What kind of jobs do you want in 7.0?

It's never too early to speculate, theorycraft, and anticipate the next jobs. The work for each expansion starts a lot earlier than one would often think. What jobs are you hoping for?

Personally I would like to see a new caster. Something that is completely unique from Black Mage, Summoner, and Red Mage type mages. Perhaps Time Mage, or Geomancer.

My other thought is maybe something else with an eastern origin. We only have Samurai, Ninja, and Monk for the eastern type jobs, and Monk is a lot closer to near east in origin than the actual east. Onmyoji, Oracle, or something else with an eastern flair would be a welcome addition in my opinion.

Honestly, and this might be an unpopular opinion, I don't want them to add more. We have 19 combat jobs, 20 if you count blue mage, and 11 DoL/DoH for 31 total. That's 5 combat gear sets + 2 non combat + 19 class specific artifact sets. They've already scrapped individual class quests, and the role quests we got in EW are barely tangentially related to our jobs at all, if you squint a little. Now I'm no game dev, but it does seem like the decision to stop doing individual class quests might be tied to the number of jobs we've gained - 10 since the start of ARR if my count's right. Even with the later job stories being more condensed because those jobs start at higher levels. I'd rather they focus on the jobs we already have, or even on other things - like actually doing class story quests again, or even on cosmetic things like updates to the races we already have or just general QoL/UI updates.

That said, if they do add a new job, I could see another ranged physical, purely because there are now less jobs in that category than all the others (though it is tied with caster if you don't count BLU). What I really want is one, just ONE melee that doesn't have positionals. I don't like them, they're irritating, and they make certain fights more frustrating than fun - fights that would otherwise not have that extra layer of frustration. Make a melee mage or something idk just give me ONE melee job that doesn't need to play some BS shuffle game on top of y'know, doing their rotation and dealing with mechanics while maximizing uptime.

I don't see the end of new jobs coming soon. There are still classic Final Fantasy staples, and plenty of new job ideas they have yet to implement. They also need selling points for each expansion, and without something major like new jobs, or a new race, I don't see people getting as excited.

I agree. rather have them work on what we have and make them better than adding some new shiney for people to flock too.

lets face it, every job they add, tends to remove abilities from something else. I would want them to spend time fixing the current jobs, get those set up, and then decide if they want new jobs and come up with skills not stolen from other jobs.

I want to see an expansion of the limited job system. This is the perfect space for them to just throw dynamite at the wall and let us go nuts without worrying about precise balancing and synergy. With every expansion comes more content to do on these jobs, and we're at a really good place to start making these "not quite jobs" feel like a big part of the game.

I'm totally against the idea of not adding new jobs. There must always be a new job.
Look at Sage/Reaper views on Youtube. New jobs are the most anticipated thing from a new expansion (Not counting MSQ)
For me, I'd like to get three new jobs ( Just like in HW ) and while I like the idea of having new original jobs. I'm all in for classic jobs we don't have yet (Time mages and Geomancers are most notable.)

Also, maybe some sort of earthy elemental class. I liked the feel of early Conjurer, but then we didn't get any more Conjurer stories and my earthy spells were replaced by generic holy priest aesthetics. So... maybe Geomancer?

Morpher: Based on the FFXI monstrosity system, it's build you own monster with form, abilities and traits. Could use Halatali as a monster arena for PVP and PVE fights.
Onion Knight: Is able to equip all gear, and all abilities, weaponskills, spells and traits from all your unlocked jobs. Build you own class and go nuts. Ofcourse it won't be balanced.

Honestly, kind of is too early to speculate, but Emet-Selch did kind of vocalize protentional expansions for the future, ie Additional areas in our classic zones, the other continents, and the remaining Shards "You'll be surprised what you find there." This said, what I want... Hammers, Warhammers, I want a Job that uses Warhammers, Big Honking Chunk of flat metal, designed to Pound enemies into submission. So I guess going with that theme, and looking at past FF games...

FF1 White Mage & Warrior
FFIII Viking & Onion Knight
FFV Freelancer & Berserkers
FFXI White Mages & Geomancers
((Note there are other hammers in other games, but these are associated with characters and not jobs/classes))

Looking at the list, we can break Hammer use into several classes. Viking, Onion Knight, and Freelancer can be covered by other jobs and classes. With Onion Knight and Freelancer being no Job Adventurers, and Viking is either a Warrior or Berserker.


White Mage, Geomancer - White Mage is our basic Healer Job, Geomancer is essentially the DPS version of a White Mage. This would actually be an interesting Job, and because at high levels White Mages are using more White Magic and less Earth Magic I would say that Geomancer is a possibility.

Warrior, Berserker - Warrior is one of 2 of our Basic Tank Jobs, and Berserker is essentially the DPS version of a Warrior, like Geomancer there is room for it in FFXIV, however I do not see a lot of evidence they will include it.

What I suspect, Geomancer Physical DPS (Uses Ninja Gear) like Ninja it has a mix of magical abilities and melee abilities, Gaia will be the Job lead.

Geomancer What it does in past Final Fantasy games. Basically it's a white mage, the spell lists, and even the gameplay is a DPS White Mage, that brings nothing new to FFXIV, but then if we look at how the team made other Jobs in FFXIV we see a trend of tanking the basic concept (Sage, Red Mage, Gunblade, Dark Knight, Dragoon, Summoner) and making it unique and it's own thing. So how could they bring Geomancer to the game and make it fun and unique without taking away from the unique gameplay of other jobs. By doing something New. Melee Caster, ie looking at the trope of the Earth Mage from popular fiction, we see that a Geomancer could easily fit in a Melee role, using Earth Magic for hard hitting Near Ranged and Melee Combos. Kind of like how a Ninja uses both magic and melee. And since Ninja is the only Job that currently shares gear with no one else. I would say the Next Job should go here. So looking around at Dex based Melee, with hammers and casting magic who do we see, Gaia. Our one and only Goth Cutie, on the first. Her BFF (and possibly Romanic partner is a rogue.) She is very clearly both Earth Magic and a Dex based Warhammer user.

I would make the Job a two handed Big Hammer, and basically the opposite of Red Mage, it does it's main combos and build ups in Melee, then steps back to hit them with Big Hits of Earth Magic. Which once again is kind of like Ninja, only with a very different type of weapon... Oh and here is an anime list of Earth Casters to get a sense of aesthetics.

I would be angry if we got any more of these jobs. I hate limited jobs. It's such a waste of dev time. I'd rather they make jobs that are actually relevant.

This. I don't care for the limited job system at all.

A new caster seems overdue, but I’d like to see a new technical dps that uses scouting gear so scouting, maiming, and striking all have alternate uses.

Some sort of mold breaker tbh.

A ranged phys that is heavy, hard hitting, and slow(think monster hunter heavy bowgun)
A healer that uses their hp as a battery to heal others and heals off doing damage(with some medium cd self heals as a failsafe)
A healer that heals with spells but attacks with melee
etc

Outside of those though, I'd just like some of the jobs for Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. A bow user(Sniper) that doesn't have the song thing would be cool. Assassin could be another scouting class that uses a claw for the weapon.

I also really want a Necromancer caster. It is similar to reaper, but a different side of the coin. Necromancers would summon a variety of undead to do their bidding, unlike Reaper who only channels one that they are linked with. There are so many amazing weapon ideas for such a class.

- Athamé: A ritual dagger commonly used in various occult/pagan practices.

- Cores: This is taken from Kuja of FFIX, but I think the idea of a floating core could be really cool for another magic class. Just replace the fire and ice with a dark aspected one, and it could do the job.

- Floating sigyls: I.e. A metallic Ankh, Cross, , Celtic trinity, Nordic cross, or etc. floating between two clasped hands.

- Sage stick: Could see some kind of a weapon that is a literal sage burner that is held in the hand, with the lore of the necromancer being spell weaved into incense.

All you have to do is get creative, and they could get past the fact that canes, rods, and books are already taken by other jobs.

Hello I'm a black mage main and I just want to say I love this class! You did so well with it in Shadowbringers I really wondered how it could be improved upon in Endwalker. I wasn't sure you could add anything without detracting from what black mage already had and I was pleasantly surprised.

I love what you did with it and it got me thinking about what might happen in future expansions. And I came up with what I thought would be a cool way to incorporate a Blizzard V and a Fire V into the black mage.

Blizzard V/Fire V would not go on the your hot bar rather when Paradox is activated in Ice mode your next Blizzard III is transformed into Blizzard V. Blizzard V deals damage to target plus a bit of splash damage to nearby foes and activating Umbral Trance. Under the effect of Umbral Trance your Fire IV or Flare spells have a chance to transform your next Fire III into Fire V dealing devastating damage to the target plus splashing to nearby foes.

Love the support for Tactics jobs. Some of them are so unique, and underrated that bringing them back would put a fresh dose of content into the series. The problem is most of them would not work, but I love the idea of a strictly bow user. My wish has always been for crossbows.

Wishful thinking for sure. Illusionist is the first that comes to mind with the "how?" lol. Moogles had that gadget job with the rng and status stuff which wouldn't really work without some major tweaks too. Still they made RDM work so I feel they can do something with some of them. Mog Knight being a dps with charges and a 2hand sword would be kind of neat. I guess it really depends on how SE feels reusing weapons. though tbf Sniper in FFTA used "great" bows I'm pretty sure so it might still work out.

I really want a hammer tank, or maybe a dark themed healer. They've been blueballing us on hammers since antiquity and we already have a dark caster, physical dps, and tank, now all we need is a dark healer/physical ranged class.

Job balance has never been because of the number of jobs. It's always been about skill bloat that happens overtime. Even if they stopped adding new jobs, the problem still wouldn't change. Jobs get old and dusty. It just happens in mmos

Now that we are heading to another adventure, I‘m hoping for more „non-heroe WOL-esque“ jobs, like:

-more void/dark themed jobs like reaper, dark knight
-thief/rogue (I know some people that like rouge/thief themed jobs but don‘t like ninja because it has a very different vibe to it)
-something that wields a crossbow (would have loved a non-magical healer (healing bolts/poisonous bolts for dmg)
- an archer job that doesn‘t have the whole bard „theme“ with it. something like a hunter job would be nice!
-a job that wields a big ass hammer

I throw it out that the point of the job being Limited is that they can give those jobs off the wall and insane abilities. You want to imagine the loadout BLU would get if you could take it to Ultimate? I don't, because it would be a huge disappointment.

Another job that is missing is another scouting job. Scouting gear has been exclusive to Ninja for so long.

I don't want new jobs in 7.0. I would rather they utilize all the time they were going to develop new jobs be redirected into all the stuff in the game that's been left back. Turn the shallow parts of the game into deep pools or even invest half that time into meticulously touch up all the current jobs that need them.

Also, at some point, if they keep adding jobs, those jobs will inevitably become expy jobs and boy, when you go into that territory, there's no going back.

I'm still holding out hope that Geomancer isn't just a "subset" or whatever of Astrologian, as the questline seems to want to try and claim. I adore the feng-shui elements it gained in XIV over just being a terrain wizard like in the prior games, though FFT's version will always have a special place for me.

Since the other DoT heavy classes have greatly lessened their focuses on them (Summoner entirely, Bard mostly), it seems pretty fair for them to focus all in one one job for that archetype - Geomancer could be a good fit, since it seems tied to fortune and logically, the inverse over the general fate shenanigans Astrologian's cards are about; hell, a bunch of geomantic things in the Swallows' Compass are straight up called 'Maledictions' - basically curses. Which yes, Blue Mage DOES learn a version of one of the spells, but that's hardly a disqualifier.

If they don't just move away from that design type, which would be a great shame. They're very fun when done well.

I feel like we have enough jobs- So I'd be okay getting none or getting limited jobs instead (Which I suspect was the goal when they introduced Blue as a limited job).

If we are getting new ones I'd love a dot based class to replace summoner.

I think the remaining niches left for new jobs are; scouting melee, phys ranged and magical ranged dps.

Considering we've just had a melee, and had phys ranged in Shadowbringers, we're due a caster.

Geomancer would be my pick for magical ranged dps, and fully second Reksanden's post above.

With the number of jobs getting a little too much for them to handle now, I'd be in support of them reducing it to one new job per expansion now. (Especially if 7.0's is Geomancer!)
With the odd limited job in addition maybe.

I don't need anymore jobs from them, I fail to see anything they could do that would be as cool as reaper, I'm good if they never add another class.

The Melee DPS Role Quest in EW proves the concept Possible .

But if not that...Geomancer...primarily because the Ast Storyline mentions it, so its just in my head that it should be happening.
Im conflicted if Id want it as a Magic DPS, or as a Healer.
Then maybe Berserker, or Viking for a Hammer-Wielding Job. Tank or Melee DPS that uses Maiming Gear like Dragoon & Reaper

And Something with a Whip. I could just say Beastmaster...but I feel like it would only work as a Limited Job.
Unless we are into the idea of reattempting the Pre-Endwalker Old Summoner Job

Feel like it's worth noting that there was an interview where Yoshi said he doesn't foresee there being an expansion without a new DPS job. So by extension, it seems like new jobs are going to keep on coming.

Id honestly like them to work on the jobs that make them I guess unique from eachother? IDK, I level up all the jobs out of bordem, and to me, all of the jobs feel roughly the same in their respective roles. WHM feels like AST, All tanks feel like the other tanks, etc etc.

Id also rather they spend this time actually looking into upgrading things in the game "such as the textures because go knows a lot of us probably play on screens higher than 1080p and the textures on the higher res screens look absolutely abhorrent
