6.15 patch, still no Kaiten revert

None asked for this change, it didn't fix anything, it didn't address button bloat effectively, it didn't address APM issues, it just dumbed down the job massively to potentially make the devs jobs easier when they have to design new things 2 years from now. The Endwalker Meikyo Shisui changes already made the job way easier for anyone to pick up, why force it even harder? Was it to make the job better for DSR or something, was is because of that they released this scuffed kit? And to add insult to injury, the crit changes please nearly none. It is just an awful, awful idea on all accounts and hundreds of forum posts protesting against it should be enough to warrant a revert.

I know adjusting the potency of every single SAM action to account for the removal of such an important ability must have been a real pain in the arse and surely required a bunch of costly internal testing but turns out none who played the job past level 52 likes having a Hissatsu:Shinten gauge over a Kenki gauge.

I know devs listened to feedback before when they reverted the Hagakure removal, and it's not too late to do the same for Shinten. Do it already.

Don't expect anything until a major patch. Don't expect job gameplay changes until 6.2.
Small patch are programmed in advance and can only be slightly tweaked like in PvP.

If you just throw Kaiten on current SAM, the job would be incredibly broken. Therefore they need to rebalance the whole job.

Of course don't stop providing feedback until confirmation, but don't expect major job changes in a small patch only meant to enable content.

Its kinda clear that it was for this. Still didnt changed fact that sam is not great in any ultimate. Viable? There are tons of melee players and people would rather find nin (because you cant dp sam) or monk (because its literally sam but with mantra and you can dp him too) or drg (because you have nin or monk already).

Even a complete revert needs proper testing.
On top of that, I truly doubt they will remove the autocrit. I think it' more likely they balance the crit buffs to provide crit damage or something in this area.
The auto crit was meant to reduce the DPS gap between lucky and unlucky SAMs, I'm sure they want to keep this idea.

What proper testing do you want from developers that do significant change to class right before ultimate release and blatanlty lie that someone cried about something non existing (apm lol)? And also you can play with dps gap by adjusting potencies of every skill in rotation, devs dig themselfs into lets put 3k+ potencies into every 2 minute skill and they have ability to fix it if they care (not only on sam).

The thing that they add auto crits to pure dps class just shows how lazy and competent devs are. Not only this, again they force 2 minute buffs meta yet make pure dps class to not work with 4 classes in this meta. Kinda crazy to see this from "main class machinist" but i guess you are troll (with a fast check yes you are^^).

Autocrits are fucking stupid. Bring back Kaiten and the damage variance. I'd rather get unlucky than be bored.

I do hope they do away with the crit changes as well because I'd take some variance over sanitized low crits that dont feel good to hit. Like really 40k? Even tanks crit harder than that

Devs can easily do this, i bet kaiten was not removed from game only disabled for players and other stuff is literally 1) change damage number 2) change "base crit chance = 1.00" to "base crit chance = 0.00" or if they have more complex programming "always crit = True" to "always crit = False".

The fact that they do pvp changes on fly (with even yoshi p getting stomped in pvp and buffing blm) proves my point that they can do that but its just "they know better".

What's truly annoying is how BLM got buffed in PvP, community memed about it and Yoshida made a letter to the community within the same week.
However, they can make PvP changes on the fly without problems since it's not designed to be excessively competitive. It was never their priority.
But we have DSR prog going on for many groups, you can't suddenly makes changes mid-prog. Especially not gameplay changes.

Arguably, you can. But SQEX doesn't want to. Untouched MCH should be enough to understand it's not their will.

We don't know the code architecture, neither their development rules and good practices or their deployment strategies.

If they cant do this easily why the hell there are pvp balance patches on the fly and also yoshi p multiple poems about it? What code rules code practices? You are trying to act like ff14 code is some trash like Team Fortress 2.

They can do pvp changes whenever they want since there is no real competition beyond climbing the ladder.
They can't do it in pve because Ultimate prog is ongoing for too many groups.

On top of that, SAM isn't in a state where it needs critical chance.
PvP BLM was a bit broken and they made it clear they were still trying to reach a correct balance. Which is understandable, all jobs went under a massive pvp rework.

So I went from troll to whiteknight, is that a rank up or a demote?
I don't think you can bring anything more than conjecture and baseless statement to the discussion.

They easily pump balance patches in pvp revolving around either damage/healing potencies or even removing charge mechanic from spell or add/remove some other stuff like additional effects (blm 6.15 balance change). We literally see how dev team operates: yoshi p gets stomped -> patch rollout in 2-3 weeks without troubles.

Pretending that pve is any different than pvp and its super hard to do same thing is literally whitewashing devs.

Reminder that no one asked/wanted these changes and throughout my browsing of this forum I hardly if ever seen anyone complaining about SAM. Sounds to me that the Dev team just doesn't want skilled players actually being skilled at jobs and rather at fights. I guess I will continue doing Ultimate while falling asleep at the wheel because my job is borderline unplayable at this point. But yes, please Yoshi talk to us about housing while the DPS forum in NA and JP burns to the ground. When they said they didn't want to bring back HW I never figured that meant making every class a snoozefest.

I've added your thread to the " Compiled SAM threads against Kaiten removal ".

The changes were terrible, and we can only hope that they at the very least address it. And it seems they are dodging that bullet.

I always joke with my group about trolling them one day by coming in as samurai. Kind of sad that I can make that joke now. But I really try not to play it these days just to avoid adding numbers representation. Silly reason probably, but I don't want the consensus to be "samurais are still doing ultimate, the job is fine!" to be what they say when it's clearly not, at least from a fun perspective.

Got a strong feeling Kaiten aint ever coming back, though id be ok if they just found a better solution than auto crit...

At least samurai has damage... machinist has nothing but robot friend that punches darkened fires that are invulnerable because you accidently forgot to target the big burb :(

I hear a lot of people talking about the amount of skill this removed from the job, but wasn't Kaiten only used at one point in the rotation, without any deviation? I don't play SAM so I can't say anything for certain, but all other jobs have a static rotation that there is no deviation from so all skills have their place and you only use them when the rotation says to. There isn't a lot of decision making when it comes to skills and abilities in XIV as a whole.

FFXIV's difficulty isn't high, but then again... what do you get when you have a certain difficulty and you remove more? -> Less.

Kaiten was a potency buff applied to every Iaijutsu and Ogi Namikiri requiring 20 Kenki.

• This means you need some self-restraint
• You don't want to spam your Kenki through Shinten
• Have at least enough to use 10 Kenki to dash if needed
• Do not overcap on having more then 50 when you use Ikishoten
• Transitions in fights affects what you will or want to Kaiten

Muscle memory makes anything less difficult. Just because people say it's not difficult or braindead, still makes it quite subjective.

I found Kaiten for example adding difficultly, because I didn't execute it 100% perfectly for every fight and every situation affecting how well I play Samurai. Lo and behold, this counted for many other Samurai's even though many claim there is no decision making to be made... Samurai's didn't perform this perfectly 24/7 for a good reason, because it had a layer of difficulty and decision making to it.

Unless anyone wants to convince me that Shinten-Spam, and kenki dumping is more difficult... then managing 20 Kenki for Kaiten execution perfectly for fights that can last 7 to 10 minutes.

By that same logic, if everything is static and there is no decision or margin for error/mistake/failure, then why doesn't every job just spam 1 button for their whole rotation? They nearly got it down pat for the healer role.

Again, the way they are going with all the jobs is that they want the role to be the baseline and then the job adds something over the baseline, so that way people can more easily learn and swap between different jobs. I think the reason Kaiten is on the watch list for feedback sort of falls into the same category as taking away the cone aoe warrior had for the circle one. The identity of Samurai isn't Kaiten but the three charge system you build from using the different combos and unleashing special attacks based on how many charges are filled.

Maybe the game is just getting to the point where there isn't much more ground to gain using the multiple job system. When I play other MMOs that are one job per character the job becomes the identity of that character, so they have to have a lot more bells and whistles on that one job vs what happens in FFXIV, where a player picks up a bunch of jobs.

That really is the major design problem behind most jobs now, everything follows a very strict rotation without deviation. Once an encounter is learned, even savage and ultimate, it no longer poses any difficulty. It is all patterns to be memorized and it is why FFXIV has a huge stagnation issue. None that has cleared older content wants to go back and do it again because it's just playing a pattern they have already memorized.

I'm literally sick of playing SAM. I geared SAM I played SAM all expac. All last expac and some of SB. I geared it up, played it to damn near perfection learning literally everything about the class and how to optimize it. Made a static for DSW, then SE drops the biggest shit bomb on my class out of practically nowhere. I didn't think it would affect me as much as it does. I wanted to play monk, but we found a monk for my static. So now I'm stuck playing this class and hating it. I actually hate playing Samurai. It feels like a gutted shell of the class I played for what, almost 5 years? There's no management, there's no positional requirements, 25 kenki for every ability, auto crits kill any kind of dopamine hit I could possibly get from the class. And the worst part? I've watched buff Dir/Crit shintens hit for as much as a midare. There are parts of DSW where your SHINTEN does more damage over the phase than MIDARE. You know Midare, SE? I guess you must have forgot. Kinda crazy that it's been over a month with radio silence on the changes. I know you got another game coming out in a year that you're working on, but I think you forgot that us players over here playing 14 are literally carrying your company. I'll stay over in my corner, while you rake in my bucks.

my static is currently progging DSU and we have a SAM (since that's his prefered job and he joined us before 6.1)
we don't have any issues hitting the DPS check as of right now (we'll get see phase 2 enrage soon, but i doubt that we're gonna have trouble hitting that DPS check either)
the 2 knights we generally kill before the paladins last holiest of holy cast, so quite a bit before true enrage and we generally finish the cone phase with that dude having 11-15% HP remaining (and 30% is the minimum to survive it)
it's viable, just doesn't sync nearly as well with other jobs as it used to unfortunately.


the problem would be that if Kaiten returns with 6.1 changes (auto crit etc) that Kaiten would either still make Iaitsu hit like a wet noodle or it would absolutely destroy balance because of it.
so if they revert straight back to 6.08 and work from there, make some changes internally, remove Kaiten there BUT start having alternatives to Kaiten (that's the main issue people are having, Kaiten brought gauge management, if just Shinten was removed the same issue would surface, Kaiten was removed and nothing was added in it's place)

keep these changes for 7.0 and BAM there's some major changes coming to SAM that we were working on through the entire expansion. (also 1 thing i'm absolutely positive on is that we need an PTS for job balancing, purely for job balancing, not for actual content, nothing will be brought over to the main game, just to test the changes before they go live)

It's just that I like the Enpi Changes of 6.1 ^^;

I have seen a lot of people saying that bringing back Kaiten would be difficult. However please take into consideration that there are only 2 issues that would happen when bringing it back.
1. The auto crit would do too much damage.
2. It'd consume 20 kenki whereas right now the calculation for DPS happens considering every kenki you use is into Shinten.

Therefore 2 easy fixes:
1. Kaiten makes your next iaijutsu a crit.
2. Shinten gets a potency buff so that it is stronger.

I perhaps do not know how easy it'd be to recalculate the Shinten damage buff since I am not a game developer, but the idea at least is somewhat easy.

That's why my Initial Idea was to keep Kaiten but make it the next attack Direct Hit, so you guarantee Direct Crit Midare and Ogi.. I'd be more okay with that but in truth the Intolerance of the Community and unwillingness to listen outside of the Samurai playing folks is staggering, ppl immediatly get fed up when I only bring up that I want Kaiten back! It's like you have depression and everyone you wanna talk to about it acts like: "NO! DO NOT TALK TO ME"

They're Killing the Conversation and I think that's the main issue of the majority of this Community is that they living in that world where Final Fantasy XIV is the Best MMO and is always in the best state of the game because Yoshi-P are Perfect and the Devs can't do wrong, which is simply not true: They are Human, They make mistakes (a lot of mistakes!) but usually they listen to feedback.. we Kaiten Removal Opposers though got massively upset understandably so since they removed a core part of the Samurai's Kit hell! I saw a load of alternate change suggestion that even accounted the lie of Button Bloat in Samurai! I feel like I studied Samurai over the Kaiten Removal thoroughly and thus determine why Kaiten has to return (mainly because of the entire Kenki Integrity) while getting sidetracked pretty hard, I'll conclude with this:

I'm fairly sure I done an unhealthy amount of Forum reading by now, BUT the amount of stupid takes from Non-Samurai mains I read...

• Kaiten was a button you press everytime
• Kaiten was not interactive
• Kaiten did nothing for Kenki Management
• Kaiten required no decision making
• Kaiten was braindead anyways
• Kaiten affected Damage Variance
• Kaiten removal is fun and gives depth

I specially like the damage variance one, " Mahh-Moist-Mahogany. I remain unconvinced of Kaiten removals necessity to tackle DPS fluctuations.

The " is this your 1st time? " meme's cause it happens to SAM is also old and really doesn't add anything to the discussions. And no, for some of us it's not cause we came from games and MMO's where this already happened thinking FFXIV might be different.

You'd think it stops there, sometimes takes from players who never touched Savage... but it gets worse better when you meet players attempting to weigh in their sufferings and make a flaccid comparison contest.

Hottake: It's not that we don't care? but,

• We're Samurai's, possibly Samurai mains
• In the DPS section in Samurai threads
• Talking about Samurai changes
• That affects, you guessed it, Samurai

i can agree to Kaiten simply becoming an "next attack is an direct hit" would also remove their issue with difficulity on balancing (which was another excuse i've seen floating around since Yoshi did say that balancing Samurai was difficult because of Kaitens 50% damage increase in Kaiten and the critical hit)
button bloat honestly, I play controller and SAM was my 2nd job for content, if i didn't want to tank, there was no button bloat and as many have said, there are plenty of other candidates to fix that specific issue.
What i generally hate now that i main Red Mage, is how i can either crit for 55k on my finishers ... or hit for 23-25, maybe 30k.
i don't mind it as much, but it kinda throws me back to their "we gave midare/ogi 100% crit because of the damage variance it brought" ... other jobs have this exact same thing going on, yet nothing happens?

i always hated the aspect of "FF14 is perfect" or "yoshi-P is the messiah of the gaming industry" or "the team can't do no wrong" as you mentioned, they are human and they are actually really prone to messing things up or not even communicate to us that they are aware and are gonna fix it.
look at Machinist, they've been screwed for years now, only thing they keep doing is "potency buffs"
as i've stated, an PTS for job balancing would really fix a lot of these issues.

It's easy to say because on paper if you know your rotation you can plan it to the second. You know, kind of ignores the fact that there's a fight going on and the boss is doing things. But if we go by that logic, then why would jobs have any differences in how they're played, as one poster stated above? 'cuz variety sure is nice! But yeah, it's not as cut and dry as "memorize rotation, do big numbers". People need to stop thinking that.

Oh, and before I forget the tax: Samurai still boring, and for the love of god devs, at least talk about your plans for samurai. We've been waiting for a couple months now with nary a peep about what they want to do with it or if this half-assed state is their final goal. I sure hope it isn't, but at least it'd be nice to know if I can start throwing out striking stuff I've collected over the years.

that's what i actually like about red mage a lot.
sure it still has it's rotation, every job has it and there will always be an optimal method to play, you literally can never eliminate this.
but with Red Mage you can choose to delay your melee combo into finisher for when you need to move more.
You can actually make an active decision like "i need to move in around 20 seconds, i won't overcap on my mana gauges, so i'll pool it for now so i can keep uptime during the mechanic" Pinax in P4S is an perfect example, where i can start my melee combo when we relocate the boss and i can move around freely when we gotta split for poison. (please Yoshi, don't ruin red mage)

it would be nice to get a return to how omega 7 savage was designed, the fight had 2 basic starts, where it was either biblios or dadaluma, then the other would be stored to the end of the fight and you would get 2 more mechanics that were in an random order afterwards.
that was nice honestly, the problem is that each fight has an timeline stored with the server, so each variation is limited.

Adding my name into the list of people that Square Enix seems to be ignoring on this topic, or at least not prioritizing, but I just went back to Samurai on controller again; I have a full setup visible on one page and almost never needing to tab, and there’s a perfect and easily reachable blank spot where Kaiten would go.
