Auction House Idea...BLOW YOUR MIND

Okay maybe not blow your mind...

But remember the AH in FF3/6...when items are present for live bidding. Why don't we have a live bidding house?

I mean live bidding not the mere act of putting it up on a list and post hours for it to be up for sale.

So it should go like this:

All items should be given a rating and the public auction houses broken up by the rating so peeps know which live house to enter and bid.

If you want to put an item up for auction you go to the auction line and wait your turn to approach the NPC and present an item in the auction house. You can see the number of people in the house by the seats filled. (Or make it Special NPC items only)

When a buyer enters the auction house they sit down in a seat. At any time during an auction of an item if they emote raise hand they have made a bid for said item. NPCs may also end up buying and bidding on items. Items may also have a reserve which especially for rare items means the sale will not happen so easily. This could also be a way to introduce rare items into the world that can't be obtained normally by any other means.

I'm a great fan of VI, but no. Not for an MMO. I like the idea, and it sounds good, but I can't see it actually taking off or being something worthwhile of development time/resources.

Hell, anything would be better than what we have now.

WoW/Diablo III style AH would suit me just fine, I don't want none of that blind bidding s*** like in in FFXI though.

/nod .. this is just a standard in every game.. even in f2p from years ago.. So why can't we have it?

Although I love Diablo's, its current "filters" suck dick, trying to find an item good for you when there is 50 pages of them is so tiring. Low ranked items not to bad, it works fine, but when you only have 3 specific filters and they dont support "sets" it becomes annoying at higher rank gear.

I hope they keep the current "see price + history", XI's blind price was OK for some sense, but also very annoying.

I also dont like bidding up to a "time", most people use "buyout" on diablo 3, the bidding is useless lol who wants to wait 3 days to see if they will or wont get their item

No!!!! I started this thread with not having that Auction House. Do not need or want an AH of that sort.

AH as it is now but with seperate listings for +1 and materia'd versions of items is all we need. Only all cities linked properly obviously.

Blind bidding is really the best way to do things. Otherwise you have items being undercut by large amounts like we have present in XIV, which was rarely the case in XI. When you know the amount other people are selling for, you know the amount to put yours up for...Which will almost always be less than theirs. No ones going to buy the more expensive item, so we have everyone bring down the price of items, and youll see say a 50k item bouncing back and forth between 15 and 50k.

If you make it blind, people have no idea if the item was undercut by 5k or not. Most people arent going to just keeping lesser amounts until they finally buy it. Therefore, prices stay pretty stable for most items, and undercutting isnt as large of an issue.

I want a AH like FFXI, I want to pay a set price and get my item strait away, I don't wanna bid and have to wait or risk being outbid.

Do one like Guildwars, its epic.

Its 1 AH, every server/world shares it. Its in your menu, you dont go to a "place", its built into the UI.

Its default page lists popular things, and things you commonly in demand (which i luv) you can view prices, see history and buy.

As its in the UI, you can right click any of your items in your inventory and hit "Sell on AH" and boom window shows up asking how much and it remembers your previous amount so you could just click OK. Super fast.

It also "combines" (bit like XI) where it says Item (Amount)

It might work for a system of selling rare items, but it'd be a bit slow for selling your more day to day items.

For more common items I'd rather see a few NPC merchants. Rather than the multiple ward we have now, have a single instance of it with an NPC merchant in each of the stalls.

Each merchant buy and sells a particular type of good respective of the wards we have currently.

Have each item for sale shown with the current lowest price someone has been willing to sell it for along with other items listed as out of stock.

While we're at it, why don't we also get an official FFXIV boxing glove to punch ourselves in the d**k with, because we are all obviously masochists.

Don't want to bid on and wait for stuff. Just want to buy it and be done with it. The one feature of an AH we really don't need.

Honestly I would like to see an ah similar to FFXI's with a blind bidding system. Only reason for this is because it keeps prices somewhat stable, it's fair to all, and if you wanted to undercut something, it generally wouldn't destroy the items value.

But I would like to see an ebay twist for melded gears, you know a by it now price, a min asking price and such.

Define "fair." Because regardless of AH/MW system, I can do the same thing the next person can. That seems fair to me.

Dear Mr Fear I would like to introduce you to the world of buy out prices.

A buyout price in a modern day "auction house" is a total the seller can set that says if you want this item now you will pay this much. It is a standard feature in games as well.

True it is not a fix all solution but its beneficial for both ends of the transaction when used correctly.

I guess fair isn't the right word but it helps keep things stable. I mean there should be no reason why I gather something and put it up for sale, and in less then an hour it drops by 50% of then value of the item(after me undercutting the lowest seller)

Don't get me wrong, I like the current system, but mainly for gear, particularly melded pieces. For everything else, the system feels like more of a headache to navigate every 5 mins to change my price to the current trend. Not to mention you can't even search for +1 things which further hinders it...

Let's make it an honor system.

We get two rooms right?
You just drop your product in the item room and take how much you think it's worth from the Gil room. Then when you want to 'buy' something you take it from the item room and toss how much Gil you think it's worth in the Gil room.

I have the utmost confidence in the game community that this will work. There is no possibility of anything going wrong with this idea, ever.

But that happened all the time in FFXI too. It has less to do with how items are transfered from player to player and more to do with the supply and demand of a given item.

Not really, in ffxi could put up a stack of items and be fairly certain they will sell by the morning. In ffxiv, when I put up something, the next morning I come back to a hell of a change in price. In the ah system on FFXI price fluctuations were a lot more gradual and less impulsive.

Have you ever sold any hot item like RR hairpins, food, or arrows? That wasn't the case. You had to watch your s**t like a hawk and the moment your name wasn't the last one that sold an item, it meant someone undercut you and you had to relist all your s**t.

i like the Guild Wars 2 auction house system, i hope they almost copy paste it :D

Not really. The big moment when you say things like that was during inflation and deflation, when massive amount of money where entering and leaving the economy. Other than that, you had no idea what other people where listing their items for. You could assume the dropped the price of something by a few gil to get a sale before other people, but all you had was the list of the last 10 sold, so you would base what you put your item up for on that. If you saw 10k,10k,10k,10k,10k,10k,etc chances are, youll but it up for a few gil under 10k. In XIV you can see exactly how much everyone else is putting things up for. You dont have to guess if you should undercut a few gil to get first sael, you know straight up that if the lowest up is 10k, you can put it up for 9k, and people will buy it first.

And then everyone else knows that as well. And then you see the last 20 items sold ranging from 100k to 10k in the past few days, along with prices all over the place being sold.

Blind bidding is just better. Some people cant hold it in their pants and drop it one gil over whos up first, they think by dropping it 10% they will get a sale faster, or something. Blind bidding can help with that, because unless the buyer wants to spend time to save a few gil, they generally will just bid its current price. It exploits the laziness of people. With this...well they can just see they can save 10%, rather than trying to guess it.

This hurts sellers. If you farm a someone common item that everyone will every now and then get a stack off, that will hurt your business. People who randomly cross items like that will undercut, because its just a bonus to them. Crafters who are spamming crafts to level, will undercut because they want their money back ASAP to keep crafting. People who dont use that item to make money (almost everyone selling it) ruin things for people who do.

This is why blind bidding is the best way to handle an AH.

Items that sold fast, like RR hairpins, food and arrows fluctuated heavily in price between weekdays (when there are few buyers) to the weekends (when there are a lot of buyers). The money entering and exiting the game was not significant enough to have major effects over the course of a few days or a week.

Deflation and inflation in the game will happen regardless of whether we use a blind bid, true bid, buyout, bazaars, or whatever. That is a tenet of a free market. What buyout has over blind bid is that both as a seller and as a buyer, I have to do less guesswork or homework when I want to use the market. Neither of them provide any protection against supply/demand fluctuations or against overall inflation/deflation.

I love the idea OP (I've proposed it myself as well) It wouldn't necessarily need to be player-sold items either - It would sell a variety of server-generated items, all of different values and rarities, and would be running non-stop.

A player who wanted to sell via the Action House could buy a slot for a fee (15k maybe), and then their item would show up for others to bid on, with the profits or item going back to the player depending on if it sold.

As a player, I would love fun to sit there an watch for crazy deals to come up on anything from a stack of Ice Crystals to a Fire Materia III, to a pair of double-melded Darksteel Gauntlets

Right, but you never saw the variation you see in XIV.

If this was the real world, hell yeah, I would be against blind bidding, the problem here this isnt the real world. Everyone is a seller. Everyone is a business. When you hurt people selling things in MMOs, you hurt everyone playing the game. Stable prices will help you more than hurt you.

People dont do what they do now. You rarely saw items being cut for 20k less than they are worth. Things that are overly abundant like RR hairpins, oils and powders, food, etc did see lots of variance in price, but thats because these items where so cheap to begin with. Yes, it was common to see those going for say 10k a stack on Thursday, going for 7k a stack by Saturday. Thats because those items where already a decently flooded market, and then when you have more people available to craft those items on the weekend, you flood it even further.

Thats not what we are seeing in XIV. What we are seeing is armor pieces that are going anywhere from 20k to 100k, and its not because there is hundreds of them up. When there is only say 3 of those pieces up, you see the undercutting to be very minor, but once you start having 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10+ up, people start drastically undercutting these items, driving the price down to near free. Sure, in XI you would have seen items drop a few thousand when a decent amount of the items starting going up, but never these drastic changes.

Blind is better. Sure, this current model saves you a few seconds of checking of how low you can get something for, but its also going to hurt you when trying to sell things. When you have to actually test prices to see how low you can get something for, people are more unlikely to try getting things for cheaper. The current model only helps people who dont care about trying to earn money, or buy it (not claiming anyone here is either of those people). Blind helps everyone.

That just didn't happen in FFXI. Crafting was tedious and dicy, because generally only HQ items were any good or the ones with rare NM drop ingredients.

What you're describing to me is still market factors that are not influenced by the method that players trade with each other. Items in FFXIV are extremely easy to obtain compared to the server population we have now, and with our top heavy userbase (meaning, almost everyone is at end game now), everyone is more or less farming the same items.

Take a look at low to mid level items. Prices are more stable there, and the items themselves are more profitable to farm in some cases.

Again, the way in which players trade with each other has nothing to do with price fluctuations and inflation/deflation.

Inflation and deflation is another topic all together, Im not talking about any of that. Im talking about instability in the market.

I would actually argue the items few people are using, are the most unstable. Im not at endgame, but looking through the armor lists, the end game armors are more stable. NM drops, and items used to level crafting have been the most out of whack thing Ive ever seen. The prices are literally all over the place. This is because you get people who just walk through an area, kill an NM, and then see it goes for 100k, and then go "Ill just put it up for 70k, I dont care, its more money than I had before" and then everyone else does that, and then next thing you know the item is 5k.

This. Did. Not. Happen. In. FFXI. At all. People didnt try and compete as hard, because you couldnt see the exact amount something was up for. You assumed the lowest undercut was about the price the item was going for, you had no evidence to support that the item was undercut 20k less than its going for, when the last 10 sales are all 100k. People now undercut in an attempt to stop other people from going lower than their sale, and to make sure theirs sells first, however, everyone just undercuts the item to next to nothing anyways.

Why do you want this system like this? Do you not sell things on the AH at all? You want to put something up, and then have it sit there for days because everyone else is beating your price? You want to constantly observe, and then readjust the price on your items? You want to put more effort into selling an item, just so youll end up making many times less money than you would have if it was just blind?

I honestly don't think you played FFXI at all or you have your rosy nostalgia glasses on, because there is nothing that the blind bid system did for people. The smart buyers, meaning basically everyone, wouldn't bid "just under the selling price", they would start the bid at like 50% or 75% the item's price and go up.

There is zero advantage that the blind bid system provided for those that were savvy. It only proved to be a pointless waste of time for people looking to get the most out of AH, and a way for smarter sellers to occasionally be the first whose item sold. Prices crashed and fluctuated all the time, especially since RMT could manipulate the history, or if ingredient items for rare items became commonplace (hint: Igqira Cuirass or whatever it was).

I can list half a dozen MMOs where a buyout system works fine, with minor variation in day-to-day prices for items, because they're games where the devs spent some time actually looking at the rate that items and money enter and leave the economy.

But no. I'm sure FFXI's blind bid system was so awesome, every other development firm just shat their pants since its unveiling, and have been committing design suicide ever since because they couldn't handle the fact that they weren't the first to think it up.

We have this already, the only problem is we're forced to move to another area to do it (you used to be able to search for and buy stuff @ the entrance, but I guess they made us go inside to ease ul'dah server load)

I don't understand why people keep tlaking about an alleged auction house coming when we already have one. Honestly, almost every flaw int he markets has been ironed out. They have all the features of an AH that you would want (I suppose the UI is still rather slow). You don't even have to go to the wards to set up your retainer anymore. Beyond the slight inconvinence of having to go to the mercantile house (which is a temporary solution for the current version as far as I understanding), I don't even see the difference between what we have and an FFXI type auction house (not the WoW type one).

I like the idea, it could be restricted to certain items only: very rare items, unique/exclusive items, past event items, etc.

As amusing as a real-life style auction could be, I really don't see anybody lining up to participate in it. You wouldn't even need to restrict it to certain items, its very nature would limit its use to exorbitant items.
