Miqo'te ears are made up of two parts, the head model has the "naked" inside of the ear, and the furry bit of Miqo'te ears is attached to the hairstyle itself. Their ears don't really go through but are part of the hairstyle. Since they only have one ear type it's able to work like that.

The male Viera version of the hairstyle is different again, Viera ears are not attached to their heads or hair but are completely separate and instead the hair has 2 cut-outs in it where the ears slot in to later.

Hrothgar ears are part of the head model itself and I guess that's where the problem comes in. They can't do it the Miqo'te way because Hrothgar have 4 different ear shapes, and they can't do it the Viera way because the ears aren't separated from the head model.

Why the hair can't be layered over the Hrothgar head model with the ears clipping through the hairstyle is anyone's guess though, if I had to guess then maybe they do hairstyles the same way they do equipment and it replaces parts of the body rather than layers it on top. So once the hair is on, the top half of the head (including the ears, in this case) disappears and there's no ears left to allow to clip through.

With how long it's been you'd think they would have found a better solution than this though. :(

I don't disagree but they've been flooding the game with aesthetics that are just completely unappealing in the eyes of the typical individual for a while now. As such, it's unfortunate that they chose to handle Hrothgar hairstyles the way that they did but it is very much in line with their strange insistence on forcing male characters to have hairstyles clearly designed for women when that isn't at all what the majority of people actually playing male characters desire.

In the case of Hrothgar, they really should have been given a unique set of hairstyles that account for their core facial features. Giving the Ronso in FFX Yuna's hair wouldn't make a lot of people like them or see them as proud bestial warriors. They'd simply be treated as a parody.

Perhaps this is what happens when there's the given impression of a complete lack of interest in male characters from the lead developer, who on one hand insists that he really wants to see a bestial race added to the game and on the other continues to play a tiny female lalafell and female au ra. :rolleyes:

What I'm saying is coming out with that quote without quotation marks and without any clear indication of a joking intention made it indistinguishable from an insult.

It's like saying something outrageous and uncalled for, and when you're called out for saying said outrageous and uncalled for statement, you respond with "it was just a joke bruh chill" or "it was just a prank!".

It doesn't really make it ok.

Generally people who are mad will be prone to lashing out at others, whether they have a reason to or not.

If you want someone to blame, blame Square for refusing to address the issue and allowing the forums to get to the state it is because of it. Even their patch notes surrounding the subject at hand are cryptic. It could at the very least be cleared up in a matter of minutes.

It is strange how tight-lipped Square is. I've played several games and MMO's where its forums actually have interaction with the devs/reps. These forums are pretty much forsaken in comparison.

They have to make people laugh and be funny to be jokes. This was just an uncalled for reference which flew over the heads of people who didn't watch this "comedian's" favorite 1980's movie and came off as an insult due to lack of context.

If you have to spend several minutes explaining your joke for it to land, it's probably not a very good joke.

It is not on me that I didn't know your 1980's movie quote. Hiding an insult behind an obscure reference and that being the only thing that doesn't make it an insult doesn't make it ok.
