Suggestion - Primal Temples

I think one of the most disappointing aspects of the primal fights (beyond the style of item acquisition) was the method of entering the instanced arena. It seems the majority of the game's content (primal fights and raids) are all accessed via a dull, featureless cave. What sort of build up is that? I'm assuming it's mostly due to the focus on 2.0's world design, but I would like to suggest something on that note:

Primal Temples

Basically, open world mini-dungeons of sorts which would house the waypoint to the primal fights. Imagine large cathedrals, designed with their corresponding beastman's architectural style in mind, full of fire/wind/moogle based themes and symbols, chock full of high priests, guards, and perhaps an NM or two guarding their precious waypoint within.

I find this an excellent way to combine interesting open world content with instanced boss fights, something for everyone to enjoy! Besides, those featureless caves need to go and I hope that either way, something a bit more exciting is done with them in 2.0

That's a wonderful idea. Maybe something like the temples of FFX, where you need to go through a trial and solve some puzzles and stuff like that. I always liked that and FFXIV need more mini-games if you ask me!

No point creating a completely new zone for this current version of game. I do hope it changes in V2.0.

Yeah that's a given. But maybe for the future primals? That would be awesome!

think on a primal temple full of Guards and High Priest and NMs..... but add some nice factor... remember yoshida-p coment about primal ben capture by Compains and only the campaing how capture the primal can summon it.

think about in the limit time for a campaing City keep the primal they fellows Tribe Come to town to take his God back.... example


lets says The Immortal Flames Capture ifrit.....
in a time of 72hours if they dont Summon Ifrit on a large Scale Event lets says VS the Empire...... The Base of the Amja send a Scout Team to Ud to take his God back...... if The immortal Flames Beat then up.. they keep it. if they win they show a big SC where ifrit is Release from a "Jar" or a "jail" where it was captured......

also each time Beastmen fails on get his God back. they will Raise 1 point of dificulty..... and to lower then Ranks the Campaing will have to send Trops to fight NM's "High Priest" on they Outpost to take they full Force down.....


guys be Creative..... lets make workout on soemthing that Dev team can use on the new Way the game is taking... and i think Temple is a winer

yea... they will send trops to get they god back..... but Temple will be on a Holy Area for beastmens lets says not inside they lore Strongholds

usualy Ifrit pops into a volcano.... im not crying about the volcano again... i get over it lol

but lets says a "Fire Temple" (tentative) and inside mobs lv52-56 and boss for Droping Ifrit Assesorys or gear lets says Ifrit Earring, Ifrit Ring, or soemthing to work out on temple... also they drop inferno items to pop ifrits on the BC arena.....

and lets says The Immortal Flames Capture ifrit

there will pop a lv60 Boss on they Temple or lv65 will need 8-16 people to work out and take it down other wise they will come on full Force and Strike on Ud

and Primal can works as place holders for this NMs to pop... also they can make NMs do a Walking on open map on the Way to ud like Besiged on FFxi..... was very nice see Beastmen tribe run truw the Open map and you try to slow then down to dont take the City... and primals can be like Astral Candence.... Something that they Desespered Wanted......

no, not like the current beastmen strongholds. like an actual TEMPLE that embodies the primal (ie. Ifrit's Cauldron being an actual fiery volcano that invoked the essence of Ifrit) there's a completely different aesthetic and function there lol.

New appropriate and suggestive stronghold in-theme with a final (or mid) zone for Altar or something like that were beast-tribe evoke the primal... (and then enter in the istance)

i was hoping that Garudas node would be on a floating island above natalan.
and it would be great if ifrits node require you to reach the core of eorzea lol, a dungeon to reach a primal would be nice

I do want to reiterate what has been said and perhaps add a bit more. The current caves were probably always intended for this purpose by the previous team, as well as our current dungeon zones. I do expect them to be remade for 2.0.

Hate to be the one bringing up potential problems, but...


...people have already been complaining for months about how sick they are of fighting these Primals after having to donate days of their lives toward farming them. Now you want them to extend that time by not only making players have to kill the Primals hundreds of times, but also making them spend hundreds more hours fighting through a temple full of priests, NMs, guardians, and servants every time they want a chance at a drop? People are pissed as it is. That sounds like it would just throw more fuel on their rage.

If this idea were to be implemented, there are only a few things that could make it work.

-Change the frickin' drop system to be more forgiving first.

OR

-Implement a back door that you can get a key to, or a teleportation pad that you can attune yourself to, which will allow you to skip straight to the Primal's aether node after fighting through the temple for your first time. Perhaps reaching this point of the temple could be the quest requirements in the quest that unlocks the Primal fight, instead of the silly things we have now like, "Travel the world and kill these six low level NMs" or "Grovel until you find enough people willing to help you kill the worthless, baby stepping stone version of the Primal before you repeat it all over again at the actual intended strength."

OR

-Simply make this the area that you farm tapers/keystones/feathers/etc. in, instead of the beastman camps. The camps already have their own chests and NMs to keep players interested in going to them, so moving this aspect of the game to a different zone wouldn't kill player interest in the camps. By moving the additional incentive of farming Primal access items to the "temple" zones however, you'd also have a built in playerbase interested in going to the temples. Then you wouldn't even need to change the Primal loot system or add a backdoor.

Side note: I don't even care if it's an actual temple or not. As someone else pointed out, Ifrit's Cauldron was rad, and that was no temple, but just a volcano full of nasties. That was actually my favorite zone to explore in FFXI. Just give Primals an actual area to call their own, period, temple or otherwise, and I'd already be thrilled. I understand that the lore ties them in with the beastmen, but after we finish farming those guys, it's not like we're even entering the node with beastmen around. Instead we're entering it way outside the beastmen territory. If that's how it's going to remain, then at least add some razzle dazzle around their aether nodes to keep us immersed! I'd much prefer that to the devs looking at the map, pointing to random caves, and simply slapping a node into them. That's just dull and lifeless.

I don't like this idea at all, Primals are gods and they exist thanks to Aerther, so it only makes sense that they would exist on an Aerthial plane which would be accessed via an Aerthial gateway.

What you are suggesting is that they are real world monsters that live in their own little castle, nope I don't think that makes sense.

There will be plenty of chance for other dungeons/castles and strongholds that have high end bosses and not gods.

Supposedly the beastmen worship these gods. What's more odd: the thought of them building temples to protect or worship their aether gateways, or them staying far away from the empty caves that they're found in? Imagine that christians discovered a stairway to heaven, and then tell me that they'd walk away and forget all about it. Fat chance. Even their garden of eden had an angel with flaming swords placed at the gate to stand guard.

And if the content finder would ruin this by giving players a pass to skip it, then just add it to the content that's being found. Make it part of the instance.

In my opinion, Yes and No to this idea.
I do NOT want to go through a temple every time I fight a primal...especially with the low drops we currently have.

What would be good, at least I think so, would be a temple for each primal in which you have to go through before you're allowed quick access to the primal fight. That or at least go through the temple for the first primal fight, but then there is some sort of warp shortcut after to fight it again and again.

Don't get me wrong, I love temples in video games, and even liked many of FFXIs. However I dont see myself going through all that just for wipes until myself or my teammates learn how to go through the fight.

So basically fight your way through an instance to get to an instance ?

It would just make more sense to have the actual aetherial gate in the strongholds, they already exist so there would be no work to be done minus moving the gateway.

Of course then everyone would whine about having a hard time getting to the gateway etc.

I wouldn't be opposed to a BCNM circle (see reins pic above) within one of the strongholds but I'm sure many would.

FFXI they were physical beings as well, just sleeping thus why you call an 'avatar', rather than the 'summon' itself. In FFX, they're also physical beings that you call avatars of thanks to the Fayth....that's just examples given the theme of this topic.

And thus we come to the issue with almost all new MMOs, content finder. It works for what it's suppose to but it leads to a very boring world.

Fact is this is not FF11, Primals are gods in this game, they weren't god in FF11 from what I remember.. although I'm sure If I'm wrong you will be ready with a hundred links to prove otherwise.

If you read the FFXIV lore you will know that Primals require aether to survive in this world, every time we defeat them that energy is released and they temporarily can no longer survive in the world.

I like the idea, but I'd take it a step further. The outer halls of the temple would be open world, with traps or other interesting things for players to deal with (can't really be complicated until player character movement is smoother out and jumping is implemented). The inner sanctum would be instanced with two or three boss encounters on the way to the actual primal fight. At least one of these bosses would have an optional hard-mode trigger for improved/additional loot.

Pipe Dream: If Thief is implemented as a stealth job/class that specializes in spike melee DPS and going stealthy, I'd also toss in traps that must be disarmed by the THF in the group or risk having to deal with packs of really difficult trash mobs.

Much like in XI they stay dormant because all hell would break loose if they're awoken, hence "Waking the beast" quest. These are such small matters when it comes to a FF game that they always skirt around when it comes to the player character. In FFX you kill all of the aeons at the end of the game, yet they're still present even in FFX-2 in ways, (not to mention the Dark Aeons from X International) so if they need Aether to survive, the only thing that would disrupt this is the world's aether being depleted.

As well if you read the XIV lore and in-game quests thoroughly, you'd realize that since they're considered gods to some you would figure there would be at minimum a shrine erected in their honor. Look at older FF games in regards to important summons in the particular game's lore.

I think this is a good idea. May need some tweaking, depending on how 2.0 turns out, but I think this, or something similar should definitely be implemented.

The idea in the OP, not referring to others posted in the thread. Not saying those aren't good, just the one in the OP is the one I prefer.

This idea is awesome! But if the drop rates of the reward items are the same in such things as they are now, I probably would only do it once..that's a lot of work for no *real* reward XD

Hmm..

Ice caverns, full of slippery paths that can lead you down undesirable paths, causing you to double back and run around undesirable paths to return to your group, the occasional stalgamite falling from the ceiling, either impaling you upon impact for heavy damage, or shattering upon the ground on impact, hitting anyone caught within range around the shattering pieces for lesser but still damage..

Fiery shafts of melting walls, hissing, popping pools of molten lava pools, you step into you suffer fire damage, with a bleed effect.. geysers erupting from the floors of flesh searing steam..

Floating islands, connected by rope bridges, surrounded by howling winds that batter you as you move. Certain paths, if you run, you get pushed off one island, to be put on another, having to move around certain paths, some walking, some running to avoid being pummeled by the winds, or creatures that inhabit those places.

Something akin to the temple of water from a zelda game, I forget which..puzzles that include having to move the water from one chamber to another, to unlock new paths, while sealing away others..

Climbing lofty towers, as animated suits of armor, of ancient guards before standing immobile and ignored, ambush you at random points, as you traverse through fairy tale castle turrets in a labrynith of shifting walls (I really cant wait to see how they incorporate Alexander into this one)

Yeah..anyways..I could dig some Primal temples aspected to their elements heavily.
