Rival Wings is completely dead

At least Primal Side.

This subforum seems to be dead as well but maybe devs actually read it so here goes.

Since roughly 3 weeks before Endwalker I noticed anytime I'd que for RW, no matter the time of day, it would not pop. I would immediately have an estimated 30min wait time that would go on for hours. One time, during prime time, I forgot about my que completely while I messed around with other things in game, afked, etc. and than when I came back noticed over 2 hours in it still had not popped.

Outside of 1 discord server I'm in that occassionally hosts events, it's completely and utterly abandoned by the entirety of the Primal datacenter. It's as if the community collectively decided to stop playing it one day. Some might argue it's because it's not on the roulette, well it wasn't on the roulette ever and yet people still played it regularily. It was arguably the best game mode since it wasn't dominated by discord premades constantly so you would have an easy 50/50 win ratio, and running around in mechs is just awesome.

So I don't know why everyone just randomly decided to stop playing it. It's extremely bizarre, you'd think there'd be at least enough to make games still pop but no, it's completely dead now. What happened? And what does Square Enix plan to do about it? The only reason frontlines isn't dead too is because it's on the duty roulette. Nobody likes it, premades ruin it half the time especially during special events, games take too long, and it's just boring.

Why don't you add Rival Wings and other game modes to the daily roulette? There's no reason we can't have an extra daily to get exp from, making the grind for leveling alts a bit quicker while simultaneously riving these dead modes. I know you intend to release a new game mode at some point this expansion but it's going to be dead on arrival unless you put it on the roulette because this community has made it clear it doesn't care about pvp and only does it for daily exp and glams/mounts.

If not then may as well just delete pvp altogether, roll the exp into other dailies and give other means to get the glams and mounts. Having only one active game mode that's only active because of the daily reward where nobody actually enjoys playing it is really a sorry state to leave pvp in, it's better off not even existing. It's been almost 10 years and you've completely failed to make the playerbase engaged with PvP outside of a daily carrot-on-the-stick for one single mode that sucks, you made one decent game mode but now nobody plays it mysteriously, you plan on releasing a brand new one soon but that's doomed to fail unless it's put on the roulette. PvP is so uncared for in this community that the official forum for it is basically dead. Please consider either remedying the problem with PvP right now or just removing it and stop wasting resources on something that isn't being bothered with by the playerbase.

Despite what SE tries to do every time, FFXIV is NOT a fun PvP game with interesting rewards. And the fact that the only interesting rewards PvP can provide on FFXIV are glamours and you'll notice that the latest skins are from Shadowbringer.

PvP on FFXIV is even worse than on WoW.

Unfortunately RW only queues when they're doing moogle tomes or if people manage to drum up enough interest in the revival wings discord (And I think they almost always schedule it on a Saturday when they do? idr) The expansion is still fairly fresh so I haven't heard of them scheduling anything recently. They also haven't added any new pvp rewards at all (unless you count the level 8 dark matter which you shouldn't lol) Honestly I wish they'd add it to FL roulette its definitely more fun then secure that's for sure.

People stopped playing it once they got the mount from it and they would rather play the mode with the shortest queue times. Rival Wings will remain dead outside of Moogle Treasure and discord events unless they give it a daily bonus like Frontline.

It also doesn't help that the unlock quest for it is hidden away at the Wolves' Den Pier while the unlock quest for Frontline is at Grand Company HQs.

The Battle Pass feature coming with 6.1 won't help Rival Wings's case unless the BP requires that you play some amount of RW. They said that you can make progress on the BP by playing any PvP mode, which essentially means: just stick with Crystal Conflict and/or Frontline. Don't bother with RW.

It all comes down to what the daily is , it’s the only thing that will get enough people to do anything.

The problem with NA and Rival Wing in general is their standard Horde Stampede doesn't work in that mode
If you are group together and you are making yourselves vulnerable to mecha's aoe attacks.
If new players bindless follow the group and expecting it works like Onsal Hakir, it is frustration waiting for them.
JP on other hand is not playing with this Horde Stampede mindset so their Rival Wing is functional.

The long queues for Rival Wings and the need for 100 victories for the Mecha Gorilla mount is too much of a slog for me to consider running.

If queues were more frequent I'd consider it.

As long as dailies are mindless zergfests I doubt many players will bother with the other PvP content.

There is a Reason no one plays pvp after they have done their Roulette for extra tomes/exp.

Its just not fun (since Stormblood). I know there are a FEW that like how it is but after the majority did their daily, they are sitting on dry ground too. RW has no daily roulette and there is no Event going on so no one plays it.

So those of us who never got the mount are just screwed then? Might as well just move it somewhere else since the community has decided to collectively abandon this content because they got theirs. Or I dunno, do the logical thing and put RW on the daily roulette already.

They can't and we all know it. The system isn't advanced enough to differentiate sizes needed. We have nothing in the game that suggests this would even be possible. More realistic is put the mount on the vendor or moogle event.

To differentiate *what* sizes needed? If you mean player count, Duty Roulette: Mentor can put you in 4-man, 8-man or 24-man duties of differing role requirements and with everyone being a forced Freelancer in Frontline, all you need is 72 eligible players for Frontline, which is only 50% more than Rival Wings.

The system in this aspect is in fact advanced enough. If you mean another reason / size, let me know.

That said, Rival Wings is in dire need of promotion beyond silly moogle tomestones and a separate Daily Challenge or one sharing with Frontline will definitely benefit it, short and long term.

To keep a game mode active you need a steady player base plus new players constantly joining to keep the queues active. Tons of new players would quit after their first match going up against experienced players controlling mechs who can literally 1 shot them.

They can do two things;

1. Add Hidden Gorge to the existing daily Frontline queue and rename it to Daily Challenge: Large-scale PvP.
2. Give Astragalos (the original map) a makeover to bring it more inline with HG and then place both maps in a daily rotation queue separate from Frontline.

Even if people get one-shot by veteran players in mechs, I think they will keep playing if the EXP is good.

The Revival PvP discord does its best to at least have RW active during the weekend evenings. They were on break between 6.0 and 6.05 but they will start doing the events again starting this Saturday.

The point I made still stands, we have rewards that are locked behind content that has been abandoned by the community, making they impossible to obtain. They need to either address the issue of said content not being engaged with anymore, or take the rewards out and make them purchasable elsewhere and consider this content dead and remove it from the game. Not release a brand new pvp mode that will only have the same issue.

What's worse about all of this is that nobody in this community seems to care. Nobody posts on the pvp subforum which is insane and the reason I made this thread because nobody was talking about it. For a month or more, I was playing Rival Wings with good que times. All of a sudden, the community just decides they don't care about this content anymore and collectively abandoned it, leaving me with eternal queue times and no means to get the mount that I had been working towards. People got theirs and just dropped it? Really? That's goddawful. I cannot get this reward anymore, there is nothing I can do about this because both the devs and the community doesn't give a dam.

There needs to be a solution or they're saying they don't care that they have unofficially unobtainable rewards in the game now.

Community has done alot to keep Rival Wings alive but even with big Discord channels its sometimes hard to get a match going. The general XIV community just doesn't care about PvP or want to actively take part in it and many people who do just get their reward and leave it forever :p The devs have tried to multiple times get more people into PvP by making it easier to get into but at least for Feast that didn't work

Speaking of unobtainable things the 4 player party ranked Feast achievements are some of the rarest ones to get because there has been only 1 season for the last 3 expansions and to complete it you would need to win 500 matches. Some people have tried to farm these in illegitimate ways and got punished for it so those achievements are pretty much not doable even though they are listed in achievement menu o.o

No new PVP gear, honestly what do you expect

Rival Wings is trash. That's why it's dead content.

This isn't new news. SE has been struggling with this for about 3 years now or over. Despite the tweaks from time to time there just isn't enough incentives to play Rival Wings at the moment. Astragalos was released in late 2017, and it was only active for 3 months (at least in NA) before the next major patch killed off all activity.

The only realistic solution would be either to give Rival Wings it's own roulette or to rework the current pvp roulette to include all pvp modes. I will take a hard pass on deleting the mode on pvp in general however.

There's a community event on Aether, Primal, and Crystal this saturday and sunday at 8PM EST (and yes also EU though obviously at a different time). Revival discord is organizing it and this will likely be reoccurring. They were just on break for the holidays.

Rival Wings for some odd reason is not included in the frontlines roulette. If they put it in the rotation it would get played.

That's because it is not a 3 team 72 man Frontline match. Rival Wings is the category/mode and not an individual instance. If they created another map or brought back RW's first map SE could add a roulette.

"FFXIV is not a fun pvp game", yeah no, it absolutely can be very fun. The issue is that 95% of the players don't understand the maps at all, and don't even care about learning, making it stale if you yourself try to be good. It's also SE's fault for not encouraging and teaching people how to play properly.

Some genius in Squeenix HQ thought its a good idea to exclude all Rival Wings content (including Astragalos from which we have not heard from in years) from Frontline Roulette or simply make it its own Daily PvP Roulette.

It is as dead on EU Servers as it is on US. Apparently, JPN Servers have 24/7 active PvP matches on all Modes but that is something i just heard and havent confirmed myself.

I wonder if the 6.1 changes to PvP will do it finally some Justice, but knowing how Squeenix usually does things, i dont have much hope for it to be any good.

I really don't see what's not to gain by them making Rival Wings it's own roulette and bringing back Astralagos. It is basically content that is just left sitting there untouched. Our subs paid for them to build it, I'd like to be able to play it.

People forget, before the Frontline roulette, Frontlines struggled a lot as well with queues. I used to really struggle to get into modes like Seal Rock, now I never do. The roulette system works really well for basically all other content in the game and it worked for Frontlines, so I really just don't get why they haven't made it into a roulette already.

The only thing will get me to play Rival Wing is probably the removal those 2 baby protectors, otherwise.....
I am fine of babies getting 18s invulnerable but baby protects are just too much

There's literally zero reason why they can't just have a random pvp roulette, including both Frontlines and Rival Wings. Zero reason whatsoever unless spaghetti code argument applies to this as well. Right now we also have an entire map, Astralagos, that's been unplayable for 3 years straight. This is just pathetic. The only reason anyone still does Frontlines, the last active game mode, is because it has it's own roulette. If they can't be bothered to put Rival Wings on the daily as well then just remove it from the game completely. It's utterly embarresing that they're allowing completely dead content to exist and doing absolutely nothing to get the playerbase to engage with it anymore. Just remove it at this point.

Why would you remove something that people play on the weekend? Also RW and FL are very different. Someone could like one and not the other.

That's still limiting content a bit much. It would be better to have a separate roulette. It already feels long enough to get certain FL matches.

The Moogle tome event also proves people do want to play RW, but they don't queue up, because it won't pop under normal circumstances.

Rival wings would be way more alive if:
1: It was on the daily roulette thing like frontlines are
honestly that's all that's required nvm lol

I really hope they try harder to push Rival Wings in 6.1 because I much prefer its simple 1v1 dynamic vs. the three-way crapshoot of Frontlines where you can end up in what's effectively a 2v1 situation due to poor decision-making on the part of the team in third place.

Good thing I managed to do Rival Wings since Astragalos and got "Wings of Fire" title from moogle event...

I only have Steel. Crystal queues are rough on Sat night. I think last week or the week before had one match.

RIP me. If someone that pvps as often as I do only has Steel, well that tells you how active the mode is.

Well it was very active in Stormblood and I knew a few who already got the 1000 wins back then :p

Despite the instructions that walk you through it the first time you play, I honestly have no idea how Rival Wings really works. I know "break the crystal" and all but it seems like the game's energies are scattered -- go get fuel, protect this and that, break the crystal, kill the minions, watch for this or that status, make sure you've got the right mech and you know what to do with it.. there are just too many things competing for attention.

Whereas with something like the other frontlines games, it's "go fight over this place to earn more points". That's understandable. I think FFXIV tried to shoehorn itself into a type of PVP where it didn't really fit.

You could say it's unrivalled.
