The housing system is designed to upset as many people as possible.

We have a system that is based around intentionally upsetting the largest amount of people possible. In many MMORPGs the housing is instanced. Elder Scrolls Online has heavily instanced housing, a large player base, and no issues with it. Warframe has massive instanced housing with a very robust decorating system. I could go on and on.

It's baffling, frustrating, and upsetting that we have a housing system like this in one of the, if not the, most popular MMORPG on the market. There is NO legitimate reason why the housing shouldn't be instanced. There are many titles with large amounts of players running instanced housing. They have no issue supporting it with their servers. So the data space argument is out the window. It doesn't "keep people in towns" or provide any sense of a living and populated world. Most people can attest that the housing wards are bone dry and empty unless an event is happening - which is usually to help a streamer.

This needs to be fixed, it's a crucial game element, it's ADVERTISED on the main game page: https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/

A secondary network of servers could host the housing service in a similar way data center transfers and world transfers operate. They can easily give us more housing, easily make people happier, but instead we have this.

Those that have lost the lottery have to take a walk of shame from the placard with reports of them being ridiculed or awkwardly stared at as the victor of the lottery has a party on their new lawn.

Things like this shouldn't be in a game. The moogle should have sent you your gil. I can't believe these types of things weren't thought out. But we have "zero" as a winning number. I'm not really sure what to make of this.

All this system has done: Create a grey market where houses are sold at extremely high prices, upset more people than it has made happy, ruin the game for many, and cause the greatest issue with Final Fantasy XIV: Online since 1.0

I in particulary have to agree with this, I'm not sure what was the idea behind forcing people to go to the plot they just lost, as the winner is there building his house and decorating, and you have to take a walk of shame to come pick up your gil right in front of it, it encourages toxicity and is just ridiculous to have to deal with after the frustration of losing a house.

As for the rest, I agree as well.

So many other games have done an amazingly outstanding job at housing system in comparison to XIV. The currently most played MMORPG. It feels like it's purposely done this way.
And I don't have big hopes for it ever being fixed.

I'm not arguing that it's a conspiracy. It's just that the system they have created inadvertently upsets a large amount of people. This should have been something they were aware of - given the way it operates. I think you misunderstood where I was coming from.

You forgot to mention the real reason why these wards are bone dry empty. FC alts have bought them up in one case on one server one man bought an entire ward in the goblet. In another server an FC bought any entire ward and it’s empty because the one person FC uses it to roll play by building an entire time for example there is a bank or general store lol

The housing system in this game is absolutely terrible because it doesn't and can't meet the needs of the playerbase. They need to switch to instanced housing for people who want to be able to have a house and don't care about the whole neighborhood thing.

Remember remember, TWO more weeks to make sure everything is perfect and it is. =D

12 hours after losing the lottery, I'm still salty, I had never experienced this on any game in 20 years, congratulations to whoever thought this system would be a good idea.

the funny thing is the system is kind of fine, they just went out of their way to make it as unpleasant as possible. Also worth noting the evolution of it too

it started as free company housing only. With the private rooms so everyone had a shared guild headquarters with their own private space
Turned out almost no one wanted it and very few plots were purchased

After many many requests for it to be open to private buyers they did and everything disappeared almost instantly, the big merchants ended up buying entire wards.
So they added more wards and the weird bizarro-world sub divisions and the rich just kept buying up all the houses

then they added more wards put in the account limits and set it up so only FC and relocations could buy to try and open up houses throughout the wards for new buyers and it worked.
Then they added more and people were prepared with Solo character FC's and teleport hacks to bind up the houses before the proper cycle of relocation and mass openings could occur

Then tons of people complained about wanting a private space without being in an FC
Then they added apartments and everyone was like "not good enough!" even though it's exactly the same as FC rooms and even has the vendors

so then they added a lottery system to try and weed out the cheaters and completely borked it

they will probably add more wards soon if they can to make up for said borking

and next will probably be islands which look to me to be a near direct copy of wildstar instanced housing that no one gave a crap about outside utility since it's not really part of the world

If the concept of the islands they develop is similar to that of wildstar that would be great but when I look at the info on it, I can't help but think of the fief on wow which is just the worst thing possible.

Islands are going to be the biggest let down since the last let down with housing. Just a stab in the dark, it will some sort of minigame/sidecontent slightly more involved then the pixie beast quests.

To be fair, this is a half-truth. Nobody cared in Wildstar because Wildstar was marketed as some combat focused high-end player game with a massive focus on mechanics rather than anything else. FFXIV, I think we can all find undeniable, is incredibly social and leaning on interacting with through our words, movements, or houses. Hell, that's the idea this neighborhood contrivance is founded upon. Instanced housing that can be visited will certainly be more successful than in Wildstar, if at least to push ERPers out of sight.

But that won't be Island Sanctuaries. Because the dev team is allergic to doing things correctly as of late.

another thing tht makes my stomach churn with bile is not only the lack of player housing while 75% of all wards are exclusive to FCs, no, what makes my bile boil is the seasonal events that even give you neat and cool housing items one cant use when you dont own a house :U. feels like more salt on the scraped open ankle that got kicked beforehand..and topped with a drop of lemon juice.

Upgrade the apartment or offer more sizes for FC room instead! Instanced housing is cheap system used by lazy developer to get easy way out.

An upgrade for Apartments would be nice, a second Room for 500.000 Gil more and a Balcony for some Gardening for 500.000 Gil more. Win / Win for all. It would be a Gil Sink. Houses would be still there but lesser Players who gets kicked in the Face for not getting an House.

Some of the oldest MMORPGs had better systems than this one. I'm not sure where you're going with this. Many MMOs have instanced housing.

Everquest (launched in 1999) had neighborhood housing like FFXIV and when each neighborhood was filled a new one would be created. When it became completely vacant it would be destroyed.

They got it right all the way back in 1999. Can you believe it?

Neighborhoods
Houses in EQ are broken up into neighborhoods . Neighborhoods are instanced zones that contain sets of player-owned plots. Currently we have one type of neighborhood that contains 71 plots.
As each neighborhood fills up, more will spawn. Each has a unique name. If any neighborhoods empty out completely, they will be shut down.

I won my house, but waited to decorate until the early evening, so that people who bet on my property wouldn't have to stare at my plot in even more horror.
