Yet again another Dx11 issue, ive had several over the years and the latest one is that
Randomly FF14 has been crashing on launch with this error:

I'm having the same exact error as you. As soon as I hit play, and as it's phasing out of the age restriction, the error strikes.

Are you able to still play with the error pushed down into a corner, and also, did this start happening after patch 6.01?

I just tried what you said and yes i can log in and play still but without sound, and yes it started with 6.01 randomly

Ah so you and I are in the same boat. It just solidifies my theory that 6.01 is clashing with certain drivers. I have zero sound as well when I play with the error, however my error is constant....

Mhm, it kinda helps me feel better a bit knowing that I'm not alone in this. I was tearing my hair out trying to troubleshoot it, just to figure out what was wrong with my game. I was getting ready to reinstall windows, thank goodness I didn't.

I had Dx11 issues in stormblood as well, It took a lot of trial and error to fix it, very unfortunate that it happens to me again with a seperate issue

It does suck... I used to have them myself until I bought a new PC. But with this recent patch... It's just happening all over again. It makes you feel that dread of having to deal with it all over again.

So, I had these errors as well, but I found a solution for mine that might work for you as well. It turns out that the Realtek Audio driver was causing confliction with FFXIV, So by switching out Realtek with the default Windows Audio driver, the crashes stopped for me.

Basically, open up your Device Manager

Open Sound, Video, and Game controllers

Right-click Realtek High Definition Audio

Click "Disable"

Right-Click it again, and choose Update

Choose Browse My Computer

The screen will say the driver is up to date, but you'll want to choose "Let me pick from a list"

Choose High Definition Audio Device and hit Next. (You'll get a warning about compatibility, but just hit Yes)

From there, try launching FFXIV again and see if it works.

Just a quick update, I did a fresh install of the game today, and was able to play for 4 hours without the error. But once I was done playing, and closed the game... I reopened to see if the error would return, and sure enough. There it was.

Yeah I actually did the same thing when it first happened but it came back on next launch, Really need a response from a staff member, game has been unplayable for multiple days now

I haven't seen a single response since I've started having these issues, it's been a solid week now. I've been patrolling the forums, FFXIV is the only game I'm having issues with. Even Red Dead Redemption 2 isn't having any problems.

Just started experiencing this issue today as well, the DX11 error window pops up and the game continues to run fine in the foreground but without audio. If you close the error window, the game shuts down.

Wanted to add that I am now also experiencing this bug after having to redownload the game due. Same experience as above, can play the game with no sound with the error popped up but as soon as I close the window the game shuts down.

Got that to other day

Issue is still persisting with the 6.05 update. Acts the same way too. Here I was hoping a fix was coming out for it... I'll try another fresh install, but I doubt it'll work.

Having this same issue. No luck with the audio driver change and the reinstall on the launcher only fixed it for a single boot.

I've been getting this same error since late December and I still have this same error to this day. I miss having sound. I'm just glad that I'm not the only one and that I'm not going crazy but I wished this would get fixed.

While unsure on what has been tried to fix this but here are some suggestions for work arounds:

Messing with in-game settings:

Disable Real-Time Reflections
Set to bordered windowed
Cap FPS at 60
Make sure audio is set to standard and not bass boost.

Nvidia:
Noticed both reports show Nvidia version being 497.29, downgrading to v497.09 has helped some.

Disabling extra audio devices:
In windows search Sound Settings > Sound Control Panel
Disable all audio outputs other then the one you are using.

That fact that this hasn't had a response yet is so bad considering how many have this issue, I won't be renewing my playtime when my current cycle is finished, I refuse to play a game without sound because this company won't admit its broken

the reason there's no immediate response is because there's no guaranteed fix, the issue tends to be caused by things within the system itself as a result of certain code/thread safety not being met in exchange for performance.

Overlay Software or mixing such software with Re/G/Stormshade
Sound devices with bad/outdated drivers.
Lack of, or unstable RAM
Lack of, or disabled page file.
Display driver concerns (mainly noticed with Radeons, but encounters with nvidia drivers tend to be a result of GFE itself)
Steam overlay and input injection.

When turning down settings improves the behavior, it tends to be hardware that can't operate at its best due to silicon flaws - good hardware can operate at 100% (at up to 90c), the more intensive settings puts more strain on the gpu which increases load and thus heat. reducing load reduces heat generation, and its usually an interaction between silicon temperature and load that you will experience issues when the decay has set in.

I can say I had a similar issue as they describe and it turned out that my motherboard, Asus, had installed their own sound app and drivers (Sonic Sound). I'm typically pretty picky about what I allow installed, but I wanted to try them. Once I uninstalled this additional sound control app the game worked fine.
And it may not be sound - it may other apps that are "fighting" for control and causing issues.

Sonic Sound utilises Nahimic as its mixing engine and nahimic happens to have an Overlay server that quite commonly breaks things, but mid last year asus released a version of sonic sound that was just unstable all on its own due to a flaw in the APO (Audiodevprops2.dll crashes).

unfortunately, the ffxiv crash handler is archaic and many of the errors thrown are post-event, so you can have the game mentioniing a fatal graphics error occured but it was actually the result of plugging in your wired headphones 15 minutes earlier.

I logged in today and there are no more errors! Last night, my computer needed to update so I don't know if there was a change from my side or SE's side but I no longer have the error. I felt obligated to mention this update as to provide more information to help others narrow down what possible issues were going on for those who have had issues. I hope everybody else gets their error resolved, whether it be from SE or their own computer

It has nothing to do with the hardware, there are so many times I see people say that it's your hardware and that there's nothing wrong with the software because "It works for me", which is the dumbest argument anyone can use when trying to figure out issues with the software. It's not that your hardware is causing the software to fail, in most cases with FF14 it's the other way around, the software is conflicting with the hardware causing the client to crash, not the computer but the game. This is the most basic part of software development, having to take your client's hardware into consideration and adjusting your code. Since this issue always gets worse anytime FF is patched with a major patch it is clear as day that there are issues with their game and since every single person on this forum has no issues with other games, people blaming users can be ignored. With that said, this forum is ignored by the developer anyway so none of this information, so the likelihood of these threads resulting in anything is very low. This issue has been going on for years, the DX11 error has nothing to do with DirectX, it's just the name of the client, FF14_DX11.exe. And people saying that "X causes crashes" are people who have no insight in the code, most likely don't have issues themselves selfs and have no ground to stand on. If FF14 crashes because of overlays, SE needs to fix their code to prevent that from happening, users turning off all different kinds of overlays isn't a solution, it's a workaround.

It sounds like you have a Memory issue, try going into the bios and raising the command rate from 1n/1t to 2n/2t or just disabling XMP/DOCP.

Software issues don't tend to go from working one moment to not working another, they are consistently reproducible across multiple systems when the same set of drivers and hardware are in use, the only component which could result in such variable behavior is Memory corrupting.

It sounds like you have a Memory issue, try going into the bios and raising the command rate from 1n/1t to 2n/2t or just disabling XMP/DOCP.

Software issues don't tend to go from working one moment to not working another, they are consistently reproducible across multiple systems when the same set of drivers and hardware are in use, the only component which could result in such variable behavior is Memory corrupting.

Again, your background is completely irrelevant unless you work with the FF code. 99% of what have written has nothing to do with the issues people are having, and nothing you have written has helped anyone. You have shown that you have zero ideas of how software development works, you're stuck on blaming hardware issues because in your small world hardware is the only thing that can cause software issues, which is so impressively dumb that not a single software developer ever would listen to anything that you write. Sofware can cause, will cause, and have ALWAYS caused hardware to bug out and crash games and applications, it has nothing to do with the hardware being broken, and anyone who states something like playing games on older systems like a C64 knows this! It's because the software was not written for that particular hardware in mind, which is why software development is very, VERY complicated because it's impossible for you to have all different combinations of hardware that are on the market. This is why they need bug/crash reports so that they can see all hardware, what the player did when the game crashed, how long the game was running before the crash and so much more. You programming basic on a C64 is not applicable to anything to what people here are having issues with.
