Having to warp to town between leves in general kind of bulls**t imo.
Yea, it is lame, but I think that is how they intend it to be. A time sink since it gives high exp, gil, and items.
i agree. but the 2 homepoints does help out. Get leves return to camp. finis leves switch to level one class kill myself return to inn. grabs leves repeat. though i wish there were more than 2.
It's a small timesink which is alleviated through the use of anima, and with the introduction of Hamlets it's even less of an issue. I don't really see much issue with how gathering leves are handled since those leves are just meant to help you level, where if you are truly leveling the class for materials you'll find yourself leveling outside of leves rather then in them.
Don't do leves I'd rather get usefull materials while I'm leveling.
...except you get materials during the leves.
but this thread is about gathering so why are we talking about materials. and gathering outside of leves gives alot less xp.
Why we have less leves: Us DoL are the bastard stepchildren of Eorzea (until 2.0, that is).
I would rather that they tune leves so that there's less of a reward or buff trade-in (hint hint, history eval right now sucks) so that coming to town is worth it. The whole "get high exp for 15 minutes, then spent 15 minutes doing nothing" is really not fun, when we could instead have something like "get adequate/above grinding average exp for 30 minutes."
Actually, the impression I got from the letter was that he feels DoL/DoH are there to support the DoW/DoM. This means going away from the old model that had you able to do all the missions even if DoL/DoH are your only disciplines.
The key difference between hobby and support, is that we can expect them to add updates and improvements to the disciplines, as well as more ways to utilize them. Hamlet Defense is a prime example: The event still maintains the concept that DoL/DoH are support, but they're quite essential both for getting the supply rating up for rewards, as well as to support the NPCs during the combat phase.
While it does appear DoL/DoH are going to have a subservient role (As they very well should), I think we'll continue to see adjustments for both of them.
...have you even done a DoL leve? One type has you heading off to three nodes and gathering whatever you please until you finish them all, giving extra xp for the gathering itself and a bonus at the end. The other leve type has you gathering spots to try and get three of a quest item, which drops a bucketload of xp on you when you do so. You can still try to aim for whatever materials you want during this time.
How do they "not give you a lot of options"?
There are other places to gather than the 3 cities I actually spend a good deal of time in Coerthos where there are no leves or farming spruce branches where there are...no leves.
Yes I have done leves and the exp is nice, but once you hit the higher 40's that exp becomes pointless due to deminishing returns in what leveling up actually does for you as a DoL. I should also point out that the leves don't always give you the same pick of items that normal gathering would. A few of the leves actually change the loot-pool of the tree drastically.
So in closing I prefer aiming for the items I want over a exp boost and warping allover the place all day.
Probably because they're gathering classes. You use them to gather materials, not grind to max level.
