If you can't get a house, you can always get an apartment.
If I have over 16 million gil then I should be able to have access to more than a cube. Period.
This thread is the equivalent of your mom telling you "we've got McDonalds at home" but the McDonalds at home is rice and hotdogs lol
Hey OP, I have a fully decorated apartment already and want a house. Now what?
honestly if you could do gardening in the apartments it be alright but honestly they are just glorified storage sheds for housing items.
Apartments are nice. They do offer some space to decorate nicely.
However, until SE decides to allow housing items to be placed into the ground at-will, removing the annoyance of having to glitch everything through MULTIPLE floors, apartments will never be able to even remotely replace a house.
Money means nothing and it also doesn't give you any special rights!
Atleast it shouldn't.
They'll bring the proper supply one of these days tho and everyone can have a house then! ^^

It's lacking features that others find important. Apartments should not be the only readily available way to get a house when it's missing a portion of features, and we have gil. We've already stated MULTIPLE times across threads why apartments will not be a good enough bandaid until these issues are fixed in my eyes.
This adds so much to the discussion. Nobody's ever mentioned apartments before. Thank you for your illuminating contribution.
I have an apartment. Don't have a house.

"If you're homeless, Just buy a house"
What about FCs that can't get a house?
They'll likely tell you to gather in an inn, settle on a small house (most servers have these in abundance right now due to the uneven ward distribution) or merge with a larger FC that has a medium/large house to reside in. That wouldn't be my take on things, but that's likely what you'll hear.
Small houses are really ok for FCS people! I have one, it works fine. In fact I have not even attempted to enlarge it because the small works :) My 4x subs and 2x airships are maxed and bringing in what I need same as big houses. Get creative with inside deco and lofts if you need space. A FC is a place to gather for activity. chat with comrades: and perhaps craft and garden imo. There is no need for bedrooms. I do however, have a bathroom or it could get nasty hehe.
This comes up often and yet no matter how much we try to explain what it's like to grow them, people still complain about the price.
So out of curiosity, what do you expect the process to grow Thavnairian Onions is, and how much do you think the out of pocket costs will be to do it if you try to shortcut some of the steps?
Current lowest prices on the Crystal Data Center:
Thavnairian Onion - 138k (Brynhildr)
Thavnairian Onion seed - 125k (Goblin and Malboro)
Those aren't crack prices. The crack prices were back when BLU first came out and everyone was using BLU to level up their chocobos fast so they were going for 750k-1 million each. Do a typical 2 hour map party and you'll walk away with enough gil to buy 2-4 onions at the current normal market prices depending on dungeon RNG.
As someone who's grown the onions for personal/FC use on occasion in the past, I highly recommend just buying them off the MB. They're really not worth growing unless you're going to do it long term for profit. It doesn't that take long to earn the gil and you don't need them that frequently unless you're going out of your way to hard grind your chocobo XP.
Also, since you're saying you just hit max rank and can't go farther without the onions, are you aware you can get 2 as quest rewards? The first quest is Landing a Stable Job in Ishgard (the Jeweled Crozier area) (quick and easy, takes less than 5 minutes). The second quest is A Hunter's True Nature in Tailfeather, which is the middle of a side story quest chain that starts with I Wanna Be the Hunter (get from Loupard). Expect an hour to get all the involved quests completed.
What FCs that can't get a house?
Every world has available FC houses at the moment. Even after the ward redistribution on the 10th, FCs won't be in danger of not being able to get a house. If the available houses in wards 1-9 disappear, SE will move some of the other wards back to FC purchase.
If your FC is having a problem winning a lottery at the moment, make certain to wait until the last possible moment to enter and pick a plot with no other entries.
My choco is already max rank. Didn't take long getting him there by doing map runs with FC mates. The Thav Onions were no big issue for me. At anywhere from 130 to 160K per Onion, they were barely a dent in my pocketbook. For me, getting a house was never about gardening. To be honest I don't really care much for gardening in this game (weird because I am a biologist IRL). I want a house simply for more space that would allow me more options for decorating (also less claustrophobic for me). Now, if apartments would be revamped so that we could have larger apartments, I'd just go to a bigger apartment and never take another look at a house.
Let the record show SE has still failed to provide enough HOUSES for their player base yet continues to use said feature as a selling point when it is practically unavailable for the majority of players. Borderline fraud.
Shame on you se, how low budget, talentless and tacky for a multi billion dollar company
You know, there is another possible reason for all of this besides the money. It is entirely possible that the code is so mucked up that the game is too far gone for being able to be modified by anyone inhouse and I've been told on a few occasions that SE is notorious for avoiding bringing in outside help, short of a catastrophe (like 1.0). Now, I'm not saying that this is actually the case. In the absence of any information from SE, however, we have to consider ALL of the possibilities. Right now, we just don't know WHY SE has not addressed this issue in any meaningful way.
If they would just be totally honest as to the reason why this has not been addressed to the playerbase. If it either cannot or they just will not address it satisfactorily, let the people know and tell us the reasons why. Bandaid fixes, and skirting around or just not replying to the issues and questions we all have, makes SE apprear inept and/or uncaring. Don't force your playerbase to come here and make multiple complaints for years, argue with each other or wish in one hand, poop in the other to absolutely no avail. In other words SE. grow a spine.
^This. You can make more gil for the same amount of time and less effort/monitoring growing Voidrake/Lavendar and selling the expensive mats you can trade for compared to onions. Someone in a similar thread posted break down a few days ago and if you watch the mat prices (people are buying these mats to make housing items and they will need a lot of them come the 10th) and trade in for the most expensive ones on the MB the amount of gil is 2-2.5x what you could sell the onions for. Both those can be grown even in pots, no x-breeding required.
Mimilu is making a disingenuous argument. What they really mean is what about the FCs who can't get a med or large. But even that I have doubts since on most servers there are meds available in FC area even now. If your FC hasn't gotten a house at this point it because you refuse to settle for a small (3.5 mil, with a partial refund even if you upgrade later) or you haven't hit the 30 day FC timer yet. There is literally no other reason when you can bid on 100s of small plots in Empy or dozens that have been vacated and left empty in the other wards.
I have a small personal on my main and an apt on my alt on Balmung. I actually like my apt a lot and was able to do a lot with it, because of all the stuff I learned how to do furnishing my house on my main. You can do a lot in an apartment with lofts these days. That said, I would really like to see them increase the item limit by 20-30 items. I'm happy with it, but I would like more clutter/fluff items to place. If SE were to increase the item limit I wouldn't even bother with trying to do Housing Ult (bidding on a plot on Balmung) on my alt.
Actually apartments are running dry too. Nearly all the Ishgard ones are now taken. And they don't seem to be adding more of them despite saying they could based on demand.
The apartment thing is exclusively a Balmung problem due to everyone wanting one for their RP alts (guilty). On any other server the apartment occupancy is maybe 60% full at most. But even with that, there are usually apartments coming up for grabs fairly frequently. It only took me a couple days zone-hopping and checking the housing Discord to get one in Goblet and while I was lamenting how bad the Goblet pillars are to work around 2 popped up in the same Subdivision in Lily Hills so I moved. So they are available, you just have to spend some time to get one, usually the best time is the day after a lottery period ends.
EDIT: lol got beat by < 30 seconds.
There are still going to be 9 wards+subs per housing zone on every server that will be FC only. There are still a lot of small plots available on every server to any FCs that want them (on most servers Empy FC wards are literal ghost towns). I will grant you that months or a year down the road new FCs might have an issue getting housing, but at present it's a non-issue. There are hundreds of FC only plots available at this very moment and while the number is going to be cut in half next Tuesday, there will still be a substantial number of unclaimed plots in FC only wards. The FCs that are holding our for med/large just need to buy a small and then focus on upgrading. It's only a 3.5mil investment and you get a partial refund when you move.
There will still be 9 wards reserved for FCs, which creates a percentage higher than the percentage that have been historically owned by FCs. On Coeurl, those 9 wards still have about 200 available plots and we had little reduction in the number of available FC plots in the last lottery.
It creates enough "breathing room" that it shouldn't any issue in the near future, especially with the new EU worlds coming this week and new NA worlds in August, plus more worlds for both next year.
Of course, that's assuming that more players desperate for a house for personal use don't choose to go the shell FC route over waiting to transfer to one of the new worlds to get a personal.
This is your regular reminder that apartments do not allow you to do the following:
-Place more than 100 items (The smallest item limit, and while you can make it work, if you're going for something cluttered it'll definitely be difficult)
-Use more than one small room
-Share your living space with your friends
-Share placed food with your friends (for a social aspect; this is DIFFERENT from just giving people food items. It FEELS different.)
-Decorate an outdoor space
-Use outdoor decorations
-Intercross gardening plants
---By extension, you are unable to obtain seeds for exclusive crafting materials and onions without going to the Market Board
"B-but, apartments are TECHNICALLY considered Housing! Why aren't you happy with that?" This may be true. This doesn't mean that apartments allow you to have a full housing experience. Everyone knows this. We have said this over and over. I HAVE an apartment. In fact, I even have an FC room as well, and have been lucky enough to decorate an FC house. This is what has shown me that apartments are not a full housing experience and we should not treat them as such. We should expect better when we know SE can deliver better.
Just saying "Apartments are a stepping stone, get one and be happy with what you have!" is a bandaid fix and is a poor mindset to have when we, as players, should be able to experience all content the game has to offer. The fact is the housing system (as a whole) has content that is locked specifically behind owning a house. Island Sanctuary doesn't fix it. Getting an apartment doesn't fix it. Houses should not be prestige content when they are advertised as being a big social part of the game.
I will repeat myself. Houses should not be prestige content when they are advertised as being a big social part of the game.
Even if one server would kill for just an apartment, it doesn't mean apartments are equal to houses, either. They are still incomplete in comparison to the full housing experience that is available and should be available for all players who put in the effort to obtain it, not just those who win a game of chance.
And no, the lottery isn't to blame for housing being RNG; it was RNG when placard clicking was a thing, too. Housing became available at a random time, and if you were clicking at that time, you won. They just made it so that rather than dedicating a full day to it and losing, you have less dedicated time but have to wait several days for your results instead.
