while the bot situation isnt getting better... I dont see how the sky is falling everywhere else....
could some things be improved, always, but I wouldnt say its all "falling apart"
There are a lot of complaints people have about the current state of the game..
However from the perspective of someone who has stuck with the game for 10+ years.. it's not particularly bad or some sort of event horizon.
Sky ain't falling chicken little, voice your complaints by all means.. but lets not foretell the end of the world.
I don't think everything is totally falling apart but I do wonder if the 14 team is being overly taxed by Squenix. IIRC they are also helping with 16 as well.
Housing has always been bad.
More people PvP now than previously. They already admitted that they overbuffed Black Mage, but that can't be the reason why "PvP has fallen apart."
Class design is a matter of opinion. I enjoy playing most classes, but I'm not everyone, and people can want different things from the game. I prefer simplicity so I could focus more on what's happening in a fight, where as other people want many buttons to press. Could things be better? Sure, there's always room for improvement.
Cosmetics/Customization is falling apart? What does this even mean? If you're talking about ear issues with Miqo'te and Hrothgar then I agree. On the other hand, they just unlocked gender requirements for a bunch of gear, and probably will do it for more later, which has greatly increased glamour options.
All of these things have actually improved.
With housing, there's a lot of salt from botters who would have loved to snag up all the new spots right away. While it's an improvement, there's still that unfortunate problem of the system still being as it is. A revamp would be nice, but it doesn't seem likely unless they can get away with not disrupting current homeowners.
PvP is much improved. It was a clunky mess before. This MOBA style update fits well, even with Frontline. I'm looking forward to trying out Rival Wings when it comes back.
Class design: I'll be as vague as you and say it's all improved. I leveled everything to 90 and see nothing falling apart.
Cosmetics... what even? /skip
Not really.
Housing: Demand still FAR outstrips supply. Thinking back to that other post where the guy collected data from their singular server where there were 2000+ people interested in a house who were unable to get one. On a single server.
PvP: I actually agree that PvP is better, it has some actual life now for starters. I really want them to turn Rival Wings back on, though....
Class Design: Has trended towards oversimplification over the past couple expansions; the latest on the chopping block having been Samurai and to a lesser degree Ninja. Healers being ignored for actual years.
Cosmetics: They tend to re-use item models a lot. From what I understand, this expansion has had the most recycled models of any expansion thus far. Not to mention Vieras and Hrothgar consistently being ignored.
And I have my own thing to add on;
Story: The story this expansion has been a little lackluster outside of the fanservice-y moments. They went the time travel route which almost always makes a story way more convoluted and nonsensical. The 500 page thread elsewhere on the forum complaining about it is a testament to this. I'm also not a fan how they said that they were going to give us some new stories in 6.1+ only to give us story about the Thirteenth with an almost exclusively Scion cast. I love em but they are getting old.
All in all I'm getting Wrath into Cata vibes from this. For reference, World of Warcraft hit their peak sub count in Wrath, but into Cataclysm and onwards, they started to go too far into simplification and metrics pandering, which degraded the game over time into the limping husk it is now. I'm beginning to see the same degradation start here and it does worry me.
I remember when I had to stick my retainer in the selling halls to sell stuff and you had to search each individual retainer one by one to buy things.
I also remember RECENTLY that they improved the old MSQ quests and dungeons to be BETTER and actually engaging. There was severely LESS housing available and less variety in the housing. Some jobs had pointless "buffs" to maintain that nearly every boss had a mechanic that killed them and in between pulls it also stressed people out to pull as fast as possible to maintain and no class had any way of maintaining them out of battle. We have even more variety of glamours than ever before with quite a few gendered pieces being unlocked. We have more plates and soon to be more glamour space. Not to mention PVP is probably being engaged in the most it has in years. ..
So no.. this is not measurably worse or closer to some ultimate boiling point. There are always improvements possible.. but it isn't like the game has degraded.
PVP its the only thing keeping the game alive for me, I have 0 interest on doing any PVE content ever again.
Wtf rofl, PvP of all things?
The PvP got a major update that was incredibly well-received.
You're trying too hard.
Outside of limited housing where other games use instanced housing so everyone gets a house, I can't think of any MMO that doesn't get the same or at least similar complaints on a recurring basis.
PvP? PvP is always filled with drama and controversy due to cheats, wintrading, etc.
Class/job design? What one player likes, another hates. Change a job so the player who hated it now likes it and the player who loved it will now hate it.
Cosmetics? How on earth can you say they're getting worse? SE has been improving and expanding on cosmetics ever since I started in Heavensward, including gradually taking the old gender locks off some cosmetic gear. It's not perfect (nothing ever is) but cosmetics are in the best shape they've ever been for the game.
Or did you like it better when you needed to carry around a dozen or more different types of glamour prisms in your inventory to apply glamours from items you had to keep in your Armoury Chest?
I know how the classes used to be and it's frankly awful. I think you and others are overreacting with all this talk of oversimplification. There's such a thing as having too many buttons to press, especially for those on console.
Samurai flows so much better now without that extra button press. That this bothers people the way it does just boggles my mind.
Healers are being ignored because they don't get a DPS rotation? I do hate repeating my response to that. :p ... but there are other jobs that might be more to your liking.
Housing improved. While of course you can't deny that FC and alts can still claim a whole ward, that the house supply will never reach the demand (You would need 1 house per player, simply impossible), Housing has improved.
PvP has improved.
Before it was PvE design with additionnal actions and special gear. No one played it.
Then it was simplified jobs, no one played it either.
Finally they designed PvP that goes wild with job design and has an actual fun mode, also fixed the rewards.
PvP went from dead to popular. You can't deny it improved.
Class design has improved.
I'm sorry but a few examples:
Back in HW, BRD/MCH had to sacrificed their DPS in order to restore MP/TP, which was often due to a team member mistake.
PLD was boring and having too much sks would mean running out of TP. Blood for blood existed and you would die because of it.
SMN was a mess and nothing like a SMN at all. I do think 6.0 SMN is a joke but the rework was needed.
Healers were actually worse before, they had less oGCD and would more often rely on casts.
SB MCH.
There are many examples about how crappy job design was before EW.
Sure they are doing mistakes such as Kaiten, SMN rework, MCH being left to rot.
But they also made massive improvements such as PLD, DRK, SCH, DRG, RDM, MNK.
Let's not forget great job from their introduction, GNB and RPR.
Cosmetics haven't changed, they never changed and I don't see why you're pointing this out.
The only way they would make a jump would be to add the glamour library but they stated it wasn't possible as of now.
If anything, we got a bunch of QoLs with removal of many glamour prisms, the glamour wardrobe and glamour plate.
I have seen someone pointing the story and I will agree with them. In my opinion, EW was good in the middle but the start and finish were greatly missed to me.
McGuffing for the sake of fanservices and last time introductions aren't great. I understand it was very difficult to reiterate the Shadowbringers story but there was just too many shortcuts taken in Endwalker.
Housing will never be fixed. Not in a way that will make EVERYBODY happy.
PvP is in a Pretty good spot with CC. But of course this is subjective
Class Design...everyone has an opinion
Cosmetics /Customizations...you will need to be more specific. Otherwise Ill say there is no Shortage of good Glamour in the game.
Clearly, the Final Days never truly ended. It's invading the meta now and affecting the game itself.
Game bad. Give updoots.
all of the things you've listed are better now than they have ever been.
I'm convinced that there are people on this forum who, even when they wake up in the middle of the night and see a burglar aiming a gun at them, would say "lol it's not the end of the world guess I'll go to sleep now!"
HW PVP was best PVP.
So I went away from the forums for a month or so, it was a good choice.
I come here, and I see posts like this, and it feels like I am not even playing the same game, when comparing the general sentiment and vibe I get from people actually playing the game.
Housing - Never been better. Will probably never be perfect or exactly what everyone wants but more people have housing than at any point in the game history due to the addition of Empyreum. Of course no one likes losing the housing lottery, but most people I see do seem to think it is the "least bad option" right now. Maybe island will help?
PvP - Never been better. I see almost universal praise for recent changes and additions like Crystaline Conflict. Is CC perfect? Of course not but I know many newer and long term players that love it. PvP is side content, and has there ever been an expansion where they focused more on it? It's never going to be like WoW arena, folks, and I don't think most people in game would really want that.
Class design - Here comes #3. where it seems like almost all the complaints I hear are exclusively on these forums. Like the rage about that SAM ability they removed, every single time I heard it mentioned in game or in a Discord with someone, it was pretty much universally agreed as either a neutral or positive change.
Cosmetics/Customizations - Can you elaborate? Coming from WoW about a year ago, this game has amaaaaaaazing cosmetics and customizations. The system itself (glamour dresser) is awful, but it's really not that big of a deal when this game allows you to look so amazing.
I see complaints about bots, and yes bots are bad, but at least on my server I dont think I have ever seen one or heard anyone complain or mention them or know to even look for them. Most players probably dont know the bots exist. What would a bot even do in this game?
the only thing getting worse is my gpu trying to run limsa during the day
Guys, OP has a history of trying to stir up emotions/start arguments.
Their last one was a complaint about the ToS which could be summed up as "They simply did not read the ToS".
Try not to take it too seriously, and if you have a strong urge to argue with anyone with strong opinions that are different from yours, that was probably what the OP was aiming for.
Bottom line on all of what OP is talking about is subjective. Some people like easier/more approachable, some people like more crunch/meta involved. For better or for worse, the game is leaning more and more "easy".
With housing it has always been bad. I think this comes from the fact originally it was designed for ONLY free companies to be able to purchase them. They were a perk for being in a guild, at the start it was a major thing for guilds to get. When they expanded this to individuals to be able to buy houses combined with increased player base a non-instanced housing system simply is not doable unless they literally add around 10xs the wards they have currently.
PvP. This is not a pvp game and it has always been an after thought. Yea it has always been bad but it was never a focus of FFXIV in any way. Sucked on day 1, still extremely subpar now. It is just a side activity in FFXIV like Chocobo Racing is more or less..
Class design I agree is worse. Especially healers. But this is core game design and philosophy. You CANNOT have near perfect balance, forced lowman content (aka 8 man instanced raids), and 100% 1 shot based scripted fights and have job uniqueness. All healers must be equal, all tanks must be equal, all melee must be equal, all mages must be equal, all physical range must be equal. Or you risk running into issue where certain groups cannot clear content with any form of effectiveness if they have the wrong setup. I honestly believe there is no in-between here you have balanced and homogeneous jobs or uniqueness and specialization.
Cosmetics: Yea I feel armor pieces and design has started to slack. We have a lot more recolored, minor modified pieces now then we use to. This is the one thing I agree with. Everything is a robe of some kind... usually very close to an existing piece atm.
But to be honest the game is not that much worse and the good things more then cover the things that got slightly worse over time. Being here from Alpha Testing I can say the game has not changed that much from ARR to now. Things keep getting dumbed down slightly and the focus is shifting more away from what is considered a generally considered a "MMORPG" game towards more a solo/co-op style hub game.... but I blame the community mainly for this. It is what the majority enjoy and it brings in the most players. So is it bad? depends on your mindset. Can't blame a company chasing the biggest profits and trying to make the majority happy.
and I am convinced there are people on this forum, who could wake up and have a one on one meeting with Yoshi P personally asks them every single change they would want in the game, implement those changes the same day, and that person would still complain that the game was falling apart, dead, dying etc.
Are you sure about that?
I have been around since ARR and believe me, all of the systems is 1000x better than those days.
All of the systems on this game is not perfect but they have to continue to improved and what not but I think Class Design is my bane right now.
I think Cosmetics/Customization is mostly because of Technical Debt still (need clarification on that).
I seen this game from almost from the beginning to right now and believe me, right now it is at the top or close to top of its peak.
I don't think everything was ever fully apart to begin with. This game more so relied on its community to keep a lot of things functioning. It feels as people are beginning to exploit certain aspects of this game more but it doesn't really feel all that doom and gloom.
I haven't stopped enjoying myself and I think we have a long way to go before most of the playerbase stops enjoying the game too.
Hosing - was always bad. If anything housing is great right now with how many housing items we have and how creative housing community is.
PvP - at it's peak right now. Never been better.
Class design - every job is viable, everything is working. People who are nostalgic about good old days always forget how some jobs were literally not viable back in HW.
Cosmetics/Customizations - more hairstyles and gear than we ever had.
The forum/reddit/discord are getting worse.
The game is fine.
Wtf are you talking about?
