARR to Endwalker to reach 7.0's endgame (though it'd be useful for alt-leveling, etc.). Player levels would probably be squished down to 50 and then some build choice involved over the level cap extensions thereafter, as opposed to the classically bloated 2 actives and 3 passives (or what will later be sensibly reduced to passives, as per BotD or Enochian), as we increase from there in increments of 5 or 10, depending on the number of expansions to go before XIV's grave.

* Ideally, I'd like that build choice to flesh out the "all jobs on one character" concept a bit further or maybe even give further purpose for revisiting past content (as a form of horizontal progression).

I love XIV, but it does not have ten years left.

It will obviously run for ten or twenty more years, but the game has nothing left to show us.

I wish for a new race.
But in term of 10 years long run in the future, I personally think it will run its course and there'll be a new FF MMORPG. FFXIV will continue live on like FFXI and maybe there'll be a new dev / new team take the torch from Yoshi-P and his team.
And for Yoshi-P himself, I think he will retire from the producer and work behind the scence instead or maybe he will retire form SQEX and game industry and live his quiet life somewhere

I actualy dont hope about such approach. But i think that the hud itself and all the abilities on it can start to become a problem at some point, and the improvements here could hopefully change up things quite a bit.

I think the only way to more reliably handle this is by giving players the ability of having dynamic hotbars that they can switch themselve without any delays. For example by having buttons to switch hotbars (repeatedly pressing a button to go to the next pr previous bar, or 1 button to go to a specific one). But i guess this is not going to be easily managable for console players.

However, if we have such dynamic hotbars, and for example only have 3 normal bars within easy reach. You could set 1 to toggle between for example a healer stance and fight stance (and as you can change that 10x per second - its client side after all - you can still mix these). And by this can finaly give healers some proper DPS tools as hot bar density should no longer be an issue. As abilities can be placed multiple times on a hotbar, you can always have those abilities on the other bars as well, even if its just for following its timer.
And if there is effectively no limit (lets say you can have 8 of these dynamic sets), you can do quite a lot. Balance wise they might still decide to limit it to just 5 bars worth of abilities (instead of 3). but this should delay the issue for a quite a while.

But i guess storage wise this will add a LOT of data again (each job potentialy having 8 bars). However, if it works, then this opens up a lot of options again and can easily give new features for several expansion.

They already revealed in the Next Ten Years livestream earlier this year that players in 7.0 will have the option to start at 6.1.

Am I the only one comfortable and content if they just continue the status quo? I think most who feel like me are not on the forums or social media. New expansion, new msq, 10 new levels, new dungeons, new allied raid, new raid, etc. Formula works well for me. its comfortable and something I prefer about this game.

I'd be happy if they continued going they way they have been until new content development ends.

I'd say the large majority outside the forums are perfectly fine with the game. The forums isn't even 1% of the total player base.

I don't think the game needs anything revolutionary to continue holding my interest, either.

I'd just like the core gameplay to be touched up in some regards, more/better lasting content that can hold player interest for a prolonged period of time, and more focused MSQs/expansions like HW/ShB that give a singular region the time it needs to develop,

I hope we get Beast Master as a job in 7.0, if not then, then I'll be hoping for it every time a new expansion comes.

I don't care if it's a Tank or DPS, I'd like it to have dual maces.

I hope they do something about all the tech tax they have accumulated. 7.0 will be a good time to deal with at least some of it since they are planning on improving the visuals among other things.

I doubt they are going to make a massive undertakement like reworking the netcode, but it would be amazing to not have to predict things in PvP and instead just reacting to what you see would be enough.

I would personally prefer to see them focus their energy and efforts on polishing and fixing existing systems and jobs, instead of trying to reinvent and revolutionize anything. I will go a step further and say I wish that they would forget any new features for a while and just focus on what they have. More story, more dungeons, etc.

It was commonly just purchasing the expansion and getting to some original release zone. You could work on the "MSQ" of any expansion at the same time. Yeah, that's why I was saying I'd like the shared experience of ARR to Endwalker, but branch off from there. The people that don't care as much about the RPG can buy a skip to post-Endwalker and take their pick of which post-Endwalker expansion from there in the order they'd like -- though the WoL MSQ would provide necessary context to understand what happens in those post-Endwalker expansions.

I don't know if it would be possible with the way our gear is currently set up, but I like the thought of being free of the MSQ ticker to an extent. Progression past Endwalker in this scenario would be sandboxed to each individual expansion, in the way your Eureka progression doesn't have an impact on your Bozja progression.

If carries on way, it is now Id probs won't be here in next 10 years.
I want Lot QOL but think lot stuff I would like would have to be in a new game.

I just want them to take lot more risks and be more creative with everything and not if works stick to same layout or what have you for 10 years.

But yeah, with levels just Reloop and call them ascended levels or something.

I'm not that interested in the next 10 years at all really. I fully respect people who enjoy ff14, but personally I only play this game to raid because there isn't a better alternative. I don't think this is a good game overall anymore. If something better comes along that I can invest into, I'm gone.

Hopes for 7.0
Reworked combat for many things, Healers generally getting more damaging buttons (not so much), Tanks hopefully get more to be separate from one of each other, "120" windows reverted from EW, allowing more job designs for sustained jobs, Adding two jobs likely a Caster and a melee (possible tank Instead depending on if 6 melees is too much). In general I want some "risks" in the design of 7.0 at least stuff that would bring some new life into the game 6.0 somehow played it too safe and messed up a lot of job design with "burst into 120 meta"

Even more in the "future" 8.0
Hopefully if they find better combat for jobs in 7.0 they can expand on the design of that, making it more fresh and interesting, they will likely add A phys ranged and a Tank or melee (depending on whats added in 7.0).

EDIT:
I'll add that I do think the devs will likely address some issues with 6.0 job design and that (hopefully) what we're dealing with right now is only temporarily, I'm not going to be too negative about it right now personally but I do think the community feedback has been strong enough to hopefully get noticed.
